This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I heard Dark Souls 2 dlc is really good. Any opinions here?

Still at 35% on Destiny. Had a nice speed up then it slowed down. Closed the game, which according to Bungie is supposed to help, but I don't notice any difference.
I'm playing it right now while waiting for the beta to download. So far, so good it does feel like DS1 in terms of difficulty and also it looks like they have gotten really creative with the new loot. PvP is going to be so good, i think i got carried away.

Alright I know date was slow but who had the porn pulled up? I use my phone mobile data to pull this site up. I just hit refresh a few minutes ago to see new post on this thread and it took me to some porn site called badoik or something along those lines. Was hoping for watch dogs on sale, maybe next time. On the plus side picked up PvZ having a blast!

Serious question here. Definitely not trying to start a console war or troll anyone.

What's the draw of a Microsoft console? I am not asking facetiously. Having owned a 360 and PS3, I can safely say the 360 controller is just about perfect, in my mind.

But now, given PS4's supposed graphical superiority (not a tech guy so I really couldn't say if it's all hype/marketing), why pick up the X1? Is it brand loyalty? Friends/family already on XBL? Halo?

A longtime buddy is a devout Xbox loyalist. Now that we are living in different states, it would be nice if we could play these upcoming releases (Destiny, Evolve, etc.) together. But he refuses to jump ship.

Every time I ask him why he sticks with Xbox, he always goes back to the same response: "I just like it more."

He's having fun so more power to him. But man... I feel like I'm missing something here.

It's a new direction this site is trying. Game deals and Porn.

i went with the xb1 first for a few reasons. I do prefer the controller over the ds, but the ds4 is really a nice controller. I just like the offset sticks more. Another reason is I have a higher friend base on xbl than I do on psn, also a few personal friends I've known for years. I also went with the xb1 for it's entertainment purposes. I do like more of the xbox exclusives over the playstation exclusives.

Risen 2 maybe. Destroy All Humans yes. Risen 2 has an * next to it. "Discounts are valid now through 28 July 2014 unless otherwise indicated with (*)"
Aww crap...I'll have to get to GS tomorrow then, hopfully Risen 2 will still be on sale tomorrow evening...unless anyone has a spare $5 code I can use in the meantime...

Just a heads up, don't play your Destiny beta on X1 till It's fully downloaded. You'll most likely be greeted with a install error.

Obviously this doesn't pertain to the 360 version since you need a full download to play it.

I wrote out a long reply that didn't post for whatever reason. Long story short, if you can only buy one console, get the one most of your friends are on. Don't buy a console that you only have 1 friend that plays. I'll edit soon with why I got X1, not why I think it is better than PS4. I haven't played PS4 yet, so I'll try not to make any comparisons.

I love the controller. It is an improved 360 controller. Better dpad, better bumpers (watch a tutorial, I'm serious), and rumble triggers. If you think the 360 controller is perfect, you'll find the X1 controller to be purrrfect.

I also love the games. I still play Project Spark (thousands of free games), Killer Instinct, Titanfall, and Dead Rising 3. Later this year Master Chief Collection is coming out. That alone can probably hold my attention for several months. Plus they are cheap. I got Madden 25 and Assassin's Creed 4 for $10 each within the last month. COD Ghosts was $6 last week. Plus I've gotten nearly $100 worth of free Xbox credit last month thanks to Gamestop (and family that sent me their promotion codes). With Bing Rewards and Xbox Rewards you can get about $20 a month with barely any effort.

Kinect 2.0 is unbelievable. I know some people have problems with it, but I don't. No need to yell at your TV like Kinect 1.0. It even recognizes drunken slurred words. Voice commands during movies and TV shows are great so you don't have to turn on and off your controller every few minutes if you are doing something else at the same time, such as cooking. Rumor is that it is getting Cortana sometime next year. Already use Cortana on my Windows Phone all the time. Having it on Xbox would be great.

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of stuff from my previous post that got deleted, but most important are your friends and family. You don't want to get a console and not have anybody to play with.

Side note: Graphics should be improving very soon now that devs don't have to use Kinect. A great example is Destiny. It was original going to be 900p (the beta still is), but now it will be 1080p. This doesn't mean that Kinect is useless though. Still will be able to record clips, start streaming, snap apps, and more with your voice while playing the improved games.

Tried Destiny again on PS3 and it's up and running. I'll add comments when more people here are playing it.

I use my Xbox as a gateway to exclusives and in many ways a retro console (Contra, Shinobi) since there are some PC games on here (Serious Sam, Halo, Gears of War). For the record, I'm not the type that plays games on computers so I have many titles to explore. I know many say that about the PS3 but I am use to the Playstation controller setup and this is my first Xbox console for the past couple of years.

Also, Dance Central.

The reason I was going PS4 first (before MS cemented that choice for me) was because of PS+ and cross-buy.  I just felt like I got the best value for my money on Sony.  Also I love downloadable games and Sony has really entrenched themselves in the indie scene over the last couple years.

Everyone will have different reasons to get a console.  I don't play MP with my friends so I don't care which consoles they have and I don't really have a preference for controllers and will happily use a DS3, DS4, 360 or X1 controller.  You should probably get the console you want the most.  Figure out what is important to you and base your decision on that.

Do you have something against Target's sale, or just saving money in general...? ;)
http://www.target.com/p/xbox-live-digital-gift-card-esd-25-email-delivery/-/A-14883727#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=Target.com+digital+gift+card

Bought Sacred Citadel because I have to buy anything that has local co-op.
That sounds like a very tragic compulsion to suffer from. You have my sympathy.

I thought you said Contra and was considering getting an Xbox One for a moment there. What would having Cortana on your Xbox or Windows phone do?
Right now, Cortana can do things such as set reminders when you get to certain locations. Potentially Cortana with X1, I'd be able to tell Cortana on my Windows Phone to remind me to message a friend on Xbox Live when I get on or remind me to call a friend on the 25th to wish them happy birthday. Recently she predicted all but 1 World Cup match winner (using fancy statistics) and warned me about a tornado in the area 5 minutes before sirens started going off.

Some people might find it creepy, but I'm looking forward to when X1 starts talking and becomes smarter (although I understand why people find it creepy/scary). Turn on X1, "Hello Bob, don't forget that Arkham City has part of a holiday achievement available today. Would you like me to start it up?" "I know you like playing Halo and I thought you'd like to know that Halo 7 was just announced." "I noticed you got a new haircut." "Is that a PS4? I have deleted your 500 hour Skyrim save" "If you don't play me for more than a week ever again, I'm sending out all your passwords to your friends and posting dick pics to all of your social media accounts"

If not X1, then whatever system comes after it.

That sounds like a very tragic compulsion to suffer from. You have my sympathy.
Thanks. Although I have played through all of the local co-op games I have bought with my wife (and weekend bro gaming nights with beer and wings).

Now we are running out of things to play because couch co-op is dying, therefore the "buy everything" habit.

Microsoft is constantly partnering with resellers to have deals and promotions for their currency, Sony almost never does (best you can hope for is spend ~$50 in the PlayStation store, get $10 back). Microsoft gives away free or cheap months of XBL Gold all the time (at least they did, not sure if they still do), I probably got close to a year and a half for under $20, and I know some people did a lot better than that. I'm still fighting Sony for invalidating my code for a year of PS+ the day before it was supposed to expire (was supposed to be "good through 3/31/2014", but they expired it on 3/30).

The most relevant point is the first one, though. If you compare the list prices, Sony looks cheaper, but if you compare the actual cost based on buying Xbox currency for cheap (or getting $5 codes for free), then they can be pretty close. I can honestly state that Microsoft loves you(r money) every bit as much as Sony does.
You're right about PSN cards rarely going on sale but PlayStation Plus cards are always on sale. For $30-40 a year, you get a whopping 72 games. That's a steal any way you look at it. Granted you need to own more than one PlayStation device to take advantage of all those games. The discounts are also usually better than XBL discounts for the same games. The only time XBL has better discounts is for 1-day sales like the Ultimate Games Sale. But PlayStation sometimes trumps even that with the weekend flash .99 sales. When has any Xbox game not on the indie channel been .99? It does not take long at all for PSN discounted games to outstrip XBL discounted games.

How did you get a year and a half of XBL for $20? I would be surprised if that was intended by Microsoft or the retailer you got it from. Was it the 2 months for $2 deal on dashboard? Those kinds of promotions ended long time ago. In fact, most promotions for free XBL ended. The most recent one is the Skittles promotion but that was obviously not working as intended. I actually bought my PS3 because I canceled my XBL: figure that you buy XBL for $40 a year. So I bought my PS3 three years ago for $200. If I play it online for five years, then I break even. Anything beyond that is pure profit. If I didn't dump XBL, I'd have to pay for Gold for the entire lifespan of a console.

Every once in a while I see people on CAG fretting about their ability to buy a game before a sale is over because they don't have any money. I'm not telling anyone how to live their lives, but wtf? Shouldn't making more money be a bigger priority? If you can't comfortably support a habit, why would you continue to push it? Just honest questions... Sometimes this place feels like BrokeAssGamer.com. No offense, seriously.

Ninja Turtles Training Trials or some shit is free for kinetic. Looks like shit, is a small download and has stupid facebook achievements but...........I got nothing. I have no hope for this game, I'm just going to farm the easy achievements and move on.

Any recommendations for Frontlines: Fuel of War? too bad there's no demo.

The Raven, thank goodness an option for a demo was available because that was horrible.

So this is totally blowing my mind, I just found out you can make 500GB hard drives that work on stock 360s. I have no idea where they got the Microsoft 500GB security sector for these since I don't think MS ever made one, but I now have a craving to upgrade my 250GB drive - I'll try this and report back!
Success! Sweet, sweet disk space. I was even able to copy the Xbox compatibility partition so I can play original Xbox games if I want to. I'm currently copying a couple hundred GB off the old drive with a transfer cable.

It was so so when it came out but I haven't played it since then. Wouldn't be able to say how the MP community is after all this time.

I'm totally grabbing one of these off of amazon as soon as I get payed.

I'm loving Destiny beta. Feels like Halo mixed with Borderlands. Plus press right on the dpad when playing and fun times. I'll be streaming it all week :D

I played Frontlines back in 2010 and it was a bland and mostly uneventful shooter. You can forget about the MP because it's all achievement boosters (they always kicked me out so I couldn't boost with them :( ).

Damn if its so easy why is it so hard for M$ to allow this? Def going to try this. I have the 500gb hdd on my PS3 but I get all my stuff on Xbox. It will be so good to have all my stuff off USBs and on my system.
So tempted by the Raven but the demo sucked and it seems like you guys agree.
