also came with Stacking and Psychonauts, and Brutal Legend if you BTA. Was where I picked them up, though of course I haven't played them yet (well I had already played Psychonuats, but really need to get on the other two). Double Fine is easily one of my favorite developers, if only because they keep trying new things and if nothing else always have great writing and humor ^_^
Brutal legend was awesome for a metal head as myself. It's really cool for it's new ideas (plus the RTS made me go huh? It was cool too :)

Costume Quest is awesome indeed. I like the feeling of a semi-shallow RPG with some quirks to it. A buy if it's $5 (DLC is good too)
So far Costume Quest has surprisingly been my favorite DF game. I've played and beaten CQ, Psychonauts, and the Cave, while also playing (but not yet beating) Brutal Legend and Stacking. Something about CQ's cute but charmingly simple world and characters caught me off guard and had me smiling more than once. The gameplay was a bit shallow, sure, but it was still fun enough for me to enjoy for the most part. I loved the DLC as well :)

Some TSW advise (don't make the mistakes I've made)... (I'm QL5/6, wrapping up my last couple missions in Savage Coast, before resuming Blue Mountain.

Crafting is utterly worthless. By the time you have the materials you need, you'll have found better drops. Sell surplus for Pax Romana (the ordinary currency). I suppose at top rank (QL10) it may have be worth it...
I agree. Crafting in TSW has very limited use besides crafting blue or better quality glyphs/signets and you don't come across blue or better toolkits very often (or not at all) solo.

Might I add it's also possible to "fast travel" with the /reset command to locations - provided you've done some exploring and discovered most or all anima (respawn) wells. Very helpful as the regions get larger and you find yourself needing to run back to certain places. Just be sure to unequip all gear to save Pax off repairing - the higher quality your gear is, the more it cost to repair in the long run.

Shhhhh, GabeN will take away our Funbux if he finds we've been lazing away at our jo- er, hobby ;)
[conspiracy theory mode]

I'm betting the dev's that decided to have games w/ LOTS of cards (Awesomenauts has 14 in total - they do a drop of 7 max before a Booster pack) did that purposely so people would actually play and/or idle the hell out of a game - and increase the # of hours played/idled by players. ;)

[/conspiracy theory mode]

Then you have games like TWD - 3 cards before a Booster Pack, only 5 to collect in total. ;)

Like others have said, if people would just stfu and not complain about the off topic stuff, nor hit the report button, it has a funny way of self limiting. Instead whiny bitches cry and whine, which invariably leads to off topic posts about being off topic, thus perpetuating the problem. Then a mod shift clicks and wipes out 3 pages of the thread.

If you only want to know about deals, then here's a useful site to check for steam deals:

http://store.steampowered.com

Upper right corner has weekend/midweek deals, mid-right side has the daily deal. Done. Use the Enhanced Steam plug-in and you'll know if it's the lowest price ever.

If you seriously want a thread that only has deal talk, this thread will be dead in a week, the OP won't get updated, and most people will move on.

Sadly, it's not a lesson anymore, as we lost Idiotekque and Mind Link to this fight, both have been silenced. On a note about steam deals, I'm not sure if to hold out on Darksiders 2 DLC. it'll be on sale like that again, I'm not sure how soon though.

Here's the thing, they were shouting the loudest because of all of this :bs: and got silenced for it. Both idiot and mind link took up and called them out (more outraged than anyone) and got silenced for it. I'm surprised I wasn't, as I also partook, but I'm not sure what happened.
Edit: Jayson Guy, it says they've been silenced, whatever that means. I think Idiot said he was IP banned too though.
they'll be back until we're disappointed by the winter sale

I feel like I'm obligated pipe up here because it was I who brought this thread to the moderators' attention earlier this week --well before the zombie and religion discussions-- and because I expressed my desire for more zealous (DPsycho caught the pun) moderation yesterday (this was one of the posts that was deleted).

The original problem was that someone (not Idiotekque) posted images of pornographic actresses in the first couple pages of the thread. They were off-topic, yes, but they were also blatantly inappropriate. I think a lot of people discussing this issue are unaware of these posts. I reported these pictures shortly after they were posted and they were deleted promptly, lots of CAGs probably never saw that they were there. It was the sort of content that clearly flagged this thread for a sharper eye from the moderators; and well it should.

I thought the zombie discussion was tedious, but it was about Steam games so I'm not sure why it was included in the cull.

I also objected to, but did not report, the religion discussion. Please remember that this began with someone who was otherwise on-topic briefly mentioned a conversion-happy ex. This invited someone (not Spiritcore) to produce several wall-of-text posts insisting that we should understand Christians better, because they're only trying to save us all from hell. The Christian-Apologist-Gamer posts were in their own way harassing -- repeatedly insisting that we make allowances for Christians who express bigotry toward the rest of us. No one is interested in having that conversation here.

For the record: I like the free-wheeling nature of this thread. I like the discussions, I like the tangents, and I think we're in danger of exaggerating the "off-topic" problem. 98.8% of the thread is on-topic with only short side-discursions.

However, I think people should also be able to enjoy the thread without feeling harassed, belittled, or preached at. We all see enough of that in our daily lives without needing to put up with it during hobby-time.

who posted porn...was it tasteful like playboy or filthy like swank?
no worse than 32% of steam banners lol

Softcore, where inappropriates were covered, but that's it.

Ah, sorry. ^_^ I misunderstood. I thought your reply was intended to be like "no sh*t sherlock".
yeah, I did too.

For those wanting Command & Conquer games and don't care about Steam, you can get all C&C games by buying the Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection which activates on Origin and has been as cheap as $8 when on sale. I also don't see EA participating in the card thing since that is just one more reason not to use Origin.
Most of them are freeware games now. Freeware titles that you can download legally are: Command & Conquer - Firestorm, Command & Conquer Gold, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, and Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. We actually have a list of free and legal game downloads in the PC section of the website (I know, there's more than just the Steam thread? craziness). Too lazy to find all of the links to all of the games.

Is this combined PSN/Steam signature pic too large/annoying/ugly?
Don't you dare use the word "ugly" in reference to Reon Kadena again, unless it's to express how ugly it is that they haven't cloned her yet.

Ask HG Wells. ;)
Actually, if you don't mind, I'll ask The Doctor.

I've seen that mentioned, but honestly, I haven't had a need to travel while dead. I just haven't had a hard time crossing zones yet (in early BM atm)

So I'm ZERO good at this Rogue Legacy.. but I've sat here since my last post and play constantly.. so almost 5 hrs played straight?  I can't help it.. I keep restarting.  I'm TOTALLY doing it wrong.

It certainly is a nifty shortcut for being impatient, but I often find myself just running around for the heck of it just to enjoy the scenery - while being chased by bloodthirsty enemies. Thanks sprint upgrade! ;)d

I'll be contrarian here (I guess you can start calling me Rolling Skull 2 or Mooby Jr) and say I found Costume Quest pretty dull on PS3. Maybe the PC version's better, but I wasn't wild about the combat system and the wandering from house to house felt pretty pointless too.

While this is technically accurate, good luck trying to get those pre-'96 titles to run on a modern PC unless you've invested in the C&C Ultimate Collection that EA came out with last year.

Personally, I feel 5 should be the standard amount of cards for a game. It makes sense for trading as you only have to track down 2 cards, and if the market is any guide they hold better prices per card than ones with more cards than can even fit on a page. I really don't get the logic of producing a ridiculous amount of cards, then again they aren't exactly the best thought out idea all around. But I digress

I picked up Deadly Despair when it was on sale a while back, as the idea of moving more quickly through the game appeals to me. It seems slightly ridiculous - paying to cut down on the hours I invest in a game - but I've just got so many games to get through! $0.19 seems acceptable to me (I got it for $0.40 from Gamersgate some months back, and reviewed/rated it to get $0.30 back in store credit!).

When I release a game on Steam, it'll be a set of 3 cards, 2 drops.  Every crafted badge generates one booster pack for someone with a chance of containing the entire deck.  Easiest foil badge to craft, too.  I just want to see how the market takes to it.

(Realistically, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve imposes 5 as a minimum.)

There's no "technically accurate" about them being free; they are free. You don't know how to right click, go into Properties, and choose Compatibility Mode settings? And have you heard of DOSbox, the free program that GOG releases their games through, many of which predate C&C? Or Oracle VirtualBox, a program that lets you install a separate OS on an allocated space on your HDD that you can use to install Windows 98 and play your games on? Oh, but EA wants you to think you have to buy their official releases of otherwise free games if you ever want to play them.

We call that getting swindled, son.

Yes, of course I have. Odds are better than even I've been PC gaming longer than you. I can tell you from personal experience that simply tweaking compatibility settings will not work with the C&C Gold or Red Alert 1 games.

I'm sure that there are those who are willing to install virtual drives and old operating systems on their computers in order to play 20-year-old RTS games. To those people who read my comment, I withdraw it. It seems unikely to me that this demographic represents your typical computer gamer.

And yet we're not. This is Cheap Ass Gamer, and this is the Steam thread, where it's 75% off or bust. You're talking about spending money on freeware for the sake of convenience. Have the decency to retain your CAG credibility by not falling for EA's marketing ploys, guys.

  • Buying it from GameStop
  • Normally freeware
  • Redeems on Origin
  • Over 15 years old
  • 55% off MSRP
Really? Really?

I've been playing Ys: Oath... I MUST say the game is FANTASTIC. I needed a "Secret of mana kind of" rush. This game surpasses my expectatives. I like EVERYTHING from it. Granted I only played just about an hour and a half, but what I played was über-funtastic :joystick:

It hurts my soul everytime I read "Oracle" on my beloved Ex-Sun products :(

I will buy the collection at $5, or maybe $6 (mainly just for Generals :bouncy:)... but not from Gamestop. I have not problem redeeming it on Origin

I'm not having a lot of fun playing Euro Truck Simulator 2. I've spent the past 20 minutes trying to back my first payload into place to drop it off. I've tried both Keyboard+Mouse & Controller setups, but no matter what the damn trailer keeps jackknifing to the left when I try to back up. Is there some trick to this?

Sure, you can cheat and have the game drop it off for you if you want, but who wants to do that?

Do you switch camera views? I always do to the overhead camera. The game isn't equipped very well to back up with the inside cab view. And it takes a while to get used to backing up a trailer because intuitively we learn to turn the wheel left and right to go left and right. When you are reversing a trailer it's sort of the opposite. You turn the wheel right to get the trailer to go left, and left to get it to turn right. It takes a while to get used to (both in game and in real life). I had some interesting moments when I was first learning to drive a truck w/ trailer in real life. Thankfully the worst damage I ever did was a broken tail light on the trailer.

Yeah, I'm using the overhead view. I learned real quick that it's really hard to do this with the inside the cab view. lol

Sounds like it's just a matter of getting a sense of how to maneuver the rig. Once I get it down, I'm guessing I should be OK. So I'll stick with it a little while longer and keep in mind your advice while I'm doing it. Thanks for the advice.

Can I ask, since you've actually driven a rig in real life, do you think that has helped you with the game? Or is the game handle differently than a real truck would?

I agree. Those that have 10 or more make it a hassle to have to track down the remaining cards. And you're correct, they mostly do seem to hold higher prices when there are fewer cards in the set. I imagine that profit has to be similar for both sets, though I guess that's what Valve is studying.

I think everyone has a hell of a time parking the rig the first time. I found it helped a bit to get it in position, then go back to cab view to make sure my steering wheel was straight.

Well I've never driven a big rig, just a big work truck with a trailer so it's different as far as the mechanics involved. Regular trucks don't have anywhere near as many gears and the turning radius needed isn't nearly as large as you need with a big rig.

That said, there's a lot of similarities that can help. Always keeping your eye on the mirrors, especially when doing any turns, is crucial and knowing how wide you sort of need to take your turns helps. The physics on the game are pretty decent. In real life, the faster you go the more sensitive the trailer gets to small movements in the steering wheel and the increased chance of jackknifing is there. It never happened to me but there were definitely times the trailer started doing a little left to right movement when I got too fast.

It's helped the most in backing up since I know what to expect, but I'm still far from good at it in game. The trickiest part is that you have to anticipate the movement of the trailer and adjust as you are backing up. Meaning you can't just turn the trailer left and then right and be done. When you turn left you have to start adjusting back to the right before the trailer is quite in the direction you want because if you don't then when you do have to straighten out your cab you end up moving the direction of the trailer in the process.

I still had a hell of a time the first time though and I still jackknifed the crap out of my rig the first mission. Partially, it's a game so I'm not really as focused on it as I would in real life, but the other part is that it just has its own little things you have to adjust to. It takes a while to get a feel for distance between your view and the edge of the lane, to get used to how much time you need to slow down and stop, etc.

So TL:DR - it has helped a little, but not much.

Well let's look at it from the other side too and even ignore the Gamestop deal. I said it was as cheap as $8 for the deal so buying one game from Steam at 70% off is almost as much as buying the entire collection. The days of 75% off for EA games on Steam could be gone. Even at 75% off, the games are still $5 each. There are still 5 of the games that are at least $5 each so I don't consider it being swindled if you want at least 2 of the pay titles that exist on Steam. The collection still has much more value when on sale compared to a Steam Command & Conquer sale. Just mentioning it is an option for those that don't mind a non-Steam platform.

FYI if anyone wants their steamsignature.com profile pic to show your number of badges instead of your country, go to your Steam profile and change country to "do not display". xanchui & I figured this out earlier today.

Paying for freeware seems insane.

That's where you went off the tracks

Time = money

It's like buying a digital copy of Animal Crossing digitally for 5 bucks more because you know you have to visit it each and every day.

A deal isn't a deal if it means extra work.

Plus Steam has certainly made it harder to set up their card book feature (or whatever they called it) to display your cards. Now they have to have multiple or dynamic formats for a card page instead of a fixed format they could have had if they made everyone submit the same number of cards.

Just saw the posts about the steamsignature website thanks for that btw going to put mine as my sig! :)

MulderYuffie you need to go back and edit your sig picture to online status so it looks like you have no life outside of Steam. Get with the program man! :joystick:
