OT question:

Anyone know of a free IP camera viewing app that actually works? I want to log into my son's daycare cam and am not having any luck on my Lumia.

There's an update today even though it was working without one. I know I probably shouldn't, but I'm downloading it anyways.

EDIT: Looks ok so far. Already used my energy before downloading, so I wasn't able to test anything. Map works

Forgive if this is a repost, but today I saw that 8 Disney games are free in the Windows 8 marketplace on my surface:

Monsters University

Disney Solitaire

Wreck it Ralph

Toy Story Smash It

Where's My Perry

Where's My Water

Where's Mickey XL

Where's my Water f XYY

Says 6 days off.  Glad I forgot to buy stuff in that sale I posted a month or so ago.

Phone just got out of limbo. Battery was low (not super low warning yet), so I put it on a charger. 15 minutes later it asks me to update (I've been dismissing it the past couple days). While still on the charger, I started the update. I guess the update used up so much battery that it died and showed the low battery symbol that shows power is too low to turn on. It turns back on and starts update right away. It turns off again :/

After not turning on for about an hour, it finally turned on with about 30% battery and finished the update.

Fingers crossed for FFIII for $5 or less red stripe. I think this is the only game I don't own that I really want. Already have it on DS, but achievements. Achievements

Thank goodness, man. That was a really bad idea, updating with a low charge. It sucks but most WIndows Phones seem to use power faster than they can pull it from a charger.

If you don't mind a little feedback, the visuals need some work. The gray background is ugly and the text and UI elements don't look so great either. If you can polish it up a bit, I could give it a short review on our site.

Thanks for the feedback. I just submitted an update.

The background is now wood since solid color doesn't seem to be pretty or it eventually clashes with a puzzle color scheme. Also the side puzzle selection can collapse when working on the puzzle. Just some more free space.

In other news Royal Envoy 2 has been apparently delisted. I knew I should've bought it last month. :wall:

Zombies!!! and The Harvest were also delisted last week on Win 8.

There were at least 3 other recent delistings on XBLA as well as several GoD versions of retail releases getting pulled..

At the rate MS has been delisting Win8, WP, and XBLA games in the past year, you may just want to buy anything you've been considering for months waiting on a sale that will likely never happen. Things are much more likely to be delisted now than to go on sale.

It feels like there's not even going to be a Win8 and WP marketplace a year from now.

These are all the Xbox WP and Windows 8 games I could find that have been delisted in the last month or so:

  • Carcasonne (Windows Phone)
  • Catan
  • Crash Course Go
  • Disney The Little Mermaid: Undersea Treasures!
  • The Gunstringer: Dead Man Running
  • The Harvest (Windows Phone and Windows 8)
  • Royal Envoy 2
  • Team Crossword
  • Zombies!!!
Am I missing any games?

@eastx what's the most effective way to harrass Microsoft for a refund due to delisting. I want my Zombies!!! back but not for yet another $5.

You can download it again if you've purchased it. Go to account in the app store and click on apps. It should be listed. Then select to install it.

Carcassonne (WP) and the Harvest (WP) are not delisted.

There are several other delistings.

Almost all of the DLC for Hasbro Family Game Night has been delisted.

All the DLC for You Don't know Jack got delisted recently.

Very true.

For the Kingdom War do we just have to play ranked matches?

I'm still looking for Angry Birds Epic players. Add me here if you play
No, you have to be in a clan that has paid to enter the war and join the Kingdom War option during the one hour a day that its available. Did you ever join our clan?

Yeah I'm in there. The message I received said the war was going to start at 11:00 PST. Nothing was on the main screen about it until about 20:00 PST. I'll keep checking on it throughout the night. I'm just clicking on stuff and battling random people.

Isn't that weird that they advertise the wrong time? It's 10-11 pm cst tonight and tomorrow. Just ended for the night.

What's your username in the game?

Sweet, I have WP8. I didn't want to just buy something and have it not use my balance. Plus I'm selling my 360, so I needed to know if I had to spend it there and get one more game played before I shipped it off.

I really dig WP8, but damn the sluggish trickle of games is a major bummer.  I felt like the beginning of the end was when the new Rovio Angry Bird games weren't Xbox games w/ achievements.

Kinda cool that the new Witcher mobile game is coming, though.

This has 1GB RAM requirement written all over it. I was thinking seriously about upgrading my phone the last couple of months. With the recent delistings however, I have reconsidered doing that. I am hesitant to invest more in this platform until Microsoft convinces me that it will be viable for the next few years.
The platform is doing better than ever. More and more developers and bigger and bigger games continue to come over to WP. But Xbox WP is dead, so if your primary motivator is Achievements then it would not be good to stick with WP.

That said, I would recommend getting a 2GB phone like the Lumia 930 if you want to play it future proof. Games aren't requiring that yet, but if they ever phase out 512 MB phones then 2 GB games will start to appear.

So eastx, you don't think there are ANYmore Xbox-enabled WP8 games coming?

Ugh, that's disappointing. Achievements/Xbox Live were my main motivators for going with Windows Phone and sticking with it for the past three years.

I think Microsoft will probably publish two or three more Xbox WP games this year, completely out of the blue and with no fanfare. Assassin's Creed Pirates might be coming to WP, and it might be Xbox-enabled as well. Otherwise, third-party support is completely dried up.

I'm with you guys on Xbox Live games being the motivator for me to get into WP. Hell, that started a chain of events that has made me a journalist and changed my life. BUT I think it's very unhealthy when people don't want to play games that don't have a specific kind of Achievement. Gamers should play games because they are games, not because they feed a particular addiction. Sometime I'm going to write an editorial on the subject, but it's hard to get right because it's like telling a group of people you don't know that they have to lay off the alcohol or something.

I have no shortage of good games. Actually, I have enough now to last me probably 2 life-times.

I do like achievements though. Not in a competitive sense, but it does give me an extra sense of accomplishment. I know I am in the minority, but I really have very little time to play games. So when I get 100% of the achievements in a game, in my mind, I have completed that game and I can move on to something else.

Besides the gaming, I really do like my Windows phone. I really do. I cannot stand it when my wife asks me to do something on her iPhone. I love how easily I can do things on my WP. The game selection however is a completely other matter. The quality and variety of WP games leave a lot to be desired when you compare it to the other two platforms.  If Microsoft decides to pull the plug on Xbox live enabled games, I can see myself continuing to use my WP, but strictly as a non-gaming device.

Kind of sad to hear that Xbox on WP is dead, but not surprising considering how poor the game selection has been and how badly implemented it was (broken games/glitched achievements/constant delistings).  But it seems inevitable now that XB on WP goes the way that GFWL went and the way that the Xbox enabled Win8 games appear to be going.

I know the theory is that it is bad for business to be up front when exiting a market, but I think if Microsoft would communicate with their customers when they abandon one of their gaming initiatives it would go over better with everyone.  Much better than their current practice of leaving people hanging for weeks/months/years on end wondering when the servers are getting shut off for GFWL or when the next WP/Win8 delisting will be.

As for achievements I have stopped score whoring over the past year and don't miss it at all.  Still like to play games and get achievements but it isn't my focus any longer.  It is refreshing to be able to pick up games on other platforms without thinking about gamerscore.  There were a couple reasons I quit, one being my growing family and another being due to an acquaintance on XBL whose marriage deteriorated due to constant score whoring (among other things).  If you are addicted to it I definitely recommend taking a step back every so often and see how it is affecting your life and it if is really what makes you happy.

A lot of the freebie titles are good (all of them?). The only "problem" with them I've had is that the achievements take forever to get. I haven't played a few that aren't available in U.S. yet, so those ones might be bad.

Aaaaaaand Rocket Riot (Win8 & WP) bite the dust. The delistings are getting ridiculous. Boulderdash XL was also delisted on the XBLA side....but really who cares about that one?

So you've been playing Bingo, Soduko, Minesweeper, Mahjong and Solitaire for fun? They're not horrible, they're just not good. I played them for the achievements and will never touch them again.

I haven't been playing Bingo or Mahjong (I don't like those games on any playform), but I have been playing Minesweeper and Solitaire for fun (I've been playing them long before W8 versions). I gave up on the achievements a long time ago. I'm looking forward to Sudoku, but have been busy with Xbox One games.
