Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Should be DA1+2 for $5, and they burn a copy of DA2 for $10.
How about I give them $10 to pretend DA2 never happened and was all a bad dream?

Agreed. I remember listening to the Giant Bombcast going on and on about how DA2 was the biggest disappointment of the year (not necessarily the worst game, just the biggest disappointment), and I thought they were being way too harsh.

Then I played and completed DA2... and I have to say I agree with them :( I don't think DA2 was bad, and I don't even mind the "dumbing down" that much (ME2 dumbed down the RPG elements and is still one of my favorite games of the decade), but I feel they really messed up the story and player choice, and I didn't even like the majority of the characters. Oh well, that's a whole other tangent...

Here's hoping DA3 Inquisition displays a return to form.

Hm, I wonder what 2012's Biggest Disappointment would be? I've loved all the games I beat this year (Spec Ops: The Line, Walking Dead, Sleeping Dogs, To The Moon, Penny Arcade 3, Driver: SF, Darkness 2, Witcher 2...). I think the only games I didn't like much were Diablo 3, Max Payne 3 and Darksiders 2 (I'm 1/2 way through and I just don't want to go back to it). I feel like someone would throw in the whole ME3 ending controversy but hopefully we've had time to regain our senses.

I would say without a doubt Diablo 3 was the biggest disappointment of the year. Not a terrible game, per se, but really a letdown.
RE: Far Cry 2

Chalk me up as another who didn't like it. I knew I should have liked it. I know I wanted to like it. For some reason I just didn't. I gave it multiple attempts over periods of time and just couldn't settle into it. I don't know if it was the locale, the traveling or what. I wouldn't call it bad by any means. It didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth, if anything it was like water and left no taste at all. Though Far Cry 3's gameplay does have me intrigued enough to keep an eye out for it possibly this time next year.
I like Far Cry 2 - namely, the main quests. That stuff was really good - and the missions were much more interesting than unique. Though, that often goes w/ the turf of open-world games.
Some of the side-quests and non-main stuff was repetitive (like AC1), though.

EDIT:
How about I give them $10 to pretend DA2 never happened and was all a bad dream?
Sure, DA2 was NOT anywhere on DAO Ultimate's level and not even anywhere near even close to the original game AT ALL....
...but, what games really ARE going to be on DAO Ultimate's level?
Not many, AFAIK.

I still thought I got my time and money's worth on DA2 ($32 or so that I spent on it).

Alright guys kind of off topic kind of on topic I guess? I had been listing my game collection the past couple of years and was too lazy to do a A-Z order well now I am on my last list of games to redo and that is my PC section. I over the summer bought the big Sega pack on Steam and ever since then I listed all the Sega Genesis and etc games as their own and not "Sega Genesis & Mega Drive Classics". So should I just count them all as one game under that name or should I label them individually since you can buy them separately and or in smaller packs and just put the "Genesis & Mega Drive Classics" thing next to the name of the title? I don'tusually count compilations as more than one game like for example "Sonic Mega Collection" I only count that as one game. So guys what do you think count them as one game "Genesis & Mega Drive Classics" or by their original titles?

I thought Diablo 3 was pretty good, as well.
I just am NOT a fan of the "always online DRM", when I was easily able to GO SOLO the entire game no problem.
Granted, it is quite fun, when playing w/ others online.

Eh, I loved Max Payne 3. Just finished the SP portion last night.
I thought Mass Effect 3 was great, except for the last 5-10 minutes (the end stuff), more or less.

I played it quite a bit when it first came out, but found the ONLINE ONLY to really be a turn-off. Even though I was playing single player, and have the battle.net mobile authenticator program, someone was still able to sign in to my account and empty my character of both gold and loot every 3 or 4 days. After about 2 weeks of that, I gave up on the game, called the $60 a loss, and moved on.

Oh, man - that bloody sucks. :(

I could really get into a Train Simulator bundle. Base game with select tracks, engines, etc... beat the average to get an exclusive run.

Yes, AC1...another game I just couldn't force myself to like. And similar to FC2, I really did want to like it. I did just pick up Brotherhood, so I'm hoping it was just an isolated incident with AC1.

See, the D3 always-online thing never seemed an issue to me, mostly as after the first solo playthrough I never played D2 offline. Even when playing alone I would create a game on Battlenet. Some items were only available on ladder games, plus I could take a character I was using on my own and get together with a friend or two.

D3 is what it is -- a loot grinder. The negatives associated with it and Blizzard were more than enough for me to pass on it in favor of Torchlight 2 (never mind the $40 price difference... which was more like $47 as I paid approximately $12 for TL2 at release). Unless you're looking to get into the digital item market via the RMAH there is little difference between the two games with TL2 coming out ahead on most of the distinctions.
Good riddance THQ. All I have to say.
Bastards all!

I say we deport the whole lot and sell their children into slavery.

That'll show them what we think of their inability to cope with poor financial decisions in a failing economy!

So long as it all goes down after the Metro sequel releases, right?

From what i'm reading, the Unreal Complete pack current deal isn't that great of a deal. I'm really wanting to get it, i'm hoping it'll be 75% for the Winter Sale.

Hmmm, did Amazon match the individual SR3 DLC during the Black Friday sales? Looking over it I think Genkii Bowl is probably the only one I'll grab. And maybe the Shark Gun says everyone raves about it!

I'm doing the same, I remember Black being on sale for $5 by itself during the summer sale. So I'm sure it will hit lower during winter.

I bought the complete pack for 75% off during the summer sale. So I'd say that is highly likely that it will reach that price during the coming summer sale. Might only be a one daily deal (or a flash sale), but it'll hit that price again. So unless you're absolutely dying to play it now, I say hold off for a few weeks.

Excuse me as I have a chuckle at your expense.

lol

OK, now that that's out of the way, is this it for Civ 5? Are there any more DLC planed? Am I gonna be hearing about a Platinum edition a year from now? Or can I now safely buy Civ 5?

I think out of the 40 or so hours I played Diablo 3, I probably only enjoyed about 2 hours worth; the majority of that was playing through Insanity with 2-3 friends, woefully underequipped. We did manage to defeat Diablo but it took 45 minutes! (thank goodness for no enrage timer on the big D)

I wanted to like MP3; I generally am a big fan of Rockstar games (esp RDR and Bully but even commonly maligned games like GTA4 and LA Noire). I'm not sure why I was so disappointed by it, but perhaps its linearity (and unrelatable protagonist) turned me off from the "story" crammed down my throat.

I loved ME3 quite a bit, though not as much as ME2. The multiplayer was quite fun with friends, but I eventually grew to despise the IAP roulette wheel of doom due to its uneven and random progression system. The game itself was great, though there were many changes from the previous two games that I thought were questionable (especially the "readiness meter" and the fact it made hardly any impact on the ending). The ending... well this horse has been beaten quite enough, so I won't get into it.

When I say my biggest disappointment this year is D3, it's not because it's a bad game. My biggest disappointment last year was Heavy Rain (with DA2 closely behind), though neither were bad games. They just completely failed to live up to the hype and/or personal expectations.
You can never safely buy Civ 5 until Civ 6 comes out. You know this.
ha ha, you're right. If I buy the Gold edition, somebody will be having a laugh at my expense a year from now.

THQ hate? GET OUT!

Relic alone is worth it. Dawn of War, Company of Heroes. Saints Row the Third was my game of the year. Metro 2033 is amazing and atmospheric ( I still have that whistling stuck in my head).

They totally put the wrong Red Faction up, but oh well.

THQ is boss, I love them. Have for a long time, they make or publish some of my fave games. If they went under, I'd be super bummed out. My only hope would be that Voliaition and Relic would get picked up. My fear is that EA or Activision would do just that.

I only bought the extra civilizations/wonders DLC. The maps and scenarios would never get used by me anyway since I always just play a straight game on a random map.

I won't be playing it immediately, especially since I just got my Microsoft store Skyrim today!

You're right in that it has been $9.99 before, but it's not like $13 is a bad deal either. I'd still say it's easily worth that, it's just potentially worth waiting for if you're not in a rush to play them since the winter sale is a month away.

And then they are on the brink of dying... NO!
I only bought the extra civilizations/wonders DLC. The maps and scenarios would never get used by me anyway since I always just play a straight game on a random map.
A lot of people sleep on the Explorer's Map Pack. If you like playing on random, scripted maps then this is the DLC for you.

Uhm.

Valve, perhaps?

The only good thing about Diablo 3 was I was able to make $2000+ on the RMAH. In all other aspects IMO it's a failure and Torchlight 2 in general is just a really fun game and better in every aspect.

This. :booty:

Until my Half Life is finished, no fanboy levels of love.

Stupid TF2 and DOTA 2 and Portal 2...

It makes sense. You just have to look at the evidence. >.>
I'm know it's been discussed, but is the GoTY SR3 worth it, or should I get the standard edition to drop to a reasonable price. I skipped over all the SR3 DLC talk in the summer sale, because it was out of my price range at that point.

My main concern is I've seen a screen shot of people attacking others with huge purple dildos and I need to know if that is in the standard edition or what DLC I need to get to enjoy that sort of gaming.

Damn. And here I thought I was hot shit when I got $40 for selling some virtual plants in Ultima Online in 2000.

The dildo weapon is just in the game. So you don't need any dlc for that.

The dildos can currently be had for the beat the average price of $5.69

Yeah but no sensible person can attack someone with a purple dildo without wearing their pimp suit!

Thank you, a simple answer to a simple question. Plus, I'm sure that there were a few other CAGS that were dying to know the answer to that question.
