Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Ya, glad to see Rebellion on sale, but surprised Trinity isn't matching the 66% off; would have been a buy for me [I don't own any sins games yet].

Shoite, I truly want to jump on the Arkham City deal, especially since it's the GOTY edition. Sadly, I, like a few other CAG's, cannot take the plunge with the current DRM in place.

By the way, Mr. Boneless, on behalf of the BG's and CQ's, I appreciate your generosity.
I could have sworn Lone Survivor was already 50% BEFORE the flash sale...since it's been on my wishlist and I've been checking it daily.
Not that I saw, had no discount at all in my wishlist until the flash sale.
Anyone else noticed that EA is being stingy with their flash deals? Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Crysis, and now Mirror's Edge, all 70% off instead of the traditional 75% that most of those have seen in the past.
I did notice that. I wonder if there's some interior block on them putting them any lower right now. They are a company of mind boggling decisions, after all.

What I noticed, though, was that the 70% number jumps out at me. Then I have to remind myself that it's inferior to 75%.
Another aside, Amazon price matched Zeno Clash for $1 -- activates on Steam and you get a $5 promo code: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005JFBGD6/ref=nosim/cheapassgam08-20
Thanks for this, I stay lookin' for games under $5 on Amazon that activate on Steam. Need to stock up on that promo cred lol
I own torchlight but really couldn't get into it. Is 2 a lot better? The first one felt very dated and repetitive to me.
I feel the same way. I couldn't get into it but it'd still like to finish it before I even consider buying TL2, I can wait on it.

just got OMD of course but I'm interested in that OMD2 Complete 2-Pack for $5 lol

how's the price on Borderlands 1 GOTY @ $7.50? The 4-pack price is pretty appealing since I have yet to play BL
Can anyone sell me on Quantum Conundrum?
Well, I just bought one. You know, your close personal friend, me?

sigh. I'd been doing so well, too. No new steam purchases since the summer sale.

T'is the season! :bouncy:

Been the standard price for several sales now. I suppose eventually it could drop even lower but under $6 for all the content is probably the best you'll see for another year until they start lowering the base price of Borderlands 2.

Haha, it's like you're in my mind. I just got the OMD:GOTY from GamersGate yesterday and now saw this and also have been waiting on a good TL2 sale only to now decide "I can certainly wait four more weeks." I have Hitman: Ab, Far Cry 3, Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders II, etc to get through. I think I can live without Torchlight II in my inventory.

Yeah checked on SteamPrices. Appreciated as always man. I think I'll just hold on for now even with the 4-pack price,
doesn't seem like there's much interest in Borderlands 1 with the 2nd one everywhere.

Same, GamersGate lol. Nice game list to go through, haven't really had much interest for TL2. Almost done with Sleeping Dogs tho and definitely loved it

Borderlands 1 GOTY is very much worth playing (well for singleplayer at least), and a good way to wait for real BL2 price drops.

I've never played orcs must die before, but it looks awesome! Is it worth getting the franchise pack, or will I never play the first orcs must die if I own the second one?
Can anyone sell me on Quantum Conundrum?
It's a funny 1st person puzzle platformers. Sort of like Portal but with a cute rat-thing and a dimension-changing mechanic. Pretty fun with some good puzzles.

If you own the first I believe you gain access to those levels in the second game. Not 100% on that though.

There is a story in OMD1, and 2 is the continuation of it.. although the story isn't very important. IMO you're better off just getting the franchise pack so that you can play the OMD1 levels in co-op and get the complete experience of the story.

If I pick up Civ 5 will I have a much more balanced/fun experience if I pick up Gods and Kings with it? I read that Civ 5 alone is hard to be peaceful or diplomatic because other nations always are on the offensive.

If you have or in your case are going to get Civ V, I would say getting Gods and kings along with it is very suggested. The expansion adds a nice set of features to the game that make it a lot more fun, and give it what it was lacking when compared to Civ IV.

Look man, I can't help that it adds 9 new civs, or new tech or new units. Or that it adds in spies and even allows you to customize a religion.
Sonic Generations worth the $8? Honestly, I haven't played a Sonic game since the Genesis.
Meh. If you like Sonic games, it's definitely one of the better ones. It was part of the Sega bundle back during the summer sale, might be again in the winter?
Sonic Generations worth the $8? Honestly, I haven't played a Sonic game since the Genesis.
Picked it up a few days ago off of Amazon for the same price it is on steam right now. Lucked out. Get this game. Especially if you have a nice monitor that looks good at 1920x1080. Game is a mesh of Classic 2d Sonic and the crazy 3d modern Sonic levels. I too haven't played Sonic since the Sega days. One warning though. I play on a keyboard and it is find for the classic Sonic levels but a little annoying with the modern 3d Sonic levels. It's definitely playable with a keyboard but a gamepad or a 360 controller would be a lot nicer. Hope this helps

Okay, you win. I'll just bring lunch from home this week what with these crazy deals and all :)

The 75% is for the Winter sales - this is just to catch people off guard :)

Also steam wouldn't have had much negotiating power since this isn't one of its major sales (Summer and Winter are though).

I am so close to picking these up. Worried that the demo will play like the expansion. Decisions decisions...

get civ v goty edition for $12.50 and gods and kings for $7.50. they are both balanced and fun.

honestly, civ v is one of the really good strategy games with a really competitive AI. most strat games, as soon as you get a couple of cities, and build up your infrastructure, it just becomes busiwork because the AI is never going to catch up to you. that isnt the case here. on the higher difficulties especially, the AI gets huge bonuses to happiness and never are short on units.

as for gods and kings, they really amped up not just the religion, but gave the sea units some more strategy. it is almost like a whole new game with gods and kings.
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but the Basement Collection is part of the indie titles on sale today. I dig McMillen's work so it's worth grabbing for $2.
The odd thing is, it didn't go on further sale; the only difference is that it was highlighted today.
Is it just me or have no Ubisoft games gone on daily or flash deals during this sale?
I don't think they got the memo. Most of their games are only 33% off.

OH the other thing i wanted to recommend is that people do NOT buy arkham city and arkham assylum from steam, even tho they are cheap($7.50 for arkham city goty) because they have some of the ugliest drm of any game:

5 machines and 10 installs per machine. if you upgrade your computer at all, chances are that you will not be able to access your batman games in 10 years(tho i guess at that point, i would just say go ahead and pirate them, you paid for them, if steam doesnt let you access your games because of install limits, then fuck them).

but i would instead recommend just getting them for the xbox or ps3.

All the indie titles featured there are at the normal sale price. The "indie games" part does not show any additional discounts, its just there to showcase some games. I believe yesterday one of them didnt had any discount at all.

The publisher puts the install limits on the game via Securom, it's nothing to do with Steam.

This is why I bought those from Amazon with the policy they have in place regarding that.

If you actually still want to play the games in 10 years, the $2.50 they'll cost then will not be a big deal, though they might not even run on whatever OS is out then.
Arkham City is worth dealing with the DRM for the MUCH better graphics compared to the console version.

This is correct. Arkhan City with physx turned on is fantastic.
Haven't seen anyone point it out this sale, but Faerie Solitaire is $1.24 or $2.49 for a 4-pack.

Brian Kramer (of Subsoap) also tweeted about this:

Not positive what it entails, but according to the FAQ everyone who has the Infinity Bundle also gets this one.
SubSoap should be concerned with releasing games instead of bundles that promise games. The last time I checked my SS account, there was only one playable demo of a game. After seven months, you'd think they'd be making better progress.

Question on Arkham city, does the securom for it install anything onto your computer? and when uninstalled does it leave anything behind or is it completely removed? I only ask cause on a previous Securom game I've gotten in the past (didn't know it had it at the time). I had a little trouble removing all of it from my system.

Yeah. Kramer is a nice guy and all but I really don't get the point of this thing. He only has one actual released game, one playable beta (a remake of the first game), and another of a different game. Then a couple of in development stuff with no betas as of yet. What could he possibly put in this bundle?

Promises.

Promises that I don't have a lot of faith in them keeping because I still haven't gotten my Infinity bundle. If I had actually paid money for that bundle, I'd be pissed. But it's kinda hard to get too worked up over not getting something that was gonna be given to me for free.
