Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Yeah I don't understand how people can keep playing the same activities. I was a day one Destiny 1 player. It was fine at the start because this was all new to me. Never played a grindy game before. Then a month into Destiny 2, I got tired of it all. Doing the same few strikes and same public events just to level up. So mindless. Even when everyone kept saying Forsaken improved D2, when I read up on the new changes, it was all related to grinding so I passed. I'm done with D2. They need to change things up drastically for D3, if there is ever one, to even tempt me.
At this point, there are so many different activities that it isn't hard to keep it fresh:

Strikes

Heroic Story Missions (apparently no rewards though)

Nightfall (apparently no rewards though)

Nightfall: The Ordeal (lots of rewards)

Forges

Reckoning

Menagerie

Vex Offensive

Nightmare Hunts

Gambit / Gambit Prime

Crucible (lots of different playlists)

Patrol zones with Adventures / Patrols / Public Events / just running around killing aliens

Raids

And initially the best way to improve your power level is to do a little bit of everything every week, but frequently I find myself just running around some place mindlessly shooting things in the face because the gun-play is so enjoyable. I found a hand cannon on the moon that likes to launch dead enemies several meters into the air when they die, and THAT is a lot of fun.

About the grindy nature of the game - it's officially been labeled as an MMO, and I don't have a lot of experience with MMOs in general but I think they are ALL grindy. In fact, when D2 launched it was targeted at "casuals" that don't care for that kind of gaming but since then Bungie has swung the pendulum back to being a deeper experience and now with Shadowkeep and Armor 2.0 and WAY more armor mods they are jumping more into the RPG elements that the game has flirted with over the last two years, so I wouldn't except the pendulum to swing back to less grindy for a loooong time (if ever).

I've been having fun with Destiny since the F2P transition. I stopped right when Curse of Osiris came out, so there is a huge amount of new content for be between the two free expansions and first year of seasonal content being free. I think I'm going to buy Foresaken since it's $25, but $35 seems high for the seemingly lower amount of content in Shadowkeep. As far as I can see there isn't an option to buy JUST Shadowkeep, only the $35 that comes with the "bonus" current battle pass season that can otherwise be bought separately for $10 of Silver.

I guess I'll see if I'm interested enough to keep bothering with the seemingly highly priced newest expansion model or not. The grind itself doesn't really bother me as that is what the game is about. D2 at launch had a lot of problems that kind of compounded on each other, but the lack of content was one of the bigger issues, leading to the repetition feeling much worse that it did in D1.
So what you get with the $35 purchase of Shadowkeep is:

Access to the Story content for Shadowkeep

Access to the Season Pass and Seasonal Activities of whatever season in which you start playing.

The $60 purchase gives you some "bonus content" in an emblem, emote, and exotic ghost shell, and also three more Season Passes that give you access to the Seasonal Activities for three future seasons. That being said, if they don't release any story content similar to Shadowkeep over the next year, that sounds like we would start being light on content. No plans have been announced yet for future story content, but there is plenty of time to figure that out.

I think I was like 75% through the main story for vanilla D2 when I fell off after launch.
If I jump back in will I basically be the new light level and be able to pick up where I left off?
I THINK that since you didn't complete that particular story, your progress might have been wiped when Y3 launched. If you're curious, check with Amanda in the Hangar of the Tower.

I'm glad you did because I was going to buy shadowkeep to give destiny another chance but nope. I rather not grind shitty content with the 1 hour I get in of gaming a night.

On the other hand. I'm playing Surge 2 and it's probably my current game of the year. So good.
The grind is shitty. The content is good (sometimes buggy). Big difference.

There were some not-so-great words people had to say about Surge 1. What did the devs change about the game to improve it?

The asking price is a bit high so I'll wait for a sale (unless a glut of promotional X-bux suddenly becomes available).

Has anyone run these games with a controller? If so, how are they?
I'm pretty excited about this, but I'm seeing conflicting reports about whether online multiplayer is supported. Anyone know the real answer?

I THINK that since you didn't complete that particular story, your progress might have been wiped when Y3 launched. If you're curious, check with Amanda in the Hangar of the Tower.

The grind is shitty. The content is good (sometimes buggy). Big difference.

There were some not-so-great words people had to say about Surge 1. What did the devs change about the game to improve it?
Thanks for always providing detailed info on Destiny 2 man. Doing God's work. You do a better job at explaining this than the damn developer.

I didn't really play more than like 30 mins is Surge 1 so can't really compare. I like the nature of being able to target enemy parts to destroy to upgrade my own gear. Difficulty is spot on and the fighting feels tight.

Performance does suck and there can be some serious slowdowns but it's still worth a play. I'm on an Xbox one X.

I played all weekend an am addicted.

ACA Baseball Stars 2 is the best NEO GEO baseball game of the three or four that are available. I say it's even close to RBI Baseball 19. A steal at 3.99 which is the lowest they have been.
Thanks for the info. I also wasn't sure and I've never placed an ACA game before, but love baseball. For $4, I'll bite

I'm pretty excited about this, but I'm seeing conflicting reports about whether online multiplayer is supported. Anyone know the real answer?
What about the game is MP? Can multiple people control different party members?

The product page mentions all these things and doesn't mention any type of MP:

microsoft.com said:

I went to Beamdog's webpage and found the announcement trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERLBR3VDSlA

It doesn't mention anything about MP (probably not the best source) but it does mention that Planescape: Torment and the Icewind Dale games ALSO released yesterday. I didn't see a tweet from The Major but those games are also available as a bundle for $49.99. IWD has the same presentation as BG except it tones down the story part and focuses on that sweet sweet combat and phat lewt, and anyone that even remotely likes this type of RPG should (nay, MUST) play Planescape Torment.

I only wish these games were available individually so I wouldn't feel so bad about buying them at full price and feel like I was swallowing the whole cake at once...

EDIT:

No MP (for now at least) --> https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/comment/1100301/#Comment_1100301

We are only at 16/50 on “CAG XBD”. CheapAssGamers XBox Deals on Gears Pop, feel free to join if you check in on it from time to time. I’m working on 100% those achievements lol.
Thanks for the reminder. Just joined so now the member count is up to 20. I sign on every night to see the new characters you can get in their store to level up your pins. Usually play a game or two then

Sucks DOOM and Halo Wars 1 are leaving Game Pass. Count me in as another person who finds it odd a 1st party Microsoft title like HW1 is gone from GP

Darn. Yes, the PC version has multiplayer that allows different players to control different sets of party members.

I was one of those lucky CAGs that had my name called last year. Fortunately, I have not developed a Pavlovian response to the Taco Bell sound every time my console turns on.

So then I'm guessing Darksiders 2 is leaving even though they removed that one from "Leaving soon..." also? I know MS is a big company but the Xbox GamePass Twitter always seems to be full of confusion, they had the 10K in 10 days last month all screwed up also.

Thanks for always posting these and all the information needed to enter. I usually end up doing the free entries because of you.

The only times I won anything from Taco Bell was when they had ps3 game download code prizes. I also earned a $75 gamestop gift card for playing that bmx game app.

I redeemed my free month of ultimate for finishing the “Space Walk Quest” but my expiration date doesn’t appear to have extended and it doesn’t show any kind of redemption in my billing tracking... 😓

Did they email the code?

Edit: found it in the redeem section it’s also not showing in my purchases either. I believe my subscription is showing the right amount of time though since it extended me into april

My younger brother won an Original Xbox from Taco Bell back around 2001.
I won the Xbox One X bundle 2 years ago.
Had a buddy win the PSVR bundle last year.

I wasn't really interested in the Xbox brand until I watched my brother play. I really liked the demo for Rallisport Challenge. Seeing an Extended Play episode for Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and hearing that Shenmue II would finally come to America on the system sold me on it.

Yeah, sure. It was because she kicks high.

I got the reference right away. I was 20 when the original Xbox launched and was basically both of those guys in one. DOA was probably my favorite fighting series of that era. Mostly because it was accessible to people who were bad at fighting games like me, but also, you know, she kicks high

Yeah I double checked where i was at before I hit the thing to complete it and it didn't extend my date at all. Perhaps they send out codes later or add it when the promotion is done... I hope? My 1500 points did redeem right away so I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

Did you guys check Redeem tab on MS Rewards page to see if you had a tile for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 1 month reward listed as 0 points?

That's where I got my free month* of XGPU after completing Cosmic Rescue punch card.  My sub did extend and show up under rewards order history as well.

* Actually 2 months since it prompted me to enable auto renew and gave me extra month for doing so.

Just came here to say this they e-mailed me the code as well and it turned into two months for turning auto renew on

Credit goes to Reddit but here is the free code for a chance to win an xbox on the taco bell contest

Has anybody that has finished the cosmic quest had the double mobile points activated? I completed it a few days ago and everything else activated except for the double points.

Interesting. So the free code accidentally went live today, and a bunch of people on reddit won overnight because it's the first day of the contest. Looks like they shut down the free code now, but thats crazy.

Just checked Bing Rewards.  The old Skype Hot Deal has disappeared, but there is no replacement.  Will we see one appear?  Did one already show up and get bought up from other territories?  Tune in next time on Dragonball Z!

My mistake they did end up sending an email with a code for the space walk quest, my wife noticed after I also finished the quest line for her... one cool thing is if you allow them to turn on instant sub renewal they give you another month on top of it...which worked for both her and my codes...(added 4 months of ultimate then I turned the auto sub back off) so I’m good until 2/24/2022! :)

Silly thing with these quest rewards, while they're meant as an incentive, I end up holding back from playing gamepass games in case they're soon part of a new quest. And we don't have weekly sets over here.

Yep and sometimes they don’t put up a quest involving said game til 2 months later.

Kinda disappointing cause it kills my initial excitement for the game being added.

I’m not expecting gift cards to be the hot deal this month unless they do ms gift card/Xbox gift card 2 months in a row going off them having a holiday deal on them starting in November the past few years.

I’m hoping it’s 7000 for $10 again, but who remembers a couple years back when they accidentally put them up for 500 points/$5 1000 points/$10.

I wish I was into ms rewards harder back then cause I only ended up with $25 worth lol.

Ahh, that was a night. I remember I snatched up as many as I could. Of course, that was also when they sent codes for that stuff, so of course I cashed out my wife's account too.

Does the Grubbins on Ice DLC for Costume Quest ever go on sale?  I just finished the game and it was pretty fun and of course very appropriate for the season!

I think I'm still working through my credit from that night... Also loaded up from my wife's account, and I don't think the credit had a 90-day expiration back then either.

I'll take MS/Xbox credit or 12-month codes personally, I can give those out to friends for Christmas. Hope something pops up soon.
