Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Beat my 3rd game in the last few days which is probably as many as I’ve beat all year. Probably only guy on the planet that played these 3 games this week.

Telltales Guardians of the Galaxy (meh)
Red Faction Armageddon (really good for an old action shooter. Probably would have loved it 10 years ago).
Played those pretty through in the last week.
AC Origins was my big finish clocking in at around 41 hours. (Seriously HLTB shows under 30 hours. Don’t see how.)

I’ve still got tons of side missions etc I could do in Origins but have Gold Edition Odessey in the backlog. What do you guys think- hang with Origins or dive into Odessey while it’s still relevant?
Stick with Origins if you haven't done the DLC; otherwise, I'd suggest moving on to Odyssey and playing as Kassandra. One side mission I recommend doing in Origins before you leave it is "The Flea of Cyrene," if you haven't completed it yet.

So I'm guessing from the lack of Simpsons at E3 news that it wasn't for games, but so much as remind people that they're somehow still on the air.

Includes all the benefits of Xbox Live Gold

Did it always say 2-4 free games?

Second this, Origins was great, I'd say do the side missions like the Phylakes and some of the tomb stuff if you haven't already, then move on to Odyssey. I still haven't finished Odyssey, that game is crazy big.

I loved Origins, but Odyssey all the way. I have put in 130+ hours on it at this point and still love it. Give it a go. You can always come back to Origins.

The DLC was decent for origins if the season pass is on sale. I fell off of odyssey but enjoyed the roughly 5 hours I played, want to jump back in.

I got all achievements for origins, including DLC, and my tracker is at 96 hours. Progression is only 89% though so the HLTB time must be doing just the story with only enough side stuff to progress.

Correct. Tapped Out Royale and their take on Fort Nite.

It really was a retrospective panel like something out of Comic Con. It sucks that they had to go dark for a while so they can air a video games montage for the audience goers. Would have been nice for everyone to see it.
So much for The Simpsons hit and run remake or sequel. Oh well. That's why they are rumors.

Bonk or GTFO!

Not sure why or if it’s been mentioned but it looks like the OG Xbox games: Sid Meier’s Pirates and Fuzion Frenzy have been delisted
Since backwards compatibility has ended on Xbox One, the new CAG race will be buying games before they are delisted. Are delisted games a bad sign of what will be available on Scarlett? Or is it just standard practice and they will be relisted later?

What if the real thing they're working on is full 360 Emulation for Scarlet? Just pop in your disc or have any download ready to play? I know, probably not, but what if?
After seeing what can be done with Xbox One X enhancements would anyone want basic emulation anymore? It will/should be the new standard on Scarlett to enhance texture filtering, resolution, and frame rates of old games. Even the current base Xbox Ones up the quality of 360 games to a degree. At this point it would be a step backwards to just do a 360 emulator.

I’d like to know if the Gold page actually did say 2-4 games previously because technically if you only had a 360 and Gold, you would only get 2 games even now.

It looks like the E3 MixPot rewards are still coming in:

Gems of War - Dwarven Avatar Pack

Better than a kick in the nards.  Maybe there will be more?

You could get the X1 games with only a 360 if you used the website. People that hadn't picked a one up yet could build their GwG catalog in advance of the purchase. Still technically only 2 playable games but you're getting all 4.

Can't remember if I've seen the 2-4 before though. Most sites with GwG info weren't helpful but the games with gold subreddit, in text and not an official ms post, says 4 games a month.

I thought that you lost some of your months of Gold by exchanging them for Ultimate Game Pass. Also, I don't even have $1 on my Xbox Live account at the moment in order to do that, and I refuse to add my debit card to any online gaming service since PSN and Xbox Live have both been hacked before.
Can someone correct me or add additional info if needed?

You would lose any banked time over 36 months (max you can convert) or you would get the prorated amount if you add more time after you convert. If you currently don't have 35 months banked, extend your Gold to 35 months if you can get a deal and then convert to GP Ultimate for $1. You'll get a month of GP Ultimate for a $1 and your 35 months will convert to GP Ultimate giving you the maximum of 36 months of GPU, so 36 months of GamePass for free.

Convert using this link: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass?&OCID=AID644966_SEM_258npGHk#join and scroll down to "Choose the Plan that's Right for You."

As for your debit card. I believe you can buy a $10 Xbox Gift Card and use that to pay for GPU.

I’d like to know if the Gold page actually did say 2-4 games previously because technically if you only had a 360 and Gold, you would only get 2 games even now.
You could get the X1 games with only a 360 if you used the website. People that hadn't picked a one up yet could build their GwG catalog in advance of the purchase. Still technically only 2 playable games but you're getting all 4.
You can also get the X1 GwG on the 360 using the same page the 360 GwG is displayed. I've done this a few times soon after X1 GwG were added.

Has anyone been able to get the 5 points for pre-ordering Gears 5 on the X1 MS Rewards page? This wouldn't check off for me.

Did you actually preorder?

I tried 3 times but figured its cause I wasn’t actually preordering.

The 5 points for Gears is busted at the moment, doesn't seem to be working for anyone.

Then buy a longer cord. I'm rocking 10 foot cords for PS3 and PS4 thanks to Monoprice. Only a few dollars each with free shipping.
I don't recall mentioning cord length as the issue. I have USB extension cables that could have my controller connected 50 feet away if I wanted to. I don't. It's 2019, not 1999 where cords are required to play games on a console. I also have this thing called a girlfriend, and this girlfriend likes these things called cats, so I have three assholes cats running amok around my house all day. I've already replaced enough stuff they broke, I'm not replacing a broken elite controller or worse, a broken X because they ran into the cord. Not to mention one of them absolutely loves eating USB cables. He alone has cost me close to $100 in USB cables, and I do get them cheap from Monoprice so that tells you just how many I've replaced in four years. So, in the end, Microsoft will never get me to purchase a v2 Elite because they chose to have a non replaceable battery instead of giving consumers the option like they have before. But that's just me, clearly there are people perfectly fine not having a replaceable battery.

I may also be salty because my phone battery that isn't removable won't charge above 86% for the last month now, so I have to buy a new phone, or pay a repair place more money than I should to repair a three year old phone that I should have been able to just replace myself in 5 seconds. Nobody will ever convince me non replaceable batteries in electronic devices is a good thing.

Epic might have just killed the daily login rewards for Fortnite if you Gameshare the paid mode. I had an error pop up upon login, and I see a few threads about it on the Reddit. This sucks because every week you got free V-Bucks. Apparently an exploit of sorts was spread a week or two ago, using the extra V-bucks from a gameshared account to gift your main account with stuff, so they think that might be why. We'll probably know if it was a mistake within a few days, but I know there was a hotfix for the game on the other side to remove the Boom Bow from Team Rumble today, so it may have been snuck in there.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FORTnITE/comments/bzlrob/bug_game_requires_purchase_check_failure_on_xbox/

It sucks if this is the case, I guess I'll finally buy it for my own account the next time it's on sale, hopefully in a few weeks for the anniversary. For now, you can still play the entire game and complete the daily challenges and anything else to get V-bucks, just not the login bonus.

I can't get those 200 points for installing a gamepass game from the mobile app since I gameshare. Says I have to set my Xbox as default. I guess I could do that and tell my friend to do the process all over again but it's working fine now so not worth the 200 points.

You just have to change which Xbox it’s set to download to from the app, there should be a little gear in the corner you can change it with

I saw the gear but thought that meant I would be changing my home xbox because with gameshare, you reverse it. Do you gameshare and have done this and nothing happened?

Yeah I gameshare with my son and I just changed it to download on the Xbox I was currently logged into and it worked, I’m pretty sure that’s why some people were having problems because it was trying to download to the home Xbox rather then where they were logged into.

Plus I’m pretty sure you can only change your home Xbox once every 6 months or twice a year or some shit, I can’t remember cause I haven’t did it in years but you definitely don’t wanna do all that.

I'm more upset that they waited until people tuned in via Mixer, watched the live stream and then said "here's your crumbs". I was going to watch but maybe later on in the day. My morbid curiosity got the better of me for the mixpot

For those that might be redeeming 3-month Gold codes for Gamepass Ultimate. Even though it says a 3-month Gold code will be converted to 1-month of Gamepass Ultimate, it is actually converting it to between 51 and 52 days of Gamepass Ultimate. Not bad ...

If you're asking about Surge, the drink, at BK then yes, it is real. And, it tastes much worse than you remember but retains that radioactive green color.
To me, it tastes *just* like I remember from college and it's still fuck ing great! It's been my go to BK soda. The 'cherry' Surge though, tastes like ass. Not a fan at all.

I finally got to try hollow knight thanks to gamepass and it feels very much like steamworld dig. Go down and back for supplies, exploring, filling out map. Almost a clone, minus the mining of course. Does it diversify beyond this?

Whoever decided to make a separate thread for the GPU deal, THANK YOU.  It's literally the same people asking the same questions over and over again lol.

Unexpectedly taking the day off today, so I'm gonna get some Panzer Dragoon Orta in

edit: no no no... I need to play the Division 2.  Purchased the Gold Steelbook at launch and I've only done the first campaign mission :( .  Same thing for Wildlands.  Maybe I just need to stop buying games at launch or something

Hey TV nerds, I'm probably buying a larger TV. Still not all-in on 4k, but since the X1S supports HDR, I'm looking at options. May eventually get an X1X or inevitably, Scarlett, and probably won't buy a new TV for a long time.

Currently have the TCL 43" 4 Series. I like it just fine, it could be a little fancier. Tom's Guide says the 5 series is the best 4k TV under $500. Leaning towards the 55" TCL 5 Series (currently $380 at Best Buy). Is the difference in 5 and 6 series worth the extra money? A friend said she'd buy my 43" for $200 so that'll bring my cost down too.

With the recent removal of all the Tell Tale games and the multiple other digital games that have been removed over the generation is any one else feeling a little leary about buying digital and starting to lean back into buying discs?  Starting to think digital is fine for games that im not overly excited about but anything i really want and want to keep may be a disc from now on.  Im sure for most games they will be there and stay on the digital store front and the digital sales can be great sometimes but no can take a disc away from me cause the music license is no longer valid.

6 series is 499.99 rn at bestbuy I’ve had the tv since launch and it’s great. Not sure the differences tbh I know all the settings on my Xbox one x are checked off with the 6 series.

The best tv under $500 is the TCL 6 Series- r617 , nothing comes close to the features unless you spend another $300 .

The TCL 5 series is still mostly "fake HDR" since it can't get that bright, but it is better than the 4 series. If you can spring for the 6 series, it does real, full-blown HDR with about triple the brightness of the 5-series, plus it has local dimming so the contrast will be better.

Tell Tale is also making the discs worthless, so people with physical medial will be unable to play the games if they did not download the content before the deadline.

Say you upgrade or have to replace your console, the physical media is useless after the cutoff date. It's a brave new world.

Since you specifically called out HDR, there is literally going to be a night and day difference between the 5 and the 6 series. 6 series is when TCL finally started using back lit panels for HDR instead of side lit on the 5 series. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/tcl-r617-vs-tcl-s517/613/619

Do people really play with the brightness turned up to max or near max settings or is that how HDR works? my 08 1080p lcd Samsung I have brightness to 7/10 and backlight 7/10 otherwise any higher and it's too damn bright and hurts the eyes.

The point of HDR is the capability to have a very wide range of brightness, so that you can have a normal scene but have a portion of it be extremely bright (the sun in the sky is a perfect example). Properly-implemented HDR does not mean that the whole screen is blindingly bright.

I've noticed that regular SDR mode often defaults to being obnoxiously bright on HDR sets; they should be adjusted/calibrated to something more reasonable. But unfortunately a lot of people probably leave them in "torch mode". This might even reduce the life of the set, but I don't have any hard evidence of that.

the telltale situation on the xbox marketplace is an anomaly. i wouldn't plan my future out of fear of it happening again.

a typical delisting scenario allows people who previously purchased the game to continue downloading it. if you paid for it, you can still access it.

Not really because a tell tale disc is about as useful as an AOL starter cd. Telltale is a unique situation where it's actually getting removed from the servers where it can't be downloaded anymore, and that happens very rarely. Off the top of my head I can think of PT on the Playstation 4, maybe that horrible movie tie in Ben-Hur game on the Xbox. Even stuff that get's removed for sale because of the "music license" like the older Forza games can still be downloaded if you have the digital rights. More worried about stuff that won't work at all because of a server gets shutdown like is going on with the Ouya, and that's not going to matter if you have a disc or digital. Thankfully those are fairly rare. The old Xbox Arcade avatar thing on the 360 doesn't work anymore even though you can download your game "packs" but even things they pulled the plug on like Project Spark still have most of their functionality. With the 3 years of Ultimate I have, the even more GamePass launch announcements at E3, and the addition of Game Pass for PC to Ultimate (The Messenger is on there btw) I don't see myself going back to physical very often.
