Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I guess we're going through the motions of date night now with the magic lost. It's actually a great thing: good deals all around, spanning different formats and genres, coupled in with some new, never discounted before offers. Last week, I got that last Borderlands DLC which hadn't been discounted before and not on the GotY edition along with the Dead or Alive costumes. Now, I am conflicted if I should even bother with the new discount offerings but the looming shadow of my backlog makes me wonder if I should even bother with titles not necessarily on my radar despite the quality aspects of the games. Valiant Hearts interests me with its World War I setting (hopefully doing better than Toy Soldiers, which despite the backdrop fails to my personal preferences in a game) and Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures which has colorful Sonic-like charms. It's just that both games aren't really registering on my hype scale, yet I know there's also the possibility some discounts never show up again (like the Mass Effect ones) or years to show up again like the Monkey Island discounts this week, coupled with my massive backlog and the overbearing feeling the 360 may become abandoned for great discounts relatively soon, my indecision whether or not to spend my money is valid.

Understandably, we've been distracted from discounts a bit with all sorts of video game news and recent releases. Destiny has captured quite a lot on my friends list and discussion on this thread too. Microsoft taking control of Minecraft is something to note for the future. Even more interesting to me, some fun PC titles are making their way to Xbox One like Goat Simulator, Chivalry, and APB meaning there may be a chance for more on the platform to enjoy my beloved Shovel Knight, Freedom Planet, and Valdis Story if those get ported too. Consequently, let's not forget the new teasers/trailers revealing the new DLC to Watch_Dogs and Claire Redfield returning as a playable protagonist in the episodic Resident Evil Revelations 2 (at least the CAG on this thread with a Claire avatar image may appreciate).

Well, I hope everyone is enjoying their free GwG Halo Reach (sorry, gotta link them, their enthusiasm is so great). I'm pretty sure I spent my 10 hours playing Monaco: What's Yours is Mine, but I am not sure if the same Xbox Rewards offer applies to Reach. The rewards website explicitly says to play the games "14 days of the Games with Gold announcement" which of course was announced just before the month started, and Reach was made available for free on the 360 past that 14 days. I feel like I already played enough of Reach, so I can pass up on the 1000 reward points, but I would like to hear from you next month if you did get the extra rewards points for Reach, even better information if you bought the DLC now too. It will serve us well for the next few months for Games with Gold to know.

i think shenmue HD and shenmue 2 HD will be part of next weeks sale.
I reject this alternate universe with bad games for a bad sale. Besides, Sleeping Dogs has been on sale many times, and the definitive edition is due out soon.

Upcoming date night, I am guessing some form of Forza deals:
ten-Lamborghini-cars.jpg
Primarily because Forza Horizon 2 is coming and I'd love to get more cars for my favorite decals for the previous games and I'd be encouraged if those could transfer over to the new game when I do purchase it. I really want the Porsche and rally racing packs. I am hopeful, but it always seems like the deals never want to take advantage of the situation and avoid sales cannibalization, so it will more likely be something we've seen before like a Bethesda sale on Fallout DLC (which I would not want).

Okay MS, summer is about to end and I'm still looking for love. I'm already practicing pickup lines for the next date night. I know I'm still old fashioned without the newest system, but I still wish my faith in you is rewarded. Don't disappoint me. I need dat sales.

EDIT: Stupid customspoiler tag won't work ... removing random replies ... also YAY D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die! (sorry fixed link for D4, link messed up because it was uploaded minutes earlier ^^)

[EDIT 2: I am so hyped ... learning of so many good games appealing to me coming ... and fixed links]

Kickbeat has an achievement (not challenge) that you can only get within the first month of the game's release. People are pretty mad about that. I'll be avoiding the game if it ever goes on sale. Zen Studios said that the achievement is an "incentive" to buy the game early, not a challenge accidently labeled as an achievement.

D4 tomorrow is a nice surprise. Might finish up some of my WP8 backlog before buying though. Grinding endgame gear in Terraria is going to take forever.

Tried the Eternal Sonata demo. It gave me the feeling that I get anytime I try to play Metroid: Nice enviroments but I don't know where I'm going or what I'm doing. I also can't figure out how music performances work.  I like the timed based free roaming battle system; I haven't seen something like that since Parasite Eve.   I think I will wait and try this on disc so if I end up not liking it, I can return it.

Yikes! That Youtube video that was posted reviewing Pac-Man made it sound like that game is evil for being kid friendly.  As someone that has never played Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy, it makes me want to play Ghostly Adventures even more.  I wouldn't be surprised if they hated every NES game.

Before I start Reach, I'm going to play Metro 2033 first. If I like it enough to keep it, I'll just buy Last Light and delete the PS3 version. I don't like to have a game series mixed among different consoles.

I told a buddy that D4 was coming out tomorrow and he thought it was a sequel to this.

Maybe it is

There was another unrelated (to both that D3 and the upcoming D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die) Dreamcast game called D2. Sequel to D on the Playstation.

At least we're not using some stupid acronym for games like "SC" (Soul Calibur? StarCraft? Star Control? Splinter Cell? etc.)

That guy reviewing Pacman hates every game I have yet to see a review from him that he does not bash so hard. I really like Classic Game Room Reviews (The ones with Lord Karnage) but not the ones from CGRUndertow. Also he complains about PacMan having legs when some of the best PacMan games(Pacman World) have him with legs.

I guess they mean you basicly have to play for 10 hours while the game is free (and download the game during that period as well). I'll report when i receive the 1000 credits (easy to watch campaign stats for number of hours played).

Finally a new point and click adventure that isn't made by Telltale. They're good but I don't want them to get comfortable and just control the market on these games. Competition and variety is good!

Was that a pez dispenser? Please tell me that was a pez dispenser.

Also, I played through Bioshock on easy because I just wanted to know the story. Saved myself a lot of time and undue stress.
Why bother doing that? Just use the Vita Chambers and don't feel bad about it. It's mostly just the Big Daddies that are hard in that game and using Vita Chambers makes dealing with them easy enough.

Is anyone else having this really really weird issue with Valiant hearts on the 360?

When I start the game it loads up to the title screen, then it asks me to select my profile (which I already am logged into). So I have to select my profile again, it logs me out, then logs me back in. Then I get a message saying that I am not logged into a profile and that if I proceed I would not be able to save my game. The game then freezes and doesn't let me make the choice. I have to dashboard.

I've re-installed the game 3 times and it happens every time. This is the only game I have issues with out of the hundreds I have.

Off topic: Can anyone tell me how important it is to play Bioshock 1 to understand Infinite? I understand Infinite is a prequel (I think) but does the story tie in a lot with the first two.

I have tried so hard to play through Bioshock 1, I made it to
the Andrew Ryan beatdown
but I cannot just do it anymore. The controllers feel so sluggish and it's becoming impossible to be able to switch between Plasmids and weapons fast enough to kill anything.
I only played Infinite and never entirely felt lost. It just seemed like a far superior experience that I couldn't force myself to play through the others.

There was at least one MLB 2K game on Xbox 360 (maybe two) which required you to play the All-Star game on the same day as the real one. If you were on vacation or got the game after early July, you were fucked on that one.

I just started playing Deadly Premonition after the deep discount it had on PS3 a few weeks back. This game is super on my radar after that, but I dunno. Is that Kinect integration forced? Looks like it could be lame. Though it is delightfully wacky like DP (*giggles*).

I don't know if it's a newer generation or some gamers nowadays that have difficulty playing certain games like Bioshock 1 because it's too slow/controls cumbersome(switching between guns and plasmids), but I wonder if this is the Call of Duty effect? Fast paced and not relying on your skill/available weapons perhaps? I've seen(or read I should say lol) my fair share of journalists who are previewing The Master Chief Collection for the X1 and are having difficulty going back to having no sprint stick, no leveling up, etc. What say you guys?

Skonson - as far as "suggesting" Masters continues to plough through the game when he's more than halfway done, I think it's safe to say he's just not into it........I've learned some people just don't have as much fun as others with certain games no matter how "great" we deem they are. I love pretty much every single genre of games and enjoy all the critical hits by gamers and the press as I've been gaming for over 28 years, but for example, I just CANNOT get into Zelda Ocarina of Time. I've tried three separate times the past 15+ years and it's just not fun. To this day, I just prefer all the top down Zelda games vs. the 3D ones *shrugs*

Best we can do is make our suggestions and hopefully people like them. Anyways, sorry for the small rant and not meaning to say you're forcing something on him or others. Not meant to come out that way :) Just that we all have different tastes. And mine unfortunately, will never like OoT

I'm not sure either, but it's a shame because BioShock has one of the best stories in a shooter, ever. I feel the same way when people say they can't play Mass Effect 1.

Flockers is out for X1 now. Its $18.74 and 5 gb.

D4 is out now too for $15 and its 8 gb. You have to search for D4

Flockers says like $25 with a Gold price of $18, what's up with that? And why the heck is that much?

Anyone tried D4 yet? How is it? You don't need the Kinect do you?

Still can't make my mind up about Valiant Hearts

Not sure if it's b/c I bought the VIP Pass, but there was a free 8 car pack "Launch Bonus" for Horizon 2 (or titled something similar) in the Add Ons part of the XBOX One Game Store (CONSOLE).  Not the Day One DLC (which is Unavailable & 3 Cars).

I'm having trouble playing that too, which is a shame considering I loved Mass Effect 2 and 3, but I will forsure force myself through this. It's not a problem with the gameplay (although I do wish I could take cover) but it's the motion blur. It makes me nauseous, regardless of me turning it off or leaving it on, so I can't play that game for more than an hour at a time.

Mass Effect does that, but your moving image in your sig doesn't bother you?

when installing my disk copy of ghosts the image said gold edition. which got me excited after the 3gb update finished it switched to a different picture and no longer said gold edition and I dont have the dlc included in that edition. I feel cheated

I speculated 400 vs 1000 achievement points
Plus ability to record/stream without buying anything extra and probably faster loading.

I'm getting D4 tomorrow. The videos have sold me.

If you can find one of the 360/XBO download packs at Target still for $20.98, that gives you the Gold Edition and also lets you buy the digital hardened edition for $40.

I believe that's free for everyone and saw something about it on Joystiq yesterday. Not at the console to see though.
