Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Ok, CAG's, I'm having the "on the fence" problem. I see Metro 2033 is a mere $3 on GMG with the "GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G" Code. I've actually been waiting, somewhat foolishly, for a sub-$5 price, and this is excellent.

However, the game received mixed reviews from CAG's in the past, and, with the hype mostly gone, I am wondering: Is the game fun and worth my time? ($3 aside, that is; I know a great many games are "worth it" for $3, but I'm more concerned with the fun factor.)

It's silly, I know, but, sometimes, I can't push myself off the fence.
Metro 2033 is an AMAZING GAME from the guys who made Stalker series. If you have the GPU to run at high resolutions, the environment is visually astounding. Gameplay is interesting. Aa FPS, its okay with the innovation that your bullets are also currency. Compared to the Stalker series, its much more linear which is good if you want to have a game that you can play and ultimately finish.

Was really impressed with Metro 2033 and can't wait for its sequal "last light." At $3, its totally worth it.

PS: If you do get it, watch out for the "librarians"

I liked Metro 2033. If you enjoy games with the bleak Soviet atmosphere (such as with the Stalker series), this has it in spades. It's a very linear game though, walking you through the story. You can decide to stealth past an area or shoot your way through but you'll be seeing the same sights.

I never bothered to read up on everyone's criticisms so I can't respond directly to them. I know some people complained about the required systems to play the game but it ran fine for me with an i3 and a 9800+ GTX with medium settings and looked nice. Some of the mechanics can be frustrating (gas mask filters) and you can potentially get yourself stuck in a spot hurt for resources but that just felt like part of the setting to me. I didn't have any specific issues with AI or shooter mechanics but I'm not a stickler for those things unless they're really bad.

I bought it for $4.99 during one of its omnipresent sales and enjoyed it all the way through. If I'd had paid up to $20, I think I would still be saying the same; higher than that and I'd start having more nitpicks. But I'm a guy who didn't buy Skyrim until it was $25 so so take that $20 ceiling for what it is :D

I'd happily replay it at some point except I'm trying to clear a respectable amount of backlog. I plan on buying Last Light and may even pre-order it if GMG or someone runs a good pre-order sale.

I thought Metro 2033 was mediocre, to be honest. Every level felt like it chained me to slow moving Russians from encounter to encounter, and the few times where it let me off the leash and got fun, it was basically Call of Duty with terrible stealth mechanics.

That said, the graphics are nice and the shooting isn't too bad for a while. I don't think you'll waste your time if you buy it just to play as much as you can tolerate.

Oh, and it's one of THOSE games. You know the sort, ones that you can't dislike without being assumed to have "not understood" it or been "too casual" for it so the conversation is always a little one-sided.

Today's deal is Cryostasis at 75% off ($3.25)

The North Pole, 1981... Alexander Nesterov is sent to investigate the 'North Wind', a nuclear ice-breaker now trapped in the Arctic Circle with its crew frozen to death. Alexander must fight the horrors contained within the frozen vessel and use his mysterious 'Mental Echo' ability to reveal the final moments of the dead crew.
Genre: Action

Cryostasis is a very underrated game, and I highly recommend it. However, you might be better off waiting for Amazon's 1C bundle since it's 'cheaper' (on a per-game basis).

It's a very, very, slow game. Think of a very slow movie with a lot of flashbacks that takes while to make sense. If you like wondering around clueless as to why, you'll have fun.
I thought Metro 2033 was mediocre, to be honest.
Between this and SR3, I think the take-away is that you and I shouldn't buy one another video games for Christmas

I loved Metro 2033, bought it when it first came out for $35 and felt it was worth it. It is a very atmospheric game and is done up great. Weapons act like how you'd expect being they are very old and not well maintained and in many cases built from scratch, same with ammo. Also having to conserve ammo because it is your currency is nice as you can't just spray and pray and have to go into each fight tactically. It is a linear game, but it is done very well and doesn't take away from it at all.
Bunny Must Die is a freeware game, if anyone's curious. I think it has Japanese menus, but that doesn't matter.
No it isn't. It's no more freeware than the Touhou games are.
Between this and SR3, I think the take-away is that you and I shouldn't buy one another video games for Christmas
Hey, I think both games are good for $5-10 for someone who doesn't need all his games to be the best (And I don't mean that in a condescending sense. I mean that in the sense that most of you, MYSELF INCLUDED would fall into that category.). I had fun at times with both games but both left me with strong negative impressions as well.

I'd like to thank you all for pushing me off the fence - I went ahead and grabbed Metro 2033. In addition, I finally activated my $2.00 credit, which will also apply to the winner of my "First to Send Me a GMG Referral Link Gets the Other $2.00 Credit" Contest: Mr. Ochentay4.

So, Ochentay4, if you're still around these parts, enjoy your extra $2.

MikeUFC should post his Cryostasis SteamRecommendation here. If he doesn't by later tonight, I might.

I haven't played my Amazon-bought copy yet, and I won't be double-dipping on Steam as there's no achievements.

Pitman already taken, might be best to do these through PMs so you don't get people snatching them up without saying anything.

While my comment was somewhat aimed, I've noticed that most giveaways such as those are lurked and many people don't say anything.

Oh, I know. I was just letting you know I'm not one of the assholes, lol. ;)

Wow, didn't think that would generate that much interest. I've dropped a couple other codes and two CAG's got them. Im just happy if someone can enjoy them and they don't go to waste. A thanks is appreciated but I understand some may get lurked. I might do the PM thing next time but just don't want to get a bunch of PMs. anyway, enjoy the games.

Ask and you shall receive, my friend.

Let's be real. There's a lot of things wrong with this game. The graphics are mediocre, the shooting/melee mechanics are poor at best and it's probably the most poorly optimized game I've ever played. Even on beefy systems, you'll experience a relatively poor framerate...That said, this game is very strangely compelling. It's a puzzle game with some (albeit simple and clumsy) combat implemented. The atmosphere, situations and especially story with the way it's told make it worth it to see it through the end. An easy recommendation if you can get this for $5 or less.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing... I haven't seen Sequence in a bundle (although I may have missed it), but everything else is pretty mediocre this time around.

Interested in Sequence and maybe Bunny Must Die, but for a $5+ minimum, not worth it. Not really even worth it for $4 this time around.

The last IR bundle with Analogue and Waves was actually really good though.

Sequence hasn't been in a bundle, but it has been given out free before by the developer on neogaf. Sword and Soldier was in a humble bundle, you could get it by beating the average (which was too high IMO, you were better off waiting for it to be in another bundle). CTDV was in an Indie Gala bundle, which I'm glad I passed on.

The only game I already had from this Indie Royale is Sequence, cuz I got a key from the developer for free.
If anyone was disappointed in missing a Pitman Desura key, just send me a PM and you can have mine. :) (Remember, it's Desura, not Steam.)
You're welcome. :)

Too bad I missed Sequence back then. I've been looking at the game for awhile; it looks like something I'd enjoy (Guitar Hero RPG? lol). It'll be $2 again during the Winter sale though, so I'll just wait for that.

I'm in complete agreement. There are definitely positives: atmosphere, for one. Mostly though I found it to be a mediocre experience and it's one of the rare FPS games I've never finished.

I have to agree with both of you, mediocre and poorly optimized mess. The gunplay didn't even feel good to me. I probably should go back to it but it's been long enough that steam doesn't even say when I last played it and I haven't had a desire.

I can understand what people see in it, but I just don't see the same things.

So what exactly is the point of steamgifts.com? Just to be nice? Is it basically just a raffle without actually having to pay anything to enter? What're the "(_P)"s next to the title of the games? Say I wanted to give away Borderlands 2, would the giveaway be open to anybody?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but I just now noticed all those steamgift sigs.

Well, it's a giveaway site. You give games away.

The P stands for what the retail value of the game is. For example, if you want to enter giveaway for Borderlands 2, the retail value is $60 now, so you'd spend 60P to enter it. It's to stop people from entering EVERY give away at once. You have to be a bit more selective with the ones you enter. Your points regenerate over time though.

Otherwise, it's pretty self-explanatory. You can host an open giveaway, but you can also make the giveaway ONLY open to a certain Steam group (like the CAG Steam Group), and you can also add that only those above a certain contributor level can enter. Your contributor level is just a mirror of how the total value of all the games you've given away, i.e. if you gave away Borderlands 2, and FTL, you'd have $60 + $10 = $70 contributor level.

Hope that answers your questions. :)

Ita essentially a raffle. You can make a private giveaway so only people you want can enter
