100% pretty sure they'll have season pass #2 once the first pass's last dlc pack is out. That is if they are going to keep working on downloadable contents for GoW3!

And your going to love pack #3 in janurary...call of duty meshed into GoW3....prestige mode will be in it!

Will this deal still be available when we find out what the Call Of Duty deals are this evening around 9 or so? I might wait to make my decision there (i.e. - if the COD stuff sucks, then definitely).

Yuck, if each dlc is for different modes, I only play single player, I'll save my points for when raam is 50% in the summer,/fall/winter I did grab a 1600 poi9nts card incase i wanted this but nah, I think ill buy sam and max season 2 instead so i can play season 3 on my ps3
Don't forget that all gun-type Avatar Props will be delisted on January 1st because apparently the Xbox is a toy for children, so if you want to pay money to play manly virtual dressup then this could be your best... SHOT.
Wow, lol, clever irony followed by a cheap pun. Two different types of humor coexisting rather peacefully.

Yes, when the CoD stuff gets discovered on xbldb.com, you will have a 3 hr (maybe 6?)window to get the GOW3 stuff before it's replaced by the CoD daily deals
uhh no because if you actually Read it the Season Pass entitles you to Four dlc packs. In february you will get the Fourth pack for free if you have the season pass. After that you must Pay for all DLC. From Feb 2012 to Dec 2012 you have to pay for all other DLC packs. you are Only entitled to Four dlc packs. ill laugh when you complain and cry that the DLC released after Feb wont be Free for you. your season is 4 DLC packs long. after that you will pay what non-pass holders pay. period. no if ands or buts.
Read my post again. That's exactly what i mean - already know that season pass give you 4 packs.

I missed Cod Classic when was on sale for 400MSP. Looking how going these deals, this time is going to be 600MSP. Oh well, will buy it.

I personally want to thank Microsoft for such a shitty deal week, otherwise I would have blown tons of points on old games/DLC that I would fail to ever play in 2012, this way I can start 2012 fresh with points ready to go.

Am I the only one that thought the deals this year were fine? I had picked up several games on my wishlist (Sonic 4 at its cheapest, Renegade Ops, Bastion, ITSP) and while I can understand people being upset that Season Passes getting discounted so soon, it makes them a lot more palatable to me. Probably will get the Gears 3 one. I think the biggest problem was starting off with the big gun, Bastion, and people thinking we'd be seeing a lot more huge XBLA games for sale.

I think it's pretty safe to be disappointed when a large portion of the deals are DLC garbage. Bastion and Renegade Ops can both be had for cheaper on PC, so that's not a plus for people who have Steam. The only good deal thus far in my opinion has been the Sonic one, it's just unfortunate that I owned all the games already.

The deals were OK, just not on par with prior years, esp. from a percent off standpoint, you are correct about Bastion, ITSP and Ren Ops being good deals, but aside from that pretty weak sauce. Those wanting only RAAM's Shadow DLC don't forget that Gamestop has it for $10. I just wish that Microsoft treated its gold members like Sony treats PS+, I'd love some discounted Pinball FX2 stuff.
If I buy the season pass, as opposed to downloading whatever free packs, does that mean the maps will show up in public Horde mode games? If so, I'm in. But if I'd have to play private matches altogether to see these maps, then they'll never show up for me at all and it's practically worthless.
The Horde pack maps have a chance to show up in public Horde (or Beast) whether you buy it or not - it all depends on the host. If the host bought the pack, the 3 maps have a chance to be voted on in the pre-game lobby. If the host didn't buy the Horde pack, you're limited to the maps that shipped with the game and the 2 maps that came with the free pack that weren't part of the Horde pack (Clocktower and Bullet Marsh).

So, you are saying that if I don't host, then it's completely up to whomever is hosting on whether or not those maps can show up? I never host, based on my connection, so that's a deal killer for me.

Well, the Gears 25% off deal only proves that it will eventually hit 50% or more like every other piece of DLC and/or season pass release (I'm looking at you LA Noire).

50% off or bust... unless you MUST play it now.

A special thanks to Microsoft for keeping me from buying more points until next year with nothing awesome or new this year.

Isn't that the case with anything game related? I'm sure there will be a GOTY/Complete/Whatever Edition of Gears 3, and it will eventually be really, really cheap. It's all a matter of how long you want to wait.

I would much rather see more XBLA games as they have done in the past. Those deals are available to everyone. I don't play online that often, so all the multiplayer DLC is really of no interest to me. Further still, you have to actually own the game in order to use any DLC. I have a Kinect, but many don't - so those deals are also specific to certain users.

XBLA games are open to everyone and then everyone can make their own choice to purchase/not purchase. It would just be nice if all 12 days of deals would actually apply to everyone.

Yup, I think the deals are fine. I bought all of the Summer Of Arcade games when they came out so personally I have not picked up much, but the deals themselves are good. I would imagine Trenched/Iron Brigade would have made this years list if there wasn't the delay in Europe. This is the internet people like to complain.

Not always. For a while there was a thought that the bundles would never get discounted, but these sales prove they will --- and fast. Essentially there is NO reason to buy the big name DLC on release unless you must have it.

Some DLC (Samurai Warriors 2 XL, for example) will never be discounted.
Gears 3 season pass on sale tomorrow for 1800, another slap to the face to people who bought it on first day. They should give more to first day purchasers than people who get it on sale. Too bad if they ever do something nice to first day purchasers, I won't get jack shit because last time I had trouble with purchasing the RAMM DLC and trying to get my 1200 points refunded, MS gave me this bullshit about how I never purchased the season pass at all. Took two tries and they finally caved in and gave me my 1200 points back giving me a warning that they can't do refunds like that. Sucks the big ones to the hardcore fans out there buying season passes on day one.

It looks like you can't purchase a damn thing anymore on X-Live because it'll be on sale in the next three to four months now. This is what I've been doing but knowing that I love Gears, I had to get the season pass day one.
Yeah pretty annoyed myself. This is the last time I ever buy a DLC season pass before it goes on sale. The whole point of a season pass is to save money up front, but in the end you still get "shafted". Meh... f**k season passses.

Quoted from season pass description

"The Season Pass serves as your pre-order (at a 33% discount!) of four downloadable content packages that you will receive every quarter, starting in November"

How I read this is we get four downloadable content packages every quarter starting in November. So after a new quarter starts we get four more downloadable content packages right? If they release more than four content packages in a quarter then season pass holders did not pay for all of those, only four. I hope that is what they meant, because that is what the description of the season pass I bought said.

It clearly does not say 1 per quarter, and that is not how they are releasing them either. Also, it does not say four DLC per season pass or even per quarter (as covered by separate season passes). It clearly says every quarter. According to the description I have preordered for every quarter starting in November.
I think the one reason why people who bought the GOW3 Season Pass early
deserve to be pissed is that not all the DLC has been release yet. Basically they got the first DLC 2 months before those buying it on sale and RAAM's shadow 2 week early. Unlike some other Season Passes like LA Noire and MK that had all the content released by the time the pass went on sale. I know they are doing this to keep interest in the game and get the fence sitters but the timing is a bit crappy for the early buyers.
This... +1... etc etc

well, it took 2 season passes for me to learn not to get season passes for games like this anymore. glad I didn't get the LA Noire season pass, that woulda stung big time.

meh.

+1. Got The MK Pass for $15 only cause I wanted to play with mostly freddy and Rain, but I have to have everything so instead of buying them individually I got the pass for the other two. La Noire I got when it was a dotw. The gears season pass still adds a great deal of stuff. Weapon skins, extra characters, more maps, story and horde mode extras, and lastly each one comes with 250 extra GS if your into that sort of thing like me. Im happy with my purchase. Now I wait for saints to go down in price and that seems like it. I see it as a 5% slim chance that elite goes down in price, whether it be $10 or a penny.

I'm with Joey, the soapboxing (I'll call it whining) in this thread is getting annoying. Yes, this is CAG. Yes, we bitch from time to time. But, come on, it's a sale. These things happen all the time and we eat up every second of the sale, it's what we do, it's our modus operandi. So, maybe you got burned cuz you didn't wait. No big deal and it's not even that great a sale, to be honest.

Anyway, I did grab the gold lancer prop just for the heck of it and I'm curious why we don't get apoco-2012 glasses like previous years. Those were fun. (yes, now I'm being a bit whiney! ;) )

It's definitely confusing. However, if you think you are getting more than those 4 DLCs for your $30, then you are probably mistaken. It makes a distinct reference to a 33% discount, and at $45 for the packs individually, the $30 covers that 33% discount. Honestly, if they do throw in an extra DLC or something with the season pass, I'd consider that a big win for those that purchased it, but I wouldn't count on it.

But we've seen it before. Gears 2 did the same thing with DLC prices. They dropped and dropped and dropped some more. Recently you could get the triple pack for less than $20, (maybe it was even $10) which included everything prior to Gears 3.

You can't seriously be surprised when the cost of non-fixed-cost items drop in price. It's all about getting the most money out of people.

Really, people should be happy at the low cost of our hobby. Gears 3 is chock full of content, and the Season Pass offers even more. I bought Gears 3 for $40, then at the discounted rate I get XBL points, I got the Season Pass for about $16. Even if I had spent $21, the original price of the Season Pass, I couldn't really complain. I'm sure the whole Gears 3 package with all DLC will eventually be available for $20, but do I really want to wait that long to save a little bit of my disposable income? No.

Fair enough! I can't argue with you. #-o

Back to more meaningful conversation........I wonder what'll happen, if anything, on 1/1 and 1/2? I'm also hoping the EA sale surprises us and gives a drop on Crysis (fat chance) and offers more variety than just mass effect and dragon age DLC, mainly because I love those games and bought it all on release.

Time to get gears of war 3 season pass. It's, what, $22.50 today. Now I just need to use that LA Noire pass sometime, or not.
Let's see what the cod sale has to offer.

your 100% correct. moravec above thinks hes entitled to 4 packs per quarter, however he forgot to read the 33% off. thats the whole clue to tell you that the total value of the pass is $45 10 + 15+ 10 + 10, which is the 4 packs. last pack out in Feb. Epic is not stupid to sell you 4 packs every quarter for 1 whole season of 4 quarters. thats 16 packs of dlc. its impossible for it to be $30 or even $45. i gaurantee you in March they will release season pack 2, im betting a season pass will be out every quarter for 2012. but there is no way in hell you will get more than 4 dlc packs for the $30 price of a Season pass 1. i thought 1 season lasted a full year like COD elite, but its not. you get 4 per season for $30, every quarter. 1 Season = 1 Quarter (there are Four Seasons, Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall)

The LA Noire pass was relatively inexpensive if I remember correctly. I don't think I've paid full MSRP for a game in well over a year, but Borderlands was the one that stands out as burning the most. Paid full price for the first DLC, then 50% off for the rest, bringing the amount spent easily past $70, but the counter argument is that I got to play all the content as soon as it came out, while it had it's largest online community, and you pay a premium for that early access.

For games like Dragon Age and Fallout(s) I wasn't hungry enough to get the DLC right away, and scored big with GOTY editions for a fraction of the price. It all gets down to the point of value. Do you value playing the DLC early and potentially with more people, enough to warrant the current price?

The Lancer and Hammerburst are pretty much it AFAIK. I thought that there was always a prohibition on guns but they just made a special exception for Gears.
your 100% correct. moravec above thinks hes entitled to 4 packs per quarter, however he forgot to read the 33% off. thats the whole clue to tell you that the total value of the pass is $45 10 + 15+ 10 + 10, which is the 4 packs. last pack out in Feb.

The silver and gold Lancer and Hammerburst as you know, also;

The Raving Rabbids Brush Launcher!
Dunno if they'll be ditching a gun that shoots toilet brushes, no worse than a gun that shoot portals...
Wild West Shooting Gallery!
Fingerbang!

I think those and the Portal Gun, which they can't remove because it's an Avatar Award, are it.

Decided to bite on the Gears 3 season pass. I had a good time with the campaign and some horde playing, this'll get me back into it a bit.

Plus I'm too anal to ever sell my copy of Gears 3 because it came with my Gears Xbox thus a GOTY edition wouldn't work for me.
They were good deals, and you're right about Bastion getting people's hopes up out the gate, but I think the frustration is directed at MS in general with their Direct Download pricing. This is the future for MS and the Xbox brand and their pricing is not attractive compared to STEAM or even PSN which is free. That is fine, it is their service, but when my Gold runs out in a year and a half and the new gen of consoles is released, I have no plans to stick with MS.

I personally am happy to get Bloodrayne and Renegade Ops for 50% off, am thinking about ITSP, and would have liked to have picked up Bastion but missed out on it. I'm sure there were also a number of publishers who would have liked to have offered sales on their own XBLA titles, particularly older ones, but MS said no. It wouldn't be the first time that has happened and it came as no surprise to me when the World of Goo developers vented their frustration with how difficult MS is to work with and correctly pointed out how XBLA is steadily losing developer support and exclusivity in favor of PSN.

Got me some Gears Season Pass...just got the game for my B-Day so this compliments it well.
Still on the fence about Bloodrayne. I actually own the soundtrack but not the game...is it worth jumping on at the current price?

Can anyone confirm that, for public games, it's the host that defines what maps are used from the DLC for Horde mode and Versus? I never host so me picking up the DLC wouldn't make any difference. But if I need the DLC to play the new maps in Horde mode when someone else is hosting, then I'd probably pick up the pass today. THanks!

FYI, the Horde Command Pack DLC has more than just maps.

http://epicgames.com/community/2011/10/gears-of-war-3-horde-command-pack-available-nov-1/

The add-on includes three new maps, three new playable characters, two new weapon skins and additional achievements worth 250 Gamerscore. The Horde Command pack also includes new fortification upgrades in the fan-favorite Horde mode.

New fortification upgrades:
 • Command Center – A brand new type of fortification that allows you to call in fire support from sniper teams, mortar strikes and even multiple Hammers of Dawn.
 • Decoy Upgrade – A new fortification level that turns your decoy into an Onyx Guard bot that will fight in your defense.
 • Sentry Upgrade – This upgrade adds a fire bolt sentry that deals much more damage and is very effective against Berserkers.
 • Silverback Upgrade – This advancement allows you to upgrade your Silverback exo-suit with devastating rockets and extra levels of repair cost reduction.

New characters:
 • Onyx Guard
 • Big Rig Dizzy
 • Bernie Mataki

New weapon skins:
 • Team Plasma
 • Jungle Camo

Don't know if asked, but does the 1800 MS Points GOW3 Weapon Skin Pack also contain the early Beta skins?

There were skins that you could only obtain if you played the Beta on certain weeks.

As far as I know, you're outta luck on those. Though I seem to remember two or three of them seeing a limited access period later... I don't know the details on that offhand (or if it even happened) 'cause I jumped through hoops to make sure I milked the beta for what it was worth. Got the last unlock about 40 minutes before it all shut down.

It does not, although some codes are out there for all flaming weapons except the still-unavailable Retro Lancer, the gold Retro Lancer and the beta Cole Train skin.

Cole Train also comes with the Fenix Rising pack in January, albeit a completely different Cole Train.

(His trousers are blue instead of white.)

In public co-op sessions, the five players vote on one of three random maps. It may not be possible join the new horde maps via a public match without owning the DLC.

However, since the Horde Command maps were included in the Versus Booster Map Pack, you may play them by joining a friend's session. It is possible to earn Silverback rocket kills without purchasing the pack, assuming your friend has upgraded all his fortifications and is willing to let you use it. It's also possible to use the Horde Command Center once the host (or anyone else with the DLC) has unlocked it.

If you enjoy modern platformers (Hard Corps Uprising, Moon Diver, Shank), BloodRayne is a worthy purchase. The biggest complaints I've seen are about cheap deaths and poor controls. Unlike Hard Corps Uprising, I didn't feel any of the segments were cheap. BloodRayne: Betrayal has a progressive difficulty (similar to Super Meat Boy) that prepares you for the harder levels. I found the controls to be more than adequate. My only complaint was the limited enemy types since the gameplay focuses more on combat than platforming.

I think too many people expected Betrayal to be a modern Symphony of the Night, but it's much closer to the original Castlevania. In fact, there's even an unlockable NES soundtrack mode. $7.50 is a fair price.
