Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

Is there any current list of the green tagged items, preferably organized by date? The list on the front page seems incomplete and I have a feeling my TRU doesn't sticker everything and put them in the green tag bins.
There were absolutely no > $19.99 games I wanted to use the Buy2Get1 deal on since I've been spoiled getting all my new games at GR for $29.99 anyway - paying $33.33 in cash for each game seems like a ripoff :D.
Don't you have to trade in 2 games for the $29.99 deal at Gamerush? So isn't there a cost for those 2 games that raises the true cost of the new game?

Not really since you buy games that trade in for more or the same as what you bough them for. :D So you spend $30 + tax at the most.

I didn't understand that you got credit for the games you trade in, in addition to the lowered price of the pre-order.

That would be true if you didn't get the trade-in value as well. Say I take something like D2R2, which I got for about $7 using Buy2Get1 at TRU. If I pair that up with, say, Tron 2.0 (also from TRU) I get about $40 credit, and can make a preorder for $30, with $10 credit left over. That is an extreme example - usually I have to pay a *little* after my trade-in games to fill out the $29.99.

You're an amateur, io ;) I only had to pay out of pocket for my last two of five preorders, and that was because I got two to finish off my credit.

Hardly :D. By "pay" I meant use other GR trade credit (not from the 2 games I traded in).

USA Ghost - of course, there is D2R2 for Xbox which gets $27, (PS2 version gets $19), Tron 2.0 gets $13.50, and people claim Xeno II is getting $12, though when I took it into a regular Blockbuster they scanned it (so no mixup with Xeno I) and told me $6. Then there were several games people were using WAY back, though I haven't seen any for a while at TRU - Galleon, Druaga, and Medabots Infinity all got $19 at one point (think Galleon still does anyway).

Thankfully my TRU has lots of Xenosaga 2s and Tron 2.0s, so I can fill out my trade-in arsenal a bit. Picked up those and D2R2 for PS2 for $22 after tax, will trade for $44. Only $40 more credit till I will have a gift card just for my Mario Kart DS bundle!
Hardly :D. By "pay" I meant use other GR trade credit (not from the 2 games I traded in).

I wonder how much less you would receive at GS or EB for those.
Thx for the reply io. Whats Medabots Infinity price at tru? I dont think ive ever seen that game before there.
I haven't seen it since the 30% off, when it was $5, I thought. Luckily I was able to trade a couple of those in.
I'm pretty certain Xenosaga 2 doesn't qualify, since I think they sell that for $20 new (the general rule of thumb being if it sells used @ Rhino for $24.99, it qualifies). I was wondering about DTR2 myself tho...anyone have an answer on that one? I'll call this afternoon & find out if no one else knows.
Haven't seen an answer so far, so I called my local Rhino.

D2R2 for the Xbox gets a whopping $7. They sell it new for $20. I was hoping it would still be a decent amount, considering all of the other older games that they still give $10 or $14 for. Oh well.

I wish I had a Gamerush by me...Oh well. I have like 2 blockbusters, but IIRC, the trade-in-deals don't work with them.
at regular blockbusters, d2r2 xbox gets $24, d2r2 ps2 gets $19, xeno ii gets $6... maybe its different at gamerush.
Thanks, at least the PS2 version is the same. So I can do one trade of D2R2 PS2, Xeno, and Tron at GR, and then buy another pair of D2R2 and Tron to trade in at the regular BB by me.

I really don't feel like reading tons of pages of this thread so I have a questioin. Is the "GC Bundle Pack" on the list the Metroid Prime GC Console bundle? The consoles are GTed?
I haven't seen it since the 30% off, when it was $5, I thought. Luckily I was able to trade a couple of those in.
Medabots Infinity is $5 at 50% off - I found ONE a few weeks back at a TRU I had been to many times before - they must have found another in the back. I got it during the last Buy2Get1 so I only paid $3.33 for it.
75% off starts next week, right?
lol, you posted this just to show off your cool new sig, didn't you? "Oh yeah!"

it's not 75%, it's 70% (IIRC). I'm waiting for the drop so I can get River City Ransom GBA for $8.99.

FYI, as of Tuesday 10/25 I traded in these games at a Gamerush location:

DDR2 Xbox $27
Xenosaga 2 $12
Tron $13.50
Nightmare Druaga $19

 it's definitely a keeper.

seriously though, I want GGIsuka for cheap :) you're damn lucky that your TRU still has River City Ransom. that reminds me, I should get ahold of the NES version now that I own a nes again. even though I've beaten that game a million and one times :)

green tag glitch appears to have been fixed, as i cross posted in another topic, i tried doing a green tag glitch set at two different toys r us, and bother times rang up with a GT game free. Ive been doing this since the begining so i know how to do it, but it leads me to believe its over now.

I replied in the other thread as well, but you made the one big mistake.... D2R2 and Xeno2 are both $19.95GT.... Capcom Classics is $19.99. You need to watch those last numbers.

they were not 19.95 GT at my store becuase they range up exactly 9.99 each, I even looked at the computer screen to see them rung up. with the 50% difference that would have to make the original GT 19.98, not 19.95, anyway.

I never remember the GT being so specific as this either. In the past ive never had a single issue with this. and ive down it no less then 10-11 times or so.

Both are 19.95GT at my store and AFIAK, GT prices don't vary from store-to-store....

And yeah, this is one of the big specifics of the GT glitch. One cent can mean the difference between a full-price free game or a GT free game,

Green tag glitch still works. It's funny too on a TRU message board everyone is complaining about "cheapassgamer" scamming the system(its not a scam if the system allows it). Then you have the other half of the people saying they take advantage of the glitch too.
Whats this glitch again?
Ok. The glitch needs to be written out, and edited to first post.
Every five posts or so someone asking what the glitch is is getting tiresome.

Please OP, edit your post with the glitch.

Agreed. Remember to slam home the fact that ALL of the games need to be the SAME price for it to work. "SO CAN i GET liKE RE4 FREE IF I BYE REDFACSHUN ANDDEVIL MAY CRI 2?!" It's being asked all too often.

so no one knows about 70% off? i coulda sworn that i saw the date posted....a long time ago. OP needs to update the post, or we need a new thread, with all pertinent info in the front.

For the last time, there is no set date for anything past 50%. Anything you may have read was a guess.

Ok guys, the first post was updated. Now everyone should be clear about the glitch and further discounting(and you can say read the OP now anytime someone asks).

Actually, I have posted it several times... but I'm sure they're buried somewhere under a mountain of posts. :D

I think it might be time for a new thread, since we're at over 1600 posts. Plus, things are a bit cluttered, and we could use some updates to the OP for what's GT'd and what's not.

+1

I think it's been time for a few weeks now.

What $50 games across all systems are green tagged? in The TRU B1G2F thread, people seem to be getting spinter cell: chaos theory and Timesplitters: FP green tagged at $50 for GC.
