Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Finally got the Badlands quest done and got the game pass code. Of course it's right after I forget to turn off auto-renew on my 2 month trial.

Played about two and a half hours of the Fallout beta. Thoughts from someone with probably 700+ hours between Fallouts 3, New Vegas, and 4.

-No major bugs, but even on X the draw distance is an issue on certain things. Lots of super noticeable pop-in. Framerate was dropping pretty regularly in certain areas. I think this game desperately needs an option between Performance and Graphics on X, but given their track record I don't expect it.

-I see potential issues if there are server connection hiccups. My stamina meter stopped draining while sprinting for about 10 seconds once, and every container briefly pops a loading wheel when hovering over it for the first time.

-I wasn't following the main quest due to limited time, so was just kind of heading east. Enemies weren't a problem until I found a group of Scorched 19 levels above me and the giant bat at the same time. Found a lot of weapons and ammo as well. This was playing solo. If with a group I think these enemies would have been fine, though the bat didn't land so it might not be the case there.

-I only encountered one other player while wandering. We grouped up for a minute so I can't comment once. Seemed like it was about the same level of interaction as Borderlands, plus emotes.

-It seems like the microtransaction connected Atomic Shop could be a real grind-fest. There are items as high as 700 Atoms and a limited number of quests to get them. There seem to be a decent amount of one-time challenges you'll do over time, but once those are exhausted the dailies today are 60, with weeklies another 150.

-I can see the Pipboy interface being a problem for players not super familiar with the previous games. Just a few giant alphabetical lists, and I don't think you can re-name gear like 4, or I missed the option.

-Some UI issues in general. A few things are pretty small and hard to read if you have some distance from the screen. The handwritten notes were generally hard to read because of how dirty the paper is as well.

-I think clothing and armor has been simplified. Nothing I found had any effects other than Armor and Energy Resistance. It could just be the low level gear, or maybe this has been rolled entirely into the SPECIAL cards or the slightly more complex Aid/Food/Crafting systems.

-I did one public event, and it appeared to follow the Radiant Quest formula Bethesda always uses. Generic dialogue for a generic task.

-Again, I wasn't following the main quest, but the world feels extremely empty due the the lack of meaningful NPCs. No interaction with anyone, no host on the radio. They are banking hard on players loving exploration and combat, and multiplayer making up the rest.

-Combat is what bugged me the most. In general it is the same serviceable but not great combat as Fallout 4. Third person shooting is still not great because the tiny dot cursor being the only option. There were two huge flaws for me. Across the board, in and out of combat, there were dropped inputs constantly for me, meaning I would hit buttons and the action wouldn't happen. This could be a deal breaker for PVP, but that already sounds pretty bad from what I've heard from people that put in more time. If the PVE combat actually gets had eventually, it would be very frustrating there as well.

-Secondly, for ranged weapons I think VATS feels like absolute shit, just hit the button and spam away. Now, this can be done well, look at Soldier 76 in Overwatch or Nisha(?) in Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. Both of their Ultimates are auto-aim, but they feel good because your character actually aims the weapon model around the screen while getting a jazzed up animation and UI. All this VATS does is pop up a small percentage above the enemy. They also could have done something timing based like McCree's DeadEye from Overwatch. Melee VATS is a bit better feeling because it actually moves your aim around while you attack.

I'm definitely not getting the game at launch, I'll be waiting to see how it shapes up I guess and maybe get it around Christmas.

Looks like Black Friday sales may go live a little earlier than usual this year.  They went live for Gold members the Friday before Thanksgiving last year.

There are a plethora of bugs. You haven't played enough to see them. The worst one I'm experiencing is my perk packs are popping a level later than they should, and I never got the one for level 8.

You may have still had problems. Scorchbeasts are very dangerous. They are level 50 minimum, and pack a major punch. I run when I see a hostile one. Every post I've seen detailing killing one involved a group that kept respawning on each other when they all died multiple times.

Atoms may be a grindfest. It's too early to tell though. I've got 1100 right now, the last hour of today's beta I ended up completing several challenges worth 40. I didn't go through the challenge list so I have no idea how many I've done already, or how many are still available without Bethesda adding more in, which I bet they will.

Clothing is almost exclusively cosmetic, so they can go over your armor pieces, and so we have a reason to spend Atoms on clothing that does nothing stat wise. The only clothing I've seen that has stats are the two different gas masks that were in Fallout 4, and the Space Helmet. All do -2 perception but prevent airborne and possibly (can't remember) waterborne diseases.

FYI, there is more recorded dialogue in 76 than in any previous Fallout game, maybe even Bethesda game, not sure. There are tons of holotapes to listen to, literally tons. I probably have at least an hour worth of tapes, if not more. That's how Bethesda chose to let players learn about the world. My girlfriend and I haven't missed talking to humanoid NPC's at all.

I'm too busy doing my best not to die that I've never even noticed how my gun acts in VATS, though I've read the same complaint on Reddit. It's another thing I don't actually care about. It took me several Beta sessions before I got the hang of it, and it started getting useful. I finally ditched my melee weapon so I could focus entirely on ranged. I've never noticed any dropped inputs that you described.

Besides some major bugs, the only real complaint I have is the stash limit. 400 lbs fills up quick, even if you religiously scrap all your junk before stashing, and even use the Tinkerer's Bench to make bulk junk. I've offloaded nearly 200 lbs onto a dummy character on my girlfriend's account, it is that bad. I don't even save weapons anymore. It's mostly junk and aid. My power armor parts I can't use yet (Power Armor pieces are level locked) are all on the account, along with more aid and bulk junk. I loved collecting power armor in 4, and had over 80 full suits with in my vault in my last playthrough. In 76, I'm reduced to having one power armor chassis with a full suit of Raider pieces (I can't wait until I hit level 25 so I can rock T-45 and the new Excavator type) on it. At least the pieces and fusion core weigh nothing when they are stored on the frame in my inventory.

Since it's under a spoiler tag hard to comment about it, saw some things that might be of interest to me. The least surprising thing ever though is seeing Saint's Row IV and the Metro Games always perennials. That's not a spoiler.

I just know I personally am not thrilled about having only Holotapes for dialogue. Having a lot of them doesn't change the fact that they are not dynamic and that we as players have no influence on anything, no branching dialogue trees or ways to influence people. Audiologs only is an odd choice in general, if you look at other games (outside of walking simulators) that heavily use them, they're very rarely the only way you interact with a game's story. Think Bioshock, or Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and V, or even Borderlands, while linear games aren't too far removed from this implementation, these examples both flesh out their locations and universes, while generally having at least some connections to the main characters to help you empathize or understand them better, even with a nothing character like Jack in Bioshock. It comes across as a pretty odd choice for a solely RPG developer since it seems like we won't even have any real input into the story, instead doing exactly what we're scripted to do like Destiny or any other game with no role playing aspects, except our character will literally have no personality since they have no input. Bioshock did this for meta reasons, and something like Half-Life 2 plays with this idea by have the other characters sort of joke about how quiet you are. I also have a hard time taking their comment about "most voicelines" or whatever without a grain of salt. Maybe there are technically more, but if our character can't interact with anything then the nuance of different outcomes of conversation is lost. Nothing close to the faction stuff that New Vegas or to a lesser extent 4 had, which could lead to very different experiences. Instead every exchange will be a scripted linear experience.

But yeah, I didn't get to play as much as I was hoping today so the mechanics and bugs you detailed didn't hit me fully in that couple hours.

Finally decided to tryout the online team adventure mode in Horizon. I’m not sure Playground Games did a good job explaining the rules, because people don’t seem to realize it’s team races. If my tag shows as the same color as yours, were on the same team!

Or, more likely, people are just plain stupid.

Hoping that forza 7 somehow ends up on the sale at some point.
Interesting to see what the sale prices will be for odyssey and the new tomb raider.

I mean the roster screen to start tells you you are on COLOR team and how to score points but I swear people just think it is still like FH3 without the last place person trying to win by drifting the whole race. So yes the latter part of your post is pretty accurate.

Anyone played No Man’s Sky? I see it’s on sale at Best Buy this week. Not going to buy it physically since I game share with my fiancé, but if it happened to drop to $30 digitally this week I might consider it (make it happen, Bloomy!). Just curious if anyone has experience with it and could recommend and/or dissuade a purchase. Thanks, all!
No man sky is 50% harvesting 40% exploring and 10% killing. Only reason you kill anything is for a specific mineral organic life gives and sentinels also give a specific mineral only they have once you've killed them. The game builds you up to explore different types of systems by upgrading your ships engine drive and you only need to upgrade it 3 times as the last drive (emerald drive) allows access red blue and green systems. Buying upgrades for your space suit or ship stack if you put them near each other like jet pack booster upgrade stacks 3 times and you have to put it next to the jet pack icon in your inventory for optimal performance. You can upgrade your inventory slot once every time you go to a new space station. There's a max of 40 slots for basic inventory space or you can upgrade your larger slots that hold 500 minerals per slot compared to the 150 in basic inventory. The larger slots also max out of 40 slots so you have 40 slots that can hold 500 minerals each. You can literally hold more than a star ship. Star ships have a rarity from D C B A S. S class ships are the best in a sense compared to exotic ships. Exotic ships are unique looking and have the best hyper drive stock or upgraded. You can only have 1 capital ship in the game but can create a frigate of smaller ships to follow you and there's different kinds of frigate ships like explorer, medical, military or something that's good at fighting and mining frigates. You can send them out to go mine a system and choose which frigates you wanna send out. Frigates also have rarity all the way up to S rank. If they hadn't fixed the dupe glitch that made the game less grindy I'd say get it but now that there's noway to dupe stacks of items Idk if you'd enjoy mining and slowly building up resources to make something and then go back and get some more. Duping cut down the time drastically to get anywhere in the game. It was super fun building and buying anything in the game at anytime. Now the game is just kinda eh without the dupe glitch.

I had some schmuck on my team purposely crash me the other day. It was in the seasonal adventure thing or whatever it is. Once I hit level 5 in Adventure and maybe qualified for ranked I can't see me going back to this mode. Too many morons online in this game.

Hey my free three months of Game Pass came up on Bing. Well, I'll just add that to the backlog as well for one day getting around to...

The update they released for No Man's Sky last week improves the underwater aspects and actually looks really cool. If it comes in at the right price on the holiday sale I'm going to have to give it a chance. As much as it got maligned on release the developers seem to keep putting out new content.

https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/10/no-mans-sky-the-abyss-release/
I haven't followed the game's or dev's story too closely, but it's amazing to see how much effort they've put into the game after it flopped hardcore from the empty promises. Hopefully the game continues to evolve.

There is always Cheat Engine, you can manually adjust the value held in memory for your credits/items, but be careful as this level of cheating can kill your motivation of actually exploring/playing. I'll say I played a decent amount of this game before ever using Cheat Engine, but once freighters were added in and I was staring down the cost of them, I decided I'd rather not grind for the cash and just gave myself enough money for one so I could play that content. That game is still an awesome experience, and can be super relaxing which is what I mostly play it as these days.

Yes, I posted it in the Microsoft Rewards Program thread about 2 months ago. I gift points out of my kids or wifes account to put in mine, since we game share with Gold and Pass.

After shaking my head and dogging this game for months because I "preferred adult games like PUBG", my friend and I finally gave Battle Royale a try and the speed at which this game moves is insane compared to PUBG. Matches are full instantly, if you die you have like 2 minutes before you are dropping again. Firefights are all mostly close range, "who can build the highest ramps fastest". PUBG on XBOX takes 6 minutes just to find a match. Then you are hunting for gear for 30 minutes and get sniped from across a field, then another 6 minutes to get another match.

I'm a convert. I feel bad as a Microsoft fan since they invested in PUBG so heavily, but Fortnite is just a faster more entertaining play experience IMO. I'm not gonna lie, I also now want to buy a stupid skin of my stupid football team because I am stupid.

Play FH4, its a blast, haven't played anything else in the last 2 weeks chasing achievements.
Forza Horizon 1-3 (and all their respective achievement based DLC) are in my backlog. I Feel I gotta go through them first before I go into Forza Horizon 4, otherwise how will I understand the deep storyline and why my character needs new pants instead of a car?

Also I started Watch Dogs 2 this weekend. God bless open world games where a couple of goons got to watch over a briefcase or bag outdoors instead of just going into the comfort and safety of indoors.

Goddammit, I always miss out on these. fuck!
This dennis dude always has weird rules; at least, he didn't ask us to like his post, thank gawd.
:(

Dennis if you still have one I would like to check it out, if not NBD

Nevermind, I just checked the play times and I won't be home for either of them :(

FH4 is a great game, and I've only played the first one on 360, but it feels so similar to the original that I don't get as absorbed into it, I feel kinda been there, done that. I felt that same way about every Pokemon game after the original, even with years in between them.

Speaking of open worlds, Dead Rising 3 is still keeping me busy and time kinda melts away. RDR2 arrived but for the same reason, I'm afraid to start it. Plus, the gf wants to be present when I do.

I wasn't sure I'd like it myself until I played it. But I find I'm having a fun time trying to figure out what happened everywhere I go. It's going to be awhile before we see how factions are going to affect the story in 76. Even though the people are gone, you can still join the factions, so who knows how it will play out in the end.

I completed a challenge yesterday, explore Appalachia for 24 hours. So I've seen and experienced quite a bit. Still haven't entered two of the six Biomes yet though. So much more to see and explore.

It starts out very similar to the others, but after level 20 they added some new stuff which has made it more fun and interesting.

Well, it seems Xbox kinda dodged a bullet with "The Quiet Man" being PC and PS4 only. And to think I actually ranted about Square Enix snubbing Xbox at E3 for that game (and Babylon's Fall) only days after announcing Nier Automata for XB1 and saying they wanted their games available for everyone, regardless of platform of choice. JA!

Imagine Phil's meeting with Square Enix when he went to Japan to get publishers to put their games on Xbox One. Perhaps he had just finished up with Capcom agreeing to put Monster Hunter: World on the platform, then he strolled in to SE and they agreed to eventually bring Nier: Automata over. ...Then they showed him Quiet Man.

Phil, immediately: "Oh, pass. PASS !!!!"

I see this a lot, too, people on your own team hitting you in races, knocking you out of checkpoints, etc. Based on my own slow brain, I think it's a combination of things. For some, they just don't care. But I also think the team concept is never really explained well. It took me two+ races before I realized how the scoring worked. I just jumped in assuming it's like PvE where only our personal performance mattered.

Then there's the concept of red vs. blue, which also trips me up in Rocket League, tbh. In one game, you'll be blue so you're focused on helping blues and knocking out reds. Then the next game it puts you on the other color, but my slow mind is still focused on knocking out reds even though I'm now on the red team. It takes me half the race or maybe the whole race (when I see the scoreboard and realize I'm on the red team) to get it. Don't understand why all games don't just make you one color and the enemy is always another color, and just call the teams A and B instead of red and blue. Like in Call of Duty, the minimap always shows the enemy as red marks, no matter which team you're on. I prefer this method for all games.

On top of that, I also get tripped up by the color of the cars themselves. So I mentally tell myself to help blues and knock out reds. Then I see a red colored car trying to pass me and I instinctively try to knock it out of the checkpoint. But that red colored car is actually on the blue team, on my team. Lol.

Not sure if you've tried Call of Duty's Blackout battle royale mode during the beta, but your reaction is similar to how I felt when I played Blackout. PUBG is way too slow. Fortnite is a bit over the top (with things like rocket riding, the build anywhere concept, etc.). Blackout sits perfectly in the middle -- fast, fun, entertaining, but with a good amount of realism and strategy involved.

Still enjoying RDR 2, but I may be one of the few who actually wishes it was like the first two hours. I kind of like the guided story thing and it got pretty intense. Know some missions will get there though.
