CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Hey kids! Are you cool? Well then you'll love Dante's new style in Devil May Cry. He's just a cool dude with a big sword and an even bigger mouth! The baddies won't be able to keep their cool when Dante starts cracking wise! Then he can put 'em away with his pistol, and his aim is as cool as ice. Did we mention he's cool? Devil May Cry: Cool coolity cool, cooling cool.
It seems like it's the people who played since the beginning are the biggest critics of the new change. I imagine a lot of the new image is angling by PR who doesn't want to give away that in the last third of the game Dante hits super-sayan mode and his hair flames white, and then all the fighting is over, what do you know, the white stays!?
My girlfriend likes it. It has an accout creation requirement tho, seperate from steam. Better than the 3? Prolly so, gfx are better at a minimum.
Weird, from screen shots and what I've read it seems like Tropico 4 has slightly lower res textures.
So the Build A Lot 2: Town of the Year Collection is free right now on Gamefly. It is normally $10 there.

Requires a Gamefly account. Does not activate on Steam.

If you are remotely interested in this game you should grab it now.

BTW if you ever had a Direct2Drive account it should have auto converted to a Gamefly account.
Thanks! And damnit... I discovered that I had bought TW:Rome for $2.50 on D2D 16 months ago and completely not remembered. I used to be a reasonably well adjusted person, but now... KHAAAN!! MOTOKIII!!!
Wow...never knew there's so many simulators!
I'm still waiting for an Arab Spring Simulator. Abduct and torture your opponents. Shut down the internet. Use expired tear gas and "non-lethal" weapons against your people (they're yours after all). Stage pro-regime rallies! Get major nations to oppose each other in the UN. Blame Al-Qeada! Print gigantic portraits of yourself! It's not megalomania, you're just that awesome!
Dante's always been a goofball. I know there's this sort of perception he's a huge badass but that really only plays into the first game. The others he's a pretty big dork, especially is Devil May Cry 3. I mean the opening scene of that game has him battling while eating a pizza, which is super dorky unless you're a ninja turtle. This new Dante doesn't look much different from the character in DMC3 really. And as much as hardcore fans hated Nero, he was pretty similar too (and I'd say the Devil Bringer made him pretty damned fun to play).
Based on the anime I wouldn't say so much a goofball, as much as talented and under appreciated...and through badass when the occasion obliges.
I've had New Vegas modded more or less looking like that for a year but I haven't really messed with Fallout 3 mods much yet.

Oh thanks, good to know. I do cringe a little when I look at the recommended system specs for the better versions of the mod.

Well, the first was genre defining...

I gave the Dungeons demo a whirl this morning and the mechanics took a couple tries to understand. Basically, you have to earn prestige to create certain objects/advance the mission. To earn prestige, you put down various "gimmicks" (game lingo) that use up Soul Power. To get more soul power, which lets you put down more gimmicks, which lets you get more prestige (that was throwing me off), you kill the heroes who enter your dungeon after they have satisfied their needs for battle and looting - the more they try to carry off, they more Soul power you get when you off them.

You have to place pentagrams on the ground to spawn monsters that also spreads your area of influence - the monsters are static unless a hero wanders too near to them and then they will engage in combat. Your monsters are pathetically weak at first and your dungeon lord has to run around doing most of the battling. Most of the strategy (after 2 levels) seems to be the way you set up the dungeon, funneling heroes as far away from the entrances as possible to keep them loot happy but easy for killing while simultaneously managing whatever objective you have to advance.

The demo was pretty deep, and for $6 I'm considering grabbing the whole pack, but I'm just not sure yet.

Also, for Win 7 users, there can be an issue with the initial install constantly trying to install/repair .NET Framework 4 and rebooting your computer and then trying again when you launch again - may just be the demo but I had to cancel the install after the 2nd reboot and it ran fine.
Since it's been in a bundle it's not worth much credit at all so that will discourage people from powergaming it up. Anyone who gives it away would pretty much be doing so because they want to and don't want the extra key to go to waste.

Also, I don't think that many people have an active IGN membership anymore because you have to pay for it and there are no free trials like there used to be.
yah i guess. well i dont have that game yet so ill probably be entering those giveaways. hehe!

This thread grew too many pages since I've been moving the past two days for me to read it all. So sorry if this has been asked but is Port Royal 3 worth $20 or should I wait for a better deal?

From the reviews that I've read its a mediocre revival of the series and its trading is good just like patrician iv but the combat is not up to par.

I'd recommend the first two port royal games instead as they are better and not split into two different parts, trading and combat.

It was only after Dollhouse that I realized I became a Whedon fan.
It's hard for me to put into words, but I will try. While I always disliked Star Trek, I always seemed to befriend people or go out with girls who loved it. Thus, it was go see the new star trek movie with them, or not have anything to do that night. So, I actually ended up seeing all of them. This is in addition to countless episodes of all the series while just hanging out.

The recent reboot, which I only saw because my girlfriend wanted to, surprised the heck out of me. I didn't find it cheesy or unbelievable like I did the others. I liked the characters. I found the writing intelligent and without too much of the "mumbo-jumbo-trekker-jargon" speak that always irritated me in the series and other movies.

I loved the fact that I didn't feel like I needed to know about "interstellar treaty 564.7 between the romulans and the klingons that forbade.. blah blah blah." It was a whole new universe, all the previous things that I didn't like about the previous shows/movies haven't happened or won't happen in this timeline.. It was a refreshingly fresh start.

This is of course, entirely my opinion. I recommend checking it out, especially if you have netflix - really nothing to lose. If you do, let me know how you liked it!

The one con I can think about? A bit too much with the lens flares :)

Edit: Oh, and I loved firefly as well.. if that helps you in taking a movie recommendation from a stranger
I'll have to check it out then this weekend sounds like it would actually make sense to me then as well. That's really been the biggest turn off when it comes to "geek" culture icons like Comic Books and Star Trek. When they have like 40 years of history and having to know it all to make sense of the current story.

Also another reason I will never watch Dr.Who that is like what 60 years of back story to get the jokes and storyline :whistle2:#

P.S Anyone else hate when Steam hangs on the last 1mb of a download and pauses it so you have to in and manual pause/resume the download?
Weird, from screen shots and what I've read it seems like Tropico 4 has slightly lower res textures.

Someone on the Steam forum claimed that but based on running them in game with settings all dialed up I'm not convinced. Anyway neither is what I would consider hi res but it getts the job done.

Thanks! And damnit... I discovered that I had bought TW:Rome for $2.50 on D2D 16 months ago and completely not remembered. I used to be a reasonably well adjusted person, but now... KHAAAN!! MOTOKIII!!!

So, about that Star Trek...

thanks, good to know. I do cringe a little when I look at the recommended system specs for the better versions of the mod.

You can tinker a lot with ENB. It's pretty configurable. I'm running the full month for New Vegas but have to dial it back a little for Skyrim.

It's slightly cheaper in a 4 pack so I thought about it but I don't absolutely need to play it right now and realistically it will go cheaper.

Plus people seem to say just play the old ones and since I own them on both GOG and Steam I suppose I should play the rammed games I bought twice.

Wondering if I should wake up early tomorrow in the off chance they release the next Indie Royale bundle. Has it ever gone live on a weekend? Timing wise seems like it should have launched today.

It's already a few days late. My best guess would be Monday, but I'm probably going to play it safe and keep checking every day.

It makes me so sad that so many people are now obsessed with the new series (NOT A REBOOT MIND YOU); but those same people have usually NEVER seen any of the past episodes! Not at all saying the new series is bad, its FANTASTIC AND AWESOME; but I just wish people would expand their viewing of shows they already claim to like.
Wow, I hope this wasn't directed at me. I've seen most of the extant Hartnells and all of the extant Troughtons, Pertwees, T Bakers, Davisons, C Bakers, and McCoys. I feel like I'm as well-versed a Doctor Who fan as an American below the age of 40 (barely) with limited disposable income can be.
$5 or bust.
:applause:

I've played around 33% of my library, so I'm done spending more than $5 for a game. Unless it is a game that will jump to the front of my BL I'm done breaking the golden rule. I'm also going to wait for Tropico 4 to reach $5 before I pick it up. It has taken extreme will power not to break down and buy it. It's been in and out of my cart a handful of times. I need to stay strong this weekend.

Plus, I've been so busy playing gifted games and games that I've won that I've barely touched my summer sale purchases, so it's hard for me to justify buying more games. I really need to play Witcher 2 before it goes on sale for cheaper than it was during the summer sale.

No, actually it wasn't directed at anyone here specifically, more venting from dealing with friends who watch the new series ONLY

So anyone else try out Nexuiz? The game crashes a few minutes into every bot match and I wasnt able to connect to online servers at all "The Service was down." I checked the forums and it seems full of various types of crashes.

I tried it out earlier today. I did the practice bot match and the game crashed out immediately when the timer ran out on the match. Very buggy I guess. The game itself was OK for the 10 minutes I played, but I need to give it more time.

Just wait till your like a few hours in, Sadly the game really opens up poorly and makes it seem like every other cover shooter, But after a few hours! so many wonderful colors.
Why isn't there a Shatner simulator?
There was, however during the beta of it they found a game breaking bug and decided to just scrap the whole damn game. It seems that everything would go along just fine until you are 68. It seem that the filing for divorce option constantly kept forcing the simulated wife to spawn at the bottom of the family pool. Developers could not find a way to resolve this issue and didn't want anyone to think that they were trying to imply any wrongdoing.

So I was playing Delve Deeper...and guess what there is no save function..WHY!?!

There needs to be a parent friendly games list. I know i've had to give up on Dark/Demon souls as they don't even let you pause the game...Despite Kings Field allowing you too. and now a indie turn based strategy game decides saving is for loser dwarves .. :wall:Even SR3 The Third which has Checkpoints only surprise they are fake checkpoints that don't count as real saves and disappears if you leave the game or it crashes. If there isn't a list of games that are parent friendly i'll have to make one myself I think now.

I'll take a copy of your parent friendly list. Also, if you could include the length of games, and required time for game sessions I'd appreciate it. Example- Bethesda games require long sessions. It's impossible to sit down and play for 15-30 minute at a time- they require hours upon hours for each sit down. It would be really helpful if you could include games like that in your guide. :D

Also, Analogue: A Hate Story is really entertaining. Though, I had to go to a guide right off the bat. I had no idea how to work the Override Terminal. Other than that hick up it's been a really enjoyable ga... story.

I find that the King's Bounty series really doesn't take large amounts of time to have fun with. When I first started on the first one, I played the heck out of it sure, but since then I hop on it every once in awhile and do a battle or two, and then move on. It's a nice strategy/RPG.

Armored Princess was just in the Indie Gala if you got that.

Yeah, I found that really annoying. There are some very good ideas in the game, so I hope if and when the sequel is made, the devs rectify some of the mistakes.
Binary Domain any good guys?
YES!!

My thoughts on it, on My Xfire Blog.
And my final mini-review on it, on My Xfire Blog.

EDIT:
Great deal on Binary domain. Sure it has cheesy dialogue, but its a ton of fun if you like 3rd person cover based shooters ala Gears of War.
I thought it was awesome and one of those Sleeper Hits of 2012.
Binary Domain is absolutely great. One of my best PC purchases in a long time, got it for $10. Awesome deal. Looks like I spent 12.5 hours playing through it once on Hard.
I surely thought it was worth the $10, back when Amazon DVG had it on sale, a bit ago.
I should run through it to see the multiple endings and take different paths.
I put a mini review up before, but I agree in fact Binary Domain is the best third person cover based shooter ever made now and forever. There is just something fun about running around blasting robot's arms and legs off with a snide french robot following you around.
Amen @ robot blasting to pieces. Not only that, the game looks great (artistically), as well. Seeing all the debris flying and the excellent sound effects really help make blowing robots to bits even more fun. Reminds me a lot of blowing enemies to pieces in Dead Space - it's just flat-out fun.

Delve Deeper is totally parent-friendly unless you feel the need to watch every moment of the monster turns (which I wish could be skipped, perhaps along with an option to grant a text recap). The game is turn-based, so you can easily enter your actions and walk away for however many minutes you need. As far as saving goes, each game runs fifteen to thirty minutes depending on map size and number of opponents. I suppose localized MP would make it run longer due to more human input delay.

The lack of saving never bothered me since there is no campaign mode. You play individual stages always starting from scratch, the only cumulative gains being the treasures you discovered added to your list and the achievements. Since many of the achievements require playing in very specific ways, so I felt that the game being individual runs was a blessing.

Want Binary, but should I wait for a console sale? O have a laptop with a GT550M, and my consoles
Are hooked up to my surround system. It would be a hassle to relocate my keyboard, mouse, and use hdmi out to use my laptop with my sound system in another room. Maybe its time for a good headset
