Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

If a game uses Steamworks it registers on Steam.

It's listed on the Steam support page.

CheapLikeAFox, this newest IndieGala was made for you. 7 simulation games including greats like Deer Drive and Police Simulator.

For those of us who prefer games being linked to steam, this bundle has none of that.

Truer words have never been spoken :)

Already bought. Had Bus Driver and Euro Truck Sim already (and played them both) but the Police Sim 2 is the star as it is fairly recent. Loving the gamersgate redemption too.
the Police Sim 2 is the star as it is fairly recent.
Police Simulator 2 sounds dangerously like a real game in a world of heavy machinery simulations.

Also, when you click on it from the IG page, you get told "This video is private"
Actually I kinda dread the Steam Autumn sale, that means all sorts of cags will be coming out of the woodwork, and asking the same damn questions two or three times every page, even though it is answered in the last 20 posts. Who are those people anyway? Console peasants that come to the PC side only for the major sales? Are they a breed of CAG that hibernates between sales? Why do they lack the decency to read a few pages of posts before making the-world-revolves-around-me posts?

At least in this thread we won't get "Does this register on Steam?" in every other post...
Does Left 4 Dead register on Steam? Too lazy to search myself
Also when does the Thanksgiving free giveaway on Steam start?
Will Origin have another sale like their Fall Harvest one?
If a Cag farts in a forest and there is no one around, does it make a sound?
Oh hey, we should reminisce about tubgirl, too.

I'll invite everyone to an AIM chat for it.

Any predictions on the format of the autumn sale? Just a stock running sale with some dailies?
im fine with anything so long as they dont have those horrid flash sales again.
also I dont want to do any achievement hunting. Everytime they had achievement hunting, I ended up wasting so much time to actually do them. I dont think I ever bought a game JUST to do its achievement, but I did think about it for a few of the cheap games.

I think you're better than me then :p

Clearly I did have some interest in the game, but, yeah, wouldnt have bought it w/o the achievement.

When the stars and moon align, so Hydrophobia and Magicka are on sale simultaneously.

Imagine if this thread had a Valve rep posting here.

"VALVE REP IS GAME X GOING ON SALE"
"VALVE REP CAN YOU PRICE-MATCH THE GREY-MARKET KEY SALE ON SKETCHY WEBSITE Y"
"VALVE REP THIS THREAD IS TOO BIG AND I CAN'T SEARCH THE LAST TWO PAGES, BUT ANSWER MY QUESTION ANYWAY"

Seriously though I hope the Steam sale has prices similar to Amazon. I have so much money in my Paypal account.

The new Indie Gala made my day. Yes I am serious and yes I had an insta buy kinda moment.

Not looking forward to 40 mins from now where my wallet is in for a potential beating .

Not to detract from Amazon's sales (they are great), but most of their really good ones are bundles, and odds are a lot of us already have/had a few games from those bundles making them a not so great deal for us.

Amazon has had some great prices on single games no doubt though.

I think I'm going to take it easy this sale. Hoping for at least 50% on Walking Dead and maybe 33% on Hotline Miami. On the fence on Hotline though.

Walking Dead is $12.49 on Amazon. Steamworks.

I love the fact that, in my timezone, the day is almost over and, when I wake up tomorrow, I'll be thrown in a warzone scenario with burst of (hopefully) amazing sales, screams of disappointment, burning scars of past flash reductions, whispered wiretaps of incoming offers, shattered dreams, miles of pages to browse to try and recollect data and so on... it'll be like watching one of the best episodes of Lost, only in first person and textual form!

hotline miami doesnt work on windows 8 per the forums for the game, hotline miami Developers do not intend to patch this or support the title any further sadly from what I read on their news page.

What sales are people looking forward too?
Id like to hear more about what games people are looking forward too so I have a better idea to know what games look fun so I can keep an eye on them.
oh how I claim bullshit. BF3 beta would barely even run off mine. I nearly cried that day.

I'm just sad it fried to death via the PSU, but it served well for like 4+ years.
No bullshit. I have no idea how this thing has held out for so long for me. To be fair, I have not played BF3 and have no idea how that would run. But XCOM, Saint's Row the Third, Deus Ex: HR, etc. all run without any issues.

My bottleneck on this computer right now has pretty clearly been the 4 gigs of ram.

I've reached my saturation point with Steam sales personally :(

The drug just has no effect on me anymore.

I have to resort to buying games like this:

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-TEXAS/the-real-texas

and obscure European sims from other retailers.

I probably got my biggest high when I saw the new Indie Gala and the games I want most on Steam are on Greenlight (Sang Froid for example).

Most of what I'm looking forward to are games that haven't yet or rarely see a discount. Here are some from my wish list:

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II
FTL: Faster Than Light
Beyond Divinity
Mark of the Ninja
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Wanderlust: Rebirth

I'm also holding on to hope that some newer titles will see discounts, but I'm guessing I'll need to wait for the winter sale:

Scriblenauts Unlimited
Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock
Towns

But who knows!

Gotta love that simulator bundle, many gamers are raging about how they cant get John Deere drive green anymore on steam since it revolutionized tractor simulations for pc gaming.

Sounds like you have steam fatigue, not really much left there for me, hope they fix that over that years and get some new games.

But, does it activate on Steam? I don't want to use the Amazon client, it's a disaster. All other clients should bow down to Steam and offer sacrifices of crappy indie platformers. I think this guy feels the same...
But that just says it uses Steamworks. I wanna know if it registers on Steam or not. Oh well, thanks anyways guys.
But, in all seriousness, I plan on using steam wallet for my purchases so I'm hoping for the same on Steam.
Gotta love that simulator bundle, many gamers are raging about how they cant get John Deere drive green anymore on steam since it revolutionized tractor simulations for pc gaming.
That was indeed tragic. I think next time I will be a bit more assertive with some of the games I want on Steam. I always passed on John Deere thinking next sale, next sale - and now - no cigar!

That said, if it is cheap enough I might be picking up a few copies of Secret of the Magic Crystal to support and get in on the part 2 action.

To be fair, XCOM runs perfectly fine on all high settings on my old system, but BF3 on low/med plays like one of those hula girl flip books...with half the pages missing.

Most of the stuff I'm looking for are games that have been in bundles that I've missed. Top 2 are Blackwell and MacGuffin's Curse.
What sales are people looking forward too?

I'm personally hoping FO:NV gets 75% off this sale.

And yet there's more ways to expand. I'd love to see NFS:U2 style pimp-my-combine, spinners, ground effect lighting, etc.

I can also definitively say that the first game that let me drive combine was Carmageddon!

I think the sale I'd like to see most is the Still Life series.

I played through Post Mortem after getting it from the Groupees bundle and want to see what those guys do next.

Otherwise I don't really know. Maybe something cheap will surprise me, but I don't anticipate spending more than $15 this sale.

Big things I am looking forward too on sale (either for this Autumn or Holiday sale) are:

Of Orcs and Men 50% off
Anno 2070 Deep Sea expansion 50% off
Mark of the Ninja
Deadlight
Rayman Origins $10 or under
FTL
I think I'm going to take it easy this sale. Hoping for at least 50% on Walking Dead and maybe 33% on Hotline Miami. On the fence on Hotline though.
Hotline Miami is really good in my oppinion. It's worth the $10 so anything less is a steal. I put more time into that than some of the AAA titles I've bought recently. It might have just struck the right chord with me but it's got good buzz review wise. Watch Giant Bomb's QuickLook. it shows it off perfectly.

So it's water vapor and not steam, but this is what the last two pages back reminded me of:

7D3JX.gif

As long as this sale is just that, and not an achievement or objective hunt, I'll be happy. This time of year is too damned busy for such foolishness.

Ooh, I'd love Rayman Origins to go cheap. I just (finally) beat Borderlands 2 last night (the first playthrough anyway) and I need a bit of a palate cleanser before I tackle the remaining side missions and PT2 in Borderlands 2.
There's a demo on steam. It didn't impress me. It played like a early/mid-90s shareware game.
Wasn't almost every game during the 90s shareware at some point?

I traded a copy of BF3 for Mark of the Ninja. Definitely a fun game. Plenty of checkpoints if you mess something up and want to back up to try again. Levels aren't huge be there are several paths to take to get to the objective.

What I'd like to see: Deathspanks 1 and 2 at 75% off, Rune Classic 75% off, (it won't happen b/c of IP issues but) Amalur 75% off, and hmmm... most of the other stuff on my list is a bunch of indie titles that could end up in bundles so who knows.
