Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

So the original Xbox game discs of Ninja Gaiden Black, KOTOR will work on the XB1?  Crazy.

Next question, can you install them to the X1's hard drive so the discs don't spin all the time?

Surprised MS is doing this but very happy as that OG Xbox had a pretty spectacular library. Much better than the X1's.

K I'll give it a shot.

*puts on glasses*

I can't tell you what to do, but I can help you make an informed choice.

On the one hand you want to support the program - you value their hard work and know that buying these games is the best way you can demonstrate your support and appreciation for it. And on the other hand, you like to get the most value for the money you spend, and wouldn't want to spend money erroneously if you didn't have to. The truth is, though, that's a risk we take every time, and this program's continuation may be dependent on user engagement. I wonder if there's a way you could do both. What do you think, ResidentAlien?
That, you are trying to make me spend money and I need to find a new shrink(?) :D/

Thanks for being a good sport. :) And for your input. I assure you, its not falling on deaf ears...I may not act on it, but I'm listening.

The OG XBox disc games BC works same as the 360 BC on the One where it reads the disc and downloads the title digitally so it stays on the HDD and after that just needs the disc to play it off from the HDD.

Installed my $2 copy of Black. It's very cool to see these games running, if nothing else for archival purposes, but it's hard to go back to old FPS - especially military games that tried to be realistic. I do appreciate the multiple objectives, though, Goldeneye started that trend and then it slipped away pretty quickly.

I expect KOTOR and Psychonauts to have aged better, given their genres.

Just a little old-fashioned motivational interviewing. That's what I get for mixing work with pleasure.

Loading my copy of Crimson Skies currently.

Gave my son a SNES classic today for his birthday. Yea for nostalgia, but my tastes in gameplay and graphics have far outgrown my yesteryears.

Ninja Gaiden Black  is one of those games that will make you want to throw your controller thru the tv.

It's easy top five for hardest games I've ever played.  Though on normal it's a little easier then Ninja Gaiden. But from very hard to Master Ninja it's frustrating. You have to invest time learning the game.

It's easier now then when it first came out.  We didn't have youtube videos showing exploits. I just don't have the time to learn to play a game like that anymore.

All I got to say is if you buy it, good luck.

There's only two, or maybe three og xbox titles I want. Kotor, which I bought last night, Kotor2, and Morrowind. That's it. None of the old og games really have any nostalgia for me other than those few. And after seeing how poorly the graphics held up for kotor I dunno if I'll even play much of it.

Wrong wrong wrong.....Stubbs

I think this is great fan service to include OG Xbox BC, but after all of this massive nostalgia hype, I’d be curious to know how much time people buying these original Xbox titles will actually play them before getting bored, or frustrated with the controls / cameras / graphics and then forgetting about them again...Especially Kotor. I have yet to fire up a game from that era or older that I actually still enjoy enough to put aside my current gen games. I would wager that most will play a couple of hours or a few levels and then stop.

Forgot I bought Black digital at some point on my 360. It was in my ready to download tab. I remember never finishing it. Thought it was one of the hardest shooters I ever played. Maybe now I’m a little older and can sit and finally beat it.

I would wager that most will play a couple of hours or a few levels and then stop.
depends on the game

I could play black pretty much any time for fun

pretty much the same for dead to rights and pop as well

even a few hours and ownership of the game for opportunity to play them in the modern day is enough for me

Also, anyone have any input in the horror bundle that's 80% off?
I'm slightly interested in uncanny valley and I believe I keep hearing good things about kill all zombies.

I don't get the love for Stubb's
I played it for about three hours and was highly disappointed.
Back in the day it got old after an hour or two, and that was when it was fresh and new. Just watched a clip of it on YouTube and after three minutes I started to get a headache, so doubt I'd really ever play it.

The gameplay of Stubbs was repetitive for me, but it was the excellent story and voice acting at the time that pushed me through it. I beat the game a couple times and I remember possession being a really fun move. Even though the game wasn't perfect it did everything well enough in my opinion to make it a classic.

On a side note KOTOR looks great on my kindle. Are the graphics better or worse on the one ?

NGB and KOTOR are all I wanted in this batch. Added replay value for NGB is that it has widescreen, which I didnt have the first time around. And KOTOR I havent played for almost 15 years, I dont remember much of it.

Now, I hope they do Vice City and San Andreas in the next one, I kept my discs for those. I'd be happy with at least Vice City.

Sounds like it's just not for you. While yes, early 3D games can have more issues that the older 2D games generally have, Xbox games were a generation into 3D so they hold up better than the N64/PS1 era. The graphics aren't nearly as bad and most of the growing pains that the previous generation had were already figured out.

I played a couple hours of KotOR earlier. The only things that really stuck out as outdated were the lack of widescreen and no controller sensitivity options. In general the voice acting is still up to modern standards other than some weirdness with non-Basic speakers, and it's story is great. I think KotOR will hold the attention of people that never played it just fine, especially with the drought of good Star Wars games.

The only limiting factor I see is the low number of games we have, with only about 4 or 5 having fairly strong reputations. I think most people that are going to take advantage of Xbox BC are going to know what they're in for going in and be fine with it. People getting bored or frustrated are most likely to be those that still have the original discs from 15 years ago, and are solely curious to go back to games they played before. Those that are actually buying the games for the first time or re-buying long lost discs will enjoy themselves.

So, I have Ninja Gaiden Black that I traded for years ago on here, then never played. Plus a sealed copy of Dead to Rights that I got from a CompUSA deal pasted years ago.

Maybe I can finally beat both!

There are just two more titles that need to be Xbox OG BC:

Jade Empire
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

I have the day one copy of Dead Rising 3 on disk with no dlc. I have not finished it yet, but plan to....is the AE worth grabbing for the DLC?

I was browsing through the OG Xbox games, glad that I *have* to switch on the 360 if I want to buy something - I have to get up and take few steps to get the controller and we all know thats not going to happen unless my life depended on it.

So, I click on Ninja Gaiden and it says I own the product. :O Dont remember buying it, not sure how/why it happened. Guess, I now have an OG XBox game in my library. :) Yay me!

Edit: I have the game pass trial until the 31st. Hope its not from that.

Just fired up NGB and it looks amazing. Definitely better than I can ever remember it. Only one disappointment so far — the loading times are still surprisingly long. Perhaps they’ll be better on the X. But I’m quite impressed on the way it looks just on the S.

Agreed. I was just thinking - "Either I have very low standards and am easily impressed; or, they did a really good job". The textures and the game itself looks really well made and I'm on X1S. Must look awesome on X1X.

Depends on the game. Ninja Gaiden Black is a classic.

Speaking of which, NGB looks amazing! It's like a mid-gen 360 title at times. The graphics so beautiful and clean. I can't wait to see the difference on the X.

Fuzion Frenzy is also a lot more playable considering all the frame drops on the 360/OG XBox. Still a ugly game but solid party fun. Nice take on the Mario Party genre by MS.

Was just looking at even the grass in NGB and am just blown away. I play some PS2 on PS4 games and they still feel like...PS2 games. Other than wishing it had more modern camera controls, NGB doesn’t feel like it’s aged much at all. Being widescreen also probably helps a bit.

I've just played a few hours of KOTOR on my X1S and I'm really surprised at how good the game looks. I wasnt expecting it to hold so well after so long. I've played much more recent games that dont look this good. The voice acting so far is also better than I remember. I'll definitely be giving it a playthrough.

People are reporting that Xlink Kai actually *does* work to play the old games online on the X1 via the system link option. I may actually try that this weekend on Crimson Skies.

Kind of sucks we're probably only going to get 2-3 OG updates in 2018 at this rate, but I guess that's really no different that how OG on the 360 was handled. Fewer but more substantial updates.

Agreed with whoever said Psychonauts holds up well earlier. I have owned it for well over 10 years now, got it at some Toys R Us sale where it wound up being like 15 bucks, but never actually played it until now. Seems super well done compared to most cartoony games. Some of the best voice acting I've heard in a game.

I'm pretty floored how good these OG games look on X1. No one is going to mistake them for a new 2017 game by any means, but it's also not the blurry mess that I was expecting. Crimson Skies and Psychonauts look and sound good enough that I'll probably actually play through both of them. The Crimson Skies music is especially awesome, I had completely forgotten about that.

it has the Ninja Gaiden Arcade game instead.
That is a poor, poor trade for the NES games.

I think it would be really interesting to see the overall BC numbers for the 360 (and now OG).

While that is pretty cool, you'd be shocked how many people out there are suggesting that M$ build xlink into BC games or that xlink should make an xbone app. They don't seem to understand the basic premise of a 3rd party hack running on a local PC to trick your xbox into thinking you're at a lan party. It's a neat workaround, but it was probably a bigger deal in 2004 when people were using it to play with modded xboxes or just to get around paying for XBL.

I am always butting heads with my achievement ambitions and my CAG sensibility. Paying $5+ for The Park just for the achievements feels so wrong but I did it anyway.

Anyone here earn points for Best Buy certs using their Visa card? Kind of annoyed because for some reason the points that I get from each statement aren’t showing up like a week after they normally do. Not sure if they changed the timing on when they post but I need credit for games dammit!

Was wondering that myself, my statement closes the 16th, usually the next Monday after they post (9/22 and 8/21 were my last two) but this month hasn't shown despite getting the "here's your next statement" email that usually generates at around the same time. Will be even more annoying next month when they don't post before BF.

Yeah, think mine generates on the 14th and last months we’re 9/19 and 8/18. So either they have a glitch or they’re changing the timing. Either way it’s a pain in the ass. Had originally planned on using certs towards AC: Origins, but I went ahead and preordered yesterday to make sure I also get the $10 bonus.

If I don’t get them by the end of the month, guess I’ll be calling customer service. :(

De Blob has finally been rated for XB1. Its existence was leaked a while ago, looks like it is coming soon.
