Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Either a) something is running in the background every so often, like Windows Search Indexer and you should disable/remove it from your system, b) your anti-aliasing/v-sync is set to a certain level in the game and it is conflicting with the graphics software meaning you need to disable one, or c) you are somehow overheating your CPU/GPU with this game at medium settings and should consider reapplying thermal compound.

Shit, I forgot to use the coupon code for WitN! Traded in 5 games and ended up paying $2.50...but that could've been $1.50!

Got invites to the closed Community beta ... is everyone getting these?

So far, I like what they've done with the new "Friends" tab. I have actually been wanting something like this for a long time. I mostly keep my gaming life off my Facebook and Google+ accounts, but I have like 150 Steam friends and I'm glad to have a place to post socially on Steam.

But the Game Hub is a train wreck, I can't see a reason for visiting these. Spoilers and NSFW content will be a big problem here.

I just started building my Steam catalog. Mostly I've been replacing 360 games (just bought Alan Wake Franchise $10 deal). I just upgraded my computer to run games like Skyrim silky smooth on highest settings so I'm thinking of ditching the 360 and going with all Steam. Has anyone done this? And if so, are you happy with the decision?
It seems that the CEO basically fired everyone but senior staff so he gets a bigger cut of the profits from selling the company, but will graciously hire everyone back next week, once the 'new' company takes ownership. Total dick move.
Amazing. The era of vulture capitalism marches on.
Has anyone done this? And if so, are you happy with the decision?
Yes and yes.

I wanted to distance myself from consoles when the motion controllers took off, so I defected to PC and never looked back. It was one of the most scintillating decisions I've ever made.
It's, err, interesting. There's some features I like but it needs some work. Beta is probably a good way to put it.

Apparently, doing the side stuff first glitches things up so that you don't get the story ending and just the dancing ending.

Wow. I'm kind of speechless. That's beyond shitty. Especially to hear from the actual employees or their family like that.
Oh okay well that doesn't sound too bad.

Cool, I'm now working on the tsunami part of the island. Is the Cabana trophy glitched? I swear I built 30+ cabanas in the hot springs/volcano level. No trophy :(

Definitely not right how that Onlive thing is going down. :censored:

Yep I traded in all of 360 stuff this past sale, gamestop did a 100% value on consoles and 40% trade-in towards steam gift cards, With 300-400(Just from the trade credit) I was able to get around 60ish maybe even more games..I ended up losing count.

Plus we have our computer in the living room so with it directly connected to the TV I can play using the wireless 360 controller just like I did with the console..But with greater visuals and faster loading times and a ton more sales.

Overall, PC is just such a much better offer in terms of what you get and what you can do so love it, Also wait for the winter sale to do any huge amounts of buying off games you wont play before December.

Steam's Semi Annual sales will knock everything in the store to at least 50% off and most go for 75% to 80% off. So that is really the best time to like build your libary for the next coming few years.

Thanks, guys^^
I started my Steam collection with the bundle that had Bastion, Psychonauts, etc and it just started ballooning from there. And the Summer Sale had me hooked. I couldn't believe what I was missing out on since I was too lazy to upgrade to a proper GC and PSU.
I guess you guys can welcome a new Steam addict to the club. Cheers!

I did it in Freeplay on some other level. You might want to try that because sometimes it doesn't count buildings you've bought or carried over from a previous level.

Also, if you have something like your wallpaper changing every 2 hours or so, that really seems to through Win7 for a loop ( doesn't matter what your specs are btw) it will hang for a split second as it changes the background.

Well I got past the first wind boss tornado thing. I got stuck at the stage that has the indiana jones style rolling rocks.

I had only been able to loosely follow the OnLive Drama today. I just looked up their address. I used to work in that building! That's heart of old Sillycone Valley. WTF haven't any journo's been staking out that building to dig at the truth. It's not big, one underground garage entrance, one main entrance, one back entrance. All can be watched by standing on the sidewalk corner. Sheesh, lazy ass journos these days... (Fun Fact: Next door is the original location of WebTV, before M$ bought them (and pro-linux protests ensued), now MSN TV.

I've been thinking of doing this too. But, there are certain games that don't make it to PC that I'm not willing to give up (most notably Red Dead Redemption). If it wasn't for a few gems like that I'd be more than willing to ditch consoles all together. PC gaming is a better experience than console gaming. I've been introduced to a lot of different and cheaper games since I've started gaming on the PC. Plus, the whole collecting games thing is the true game of PC gaming.

Are you sure it isn't the beta? Because that would make more sense.

I'm keeping my PS3 for the exclusives and Blu-Ray and whatnot, but I really have no use for 360 (Netflix? Free MS points with BING?) ever since I upgraded my PC. I'm in the process of replacing all my cross-platform games from 360 to PS3 and PC and haven't run into a 360 exclusive. I would prefer to have physical copies of all my games, but I can't argue with the benefits of switching to PC gaming.

Keep in mind this is a decision I've been mulling for a few months and have just now decided to roll with.

Wow, you weren't kidding! It's apparent after that little search and finding forum after forum dedicated to the subject, as well as seeing how easy it is to do (why the hell doesn't Valve just have an "authorized" game list per account cross referencing what's actually been paid for/redeemed on that account? Is it really just a matter of running a software patch on the client and then EVERY game shows up in your library like the youtube vids show?!?!)

I'm even more surprised at how if you do it right Steam games are dirt cheap, and yet still even paying $3 for a game is too much for some people. I suppose it's more of the thrill of getting away with it more than anything. But really, the vids just show a patch. No IP changers, nothing else. wtf Valve? It should be easy to track these people, or at the very least verify that content is supposed to go to that newly created account. I am alot more confident that even if Steam shut down, it wouldn't effect my ability to play the games I paid for. From what I've seen, once you have the game downloaded, you can (if you wanted to) do as you please. They aren't even letting the client call in, and most of them can be patched to not even look for Steam at all.

I'm just shocked at how easy it all seems to be. But I never believed Steam would patch out the DRM anyway (to be sure the contracts they signed with the publishers prevent that), but I thought that we might have to set up a false server for it to call into on a VPN to mimic the Steam server (remember at this point the real Steam is defunct) or something a bit more technical. Shocked that it's as easy as running a NO-CD patch on a CD-ROM game from 1990.

Beyond Divinity was free, and High School Dreams was $1, so $2 for WitN. Not bad.
I wish it was a line of bs. At the time I lived in a small town in PA, Cambridge Springs. My wife were just married and on a tight budget. The only high speed option in our area was offered by Coaxial Cable and the prices were astronomical. I think the cheapest option was around $60 for something maybe barely over 100k. I ended up with PeoplePc for $10 a month. The only local access number was in Meadville and it was only 28.8.

Just read this. Steam New Community Features for the 1st 50,000 that have Pillar of The Steam Community Badge. I still have to complete 2 more task on mine. hehe!

Sweet! Anyone have a beta invite? I know I'm a bit late, but in fairness I would have had my pillar of community badge had it not been for damn youtube! They wrongfully banned me ~7 years ago and I was never able to get my username back! I've since refused to use a new one till they give me back my username.
Apparently everyone who owns Portal 2 gets a coupon. It's valid between August 16th, 2012 through August 30th, 2012. I just got mine after it finished downloading the update.
No coupon for me...and I was hoping I would have one to generously give someone in need

Thank god this doesn't affect me, but this deserves a followup post because it will sadden/anger some people....looking at you EVERYONE ELSE...HAHAHAHAHA
WARNING: IF YOU GO INTO THE NEW COMMUNITY MODE ON STEAM VIA THE WEB IT CAN PULL UP SOME VERY NSFW IMAGES

Ugh. Just found that out the hard way. Now I have to clean the browser cache on this PC so no one thinks I am surfing porn at work.
 I wish I could enjoy this free assumed porn, too bad I don't have a beta invite ;)

Beyond Divinity was free, and High School Dreams was $1, so $2 for WitN. Not bad.
I have you beat. They offered Disciples II free awhile back, and they allowed you to trade it in for $5. So I got WITN free and I grabbed Disciples II in an indie gala for like $5 with like 5 other games.
Cheers!
Welcome, your wallet will regret it :p. Enjoy.

Someone remind me. Steamgifts changed it so you don't get credit for indie bundle game giveaways, right? Or was it that they'll report you if you list them? I know it was one or both.

You get the first $25 in bundle giveaways credited to your contributor value fully. The rest of your bundle giveaways give only 20% of your non-bundle contribution. Basically, bundle key giveaways are allowed; there's just a contribution value restriction.

My Saturday morning has been made a little more awesome by Yatta. Wait, that needs exclamation marks, and bolding, and italicization...

Yatta!!!

Ahem, anyways it reminded me of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hcElGydzb8

I'm not ashamed to admit that I own that game. Perfect for drunken party action.

And since you asked, Top Hat Guy. Every time.

So I'm guessing Yatta is something more than just Yatta, because I don't find it on Steam and don't feel awesomely cool because I don't know what it is. Sadness.
I just noticed this but... HOLY SHIT STEAM HAS A VOLUME SLIDER ON VIDEOS NOW.
About time :applause:Such a small thing makes a big difference.

I have put a couple hours into LotR WitN and it is quite fun. It gets dull after a while being quite a basic and repetitive action rpg of sorts though by playing in spurts it will last longer.

I have not tried co-op with my second copy yet but it seems like it will be even better when playing it with another person.
I did see a report that people were seen leaving that building carrying a bunch of boxes full of all their stuff.

*edit: Okay a found a source with a report that reporters were there

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/source-onlive-ceo-showed-no-remorse-when-announcing-layoffs/

Following the meeting, management told laid-off staff to pack their belongings, return any key cards, and exit the building by 4pm today. When reporters were spotted photographing the building, management requested laid-off employees to exit through the garage and not the front door.

Damn, they got fired and can't even walk out the front door.

The only 360 exclusive I can think of off the top of my head is Fable II but I'm sure most people can manage without it.

As for preferring physical copies, you will change you mind on that when you end up having hundreds and hundreds of games. :p

It's a silly Japanese song and video.

Kind of interested in Ruse but doesn't look like the DLC goes on sale very much. It's only ever been down to 50% at Gamersgate and isn't on sale at all now. Steam has had it 66% off during the big sales last year, but this year's summer sale it didn't go below 33% off.

Hmm, wonder if Valve was lurking and saw that amazing two keys for $4 deal from THQ a little bit ago and figured they'd half ass phone in the dotd with 75% off which still sounds good on this but we all know better here. :p

It seems like a lot of their dotds are indie bundle games or otherwise games that have been better deals previously elsewhere.

Has anyone ever played XIII?

The art style is very Borderlandsey (which I love). The plot sounds intriguing and that seems like a good price. GOG's reviews are very positive, but I'm wondering if any of y'all can recommend it?
