Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

It's way better than last year which I couldn't stand for the few games I played in between flipping copies. I haven't really played Madden since the N64 I think (though would pick up the college game every couple of years) so maybe I'm not the best judge, I don't know. But losing this MUT game on a 78 yard pass as time expires where the ball goes through the bodies of three defenders on it's way to the receiver is probably the tipping point where I take it and get back what I paid for it while I still can. Then there's the occasional major rule inconsistency (that always seems to happen enough you can find other people asking what the fuck) like kicking a field goal in OT that should win the game as time expires but instead it starts a new OT period and the computer promptly scores a TD.

Maybe if it wasn't keeping me from playing other things I need to get to or that $40 TIV wasn't running out I would keep it and suffer through that because it is a lot better than last year. Well other than the commentary. Can't count how many times it's just completely wrong to what's actually just happened and even calls the teams by the wrong names like once a game.

Yeah, that's the only thing that's kept me playing but I've hit this point where it feels like there's really no advancing without either getting drastically better at the game or paying to win.
Nothing is wrong with your game. I have played since early access and have seen zero glitches. The only problem I have had has been desync errors online, but those occurred in multiple attempts to play the same person.

While I cannot comment on the 78 yard pass unless you share the clip which the game automatically saves every time a touchdown is scored, there is nothing odd about your MUT game result whatsoever.

I would be willing to bet that, when you kicked that field goal at the end of OT, you had started OT-1 with possession and took the whole overtime period to score. That's not hard when MUT quarters are short. So although you scored on the field goal, the other team is entitled to a possession. I realize that regular season NFL games only allow for 1 overtime, but this is not regular season.

Stuff like that 78 yd pass play happens in real life games. Doesn't happen often and doesn't happen often in Madden either. I'm pretty sure online games use playoff rules for OT. The CPU doesn't know that though so they usually kick fgs when time is almost up. Easy wins. Play all your CPU matches with chew clock on and they are a joke.

Just for the record: I received 1000 rewards credits for playing 10 hours of Halo reach. Downloaded the game on the 16th, play 10 hours and got the credits on the 18th, although it hasn't been displayed at the website until the 20th. So that's how GwG rewards program works after all their cryptic and misleading faq and tocs: download and play the GwG for 10 hours while it's free and receive your credits.

I have a crappy old broken-ish 360 that I was able to download Halo Reach onto. Once I've downloaded it is it tied free to my account forever? I'm planning on buying a HDD to hack into my newer 4GB model. So in say, 2 months will I be able to go to Halo Reach on the store and download it free on the new console? All on the same XBL Gold account.

You don't have to download it as long as you "purchase" it for free. As long as you continue to use your xbl account that made the purchase, you can redownload

Yes. At worst you'll have to transfer your account license if you get a different 360 and want to play offline.

Just finished D4. Took about 5-6 hours to complete, while checking everywhere for collectables, not skipping anything, and doing as many extra cases as I could find. I might not have gotten them all, so maybe there is some stuff I missed. Achievements have issues, so I don't know how many I have. I think it has something to do with switching apps while playing the game.

Feels like season 1 ended a little bit too soon.

looking for minecraft xb1 players gamertag is "grantyolegrant"
There is currently a glitch where if the host goes too far from a chest, everything in the chest disappears (or something like that). I'd wait for a patch unless you plan on playing creative or won't be going far from your chests. Happened us once and we haven't played since, waiting for patch.

I think the D4 achievement problem has something to do with switching to another app or jumping right into the game when turning on your X1. I recommend force quitting it before you get offline or before u start playing.

I could argue but I actually agree in this case. Had I known that Xbox One won't even start playing games without an Internet connection, I would have saved my $400, but at this point, I think I'll just pull the trigger on broadband. I missed out on most of the great downloadable titles of the 360 gen so now I can enjoy both so Internet at home might be a good thing.
Sorry to ask this but how did you not realize that the Xbox One needed an internet connection before it would function? It felt like the internet was arguing about that very issue for months. Though I think it just needs a connection to authorize it's first use and from there you can use it without the need for internet as long as you're happy to just use disc based games. I could be wrong but I think that was the whole issue as a lot of military personnel were worried that they would serious issues with the new console.

I hadn't even considered that I might want an Xbox One until the free game deal came up two weeks ago. Before that, I bought Dead Rising 3 for $10 during the TigerDirect deal to hold onto, so with the other free game they offered, I went ahead and pulled the trigger, and I read that Microsoft had reversed its position on several of its original DRM policies, so I assumed that was one of the ones it had gone back on. Not to mention that having owned a 360, which has updates on disc for many of its games, I wouldn't have thought they would have gimped the system completely without an Internet connection. So, again, I didn't do my research in advance of buying the console. My bad, but I guess I am in the wrong thread to question Microsoft's logic. But like the other guy said, there will probably be lots of people out there who don't have home Internet who will make the same mistake I did because I guarantee that parents aren't reading gaming websites before making holiday purchases.

None of the achievements have been glitched for me. I'm currently at like 500ish/1000 in the game & on my second playthrough. I checked leaderboards last night and I was in like the top 40 for time played, lol.

With that said, I'm glad I picked up a X1 this month. This game is by far my favorite X1 exclusive thus far [and ive played them all thus far]. I wouldn't say it ended to soon, there's more replayability and side missions that you most likely won't do in the first playthrough (some things are hidden pretty cleverly).

The game is definitely on my radar, but with my backlog, I'm better off waiting for a sale or until the next season comes out (or both). I haven't even played Deadly Premonition yet (just picked it up in the PSN sale).

Thanks for the answer, guys. I'm probably the last holdout in America who doesn't have home Internet but between my smartphone, my computer at work and wifi hotspots, I have all the access I need at the moment. I would like to finally delve into the world of Xbox Live like the rest of you though.
I bought one of the base consoles with the free game about a week ago and it still requires the day one patch. I guess in my mind it made no sense to release a console that requires Internet to function at all when every other console on the planet at least plays games right out of the box. It just doesn't make sense to me. I'm not trying to turn this into a bashfest because I love my 360 but having a $400 unplayable console sitting here mocking me is kind of pissing me off.

After I got laid off during the recession a few years back, I downsized and got rid of all extraneous bills so I don't have cable or Internet, but I have two jobs now so I can afford it. It's just having gone through that experience, I figured out that I can live without having Internet access. And, I know that games are extraneous purchases, but I can play them with something I have to pay for - electricity.

That said, I would like to get the most out of my Xbox One purchase. And I would like to play Cuphead which I have seen previews of.
Can't u just go to a friends/relative's house for the initial update? After that discs install an update themselves, so u can play disc games

No family within 200 miles, no good friends to speak of. The acquaintances I have aren't people that I want knowing that I have a $400 appliance at home. I could ask a coworker, but I don't really trust any of them enough to ask, but that would be another way to go. I considered Craigslisting the system yesterday. When I went to GameStop yesterday, they offered a trade-in value of $215 for the system. I thought that was absurd. But I really don't want to sell it. Maybe I could bribe a coworker to take it home and update it, but I'm afraid it'll get dropped or stolen.

have you contacted MS? There was discussion last year the possibility of sending vis mail the day one update to those without connection. Not something I worry about so I could have misinterpreted.
Crappy it didn't work out of the box, but with next gen consoles and frequent updates a connection is necessary for consoles and games. I'm sure you already thought about packing it up to a buddies house for the update too.
Edit - just saw your post above. Could mail it to a friend? Ridiculous I know. The cost is probably 20 each way, or more. If you lived nearby I would help a brother out. Maybe a CL-CAG post for your area? A quick 10 bucks for borrowed connection.

You can also download the update onto a USB drive as well and apply it yourself I am pretty sure, might be easier to use/borrow a usb drive and do that at someones house if you dont want to bring a system somewhere.

All good ideas, guys. Unfortunately, according to my research, M$ pulled the update from the Windows website for some reason, but I might give M$ a call to see if a disc can be mailed out.

You could bring it to Starbucks (free WiFi), but you'd need to bring a monitor too. Honestly, if I were in your situation, I'd bring it to GameStop and ask if they can help you out by letting you download the update using their WiFi and one of their little monitors they use to test trade-ins.

They would probably let me if I hadn't bought it at Best Buy. ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Didn't mean to derail the thread with my personal problems.

That shouldn't stop you. Just be polite, you can even tell them you bought it at BB, and try to do it when they aren't busy. I didn't suggest taking it to BB because Geek Squad probably has a pricing schedule for installing console updates.

Edit: Yep, $30 in-store, $100 on-site (which wouldn't do you any good most likely, unless they have it on USB): http://www.geeksquad.com/services/home-theater/gaming-setup.aspx

I would think that a GameStop manager would see it as an opportunity to build a relationship with a future customer. The fact that you don't have internet means you are more likely to purchase physical release games, since you can't get downloads. Doesn't hurt to call and ask.

Never could get into deadly premonition becsause of the clunky controls. I loved what I saw of the story though

They pulled the update before Xbox One came out. I think they put it back up afterwards.

Same here. That's why I'm glad D4 doesn't have clunky controls. Couldn't play DP for more than 30 minutes because of the controls.

It is actually stupid for Microsoft or any company to release something that won't work right out of the box.
At launch it makes sense to a degree simply because of the nature of these machines and how the software evolves up to and beyond the actual launch. Nearly a year later with a Kinectless SKU and stuff you would think they might have started putting a different version of the base F/W on it that doesn't need to connect to play disc games.

Have they really not released a new model of Xbox One that has some post-launch FW already installed on it? That would be incredibly stupid of them to do that.

Sorry mate. I wasn't having a go. I was just curious how that slipped through the cracks. I agree with everyone that Microsoft shouldn't have released anything that didn't work straight out of the box. I don't know what it's like there but here in Australia you can go into a Kmart and for $20 grab a 3G/4G USB modem or a internet hub without a contract with a couple GBs of data. Just grab one of those and use it to authenticate/update your Xbone. Though ultimately if you are a gold subscriber and want to take advantage of the GWG promotion you might want to pull the trigger on internet so you can download free games.

This is especially true considering how many people in the US military are often away on bases without internet and were huge consumers of games in the last generation of consoles.

Defense Grid 2 comes out this week. Steam price is $25, so probably the same on console. Although the PC version also comes with the first game, dlc, and some other stuff. If it is over $15, I'll be waiting for a sale.

Anybody excited for Slenderman the Arrival coming out on the 24th
I would be a little bit if it was coming to X1.

If anybody's interested in trying Chaos;Child, the first Japanese-exclusive Xbox One game, I've written a guide on how to get the demo from any region. It's easy!

Raiden V announced for Xbox One, and How to get Chaos;Child demo
Thanks for the guide. I hope Psycho Pass gets a demo. That's the one Japan only game I want to play that I know about. Not sure when the full game is supposed to come out. I'm still a little nervous about changing regions though.

The pre-order comes with some bonuses, not the actual game.

Well, guys, I went ahead and signed up for an Internet package today. I look forward to finally getting my 360 and my One online. Other than updating the One, I've been wanting to download Radiant Silvergun on my 360 for quite a few years now so I'm actually looking forward to it. But thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Finally gave up on Bioshock 1, just couldn't handle it anymore. Now I'm going to download Infinite and play through it before attempting Bioshock 2.

Here's hoping Infinite goes infinitely (hehe) better than Bioshock 1.

The best part of the game is the start before you start fighting. You can spend a lot of time just checking out the world. Combat still feels bowly as bowls, but the world looks a lot better.

I know it's been this way for months, but I hate that Forza Rewards only gives out credits these days. I miss getting cars.
