This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

If you're trading in DNF you are going to get like a quarter.

imo I'd go for the convenience of digital if you have the HDD space.

I wish Duke Nukem 3-D was on sale instead. If I had more hard drive space, I would get Duke Nukem Forever.

That being said, how are Far Cry Instincts Predator (is this the first game?) and Far Cry 2? I have Blood Dragon which I liked.
I was extremely disappointed in both games. Far cry instincts has not aged well at all, and far cry 2 isn't nearly on the same level as far cry 3. It also gets quite tedious after a while.

Tempted by Spec Ops even though I own it on disc. It was used when I bought it before, so I could justify this purchase, right?

Anyone who has not played (the first) Bioshock, please get it and put it at the top of your "priorities".

How does that justify it? Unless your used copy doesn't work and you're actually going to play it, there's no reason to buy another copy.

I think that the justification is likely due to the concept of "patronage". Buying a used copy of a video game does not actually support the developers and publishers of said game, even though the vast majority of the time you still have functionally the same experience. If I really like a game or developer immensely, I will often buy it on more than one platform as a way of expressing the sentiment that I want more games like this to be developed. Some people also like having digital copies of video games on their hard drives so that they have the convenience of not having to load a disc in and out.

If you have time to replay a linear game on CAG after beating months prior or whatever, you're doing it wrong. Plus hard drive space is becoming more and more stupid scarce with the sales now going past the 50% mark and I doubt $7.49 is going to make a world of difference for 2K and the developers in making more of the game after over a year past it's release. I Think buying the FUBAR DLC makes more of a difference as opposed to buying a game that's been marked down over 80%.

Spec Ops is a great game though. I loved it and recommend it as it is one of the best shooter games and unlike all the others, it has a great story. Beat it 4 times to 1K it and plat it.  :whee:

beating Spec Ops on the its hardest difficulty setting was a bitch, dude. That last chapter was goddamn unreal. I still have no idea how I got past it. Pure luck and some skill, I guess.

Game is easy once you know where people spawn and what weapons are where. Didn't find it bad at all. That last part was annoying but you just have to headshot the people on the turrets, other than that its not exceedingly difficult.

Bioshock is my favorite game of all time. If you haven't played it yet, would you kindly do yourself a favor and purchase it? And if you decide to pick up Bioshock 2 (which you should) make sure you get Minerva's den. Best story DLC I've ever played.

What is the verdict on Far cry 2?
Terrible, it's more like a glorious tech demo than anything else. Crappy story missions, repetitive side quests, lack of proper fast travel system, bullet sponge enemies (on medium difficulty it takes one AK-47 clip to kill a single dude) malaria infection is pointless and is one of the many bad design decisions for that game.

Tedium from start to finish.

Get FC3 and Blood Dragon instead, if you still haven't done that.

Still not sure about Spec-ops - the gameplay in demo version was completely mediocre and yawn inducing.

I am tempted to pick up Bioshock 1 & 2 but I've never played either of those. $5 seems like a good price to jump into the series.
Also thinking about Mafia 2, I don't know how it holds up though (or how all three games hold up).

Although I do have $15, I could pick up all of them, but I don't know how I feel about it.
Dude, you need BioShock 1 & 2.

If you go for Spec Ops, make sure to check out all 3 endings.
Four.

-------------

I also recommend Spec Ops but I wasn't that crazy about it. I felt it was good but not great. If it's a story you're hearing for the first time, I'd imagine it is much better.

Finally picking up Bioshock. Can't wait.

Really wish Microsoft would let you access a list of games you own digitally but don't have downloaded. I'm deleting left and right these days.

I pin all my digital games to help remember what I've purchased.

Does anyone know if the marketplace copy of Enemy Within includes Enemy Unknown, like the commander edition hard copy does?

That's not a bad idea. However, I don't think I have used the pin function since they day it went live. I pinned Netflix and still just go the the TV/Movies tab and access it from there. lol.

To check my games, I usually go to the hard drive and look at the save files.

Wishing I didn't bean dive XCom: Enemy Unknown last year. If not for that, I'd just sell that disc and pick up Enemy Within for $20 no questions asked. Since I did however, I feel I need to at least play Enemy Unknown at least once or twice before I can justify Enemy Within.

Also, Duke Nukem is tempting. Only missing two achievements in that game for the 1k, but a lack of hard drive space is making me hold off. Plus I remember trying the harder difficulty when I was renting it (but not having time to finish) and thought it was BS where the game isn't harder, the enemies just become more bullet spongey.

Mafia 2 is a great ride for $5 for anyone on the fence. Probably won't replay but for a focused single player campaign, the story is intense and just like what you'd expect in a mafia movie.

Soooooo,,, Buy it and stop the download. Re-Download when you're ready to play?
The only thing I can think of but be to transfer my videos to another drive which would give me 14 GB's of extra space. I remember talk of putting stuff on a flash drive, but can you also put content on a portable hard drive? And are those games worth buying?

Guess not. I played an hour trial of Far Cry 2 years ago on PS3. It wasn't bad but it didn't grab me enough to purchase it right away.

Is Far Cry 3 a stand alone title?

Remember those crappy $10 Spec Ops games on PS1? Specs Ops: The Line is NOT like that and is actually worth playing. It's like Call of Duty in the desert.

I have Mafia 2 and will probably go for the digital version. I was surprised they included
issues of Playboy throughout the game
. I bet people replayed the game just to find them all.

Picked up Mafia 2. Is the DLC an easy skip? With it being the same price as the full game right now, I'd suspect so.

I played through Spec Ops when it was free on PS+ and I would not recommend it for the price. The shooting is just okay (borderline bad when there are lots of enemies gunning for you) and the story thinks that it is much more clever than it is. I've heard people argue that the bad/bland shooting was intentional because of the "message" they were trying to communicate... pretty ridiculous.

I picked up the main game last night, been reading up on reviews of the DLC and the consensus seems to be that Joe's Adventure is the better of the two, but neither are such great shakes.

Some decent games on sale although I own all the ones I'm interested in already.  I don't care how much DNF gets shit on by everyone, I enjoyed that game.  Although I picked it up for like $3 a year or two ago so $5 today really isn't a good deal.

I have already played, finished both Bioshocks and I regret returning the second one to Gamestop after I beat it. It's just as good as the first and I'm down to buy it at this price and I'll get the dlc.

About Far Cry. The second one is fun until you get bored doing the same crap over and over again. Far Cry 3 is one of the best games ever especially because it has such a good story unlike Far Cry 2. I've played through Far Cry 3 at least 3 times. Blood Dragon is fun too.

Yes, it is exactly the same as the hard copy (and it is awesome).
No on console they're totally seperate games with seperate achievements, campaign, & multiplayer.

Only on PC does Enemy Within let you choose if you do the original or new campaigns.

We got a new thread : )

I do like the mark downs especially on Bioshock 1&2

but when I click on FarCry2 & Blood Dragon it is still at its original price : /

That's right. The Commander Edition (a.k.a. console edition) is the original XCOM: Enemy Unknown with the expansion material already mixed in. You can't play the original XCOM: Enemy Unknown without all the new added stuff, but you don't need to own a separate copy of EU to play EW (like you do on PC, where you need to own the original EU in order to play EW). I think ethreet just wanted to know if the digital download was the same as the hard copy "Commander Edition" (which it is; all console copies are the "Commander Edition").

So, EU is included in EW in that you don't have to already own EU to play EW (but you can't play vanilla EU without EW, it will have the extra stuff already added in).

So is it worth keeping EU if you buy EW? Those of you who've had both versions on the console, do you ever go back and play vanilla EU?

So far, I haven't gone back to play vanilla EU (and I don't think I ever really would want to now that I have EW), but I don't really ever sell back/trade in my games and I want to keep it around in case I ever want to play multiplayer with someone who only has EU (like several of my friends who haven't upgraded to EW yet).

So what is the differences with the two XCOM games? Is one just bonus content and still has the other or is it almost an entire new game?

Some sites are reporting that Far Cry Classic will be in the Far Cry collection coming out in February. Checked about 10 news sites and they are all over the place about which games it will come with and which consoles it will be on. Ubisoft should be releasing more information soon. Their FC site/twitter hasn't said anything about it yet.

EDIT: Too early to be posting. Changed the post to reflect that FC3 is not $5 right now.

Enemy Within is basically Enemy Unknown with lots of bonus content mixed in throughout the game (it's the same campaign, but with more classes, equipment, more types of aliens, more mission types, more special events, cybernetic & genetic modification of your soldiers, etc.).

So the new X-COM only earns you his 1000 Gamerscore, right? It's not 1000 for EW + 1000 for EU in one game, right? :(
Right, EU & EW each have their own 1000 Gamerscore (and the achievements are entirely different in each of the two games).

Enemy Within is an expansion to Enemy Unknown, but on consoles is packaged with the original as a separate game. You should be able to disable it though and play vanilla XCOM. From what I've read it's a very, very good reworking of the game so I would shell out the extra and get the whole package. XCOM is really excellent, and there is a ton of content there just from the base game so you will most certainly get your moneys worth.
