Only playing one hero regardless of team compositions and match types is bound to be frustrating and very unlikely to be successful. The heroes are not balanced 1:1, if you try to play Bastion against a team of Junkrats and Genjis, you better be the top Bastion player in the world (they are specifically designed to counter you).


Here's a couple suggestions for characters and how to play to their strengths:

Pharah: Go easy on your jetpack and use it in bursts after your high jump to stay airborne as long as possible. If you're really twitchy you can try using your knockback shot to keep yourself in the air as well, but I generally lose a lot of height trying that. You're weak and a sitting duck when you fire your rocket barrage, so make sure you've got a good flanking position or a pocket healer when you open up.

Reaper: The orbs players drop on death heal you and your ghost ability can counter any traps, grabs, slows etc if you time it perfect (you can hear them before they take effect). Reaper also has high health for an attacker, but he isn't a tank and if caught outnumbered will drop quickly. However, it doesn't get much better than dropping in and wiping a whole team in a whirlwind of shotgun blasts.

Junkrat: Your remote mine will propel yourself and enemies, making it very useful on maps with cliffs to knock people off or high ground to rain grenades from. Both your remote mine and beartrap can be tossed pretty far if you aim high. The grenades you drop on death will kill most characters close enough. Find a quiet place to trigger your ult, and note that you can climb walls with it by jumping.

Winston: Make Tracer, Genji, and Reinhardt cry by shocking their asses no matter how much they try to dash around and block you. Your shield bubble can counter a number of ultimates and has a long cooldown, so don't spam it. Your ult will rarely get kills if there's not a cliff nearby, but it will frustrate the hell out of the enemy and can knock them out of the objective long enough to secure the win.

Reinhardt: Go into the options and change your shield to a toggle. Ride the objective. Beware of spray type weapons you can't block, like Winston or Mei.

Mercy: Turn on toggle heal. Only play her if there's a Pharah or Winston to leash; once you get the hang of retracting and gliding, you won't want to walk around if you can help it. It's generally more advantageous to buff an ally's attack than switch to your pistol, but don't forget about it when caught alone - she does great headshot damage. If your Pharah uses her ult, switch to healing - they'll try to focus fire her and she's vulnerable while opened up.

Zenyatta: Easily the weakest healer, but his damage is excellent and his ult is a straight up counter to 90% of the other ults.

Lucio: Switch to speed when you hear ults trigger - most players will scatter and your heal is too slow. Obviously his ult can either counter ults or be used in advance of a rush (it's an aoe shield buff).

Mei: Your teammates love it when you throw walls up in front of them, especially at the start of the match. They totally love it, trust me. Do it every chance you get. Try it, 4realz.


*edit* Groo, I agree that Roadhog is awesome. I just don't think his kit needs any explanation, like you said hook 'em and blow them in half. I like to pick him when there's no healer so I can get on the board for most healing done (also because I don't need no stinkin' healer, munch munch munch).

Or you can play as Roadhog and hook/shotgun ur face everyone to death like I do. He's my main tank, Lucio is my main healer, and Sombra is my new main support gal. I love Overwatch. On the surface, its so simple to pick up and play, but there's so much strategic depth lying beneath it.

Honestly if I were you, I would just wait for a deal on Rare Replay. The first two games are great and it's worth checking out both the first game and Tooie, N&B is not terrible by any stretch but it's not a traditional platformer. It's a physics based game and well I feel like it works sometimes, but other times it's frustrating.

Two things. First off, it's cosmetic stuff and well I am level 172 and I have still not unlocked legendary skins for some characters yet. Doesn't impact the game in any way.

More importantly you need to learn to play more than one hero. Trust me, if you only play one hero, your going to piss off a lot of players because when someone counters your hero, your team's performance will go down. You don't want to be labeled as that guy who the whole team bitches about. I put enough hours into Overwatch, I seen this time and time again.

Rare Replay is actually part of the sale now at just under $10 for Gold members.

 
IMO, if you have a Xbox One you automatically should have Rare Replay. It's some of Rare's best games and well a few of it will be nostalgia based but overall Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark are great. Some sort of Forza games, some sort of Gears games and some sort of Halo games should be on your system. I was also a fan of Insomniac Games' Sunset Overdrive.

Also State of Decay is highly enjoyable, aside from the bugs early on it's quite a good zombie experience (I liked it more then the Walking Dead games personally - resource gathering, HQ upgrades, social element to a zombie world (You get attached to the characters, I was devastated when Marcus got surrounded by zombies and a grenade I was carrying blew him up)) and I'm favorable to a few Dead Rising games - although f the first one.

say what you will but I used Xbox Fitness a lot in the beginning when Gold members got things free.

Can anyone else recommend the Metro Redux bundle? I tried to get into 2033 on 360 and something about it just didn't grab me. I hear they put a lot of work into the re-release though vs being just a simple remaster, and for the price I might give them another go.

 
I played Last Light on previous gen (forget if it was PS3 or 360).  Got stuck about 2/3 the way through and decided I didn't care enough to backtrack a bit

Ended up buying the Metro Redux disc during some DOTD type sale at BB and played both all the way through.  

It didn't seem like they did much from what I remember.  Graphics were better but not earth shatteringly better.

I really enjoyed them.  Traded it in and bought it digitally on PS4.

I really, REALLY wanted to love those games but no matter how much I tried I just couldn't enjoy them. They're both perennial sales fodder, so if you have a backlog (and really, you should) they'll probably be on sale again before you get to them anyway. I'm voting pass.

I read the first book and then played 2033 3 times and Last Light twice. They are well made games with 2033 being one of the best remasters I have played. The graphics are better and I believe they tweaked the gameplay some to play more like Last Light. Last Light is a little more like a typical shooter. Last Light did not change nearly as much, minor graphical update mostly. I do feel like the story might be gibberish or very disjointed to someone who hasn't read the book. Did anyone who didn't read the book think so? I easily recommend both games and the book if you think the setting is for you.

 
Titanfall 2 can kiss my ass with these achievements. That time trial achievement is brutal and may be my new bane-of-my-existence cheevo for years to come. And those who said Battlefield 1's hard mode is tougher than Titanfall 2's master mode hasn't played Battlefield 1 yet apparently. That game was a cakewalk compared to this. I'm wondering if I should stop being an achievement whore for a moment and bump it down to normal just to experience the game.

I remember hearing the master difficulty on Titanfall wasn't that bad and started on it thinking I could maybe 1k the game. Proceeded to die a half dozen times at the start of the level and bounced it back to normal. I'm sure it's doable but who has time to play like that

My thoughts exactly. This is a game that places emphasis on speed, parkour, and style, but you can't do that when the game's difficulty forces you to play CoD-style from behind cover the whole time. Took me nearly two goddamn hours to finish the level where I actually first get my titan.

I do feel challenged by those that say BF1 was harder. That was one of the easier hard difficulty game playthroughs I've done lately. Infinite Warfare was also fairly easy due to the fact that your AI squad mates do all the killing and play the game for you.

Metro 2033 Redux is one of the few remasters worthy of that name, as it was actually remastered in a different engine (the improved version of the 4A Engine that its sequel was built with).

I want to read the book. But well I don't really read anymore. I think one of them was free on Amazon in the last year. I grabbed it but still haven't attempted to read it. I thought the story was interesting.

Ahahaha, I played the Gauntlet for 2 and a half hours trying to get that time trial achievement, if that's what you were referring to, but made myself physically sick due to all the parkouring. I was so close but decided to "bite the bullet" and start the campaign. I'm glad I did, the campaign is great.

Yeah I couldn't get into Metro but I heard lots of good things and kept at it. I have the bundle because I got them with Saints Row IV but mainly I wanted to support the devs because it's from a small russian game studio.

I just need the master time trial achievement to 1000/1000 titfanfall 2, but I gave up after an hour trying. Eventually I'll have to do it because seeing 985/1000 is just going to drive me nuts .

Couldn't agree more, and it is definitely a steal for the bundle. Although it may not wow everyone or win any awards, it is a solid game that I am enjoying playing (and sneaking around in) and it hits the right notes. You could do a lot worse for $6. :twoguns: :bouncy:

 
I posted this in the Walmart clearance thread already, but I found a light blue 2 TB Seagate Slim external hard drive at my local store for $50 tonight. It took 20 minutes to get a manager to override it since the sticker on the security box said $50 and the sticker on the drive said $89.99, but I think it was worth it. Is this a good drive for my Xbox One?

It should work fine with the Xbox One. If you could find a 4TB Seagate for $25, that would be the better deal though.

Wow. That would be a great deal. But stuff that cheap doesn't stay around at that Walmart for very long. I'm just glad I don't have to keep deleting games to add more games. I might even be able to go digital with Rare Replay now!
 
I have a question for everyone. My wife recently bought me an Xbox One and it is my first Xbox. What are a few games people would consider must buys from this sale? I have both the Halo and GoW series, Rare Replay, TF2, Overwatch and EA Access. Thanks in advance!

my picks would be Metro Redux Bundle, Tomb Raider: DE, Life is Strange, Shadow of Mordor. Already own them but for the price would buy again.
