Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

It's barren on Xbox One and going by the achievements it was always a ghost town. The achievement for playing a single online match is damn near a rare achievement (it's an under 15% unlock....for ONE MATCH).

Infinite reeks of a 'DGAF' presentation, but it's still a decent game and sadly, probably the best fighting game Capcom has put out since like Capcom vs SNK2 almost 20 years ago.

The S is pretty much the same as the original, just in a smaller form factor. There is a very minor uptick in the power of the s S so it could handle 4k video without issue.
I'm guessing when we see the new console in 2020 or 21 there will be another hard break as far as newer games not working on Xbox One (S or X), but also I assume every X1 game will work on the next console along with the older 360/original games.
Halo Infinite as the name suggest will still play on The Xbox corticle node when it releases in 2047. Also it will obviously play on the 360 and the original Xbox from 2001. INFINITE.

Having network issues at launch certainly didn’t help either. Plus majority of the fighting game community moved to ps4 and pc.

This might be my time to buy L.A. Noire on X1.

I own the downloadable version on xbox 360 but only played about 7-10 hours and haven't touched it in 5+ years. I've always wanted to give it another shot and I don't think Rockstar will make it BC.

What's that countdown stuff? Is that for games about to go on sale or games about to leave Game Pass?

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is the first game in the series since X-men vs Street Fighter that wasn't fun for me to play. There's no aux controller compatibility on the PS4 (a huge no-no) and the CPU is vicious unless you close in and tap light punch for cheesy auto-combos. Graphics are average, presentation is bland, story mode is dumb beyond words... people say the gameplay makes up for all that but I'm not even thrilled with THAT. There's no wonder it was a flop... if Capcom didn't care, why should anyone else?

I just assumed the servers were down since ive never actually made it into an online match. I've sat for 20-30 minutes and never entered a match
It's the abysmal reception the game had, coupled with the fact that most fighting game players play on PS4. I think most fans of the class Vs. Capcom games are either playing Dragonball FighterZ or the the port of Ultimate MvC3.

Come to think of it I hope Soul Calibur manages to maintain a decent playerbase on Xbox. With V I really like the big regional lobbies, but after a while no one was in them, and 360 was the dominant fighting game console last gen.

My disc version of the MCC also says 74gb for the update even without owning an X. That's a monster of a game. I guess I'll get it out of the way before my data cap resets.

*Edit* Pretty interesting stuff. That intelligent download or whatever is neat. You can change the download order of the games and if you want single player or multiplayer. For anyone curious...Halo CE 3.5gb...Halo 2 44.1gb...Halo 3 11.7gb...ODST 8.2gb...Halo 4 18.8gb

So just so I'm understanding... will there be another XB1X MCC update in September or should this 74 GB monster be it?
This is it, they rolled it out early as it was done and it means more people will be in matchmaking when the game goes live on GamePass in a few days. There are more patches planned but it sounds like they'll be a while. They have a list of bugs still in the patch notes, and at the very least they want to add a server browser and strongly hint that something Reach related could happen because of all the feedback.

Just make sure to check the options when Ready to Play pops up if you don't want to download everything. It downloads ODST by default even if you don't have the DLC, and everyone can go ahead and un-select the Halo 4 Campaign. You unfortunately need Halo 4 MP installed for one of the Big Team playlists.

if i own the halo games on disc from the 360 do i have to download them again from halo mcc? or can i double dip on the achievements?

The Middle-earth : Shadow of War Silver and Gold editions were counting down to midnight Eastern because they've been delisted, replaced by a Definitive Edition of the game available for $60, currently on sale for $54.  Definitive edition is missing the Gold edition's Gold war chest, otherwise it lists the same content.  Regular version of the game is not on sale.

I think I'm going to finally jump on the Game Pass wagon especially with FH4, Halo6, Crackdown 3 being day 1 releases.  They are doing $2 for two months, end 8/31.

Good news ... the Xbox website will carry over a sale price into your pre-purchase authorization ... even if that auth-screen is still active for 10+ minutes after the sale expired @ 3:00am PDT (whether the website team knew about this or not?) ... and I'm installing the game right now on my XB1. :D/

ORyNhGp.jpg

Bad news ... the Xbox website, following your successful purchase, reads the licensing details from the backend, and says your game is associated with some unknown or missing hardware that's not associated with your account (so if it's not for XB1, and it's not for Win10, then what or whose system is it for?). :whistle2:(

ovliufS.jpg

Hilarious news ... the Xbox website engineers aren't testing error messages like this (or whatever other messages use this template) because closing the error message returns you to a blank screen.

I was really impressed by the opening level of Halo 4, and then it turned into a shooting gallery of generic looking enemies. Marty O'Donnell's absence really hurt the atmosphere of the game, too, the sound direction and music was so dull.

I think what hurts Halo 4 (and 5) the most is seeing games like Gears 4 which also got inherited by a new studio but managed to make a game that still felt like it belonged in the chronology.

I thought running out of ammo was sort of the whole Halo series thing, not something regulated to 4
Yep, it's a deliberate design choice to force the player to use different weapons which force different play styles. which I simultaneously appreciate and hate. On higher difficulties it can be quite the hindrance.

Halo 4 was the game that made me quit the franchise. When I bought my XB1, it came with a code for MCC. I gave the code away for free because that's how much it was worth in my mind.
I didn’t think it was that bad. However, it’s a huge reason why I went with PS4 for this generation initially. I realized I didn’t care about any Xbox exclusives. Halo 4 was the last straw for me. It wasn’t enjoyable to play and I just no longer cared about the franchise when I finished it.

In the list of additional games that Bloomy listed as having a countdown, Prison Architect had GWG written all over it but didn't think it'd be announced today.

I own none of those, that means four more games added to the backlog.

I love this month for Lego Star Wars III if nothing else. I had played with buying it a couple times as it is one of the few Lego games I don't already have, but something told me it would eventually be GWG if I was just patient.

I Only own one of those games! And what the fuck is Livelock? Is that the thing that protects me from identity theft?
Livelock is a twinstick shooter and kind of fun if you like that genre. But other than that...ewww what a terrible month.

Sony is still killing it with the quality of their free monthly games. For Honor was a nice addition this month but even PC is giving it away which goes to you show you how badly Ubisoft screwed up with that game.

Have Livelock on PS4 and it’s fun. But yeah, even not having any of those on X1, it’s still a pretty sad offering.

If you're doing just the 2 months, only Forza will be out in that time frame. Halo Infinite might not even be out next year, and with Crackdown 3's track record it's probably going to be somewhere around 2050.

I was really impressed by the opening level of Halo 4, and then it turned into a shooting gallery of generic looking enemies. Marty O'Donnell's absence really hurt the atmosphere of the game, too, the sound direction and music was so dull.
Really I think one of Halo 4's best attributes is its soundtrack, it's just utilized poorly in game, like it's mixed too low or something. It's a hell of a lot more unique than what Halo 5 had. I really don't understand all the circlejerking the community had for Kazuma Jinnouchi. I like his work on Metal Gear but Halo 5's OST just didn't bring much new, mostly just being worse re-workings of Marty's music and a few themes from 4.

Really, I wish MS would take advantage of the guys that left Bungie, Marty sounds like he'd be open to contract work on Halo Infinite, and they have the writer of the 1 through ODST on staff, though maybe he just doesn't want to work on the series full time any more.

2019 is really becoming year of the samurai isn't it?
Glad to see this is finally happening. I've never played the Onimusha games but I'm sure I'll like them since they're basically Samurai Resident Evil. Hopefully they figured out and licensing issues or whatever with the actor likenesses so all the games can come out.

Prison Architect just came out on the Switch a few days ago, I hope no dual console owners bought it.

The Monster World games are supposed to be pretty good, they just aren't super well-known in the US because they were on the Master System. If anyone has interest in the Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap remake that came out last year, that's actually the third game in a the series, with this collection having 1, 2, and 4. They didn't touch the gameplay in the remake so if you like that you'll probably have fun with this, and vice versa.

I bought LiveLock on sale for $4 and now it is free. Typical, should have seen it coming. Everyone enjoy your free game.

I am pleased that I never bought the Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World.
Ha I bought Livelock a long time before that. On paper that game should of been at least decent, doesn't really come together.

Is it possible that we got this games this month so that the attention is squarely on Shadow of the Tomb Raider since MS has the marketing deal with Square Enix? By announcing those four games, they'll be an afterthought by 9/12 when the deluxe edition unlocks. They may do the same in October with FH4 and Fallout 76 coming out.
