Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Not that anyone would be tempted by only 25% off Cities:Skylines, but don't forget the Premium Edition launches Nov 14th which will include the season's pass (7 DLC so far); might be worth waiting for a sale on that version.
Thanks. I have credit sitting on my account that I was thinking of picking up cities with. Will definitely wait now, possibly hope for it in the winter sale or grab it with GCU if it'll be physical. Should just be patient and save my credit.

Prince of Persia is a mechanics-driven game.  It pre-dated the Assassin's Creed series and you can easily see how.  With PoP, there are essentially three pillars of gameplay: puzzles, climbing, and combat.  You will do these in a small section over & over and then move on to the next room for...what...8 hours?  12 hours?  Its been well over a decade since I completed the game, so its runtime eludes me at the moment.

I purchased PoP myself this evening.  I loved it back in the day.  I liked the Prince.  I liked the love interest.  I remember liking the way I felt when I played it so very long ago.  It'll be a fun "chill" game because its seldom intense but is genuinely enjoyable.

I never played Psychonauts.

Looking for some advice. I am definitely picking up KOTOR to play through again, but I want to pick up one more to add to my growing backlog. I shamefully never finished Prince of Persia: Sands of Time or Psychonauts. If I can only pick one for right now, which one should I grab first? I have heard amazing things about both.

So last week I noticed that my local Best Buy had maybe 5-6 copies of both Fallout 3 GOTY and Elder Scrolls Oblivion: GOTY for sale for $14.99 ($11.99 GCU). I own the vanilla versions of both and they are in my backlog. I've definitely been meaning to get to them at some point. However, even with some Fallout 3 DLC on sale this past week, it would still cost more to buy each DLC pack than to get the GOTY editions, so I figured I would eventually pick these up.

When the news came out this morning that these games were getting X1X patches, I assumed the prices may go up, so I figured I would try to purchase them today just in case. When I went to check on the area where they had them on the shelves, every copy of both game was gone. I asked an employee if they still had them in stock and then he went to talk to a couple of co-workers for a bit about it. A short while later he came out with a copy of each. He was super nice about it but he told me that they had supposedly just received a new shipment today and I believe he said they were the last copies in store...

...which was quite a coincidence. Not going to complain because he was able to find what I was looking for and it was really nice that he grabbed them for me, but that certainly was interesting.
In case you aren't already aware, the DLC is on the second disc, so you can just install and flip, just don't lose the DLC.

Anyone else having this problem or should I be concerned?

Got it all evening. Made two phone calls, talked to two reps and a supervisor, got hung up on twice. Argued in circles with the supervisor about the ability both to redeem a Gold trial code on the website and then use it to purchase a game that is on sale for Gold only. You know, both things I've done multiple times in the last two months. He never once addressed the login issue besides saying nothing is wrong with my account. My girlfriend talked to another rep who also couldn't help. He tried logging into my account himself (I changed my password already) and got the error. He didn't know what to do about it. He transferred her to sales to see if they could authorize the purchase without Gold but they were closed and it disconnected her. Eventually my girlfriend was able to login via her browser on her phone, after unchecking "remember this device." Which confirmed what I had been saying to rep #2 and the supervisor that their authentication servers are broken in some weird way.

P.S. if you ever end up with supervisor James, you'll want to find another one. He sounded like a pot head, arguing in circles with me.

My biggest question is can we buy original games with credit or will it be 360 BS again? There's something to ask during the stream.

And I enthusiastically recommend Black if you like shooters, I remember loving it the way I loved Bulletstorm.

Is Diablo 3 worth $16 on the 360?
360/PS3 versions of D3 UEE are not worth it at all (unless you want easy albeit time consuming achievements) because they stopped supporting them in the early days of the game when it was an unfinished mess. There was only like 2 classes that could even do the highest difficulty at a reasonable pace solo. Those versions also did not get greater rifts which are the meat of the game really, they gave you something to actually do with all the gear you spent time grinding.

Were you able to import it to FX3?

It looks like they started. I went ahead and purchased the few Marvel tables I didn't have (Ant Man, Avengers AoU, Venom, and Guardians). They transferred to X1 FX2 and FX3. If you didn't know already, the individual tables are now part of a bundle on FX3 so if you're missing a table or two from the pack you may want to buy it on the 360 so you can transfer them to the X1.

The following packs from the 360 FX2 will not transfer to the X1.

Iron and Steel

Bethesda (thanks AD)

Portal

Ninja Gaiden (mentioned before)

Edit - Don't have any info on The Walking Dead since I seem to have gotten it free when I dl'ed FX3 so I have it both on the X1 FX2 and FX3 and I am not buying it on the 360 just to find out.
When did you buy the 360 Marvel tables? Asking because when trying to buy ingame FX2 (Xbone) it says none of them are purchasable anymore. Even though all the Marvel tables still show 2,99€ which isn't the case for Bethesda, Portal or Walking Dead or Iron and Steel...

Also like I said in the PM I was able to transfer the Bethesda Tables to FX3 but FX2 will be forever incomplete on the Xbone now... I "wasted" 11 bucks because my only hope was it will still get recognized on FX2 on the One...I wonder if you ever delete you FX2 dlc...you probably can't download it back in this case, also this comment from trueachivements really worries me if ever lose the content:

"I would advise not deleting Pinball FX2 even if you have all the DLC. I have two Xbox Ones and own all the DLC. However I noticed I hadn't downloaded the Marvel Women of Power on one of my boxes and am unable to do so. It doesn't appear in my ready to install list, luckily I have everything downloaded on my other box."

hopefully installing orignal xbox gams by disc works later today. not working yet. also hoping Ninja Gaiden will count for Ninja Gaiden Black.
It won't due to the fact that Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black are considered two separate games. It'd be cool to make both versions BC. Also I hope that means that 2 and RE will be come BC soon(I'm hoping later in the week but who knows?)

Re: what to get besides KOTOR

Crimson Skies is the best choice on the list...on the thousand to one chance you have multiple Xbox consoles you can LAN up, and/or the only slightly more possible scenario where Microsoft changed something on their end to allow third party programs like xLink Kai to work on it (MS changed something several years back that sort of killed it for Xbox games). Without the multiplayer it drops down the list a bit, although it's still cool.

From the remaining choices...Psychonauts, NG Black, and Prince of Persia. In that order. The first two get annoying with difficulty at times, the third feels at least somewhat dated but it has a cool gimmick.

Dude, just clear your cookies in your browser for anything microsoft or xbox related and it goes away. This sort of thing happens just about anytime they change something significant, especially if you use a browser other than theirs.

i don't chat with people at all when i play F13 and i love it, been playing it several times a week since launch
I don't understand how, though. How do you communicate with people to let them know you found the car battery, etc? Survival just seems impossible without the walkie talkie and without every person using a headset.

I think if you only have a 360 and want to play local co-op with someone, D3 is fine on it, lots to do, and you can still import you character to the X1 version if you ever upgrade. Word is online is a hacked shitty mess, though.

Popped in Crimson Skies and Ninja Gaiden discs, got an error message about "this game not supported" which is a step in the right direction from just playing the DVD "insert this into your console" clip.

In case you aren't already aware, the DLC is on the second disc, so you can just install and flip, just don't lose the DLC.

I've never played Psychonauts, but 3d platformers don't always age well.

PoP was one of my favorite game series back in the day. I think I fizzled out midway thru the 3rd one, but Sands of Time was far and away the best of them. I loved the platforming and puzzles, but got bored of the combat when I realized how ridiculously awesome the off-the-wall torpedo attack was. The plus side is that combat went pretty quick once I got that move down.

Does anyone have a theory why Castlevania LoS 1 isn't available digitally and isn't BC? I played the first level a long time back and would like to give it another go. LoS 2 I remember didn't get as good of reviews...

Must.. wait.. for sale... on xbox.. originals.. must... not.. buy... KotOR.. yet!

*edit* Omg, M$, get with the program and fix your stupid billing so you can use credit on 360/OG games! I have a 360 sitting around for just this purpose, but how have they not been getting flooded with complaints about that? Just keep prioritizing unnecessary changes to the dash, I guess.

I’d say Psychonauts aged well. It has a bizarre art style which keeps it from looking super horrible.

As far as Castlevania goes: possibly royalties? Patrick Stewart did a TON of voice acting in the first and I know he’s in the second.

Just learned that Ninja Gaiden Black doesn’t have the original NES games like the original release did. I guess that makes an easy “no” for me.

I remember playing ninja gaiden on Xbox and collecting them golden scarabs and I was 1 shy away from unlocking the new game but I never found it.I did not use a guide or look it up on the net man I was pissed that I never found that lonesome scarab.

Shit, if it's going to be spring before we see a second batch, I guess quickly grabbing all the Xbox games you want to play not be a great idea. I'm going to slowly pick up stuff that's really cheap now. If I come across anything else on the list at like $5 or below I'll probably grab it. I think Ninja Gaiden is the only remaining one I want.

Hoping that there will be more per batch if we're waiting so long between them, like 20-25. And that they don't waste slots or effort on games that have some sort of re-release, like Halo 1 and 2 or Voodoo Vince. It kind of sucks that Grabbed by the Ghoulies is one of the 13 when everyone already has Rare Replay, but I'd guess most or all of these games were what they were testing with, and first party games kind of get a pass as they should understand them the best. I'm fine with the double releases with 360 since we get a few every week, but if they're going to call this "curated" they really should focus on otherwise unplayable games.

Batches do seem like the way to go instead of a random game once every 3-4 weeks. Getting old games published on XBL also makes sense for waiting til a bunch are done at once so they can handle the business side of things in bulk.

Really hoping for EA, Rockstar, and Bethesda titles since they've mostly supported BC for 360. Disappointing we probably won't get Burnout 3 (or 4 on 360) due to music licensing.

Had to laugh at the post saying "for the first time, 3 generations on one console." Maybe for the brand, but launch PS3 did that 10 years ago.

unless I am missing something dr4 deluxe and game+season pass are the same thing except it's cheaper to go the vanilla+season pass route on this sale?

I knew holding out on Michonne 360 would pay off. Got that, now watch it be GWG next month.

Anyone else receive their 5000 Microsoft reward points yet for pre-ordering Forza 7 during the Forza 7 Take the lead promotion?

Wow. So glad I renewed my Live last week. The Shocktober deals are shockingly good for the indie games.

ResetEra is the new NeoGAF.  Or at least, its the place many of its former moderators migrated to after the scandal.

More here for those interested.  Site has not yet launched.

Side note: While I wish CAG had more moderation, on the whole I am really happy with the community that has evolved under Cheapy's guidance.

It was a two-disc game. It never saw a digital release. It is one of the few remaining two-disc games with no digital version.

I am not sure who does the conversion work on these old no-digital two-disc games when they go BC. Is that Microsoft?

I would love to replay it on Xbox One X.

D4 is $3.75. Any thoughts on that? Seems weird and cool, but I thought I remember it having lots of weird tech/control issues.

I enjoyed D4 a lot. It's very weird and quirky but that's what made the game fun. The game does end on a cliffhanger and it seems like we will never get part 2.

Was thinking back about six months ago when I sold a few of those OG Xbox games (Black, Crimson Skies, Psychonauts, POP). What a dumbass. Of course, I never in a million years expected OG BC.

i guess i don't take it that seriously, i have a lot of fun whether i escape or die

i just look at the map a lot to see whether the car parts have been installed

Some of the comments about these BC OG games crack me up... They’re like “I wrote the words ‘Ninja Gaiden Black’ on a blank CD I had laying around. I hope the X1 recognizes it and lets me play!!!”

Ummmm... No.

MAKE IT HAPPEN. LARRY PLZ.

(not a leak, I made this.)

You don't want Max Payne 1?

How long does it take for your code to arrive when you order it from Bing Rewards? Since the Microsoft Rewards rebrand in Canada, I have enough for a $10 gift card and depending on how long it takes, I may redeem it.

Personally I hope Breakdown becomes bc

I usually get mine within an hour of redeeming.

I booted up Knights of the old Republic. The performance is night and day between the original XBox version and the X1S version. I recall frame drops in the tutorial area and the frame rate wasn't steady at all. Waiting to hear the digitial foundry verdict. Obviously the downsides are no full screen (wide screen) and the CGI being the original quality looks horrible today.

Prince of Persia runs fine.

Gonna run Ninja Gaiden Black and Fuzion Frenzy tonight. I have Psychonauts but already got the steam version and not interested in booting it up ATM. Crimson Skies was a awesome game but without the live MP I don't feel like playing it much. Maybe get a LAN party going one of these days.
