Where are the HD DVD movie deals?
Your deal is a $99 player with mail in offers for 7 to 11 free movies.
not if they didn't buy one, it isn't.

The HD DVD deal is Shrek 3 exclusive. Disney and Sony did BOGOs when Transformers came out too. They'll probably be one when Bourne comes out too.

The HD-DVD selection at Wal-Mart for $16 was pretty nice. I picked up 4 of them. Only intended to buy 2. Not sure if it's still going on though. I avoid Wal-Mart as much as possible.

Nope. The HD DVDs at Wal Mart are now 19.98. I was disappointed cause I was on my way there to pick up Casino thinking it was still 15.
HD-DVD's deal is 150 million for Paramount.
Yep. That money could have gone into promotions and thus selling many more HD DVDs, instead of one movie.
Yep. That money could have gone into promotions and thus selling many more HD DVDs, instead of one movie.
i don't think the two are related. we'll see HD DVD deals, but not necessarily when we all want them.

even if they were related, wouldn't you think the company who received $150 million would then be ok with selling their movie for cheaper?

I agree with the OP, lets see more deals on HD DVD software. Step 1 = get rid of combo discs.

Some of them are still ringing up at the $14.XX price at least last Saturday they were. Clerks II was still ringing up at that price.

First of all, the payout has already been proven as BS. Also, if you notice, these b1g1 sales come out the week of big HD-DVD exclusive titiles (last one was the week of Transformers, now Shrek 3, plus Im sure there will be one for Bourne in early Dec.). But then again, the A2 dropped under $100 the weekend before Cars and Ratatouie came out on BR. BR and HD-DVD are just both trying to steal the other's thunder.

The payoff isn't bs. It was incorrectly stated as having Microsoft behind it. Instead Toshiba and the HD DVD PR Group funded it.

I don't know that this was actually confirmed by anyone... It was basically just speculation and rumor based on industry "insiders."

That being said, who cares one way or the other? You don't think Disney and Fox are getting money from Sony? This is unfortunately the way the game is played.
I hope there is a decent deal for Bladerunner .
personally, i felt that for all the content you're getting (multiple versions of the movie, lots of supplements), the asking price was more than fair... especially after the WB 25% off coupon.

I'll have to hit up Wal mart again and check to see if they ring up for 15. If so im gonna buy a few. But I mean i love HD DVD dont get me wrong BUT I go by PQ ont he AVS forum. So if the PQ sucks then i just usually buy the SD version and have it upconvert

Also Tell me this, WHY does microsoft Support Blu Ray movies? I.E, The Condemed and Live Free or Die Hard. I know they have a HD DVD add on BUT jeez MS, figure out WHAT Movies are on HD DVD before u go blindly supportting something thats apparently Blu Ray only.

Can someone send me a link to confirm the $150 million payout? Like a copy of the check or something? Oh, you're all still assuming because two "secret" Paramount janitors spilled the beans to one guy...right?

Sony/Disney is conditioning people to wait for these sales. Its gotta be pretty funny looking at the "profit" or "loss" these two studios take just to shove sub-par movies on a HD disc down peoples throats. For $10, who can go wrong with Wild Things?!?!

I would like to see that as well .
Wouldn't that large of an amount be in the quarterly budget breakdown for a huge company ?
I'm sure it'd be pretty hard to hide from the stockholders if they just threw it in the petty cash fund .
I only do B&M .
well, that can be a deal-killer on its own. only buying from B&M effectively negates TONS of software/movie/media deals. and even without a sale price, like i mentioned before, $30 (or less) is a pretty darn good price for a 5-disc, dressed-to-the-nines special edition of a great movie.

This will be the 3rd copy I buy .
I have to get it , I like the Magnum PI-esque narrated original version .
I know it's not the most popular but I won't have to rely on my 10th anniversary VHS anymore .

agreed!

this is only my 2nd BR purchase, but my wife and i are big fans. finally, this movie is getting the release it deserves.

I have no dobts that Paramount is recieving considerations from the dvd forum, but it would be in the form of advertising and royalty sharing, not a lump sum cash payment. And Paramount did this after thier own consiterations expired from the BDA. And we're all sure that Disney and Fox arn't recieve 'incentives from the BDA. Disney co-developed HDI, the interactivity used in HD-DVD, with MS. They are recieving a share of the money from every HD-DVD with HDI. Im sure that money from the BDA had nothing to do with them going BD exclusive  (for the time being).
Why do you only do B&M?
I believe if I pay for something , I should receive it in my posession immediately .

No Ebay for me either .

Yea, what dallow said.

It's all speculation.
Its been posted many times, but the New York Times confirmed the payout.
where? I'm doing a google news search for paramount, paramount hd dvd, paramount 150 million searching the NYTimes newspaper and nothing about that

the only thing i'm getting is one "open letter" and a blog post referencing the 150 million

edit: i found it

yeah, you believe that you work for one day and you should be paid for the day immediately too...

dude, on-line shopping is not only cheaper, but also no headaches! Waiting for cashier anybody?

Yeah... speaking of payouts... you don't think Best Buy isn't getting kick-backs from Sony... their whole store boasts Blu-Ray as the way to go... even if they thought that were true, that would be adumb buisness decision to favor one over the other. You want consumers to support either... not shove Blu-Ray down their throats unless you had incentive to do so.

Sony buys more shelf space than Toshiba and HDDVD. That is why that you see more Sony/Bluray stuff.

Well their is the WB store 25% coupon and also the DDD.com 20% coupon which has some really good deals!

Oh. Better to go to B&M and pay much more money just so you get it instantly. Good luck finding the Oceans set for 45 bucks, or the Bladerunner set for 22. I'd rather save 20 bucks and wait a week or 2 for shipping than spend that 20 bucks at B&M stores. Besides with the amount of money I say I can buy another extra hd-dvd.

Patience is a virtue.
