The amount of delisting going on lately is nuts. It's the same way on Xbox; several XBLA games have been getting delisted over the last few weeks.

I just don't understand why more companies don't announce it ahead of time when a game is going to be delisted.

Especially in cases where the de-listing is because of losing a license, they'd probably get a huge bump in sales right before the game is pulled. I can think of several WP and XBLA games I would have made a point of buying if I just knew they were going to be delisted.

In the case of Ghostscape's partial delisting, as usual Microsoft didn't even inform the devs that the game wasn't working with WP8.

And a lot of actual delistings on XBLA happen because the dev has gone out of business. But when the publisher is just fine (Konami with MLB Bobblehead Pros), it's definitely a wasted opportunity not to warn everyone about the game going away in advance. SEGA was cool enough to do that with Outrun, at least!

It's unfortunately. "Common sense" is easily lost in the bureaucracy of large corporations.

I imagine they probably assign a person/team to push for renewing the license, or resolving whatever the issue is. And then assume that person/team is also coordinating with marketing in preparation their efforts fail.

... or these companies simply don't care. Either way, we lose.
If there's no more (or not many more) Windows Live games coming with achievements I'll seriously consider not getting another Windows phone when I upgrade, which is already overdue.
I gotta say I feel the same way. Plus, can't I just use my current HTC Arrive to still play the games and get achievements via Wifi, even if I don't get service to the phone anymore? Or am I misunderstanding how that works?

Yup, you can.
Cool. Good to know. Thank you.
Yeah for awhile I was gaming on a focus over wifi in airplane mode, while th iPhone 4 was my phone.

I've decided to just game on iOS now. When MS promises Temple Run months ago and then delivers nothing, while iOS gets the sequel tonight, the choice is easy.

When exactly did Microsoft promise that? I missed it.

At the Windows Phone 8 reveal they showed it off, promoting the unity engine.

And I hate to come off as being sour, but MS has dropped the ball so hard, I just can't help it. They could have grabbed the mobile space by the balls, not the other way around.

That's why I should've been at that event. The person who attended reported on none of the gaming announcements, so I was surprised later on at Casual Connect to learn about Fairway Solitaire coming to WP8. Well, I'll investigate Temple Run with the dev, since I know him from way back when Harbor Master came out.

Update: He told me that development is progressing smoothly, but right now they're focused on Temple Run 2 for iOS. Sounds like it will be out in the first half of this year.

Yeah I was surprised no one reported on that, especially you guys! They even made it a point to single it out.

Ok so this is a bit off topic and I know it really isn't much to go on, but my wife is having a lot of problems with her Lumia 920 freezing up. It happens a couple times a day and she has to hold the volume and power buttons to reset it. Doesn't seem to be any common action that causes it either. She is getting frustrated to the point of wanting to have them reactivate her old iPhone. I haven't had the issue on my 920, and only once have I had to use the reset. Anyone else experiencing this or know of the cause or a fix? Thanks.

I had the exact same problem with my 920. The only solution is to get it replaced. I had the issue, but my fiancee didn't. It seems to be hardware-related from everything I have read about it, so a future software update won't fix the issue.

I agree it was very frustrating... the second 920 I got did the exact same thing. Now here, on my third one, it hasn't had any issues and I've had it about two weeks or so. So yeah... definitely get that replaced, because it will likely never stop doing it.

Has the phone been updated? If so, I think the only thing to try is a complete system restore and see if it corrects the problem. If not, I'd take it to AT&T or contact Nokia. I've heard of it happening from quite a lot of people so I'm sure they're aware of the issue.

Outside of the standard app updates I don't think there has been a firmware update for the 920. She has all of the app updates they have pushed out, and I wouldn't know how to go about rolling those back. The odd thing is we both got our phones at launch back in November, and it has just been the past week or so she has had problems. So it very well could be software related. Maybe I will have her uninstall the recent stuff she downloaded and see if it has any effect?

There has indeed been a firmware update for the 920, but it didn't solve my problem and I doubt it has an affect on yours either. I would just try to exchange it.

Interesting. Must have missed it since we don't have to connect to Zune anymore. I'll admit I mostly just hit the update all button without checking what it is that I'm actually updating. I guess we will take it in to the ATT store and see if there is anything they can do. It worries me a bit that we have had the phone for 2 months already. They could attribute it to user abuse.

Feeni, try going into Settings from the phone and finding the option for a system update. That's the only way you'll see it. If updating doesn't work, the AT & T Store is the best bet.

I see. So I guess checking the box next to the "tell me when updates are available for my phone" does nothing. Good to know. We'll see if the update fixes anything. Thanks all.

Oh, I'm pumped for those games too. I was being sarcastic because that video is actually pretty old, but everyone's treating it like some new, big deal.

Batman, Spiderman and Uno are first day purchases for me if they come out. I'd probably get a few of the others too. Shark Dash isn't bad but I have it on my Windiws 8 laptop...and linda sick of all these physics games.

Commented. Good article.

For the longest time they were doing a good job of at least getting one title out per week. Sure, the updates to the titles were virtually non-existent and they weren't exactly the games that everyone was dying to play, but at least they got us a new game every week. What the hell happened to that?

That was a really good article, Paul.

Microsoft's support of the WP is quickly becoming a fiasco, and it's a shame because I think if they just showed some real initiative, it could be a real contender against the iPhone.

Who here is familiar with TVShow? I just asked about this on the article about the latest update, but the article is a few days old so I don't know if anyone will see:

I've heard that this can only hold so many shows. Is this true? If so, how many? And do they take up much space on the phone? For instance, would there be a significant difference between tracking 10 shows and tracking 100 shows?

I'm trying to decide between this and Prime TV, so I would like some input before I spend any money. And I only have about 50 MB to work with, so disk space and memory usage are a bit of a concern.

I'm so jealous of people with SD slots.

We saw many publishers push hard to deliver new or updated titles for Windows Phone 8 launch and holiday sales, which creates a bit of lull in the weeks to follow. Others are updating titles for Windows Phone 8 as we speak.

Anyways, good stuff Paul. Nice to see MS at least respond.
