Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I actually got mine to work using the steam browser, must've just been firefox or something, not really sure.

Deus Ex is at a better price at gamestop today:

http://impulsedriven.com/products/ESD-IMP-W2342

So I would buy it there and just activate it on steam.

Super stoked on the THQ 5-pack... I've held off on every one of those games, and now I got them at under $2 each. >.> That's crazy.

Sucks for everyone who already has one or more though... They should have split up the keys.

I have to say, the price for the THQ 5-Pack is amazing. (And I'm guessing the GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G25% off code is still in effect.) Sadly, I already own Saints Row 2 and Red Faction Guerrilla. If I didn't though, I'd definitely pick it up.

Plus, if this hasn't been posted yet, I recommend the Gentlemen of the Row mod for Saints Row 2. It'll correct tons of bugs and add some amusing new features.

Sucks that they're all binded to 1 key. I would've bought SR2 and Red Faction from you lol.
Sam & Max complete anyone? I've heard good things but I don't know much about them. Worth picking up?
If you like point and click games, and love humor then they are a blast.

Also jesus christ, I been more interesting in getting a fucking Wii-U preorder today online, that I forgot to check the Steam deals. At least I own the weekend deals, Sam and Max is awesome, Deus Ex HR was my GOTY last year.
Man, I'm debating the Saints Row 3 deal over at GMG. I'm sure SR3 will be cheaper on Steam at some point, and I'm in no rush since it doesn't sound as good as the second game. However, it would be nice to have another nonsense sandbox game lying around. I don't know, CAG's; How fun was SR3?
I had a lot of fun with it. I could criticize parts of the plot (and have earlier in this thread) but, let's be honest, the 'plot' is just an excuse to hijack cars and shoot guns and it has that in spades.

Just FYI, MW3 is still fun in the way MW games can be but it's still too much one hit kill for my tastes in MP. The campaign and spec ops and survival are more my speed.

7000 people playing when I checked earlier. If you wanted a lobby beyond the basic stuff, good luck.
If it hasn't been mentioned yet, the HD update to Oddworld Strangers Wrath is finally out. Free upgrade to anyone that owned it, games are 30 percent off as well.
Why is every good fucking thing coming out at once. T2, B2 and now this, all in a 7 day period, lol.

At least I own stranger's wrath.

SR3 is awesome, crazy, witty, funny, insane, well-written, well put-together, off-the-wall, sandboxy, ludicrous, ridiculous, over-the-top, absurd, extremely memorable, and flat-out some of the most fun I've had in gaming in 2012.

I would disagree on almost everything you said and add you have yet to play Sleeping Dogs.

That said, for the price, SR3 is decent fun.

Played the SD Demo - and that demo was quite good.
Looking forward to SD hitting a sale.

So they all can eventually and hopefully all hit a Steam sale or sale on another digital service a bit sooner, not later. :p

SD is awesome. SR3 is basically ok lets just throw as many crazy and unrealistic missions at you at once. For that reason it's good but it's good because it's so crazy. SD on the other hand to me is the more refined experience, with a great, engaging story, fun combat, and a beautiful thought out world.

I like both games but I think I like SD a bit more because it just felt better as a game.
Agreed!
Disagreed, at least in regards to the bonus stage music. For that Sale Event achievement, I couldn't get it until after I muted.
Shatter didn't really hold me when I picked it up last year. I played it once, getting through several levels. It was fun, but it just didn't have a hook. Worth the sale price, though.
I did a one and done, too. Still, I would recommend it. I'll probably never 100% the chvs though, because I don't have anyone dextrous or patient (or single-minded) enough with whom to do the local co-op ones.
I actually got mine to work using the steam browser, must've just been firefox or something, not really sure.
In the past but not recently, I've had problems making purchases through the client but not a browser and vice versa.

And that's EXACTLY what I was looking for. In an era full of A TON of VERY serious games, SR3 is a complete reversal and stands out WAY in front of many other sandbox games of these type b/c it's so bat-crap crazy and over-the-top.

SD on the other hand to me is the more refined experience, with a great, engaging story, fun combat, and a beautiful thought out world.

I think the thing I'm going to really like about SD is the hand-to-hand combat. From the demo, the combat felt awesome w/ the 360 pad.
Can't wait for it to hit price-drops.
I got too many games in my backlog and am already in the midst of The Precursors.

This may be all true - I don't really know. But I have to say, that I played the demo for SD and by the time it was done, I was already sick of the guy I was forced to play as (why no ability to at least play as a female?), thought the shooting in the SD demo was weak (not sure if it's representative of the shooting in the rest of the game), and didn't know what to make of the whole Triad/police xp thing (can I turn my back on the police and be straight Triad?). The combat and setting were awesome, but that's all I took away from the demo.

SR3 is wild as f***. Period.

I'll do you a favor. You give me half the money that you would have paid for a wii u, then every once in a while i'll gift you some shovelware type game that will simulate the wii u experience.

I think we're part of the minority that puts more emphasis in customization. I love the ability to make your own character from scratch, while having more clothes, visual options, etc. It seems like most people don't care much for that. While I've heard good from certain people about the Season Pass SR3 DLC, I've heard almost no good about the rest of the DLC. Why? Because it's "cosmetic", as opposed to the Season Pass DLC, which gives you a few new missions. I heard the same thing about the Killing Floor DLC, saying that it was useless and "cosmetic".

Am I weird for liking more "cosmetic" customization? I dunno.

That said, I do love character driven games (mostly RPGs) that have set characters. Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Tactics, Legend of Dragoon... all some of my favorite games of all time that wouldn't have worked very well if you could create your own custom character. You can't replace Serge, Kid, Ramza, Delita, etc.

I can't say anything about Sleeping Dogs though. I know nothing about it, although all I hear is good.

I like customization as well... to a point. The problem is that SR3 already offers you plenty of customization.

I can make a green alien female with a male voice who wears a super hero costume. Is it worth a few bucks more to get a nun costume? Do I want to pay a few dollars to get purple variations of military vehicles I pretty much already own?

Don't get me wrong, there are a few things in the various DLC that make me smile... shooting fish guts at a pedestrian and watching a shark pop out of the pavement and gobble him up... running some guy down with my man-a-pult or a huge ball of yarn. But for the most part it's pointless and then I'm back to the main game.

Oh yeah, I bought it all, but I can't say I've gotten my moneys worth.... even having bought it dirt-cheap.

Shovelware is on every system, and the majority of it is on PC, so kindly shut the fuck up and get out of this thread.

I don't need every game to be the same.

If every game had customization-galore, I'd be bored.
If every game had pre-set characters, I'd be bored.

I love my fully-customized SR3 character.
Also, I totally loved The Nameless One character in Planescape: Torment and its incredible story and prose.
And that's EXACTLY what I was looking for. In an era full of A TON of VERY serious games, SR3 is a complete reversal and stands out WAY in front of many other sandbox games of these type b/c it's so bat-crap crazy and over-the-top.
I never understand this argument. SR3 wasn't refreshing to me and games don't feel overwhelmingly serious these days. I play a lot of them. I mean, in RE5 I am regularly shooting zombies such that I can grab them and headbutt them with such immense manly power that their skulls splatter completely. And then I'm playing GCI, a game with I think a much better sense of humor than SR3.

Hell, Sleeping Dogs, half the reason I like it is that the random acts of violence you can commit feel so much more satisfying and over the top.
Anyone else having problems buying off steam today?

Pretty sure it's just me. Anyone willing to buy two games? I'm trying to get Shatter and Deus Ex: Game of the Year but steam won't take my money.

If anyones willing just send me a PM with your paypal and we can work out a deal.

*'nevermind good now. Steam browser works better than firefox.
Can anyone send me enough money paypal to purchase Valve so this guy can get his games?
Steam wont take my money either. Can someone purchase and gift me Enemy unknown, skyrim, dishonored, borderlands 2, and ftl?
2 birds 1 stone here folks!
Sam & Max complete anyone? I've heard good things but I don't know much about them. Worth picking up?
Yeah, because I am, they're fucking crazy especially while unsober.:bouncy:

I dunno.
When I describe something as cosmetic, I do it with the idea that you can just LOOK at it and decide if it is worth $5 to you or whatever the cost.

I know what you mean. I mean, along those lines, I guess I don't care about paying for a new weapon as much as I do about a nice selection of clothing customizations. I wouldn't pay a few bucks to dress up as a nun, or have a halo or devil horns (that's a really dumb DLC), but I did pay $0.75 for the Steelport Gangs Pack because I thought the clothes looked pretty badass, and the Genki Girl Pack because, well... okay, maybe I have a problem.

I guess I just see mission DLC the same as you see cosmetic DLC. I go through the mission once, I'm done, I'll probably never do it again. If I buy something cosmetic, I can use it on my character/s (I tend to make a lot of them in games like SR3 or TES games) for as long as I want, regardless of what mission I'm on or what I'm doing. It just feels like I can get more out of it I guess.

Or we can just shut up and buy EVERYTHING. :D

EDIT@RollingSkull: Well, I don't think I was referring to you in particular, but I guess that is a different definition than what I was thinking.

this is exactly the reason I picked up only the whore dlc.
I got Deus Ex: GOTY, not Human Revolution. Figured I'd start at the beginning first, and its cheaper.
Actually HR is the.beginning. its a prequel if I'm right. Never played the "first" two...

Here is how Deus Ex goes. HR is a prequel yes, but play the first Deus Ex first because it's over 10 years old. Then play HR.

Yes every hardcore Deus Ex fan knows there was only two Deus Ex games. The first and HR.. Ok most real Deus Ex fans try to forget the fact that IW even exists, lol.

I play tons of games, too.

About RE5 and many other games - sure, if you look at what's going on, it's not super-duper serious. But, most games purposely do TRY to take the serious tone. Sure, they might throw jokes, references, and those kind of things here and there - but not to the extent saw SR3 does.

SR3 deliberately tries to be self-aware, crass, reference other things in pop culture, poke fun and critique things in its own genre (GTA-style game), try to be ridiculous, and the laundry list could just go on and on.

As great as GTA4 was, I probably can't remember portions of the story, here and there. Ballad of Gay Tony was much more memorable for me, though. SR3, though - I can tell you most of the missions and what happened in them.

Hell, Sleeping Dogs, half the reason I like it is that the random acts of violence you can commit feel so much more satisfying and over the top.
I am looking forward to SD. Sure, like most action games, I'm sure it's over-the-top in its action and violence - but I'd say it's probably a much different kind of over-the-top than what SR3 probably has given us.

SR3....just is over-the-top in every single way it can be - story, gameplay, missions, jokes, references, side quests.
Actually HR is the.beginning. its a prequel if I'm right. Never played the "first" two...
HR happens first chronologically, but Deus Ex GOTY is still the "beginning."

How are the Deus Ex games in general? Honestly never played them. I'm thinking about picking up Human Revolution from GameStop downloads, or should I just get the original GOTY edition? My friend told me the second one wasn't too good...

The deals for the THQ Pack (is this really a good deal?), Mafia II, SR3, and Shatter look good too along with Deus Ex. I can't get them all tho :( & then there's Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath which I've always wanted to try. Any y'all think that could get cheaper than it is now

Also would Assassin's Creed II for $6 over at GameStop PC downloads be a good deal too if I wanted to try out AC? Never played one but always wanted to try it.

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking FTL might be in the Deep Space Bundle/bundle in a box 2

I don't see why they can't answer if it's a coincidence lol.

I think this is the same reason I found Matt Hazard so bland, the same reason I didn't like SR3. Too madcap and random. Too "Meet the Spartans." Not enough "Spaceballs."

I really doubt one of the first games to be kickstarted is going to risk the bad PR from being in a bundle day one. Not to mention that FTL is getting a decent amount of positive press so I would not exactly expect Bundle in a Box of all the bundlers out there to be the ones to snag it.
I really doubt one of the first games to be kickstarted is going to risk the bad PR from being in a bundle day one.
You never know, there was a similar situation with Botanicula. Also, the first bundle in a box had a newly released game in it.

Even though I haven't physically bought it yet, I'd be a little pissed if they decided to bundle it. Can't say exactly why though.

Anyway, happy FTL day everybody! Please don't disappoint me as much as Krater did!

Edit: at least Botanicula launched with the Humble Bundle "brand". Does Build-A-Bundle have anywhere near that level of exposure? Assume not.

It's an incredible deal IF you don't have any of the games and want them all (or most of them). With the 25% code, you're basically getting each game for under $2, while they're all usually around $5 each otherwise.
Also would Assassin's Creed II for $6 over at GameStop PC downloads be a good deal too if I wanted to try out AC? Never played one but always wanted to try it.
I'm not sure if that's the lowest price ever on that one (there's a Deluxe Edition too, mind you), but if you want to jump into the AC series, 2 is a good place to start. There's nothing really wrong with the first game (although people will tell you otherwise), but you're not really missing out on a lot of the story if you start with 2.

If you end up liking the series, you can always play 1 later on. It's still good, but it doesn't grab you and make you want to keep playing as much as 2 does (it can get a bit repetitive, which is the biggest argument against it).

I'd have to say that their comment about not being able to say anything comes from the fact that they probably can't tell anyone what's going to be or not be included in the bundle.

The coincidence does make you think though.

Period.
SD PC controls are really shit compared to SR3 too.

It has some nice features but I wish the controls were as good as SR3

Don't bother. It really is as bad as they say it is... just awful. I had to stop after four or so hours.

I made it into the first main hub and just stopped. The program shutting down and reloading itself completely each time a new level loaded was extremely annoying (and levels are at best a third the size of Deus Ex 1, at worst much smaller). Universal ammo was almost a game killer as well, since I had finished DX1 a couple of days before. Circular menus, uninspiring back routes in exploration (if even that). I didn't make it far enough to find the poor plot that other people mention, but I did make it far enough to feel that the Deus Ex soul wasn't in the game. Everything seemed dumbed down.

Someday I might give it another shot. My advice is probably to play it first if you insist on playing (assuming the other games' plot won't get spoiled, could someone inform?), and then continue on to DX1 and DXHR, both fantastic games.
One of these days, I'll play IW, just for spite.
I actually enjoyed Invisible War, I mean compared to the first one I could actually make my own character(male or female). I think the trick to enjoying it is to pretend it isn't Deus Ex. Plus it taught us how horrible universal ammo is  Overall it was a above average game for its time.

It is no where near as horrible as Fallout 3, that was a true franchise killing game. (edit) When compared to Fallout 1-2 and how 3 changed everything and even butchered the original story(IE had nothing to do with it). As a old fan it was like if a new Firefly show came out; only this time it is a Saturday morning cartoon kids show that looks like an anime, true it may be "ok" but as an old fan it will always be highly disappointing. Kind of like how Issac Asimov fans must have felt about "I Robot".
