Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

**** = EXTREME YMMV - only offered online, only way you'll find it in a store is if someone returned it from online.

Anyone know if there's any sort of limitation to this stock transfer idea? Seems like I could wait out a few games till it's down to 50%, and if they're out of stock locally, could just request a transfer anywhere that still has one.

One big limitation. They do not really count the last 1-3 items as "stock".(this is apparently typical for the B&M/Online combo)

Kind of annoying since I called the 800 number for tru and they said none in my area (I tried 2 zip codes and 50 mile radius). I have seen SMT at 1 TRU and DOA volleyball at another TRU now.

Even at my closest TRU they show as 1 being in stock, but it is not actually anywhere to be found (also common!). Maybe someone stashed it for the red tag sale? :)

I wasn't too impressed by my local B&M store's inventory, but I went ahead and picked up Rocky, MK: Deadly Alliance (both GCN) and Rallisport Challenge for 30% off the $9.99 sticker price because they each had a $5 Price Grabber rebate. I thought about making the required photocopies and returning them, but I decided that $2 each new (after rebate) was cheap enough to justify the purchase. :D

A little birdie told me today that green tag hits 50% on either August 14th or 16th.

;)

EDIT: Though, I see that information is in the first paragraph now. Opps. :whistle2:D

Given the limited availability of most titles at my local B&M store currently, I doubt there will be much left by the time the 50% reduction takes place. Still, I'm willing to check the place out around then if you are. :D

Has anyone seen copies of Street Fighter Anniversary (PS2) at any TRUs in New Jersey? The few I went too didn't have any. BTW, TRU in Totowa on Rt 46 had 3 copies of SMT, at least I think they did, the empty cartons were on the rack to bring up to the counter.

What number is this and how does it work?

Yeah the 800 number (which is on their website www.tru.com) only really helps when they have 3-4+ stock. I went through the same thing, but got SMT, DOA and MR4 by shopping around (though it was a lot of work and driving :p)

I wish there were copies of Fire Emblem available. I'd love to get a copy of it, but I haven't seen it for 30% off, let alone my desperate hopes that it'll still be there for 50% off...

If anyone happens to know where to go to get it in Southeast Michigan, I'm all ears and I'd love a PM from you. :D

I saw it in both the East Brunswick (Rt 18 S) and Freehold (Rt 9 S) locations.

My TRU usually is stocked with rare titles like this, I really need to check it out and see if there's still a copy left, even though I already have one I paid $33.xx for during the B2G1 sale last year. It could make good trade fodder for some other game I want.

Thanks! I'll be in East Brunswick today anyway, so I'll have to swing by.

I wonder when Buy 2 get 1 Free Deal start again! I really wanted to pickup Makai kingdom, stella Deus, and Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana. Possible, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2, Radiata Stories, and Shining Force Neo or Fatal Frame 3. :)

I think last year it was September or October. Makai, Atelier, and DDS2 would be good for me.

I work at Toys R Us and I personally tagged all of the video games and video games accessories and there were some of the games on your list that were not on my list of green tags.

There was a whole top shelf full of Final Fantasy Tactics (greatest hits) for $14.99 at the TRU by me, add the 30% off and it's about $10. I can't tell if that's good or not.

Should I get it? I've played FFTA on the GBA already, but I also have a ps2 and a spare ps1 mem card, so I still play this if I get it.

If it is the greatest hits version it is VERY common.

Also, on a side note, I am much more familiar with the TRU stock system, they essentially do not show any game being in stock at a B&M store unless there are 4 copies left. So the best way to be sure if a game is in stock is to call the TRU directly and hope you get someone who cares enough to check well for the game :)

FYI, your wrong.

Everything is in invertory. And we can see everything we have. If it didn't, how exactly would the system know when, say, we got a fifth copy in stock?

fuck! should've waited a little longer for 50% off. don't they have something where they'll let you match the new price and get the difference back or am i just tripping?

Oh well, scored Astro Boy for $20. it's so kick ass. we need more 2-d action games like this(looking at YOU, Treasure)

Don't worry man. I don't think Treasure will ever stop. They are too good to stop.
(I just experienced Bangai-O for the first time last night, see. It rocked me)

Hey thanks for the list. Picked up Shin Megami Tensei:Nocturne for $35 and Onimusha 3 for $10. Onimusha was green tagged. but SMT was behind the shelf. It still rang up at 30% off though. Again, thanks for the list. Comp USA is another place to get great deals. Picked up Otogi for $5.

It's a great time to be a cheap ass gamer.

Right on...my only other Treasure game is Ikaruga. Time to get their whole back catalog! :D
Nocturne limited edition? What does it come with, and what does it look like?
I still haven't opened mine (huge backlog), but IIRC, the only outwardly noticable difference is a small-print indication on the back that it is the limited edition. I think it has a soundtrack.

How does the PS2 16MB Memory Expansion work, does it have the memory on it and when you insert your ps2 memory card into it, it just adds memory space, does it affect any of your exisiting files, can it be used with multiple memory cards?

Try and PM me your respond since this thread is large and I will most likely miss it.

Stay the hell away from that thing at all costs. It compresses your saves. If anything, buy a third party card that's larger than 8MBs.

I don't think you ever double check " Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne" if it come w/ sound track or not if your local TRU have only 1 copy left instock. :)

So are you guys still finding stuf? I'm waiting for the 50% sale, as most of these games aren't that good of a deal at 30% off (SMT not withstanding).
Are people still finding SMT:N in places??

And where do I find the phone number for my local TRU?
Yeah, it seems lots of people have been finding it at their TRU. I found one and a couple for other CAGs.

As far as the phone number goes, try the phone book or the internet (www.toysrus.com store locator or even www.dexonline.com).

Well, I called another TRU, and they also had SMT:N, but it was also $49.99. Could just be that it was marked $49.99, and she didn't bother scanning it? Cause I could tell she was actually looking at the box itself.

Also, with how rare SMT:N is, it would seem to me that if they had it at all, they would be having the sale, as the OP mentioned how they were getting games specifically for the sale.

He said they were getting "items" for the sale. More than likely "items" meaning "toys". As for SMT, it's not really hard to find per say, but it's getting more and more difficult to find a new copy.
