Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Usually it'll say Digital Download on the product page if it's a code. Not sure though I've only purchased them in-store.

Ive played it a ton in windows 7 and had no issues. Shouldn't be a problem imo.
"Notice: Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7"

Almost all games with a message like that simply have it because the game was released before Windows 7 existed and the devs have no official support mechanism in place for that OS.
what are the chances Intrusion 2 will be in a bundle?
I went ahead and picked it up despite the fact it was only 66% off. It looks to have sort of a Contra vibe going for it, got good reviews, and I'm going to start playing it immediately. I'm a sucker for those little side-scrolling shooter/platformers.
"Notice: Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7"

One note about Fallout 3 is that it doesn't play nicely with CPUs with more than 2 cores. There's an easy fix for it out there that's very simple to do which involves modifying the game's config file, which causes the game to use only 2 cores rather than trying to use all of the available cores and failing hard at it. See this page for details; I just did a quick Google search for "fallout 3 multi core fix", so if that page doesn't fix the problem for you, use those keywords to find a better solution. ;)
The Dev made some noise about a Thanksgiving sale. Some CAGs are holding out for better than 25% off. If you were going to do a 4-pack (steam keys), GamersGate has the 4-pack for under $10 after IGN and 2GPO.

Yeah, I'll have 2 spots open on a Torchlight 2 4 pack. I'm just waiting to see if it gets a better discount. If it doesn't, I'll buy it on GG anyway with the IGN discount and G2PO.
Anyone else showing Ravaged in their library, despite having never purchased it and its store page agreeing?
From what I understand, the beta turned into the demo and is stuck in your library. So if you had the beta that would be why.

FYI for anyone interested, bestbuy.com has Dishonored PC for $25 free shipping right now, and I believe the game is Steamworks. I just bought it, since I highly doubt it'll be any cheaper than that during the Autumn Sale.

Heads up: Brazen prototype got added to the Amnesia Fortnight bundle as a BTA bonus. If you bought the bundle without beating the average before it got added, it should be on your key page.
Does anyone know if Rage is actually a 25GB download?
I bought RAGE: Anarchy Ed (PC) from Retail.
It takes up around 22 GB.

I posted this in the gamersgate thread also:
Gamersgate has :

Borderlands 2 (4 pack) - $134.89 (Steamworks)

With IGN discount and G2PO:

$107.91

$26.97 per person.

[edit - using G2PO to buy blue coins should get it down to around $25.75 /person)

I'm very tempted, but I think I'm gonna wait until a GOTY edition, especially since I'm only half way through the first one.
Any thoughts on Two Worlds Epic Edition? It's first one with all DLC for $2.50...
Yep. Decent game.

That game's biggest issues are its writing, dialogue, and voice-acting. When it came out, the game had all kinds of technical performance issues.

Probably and "mayhaps" not the case today, for most modern PC's (way above system requirements). Can't say - ain't had an interest to run it on Win 7.

It surely was worth the ONE penny I spent on it years ago (when regular edition 1st came out), when BB junked the game out (b/c of all kinds of technical issues and mis-information in the game manual of a non-working/wrong phone number; and a VERY high return rate b/c of their online activation homebrew DRM).

Two Worlds 2 is so much better though, it ain't even funny. It improved on the original game in practically every possible way you can think of. The storytelling, writing, dialogue, and voice-acting is much better in Two Worlds 2.

So the Steam download version would also be 20+ GB? I would love to get it for $5, but for such a large download I would just wait for a good price on the retail version. Same thing with Max Payne 3.

Yes, that's the game's install size - that's why I bought RAGE (PC) in a Retail Box.
It would be the same size on the download.
Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered it! I would never have though of looking at Newegg.
That's actually where I bought RAGE Anarchy Ed (PC Retail Box), long while back - back when it hit $20 not too long after its original release, since the game bombed sales-wise on the PC.

Could be a smaller download, Hitman was like 13GB download and installed to around 22GB. I recall Rage was probably at least 20 dl but with that new Steam content system, maybe it's more compressed?

It's closer to $2, since it's $6.79. If that helps :p I'm waffling myself, because I already have plenty of zombie games and don't really need another. But... it would look so nice sitting in my steam backlog library.

I just bought XCOM and that's pretty much all the game I need at the moment. Plus, with a $180 VITA looming at Amazon... erggh.
Wondering if I should plonk down for Dead Island or Rage.

Been waiting for $5 Dead Island, do I really split that many hairs over a $1?
Depends.

Dead Island, IMHO, is the best zombie game around. It's basically Borderlands (open-world ARPG), but instead w/ an emphasis melee weapons and battling mostly zombies. Jump online w/ some friends - it's even more awesome. One thing, though - don't expect the story-telling and narrative-emphasis from the original amazing trailer in this game on a regular basis; it happens here and there. On the other hand - Ryder White DLC (that DLC is SP only) though does a very good job w/ storytelling, explaining/filling in why the plot twist in the story Dead Island (base game) actually happens, even though Ryder just doesn't level-up at all in that DLC.

About RAGE PC - do you have the PC to run this? Even I can't run RAGE PC well at 1920x1080 maxed-out (i7 950; 1 GB of GF GTX 560 Ti; 8 GB RAM; Win 7 64-bit). I have to run it a res' down or so to 1690x1050, just to get it running nice. Game's not well optimized here, either. I still wish they'd fix the performance issues. Regardless - it's a good open-world shooter. As you'd expect from an Id shooter - the combat itself is awesome and feels fantastic. Some of the side quests are repetitive, though - you'll often revisit main quests areas you already explored and killed enemies in, more or less. Just don't expect heavy ARPG loot elements like Borderlands or decision-making elements like Fallout 3/FO: New Vegas here - it's NOT those games. It's more or less a typical linear Id FPS Shooter, but w/ open-world travelling (via buggies) to get to an area. Though, while the story is nothing great - I love the characters in this game; Id's never had characters ever this interesting or this much personality ever before. The voice-acting is pretty good. BTW, I should note this - RAGE has a terrible cliffhanger ending that is abrupt as hell - so I'm hoping one day Id does go on to do RAGE DLC or (better yet) RAGE 2...

I played it on xbox 360. Even with all the bugs and glitches it was a great game in my opinion. I also bought a PC copy when amazon had it on sale. It can get repetitive but it best played in co-op.

Has anyone played Gatling Gears? It looks really nice but the DRM and activation limit make me want to stay away. However this post makes it not sound as bad as it could be. The limit is a 24 hour one, but the drm remains.

It looks like it's the first time it's been $2.49 though. Thoughts?
