Sell the GC version or trade it in. You should
come out ahead or at least break even.
Beyond Good and Evil is tempting as hell even though I still own the GCN version...
I bought the Arcade version even while still owning the GameCube version.

I just love the game too much not to get it, plus my GameCube is currently stashed away.

lol. Thank you kind sir. I guess I am a CAG extreme? I typically won't pay more than $15 for a retail game, and even then it needs to be on some kinda sale or clearance. Paying that price for retail games, I certainly can't justify paying that price for XBLA games... so I don't buy anything that's not 400 points ($5) or less, except in extreme cases (personally highly anticipated Mortal Kombat Arcade). On top of all that, I have really strange tastes... the only 360 FPS I've ever played, or had the desire to play is / was Borderlands. And some of the other stuff (Dark Souls, Batman AA, etc) that I would probably be interested in, I can't really play because my 5 year old daughter enjoys watching me play, and those are sights I'd rather her not see. Even the first 30 seconds of the Batman AA demo freaked her out; where they wheel the Joker in tied up on the dolly - he's a freaky looking one.

I'm sure you didn't REALLY want to know, but there you go anyway.

THERE you go! EXACTLY the position I'm in. I'd rather my kids not watch me play the games I most want to play, so we play pinball and peggle, and lots of racing games. This is why I don't buy as many games (or the bloodier type of game) as I used to.
Just a question: Has Microsoft ever had pc games DLC on sale? Or on DotW?

I'm especially curious to see if Bulletstorm DLC and Bioshock 2 DLC both for pc (NOT XBOX, I know that format has been on sale a few times, already). The DLC shows as an actual price and not msn points, as well.

Thanks in advance for any info.
All the time. Bioshock 2 and Minerva's Den are on sale until Thursday. You can check my site for when other games/dlc has gone on sale.

Ditto. I'm trying to make it thru Catherine, but it is slow going as I can only play when he isn't in the room...

Me too, but I just read about the inverted y bug so I'm skipping it.

It's not a bug, they inentionally left the option to change the camera inversion out. Why I don't know.

They have an option to invert y, but it actually inverts x at the same time, which is useless to most people that have the preference for an inverted y axis. Somehow it escaped Ubi's playtesting, which qualifies as a bug in my book. Not only that but they refuse to issue a patch that would correct it, check the forums. Inexcusable.

Patches cost money. You think MS will certify something for free? And with this sale I wouldn't expect a fix anytime soon, supporting a game means paying full price not buying it on sale.

Ubi just seems to be trying to recoup costs.

I hope we get a sequel but I am not keeping my hopes high.
Mortal Kombat Kollection, yay or nay? First answer determines whether or not I buy it. :)
Nay, Stick with MK9, nostalgia is not all it's cracked up to be.

Of course it costs money, but how much could a simple fix like that be? It would probably take an average but competent programmer all of several hours. But I agree with you that a fix isn't coming. One guy on the Ubi forum brought it to their attention years ago, so if they didn't think it was important enough to fix by now it ain't happening. Hence why I'm passing on it, and wanted to bring it to people's attention in case they like to play with an inverted y.

is risk factions good? it's only 200msp and i have a spare 260 after buying Beyond G&E. i have no interest in the multiplayer just the single player, is the single player campaign long or short?

IIRC, the campaign is only five matches long.

It's not the cost of the fix. It's the MS certification. I bet that is in the thousands.

I'm sure Ubi has a fix, but if they lost money on the port why would they want to loose more money for a few sales?

More power to you. One should always vote with their wallet.

My point was just that it's probably not because Ubi dosne't care, it's because we didn't support the game and MS needs to loosen up on XBL. If I recall the Xbox and Gamecube version had this option and if not someone posted the PC HD remake has this option. And if the PC remake has this fix the Ubi has the code to do it.

That's true, but you can also play single games against the AI, just as you would play them against other players.

I never understand why I see people in this thread talking about picking up some random non-sale game cause they "have points left over" from the sale. You do know there will be another sale next week, right? And the week after that, and then we'll probably have the Christmas sales again...

I feel like these are the same people who complain about having ran out to buy a 4000 point card and then didn't find much in a sale they wanted.

any news on this weeks DOTW?

also, would anyone recommend the pinballfx2 classic pack? i picked up core and marvel, but im not too sure about this one.

Played all of the PBFX2 stuff on sale and liked it all - I say go for it.

does anyone know if these premium themes will work on the new dashboard? i think the are trying to get over on us while they still can, like they did before, when you could see the whole picture, then on the NXE the make half of it not visible. they did make the friends pics pretty cool, but those were on themes you had to buy, not ones you already owned. i'm worried if i buy these, as of the 6th they may be worthless. any thoughts?

They work, but you're basically only getting the background wallpaper, which may or may not even look decent seeing as how the new dash blocks much of the central real estate on screen. The unique backdrops for each person on your friends list do not show up at all on the new dash. Wouldn't spend the money. One of the first things I did when I updated to the beta dash was change the theme back to default.

see, the new dash ought to be optional, or they should have to disclose this. i bought alot on sale recently (having only used free ones in the past), so they are worthless. can't believe they would throw away ANY revenue stream at MS.

do the avatar clothes show up on your character, at least? thanks in advance, man.

Here's the big question. Why didn't they just fix the camera BEFORE they sent it in for certification? They would have avoided patch costs (which incidentilly the first one is free IIRC) and made everyone happy right from the start.

It does come down to their cost to fix it internally since the first title update is free (again IIRC). Realistically, how hard would it be to change the few lines of code to make the camera swing different directions? This has to be laziness on their part OR they wanted to have a pure port of the game (honestly the latter sounds more like an excuse to not admit to the former). It's not like we weren't complaining about the problem when the released it the first time. I know I was. It's one of the few games I never played on my Gamecube because I found it virtually unplayable at the time.

Avatar clothes seem fine
do the avatar clothes show up on your character, at least? thanks in advance, man.
Yes, of course. People would revolt if M$ took away their virtual clothing.
Yeah, the backlog will continue to grow until you learn to stop buying games you don't actually want to play. I've yet to meet a CAG that has learned this though....
To reiterate what others have said....have kids. :)

My friend and I probably dumped hundreds of dollars into MKIII in the arcades....the AI did feel really cheap, but I'm downloading the demo anyway to see how much of a masochist I really am...

So has anyone actually bought/played through Weapon of Choice? I'm this || close to buying it...hoping MS will continue putting XBLIG on sale (like Biology Battle!).

After having bought and played some of the Marvel pinball pack, I'm still on the fence about the Core pack (would have to buy some more points to make this purchase)...

A couple clarifications on the themes and the new dash:

The special backgrounds for the characters do show up. But only when you go into the "Friends" tile under the "Social" hub.

The same applies to the different wallpapers. You have to click on "My Games" or "My Video Apps" tiles (and go into a sub-menu) within each hub to see them.

For now, Avatar props DO NOT appear in any part of the "Friends" hub or its sub menus - UNLESS, you click on that individual friend and go to yet another sub-sub-menu.

The whole thing is big on sub-menus and everything is more compact so you have to scroll more and go into sub-menus. I wish you could stick with the old dash, too. But I think the main purpose of the update seems to be to push the Kinect on everyone.

I think the whole BG&E camera issue is being blown out of proportion. Yes, I prefer inverted too and yes it's a bit disorienting at first, but by the end of the demo I had already made the adjustment. To call it unplayable is sort of extreme. Suck it up and enjoy the fact that you're getting a game widely regarded as exceptional by core gamers for a mere 3 bucks. Or don't. Either way it's not getting patched at this point so move on.
Yes, of course. People would revolt if M$ took away their virtual clothing.
as much as i've spent on them, i'd be the 1st to protest (i know, it's stupid, but when i have points & see cool stuff, it must be mine)!

thanks, crookshow & Joey! much appreciated.

well, that SUCKS!! i was just getting to be content. cool about the backdrops for friends, but i'd rather see props. UGH! i will never buy kinect, & i'll sell it if it comes with the NeXtBox (yes, just because of this! j/k......about the last part).

EDIT: seems like they were trying to copy the XMB, and they can't even do that right. they had the better steup, but can't leave well-enough alone! if we weren't required to pay the gold fee for mp, and pay for the avatar, themes & props, it'd be much different, but they are screwing alot of people.
Yes, of course. People will revolt once M$ takes away their virtual clothing.
Fixed that for you. ;-)

(I get the distinct feeling that avatar gear isn't going to be ported over to the next gen system when it happens...and I think there's even a very slight chance that XBLA games won't end up being transferrable to the new system, because M$ can be that stupid about things.)

i am wondering if the new dash is faster than the old one? i don't know is it just me, but it takes like forever at times to load or even navigate the current dash.
i am wondering if the new dash is faster than the old one? i don't know is it just me, but it takes like forever at times to load or even navigate the current dash.
The dash does seem slightly snappier, but it could just be in my head. The guide menu is still pretty laggy tho.
i am wondering if the new dash is faster than the old one? i don't know is it just me, but it takes like forever at times to load or even navigate the current dash.
Whatever speed is gained by the new dash (and it does indeed load faster) is unfortunately killed by all the additional scrolling and clicking and going into sub-menus you have to contend with. I'm sure it's probably a couple quick hand waves with the Kinect - but I own a controller and a remote. The place where I'm living is too small to accommodate the thing. Plus, I'll be damned if I'm going to buy a $100+ peripheral just to get the dashboard to function properly!

yea I did, what the hell.

I know that they're older tables without some of the frills of the newer ones in FX2, but hopefully i can enjoy them.

I'm already pissed I got mk on single player the ai cheats it's ass off and on multiplayer is so laggy it's worthless.

I had more fun with risk than I thought I would!

I was talking with someone earlier about that, I love xbox, but if they don't transfer the xbla games to the next system I have no reason not to go with the next playstation system which I will if they don't port the arcade games over.

I may join you on that one.

Omg, I'd go postal

The latest update to the dash did seem to bring back the "friend backgrounds" with premium themes, so there's that. Some themes look good (like the free holiday one from last year because it blends into the bottom gray color well), some not so good.

The new dash is kind of cool if you have a kinect, but for voice activation not waving your hand. I've grown fond of turning on my xbox, and then launching any game I have or any of the apps though a couple of voice commands. Now if only they would let you have an option to say "computer" instead of "xbox" to start the first command... I could feel like I was in Star Trek...

I think I'm going to have to pick up Deathspank 3 before the sale goes away. I'm deliberating because I have a huge backlog, but I did really enjoy the first 2 and it may be a while before it's on sale again (and I may want to play it in the meantime) so I may as well get it.

On another note, has anyone gotten the 140 points from the October promotion? I never did, and in the 3 weeks since I posted about it on the support forum I've gotten nothing but "oh, it'll be fixed by [insert near future date here]"...and there are dozens of similar topics in the forum. It's not a ton of points and really not a big deal that way...but now I'm really annoyed now at how much time I've had to put into it for nothing.

Oh, you'll be able to download them to the 360x2. The problem is, each one will need an emulator to work so there will only be about 50 of them and then they will abandon the program after they make you believe they will create emulators for all of them.

Yeah, I picked up BG&E HD - because my Orig.Xbox copy won't work in the 360.

Lmao, oh, that'd be the day. I'm sure there may be some way to nickname your Xbox in the futurre, I mean, they have the technology, I'm sure.

So, just realized that during BF week I bought about $60 worth of MSP... for $45, but still, damn.

I ended up getting:

MvC2 (finallyyyyyyyyyyy, I'm sure my original Xbox copy will be glad to have a break and gather dust, wish SSF2TurboHD got the same treatment)
Warhammer: Killteam
Outrun Arcade
Super Meat Boy
Fancy Pants Adventure
Mortal Kombat Kollection
Beyond Good + Evil HD
Pinball 2 FX Core and Marvel packs
AC: Bro DLC
Both Homefront DLCs
Weapon of Choice
Stacking

400 and below is just my sweet spot for buying stuff on sale. The only annoyance to me was that I could have saved 200 on Risk by waiting 2 - 3 weeks for this sale, and I wish I hadn't caved @ 600 for Stacking and waited until it hit 400, would have spent that 400 saved on either Sega Rally or Full House Poker. I think I picked up everything I wanted otherwise, though I might have picked up Flotilla or FHP/Sega Rally if my wallet wasn't hurting so bad from this week.

Kinda hoping the next DotW is a snooze, just a little bit. Either that or it gives me a way to dispose of my 260 MSP remainder.
