The irony of people on a site called "cheapassgamers" calling people out for trying to make a buck never escapes me. Harkens me back to the good old days when Konami sent me a free limted edition MGS4 40gb PS3 and members of the site were calling me immoral and warning me how karma was going to bite me in the ass. When I want morality I will go to church. Let the people try to make a buck. If they fail, that is there concern. No different than buying stocks. Most people cant get into an IPO and they have to buy the stock in the secondary market.
Thank you! A thinking, reasonable American!

Yes you did make a stupid comment.

There's a big difference from being part of Nintendo or even part of the retail infrastructure and being part of the bottom feeding eBay economy.

Yet you do not say what that difference is? Are you aware that when Nintendo released the original 3DS the Retail price was $250.00 while the manufacturing cost was $100.71. More than a 50% mark up. Nintendo selling an item with a high mark up versus a customer reselling an item they purchased for more money.
thats a horrible argument, although the manufacturing cost is only 100, those cost don't account for research and development, marketing etc..
So, come October 19th, will we be able to put the Wii U preorders on eBay? I know it has to be within 30 days, right?
There will be children with broken hearts on Christmas morning because of people like you. Congratulations.

Thank you. :) Because I will be selling them to parents and they won't let their kids play it? I'd be broken hearted too.

Better return your Wii U to GameStop because that's one less console going to the kids.

God I love the flipping conversations so much. I'm not even being sarcastic. I often check the skylanders, borderlands, etc. threads to see what people are saying to each other. They are very entertaining.
Because I will be selling them to parents? You people suck at trying to make people feel bad.
Exactly. It's just parents who have extra cash buying them. Nothing wrong with this whatsoever except that its competition for me!

Bring on the haterade......

Nintendo sold the 3DS at a loss for almost a year after it dropped the price to $170. Manufacturing costs only make up a portion of the overall cost-per-unit.
target.com just cancelled my WiiU preorder, thankfully I had a backup at gamestop (#1 on list)
Did they give a reason? I too have a preorder with Target.com, but haven't received a cancellation email.

I had some grocery shopping to do yesterday so I went to Walmart and figured while I was there I would ask about preordering, knowing full well that finding a knowledgable Walmart employee is like spotting Bigfoot. Went and asked in layaway and they gave me the "We don't put items we don't have in stock on layaway" and "You can only preorder online". Then they referred me to electronics. Even though I knew nothing would come of it I still went to see if anyone had any knowledge. I asked one guy and he just said no then went and asked a coworker who first nodded know and then directed the first guy to go look for a preorder card by the games. He came empty handed of course. So I just went and asked when the layaway department opened in the morning and they said 7am when the store opens.
When I got home I called a different Walamrt to see if they knew anything - they didn't - so I asked what time layayway opened and they said at 9am.
So this morning I went to the first Walmart at 7am, no one else there. THe lady that was helping me gave me the same "can't preorder in store/no layaway for items we don't have". I gave her a brief explanation of the preorder memo. She knew nothing about it and said to call at 9am when the layaway person was in. I went home and decided to try the second Walmart at 9am. Got there and no one else was there. The associate, of course, knew nothing about it. A couple other associates were there saying the same preorder/layaway lines and one kept repeating "Sounds like a rain check to me". Finally one of them called a manager on her walkie who actually knew what I was talking about! She came over and pulled the memo up from next to the register and explained it to all three employees. They got me all set up but then for some reason my card wasn't reading and I had to run back home to grab cash. Was back in 15 minutes and they just finished my transaction up for me and I was on my way. First and only one on the list at this particular store. I still have a preorder at TRU so I will probably offer it to a friend or family member and if they don't need it I'll sell my preorder.

If I were to flip one, I think I would go with Cousin Craig. I picked up two preorders today. One for my son/me and one in case a family member or friend is scrounging for one later. If no one wants it, I'll throw it on Craig's list and see what happens. I'm not a big Ebayer but my concern would be a chargeback or something after they got the unit.
At this point, i don't think its fair for either side to act like they know what will happen. Its a no lose situation anyways.
Yes, no loss for anyone since you can return them. Also flippers account for a tiny percentage of preorder units if you math it out.
Because I will be selling them to parents? You people suck at trying to make people feel bad.
No, because the parents that waited in line for one only to be told no and can't afford higher than retail wont get them for their kids.
No, because the parents that waited in line for one only to be told no and can't afford higher than retail wont get them for their kids.
Then parents with more money would buy them? If I can't sell the few systems I got to resell, I would be returning it to the store, thus a kid would get one.

Kids are going to get them either way. Be relieved of this heavy burden.
Did u just preorder or did u go in the morning? Thinking of heading over to porter ranch soon :)
I went around 12:30pm. First 2 people at Layaway were fairly clueless, one told me I had to order online and then pick it up in store, but then finally they got someone who totally knew the deal, except for the whole "must pay money every 30 days" line which is concerning.
Went in at 1230PM to the Porter Ranch Walmart...

Didn't even have to wait in line :D
Wow, we must have literally passed in the aisle...
No, because the parents that waited in line for one only to be told no and can't afford higher than retail wont get them for their kids.
Lol, are people really this upset about this? You're ridiculous.

The funniest part is that they aren't even taking preorders for the white version. You know what that means? They don't even expect to sell out of the version that most parents would be buying. Stop whining, seriously.

For anyone who still cares, the Basic Bundle has been back in stock as of 6am this morning. I was at Walmart all night and got so bored so I decided to surf the web on their iPads and noticed this. I just checked a minute ago and the story is still the same.
I had some grocery shopping to do yesterday so I went to Walmart and figured while I was there I would ask about preordering, knowing full well that finding a knowledgable Walmart employee is like spotting Bigfoot.
Rarer, actually.

Is it even worth it to buy a Regular Wii? I never played any Gamecube or Wii SD games. I mainly want to pick up NSMB, Both Galaxies, and all the AAA cubes titles.
I'm thinking of going to Walmart in case best buy fucks me.
That's what I did, no thanks to this thread.

Got me so damn paranoid about my BB kiosk preorder that I went and ended up 42 bucks lighter than I went in:roll:. Have no clue where I'm at on the list. But this should at least guarantee that I don't do any line sitting unless I want to.

And this is the main reason that a retail store is not like a flipper. There's no risk with liberal return policies.

Look, I don't care about people flipping (although 27 is a bit much) but don't be delusional, mr "I'm an american and this is the american way" geotech, a flipper and a retailer is not the same thing. If you're gonna flip, at least understand what you're actually doing. Don't give us or yourself any of that "well gamestop buys low and sells high" bullshit.

There will be so many great deals on the original wii come the holidays that if I were you, I'd wait. You've waited this long. Hell Gamecubes were going for $25 new at target.

I'd grab a GC on the cheap and play those Wii games on the WiiU. That is, if you're getting a WiiU anytime soon:)

I'mm putting away the wii once I get the WiiU, but still undecided on what to do with the GC

Does anyone know if Walmart can actually hold your item all the way into the Layaway program or do you have to pick it up on Nov. 18?

My visit to the Secaucus Walmart was an emotional rollercoaster. I arrived at the store at midnight thinking there were already people lined up. I was the first person there asking about the Wii U layaway. Shortly after a couple arrived asking about the same thing. The girl employee that greeted us was very nice and informed us that we would be able to pick it up at 9am. She also said we would need to pick up a card with the UPC on it from Electronics and take it to layaway. The couple left, but I stayed. This is where the frustration began..

I walked over to Electronics and asked about it, but they were absolutely clueless and gave me this confused look. I showed them the leaked memo on their demo iPad and asked them to enter both the Item # and UPC # into the register, but it wouldn't come up (it turns out they had it in their system as 004549688086 when I went to pay later). At first I thought they didn't update their systems yet so I asked several times throughout the night. No luck. The guy told me to wait until 7am when his manager comes into the store. Uh-oh. :???:

Meanwhile from midnight to about 7am I was awake the whole night. Walked around the entire store, ate at McDonald's, watched The Avengers for the 2nd time, talked to all the employees, watched them clean up the mess the customers left behind earlier in the day, watched Netflix on their iPad with my account - free WIFI throughout the store.. cool, watched them clean and wax the floor, watched them set up for a commercial shoot.. All in all it was an eventful overnight/early morning. :whee:

Getting back on topic, the Electronics manager came in early at 6am. I asked him and got the same response: "The item is not in our system. We don't have any pre-orders for this. Come back on November 18". DOUBLE UH-OH.

At 7am I lined up in front of layaway in case other CAGers and trolls from the internetz decide to show up. Finally at 7:45 the 2nd person showed up and shortly after the same guy from the couple that showed up with me at midnight arrived and 1 more shortly after. The lady then asked us what we were lining up for. We told her for the Wii U. I asked her to check the UPC and again she couldn't find it in the system. She told us that we "needed the actual item to be in stock in order to put it on layaway". I told her about today's front page ad which specifically stated Wii U Layawway - Pick up November 18. She didn't believe it and brushed us off eventually. :argue: UH-TRIPLE-fuckING-OH.

At 8:50am the store manager came in and assured us that we would be getting our Wii U pre-orders beginning at 9am. All of us were RELIEVED to hear this. :D

At 9:05am I walk up to the layaway counter and give the cashier my ID and Credit Card. He entered my details and swiped the card.. BEEP. Charge denied. OK fine, no problem. I have 2 other cards on me. 2nd card: BEEP. wtf? 3rd card: BEEP. fuck YOU WALMART AKLJRWEKLJRKLWEJRKLWJEKLRJJ@#IOJ@K#J$IO@#UJ@#$UI$#U. :twoguns:

Called Citi and found out that they suspected fraud because I was in NJ when I live in NY.. really?? Because I crossed the river they think it's fraud? They must be really anal about that. The lady on the phone cleared my account and I was finally able to charge the amount.

The register printed out a 4 foot long receipt but no labels. I assume they'll print them out later when pre-orders are sold out.

Grand Total: $753.92 - $748.91 Deposit - $5 Layaway Open Fee = $0.01 New Balance
$5 will be returned to me in cash, not Walmart Gift Card, since I made the purchase in NJ.

tl;dr

The Walmart I went to did a shitty job getting Electronics and layaway on the same page.
Is there really an expectation these will be hard to find after launch?
It's anyone's guess. Could be another Wii (which no one expected to be so popular) or it might be another 3DS. I don't remember the 3DS having preorders sold out everywhere though, so who knows...

I was told my preorder isn't guaranteed, so that if they don't have enough on the first shipment I will get one from the following shipments. My friend that went to the same Walmart was told he can pick his up anytime after nov 14. Which is the true? do we know?

Major Disaster Averted @ Secaucus Walmart

That cracks me up, a major disaster is a plane crash, earth quake, Sunami where you lose family and friends. Not getting your Wii U on launch date = not even close to major disaster. You need need some life perstective my friend, seriously thats pathetic.
Is there really an expectation these will be hard to find after launch?
The black one will be hard to find for a while, but I really doubt the white one will be hard to find in most areas. In major cities they may be all sold out, but I think most places will have white ones.

Walmart isn't even accepting preorders for the white ones, which means either they don't expect to sell out or they want to make sure a lot of people show up at launch. I assume the former, but who knows.

Nope. This is guaranteed. It will come under separate shipment for all preorders.

That's not the only definition of disaster, Merriam-Webster.

Ok we can add the president getting shot, a family member dying ECT ECT still in no way not getting your Wii U preorder = a major disaster. It's just not, it's a freaking video game for god's sake. Even if you happened to miss getting one on launch, you could still pick one up later. please tell me how this equates to major disaster??? Maybe your just a little melodramatic?

I showed up to my walmart this morning around 10 am, no one in electronics. Went up to customer service after ten minutes and asked them for help in electronics. The girl there was very professional and apologized, got someone to meet me there, was then escorted to layaway, and the assistant manager arrived with the memo. Took her a while to get it done, she was reading everything for the first time and said I was the first pre-order they had gotten. Came to $42 and change for the minimum deposit.

And I was told that it was guaranteed, so I wouldn't worry too much about your Wii-U not being guaranteed.

it seemed WAY too easy to preorder it this morning... i did it at noon today with no waiting at a very busy wal-mart

i feel like if these things were really that limited (or if wal-mart really does have a process in place that prevents themselves from selling too many preorders), then we would've seen some angry posts in this thread by now about how they missed out on a Wii U preorder

seems like there are plenty of these Wii U Deluxe preorders to be had out there

I got my pre order at gamestop, I was #2..... They only took 16 pre orders total before canceling.

Am I the only one that doesn't think the demand will be extremely high?

Its funny that people keep asking "is this really going to be limited? I don't think so because this one store out of the whole world only took x amount pre-orders!"

No one is going to know till prob a few days before Nov 18th when stores find out how many units they are getting and even then, how many they will get on a 2nd shipment and how long till they get it.

You seem overly sensitive to my choice of words on a random forum on the internet. Maybe it's you who needs some life perspective?

I'm not sure about how limited they will be be I'm sure the ease of the Walmart preorder is more of confusion than lack of interest. If people on CAG on having issues with employees knowing what's going on then the average person or uninformed parent doesn't stand a chance. The layaway requirement adds another bump where some will just give up.

Lots of people flipping these, even on these forums it seems... I gave it some thought. I can't really afford a WiiU in the first place, but my wife and I really want one so we are going to go dig up the money. I was strongly considering flipping one, but then I realized that the WiiU is very much something that kids are going to get. More so than say the PS4 or next Xbox will be. Stillwater MN isn't a huge town. I live very close to Minneapolis, and lived there for a very long time prior to moving here. We like it here. I just feel like I would be taking advantage of something that right now shouldn't be taken advantage of. People don't really have a lot of cash right now and tons of parents are down to one income or less. List price alone on the thing is fairly high... Doubling it is going to make it cost prohibitive for kids to get one. I just feel like... We only need the one.... I could use the extra cash and all but maybe I'll throw some good karma into the world and hope some parent finds it for their little kid instead of some jerk trying to exploit broke parents around the holidays.

I agree with this. The general consensus seems to be that even the Walmart employees have no idea what's going on. I mean it's on the front page of their circular. There's no way it's just CAGers asking about it.
