• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I guess I am missing the point in the SS vs X1X debate here...my understanding was that if you are an X1X gamer then you are not the SS target demographic.... the words "upgrade from the 1X to the SS" just do not make sense to me.

In my scenario I'm getting the Series X for myself. I was going to give my son my One X. But, the Series S seems to be a slightly better product that is a bit more future proof. Microsoft is taking trade in's, so if it is generous enough, it may be worth the upgrade.

Each game also has to have its own app in the app store, and 30% of any DLC bought in the game goes to Apple (meaning Microsoft loses its entire cut). That probably kills it.

As far as Series S vs X1X goes, I have no doubt that any game that supports next gen features will be superior on the Series S - the SSD/CPU/new GPU features ensure that. What's not as clear is how BC games (a huge deal for almost everybody that posts here) will perform - will Xbox One games run in Xbox One S profile or will they run with X enhancements?

Yeah I wonder about that, because exactly like you said there isn't going to be stuff on Xcloud that isn't "up to the standards of Apple". I think they just hope they create enough roadblocks it's not feasible for MS to do it. That said since their EU "Monopoly" investigation is about to get into full swing with likely a US one to follow they might cave a little on this one thing to show "see we're doing something" Good for people that want to use Xcloud though so hope it works out.

There sure is a lot of definitive talk one way or another about the superiority or inferiority of Series S and One X.  I don't think numbers and specs are clear enough for anyone to be so sure about things.  I do have a hard time believing Microsoft would put out a "next gen" console (even their cheap one) that would be weaker and inferior to something from current gen.

A game may look slightly better on a SS because of new architecture but it will always look best on a Series X (or PC). Touting whether the X1 or SS is better is like arguing over who will come in second. But if you can find an X1 for $150 or $200 as people sell them, then that might get you through the next year or two while you save for a Series X instead of a Series S.

Well that's interesting. So it get some enhancements, but not all. So now we have backwards compatible titles for X1S, Enhanced for X1X, kind of Enhanced for XSS. Now will there be any new backward compatible titles that will exclusively run on the XSX or that will have unique enhancements?

I just want to get around to finishing Morrowind someday, but I must wait for the ultimate way to play it. May need to wait for the Ultra Pro version of the Series X when they do a mid generation revamp and upgrade.

On last weeks podcast Cheapy and Shipwreck we’re talking about building a new PC with these new cards would cost about $2,000. Are you saying I should compare a $500 video card that is a paper weight on its own to a $500 console that works once connected to a tv?

Microsoft has mentioned that there won't be any next-gen exclusives of first party titles for a while (a year? two? something). No other publisher AFAIK has said this same thing, not even Sony.

I'm not sure what to believe in that article, when they use the word "probably" in the first paragraph.

I've mentioned before that there aren't any system seller type games coming for the Series X, but I'm still getting one Day One so that my existing library will be playable at an enhanced level. I've seen lots of people mention the same thing in here.

It's not like you bought a house or car without telling her. Plus, worst comes to worst, you order it and if she's still bitching, you could have sold it for a profit. I'm not touching on most of that just in case my wife sees it somehow. Lol.

Technically the main reason I didn't order it was that I was thinking about saving the money for the next gen systems and the coolest part of the exclusive design would be laid face down on my shelf (I never leave my systems in the upright layout due to having young kids in the house). I'd already passed up on the X1X when they were $200 for a second in the spring and still wasn't quite ready to dive into a limited edition consoles so close to the end of the generation. I know from many prior purchases that I never get my money worth out of those limited ones that I didn't need extra of, and flipping them isn't as easy as it used to be when I had more time available than money. I still have a collection of about a dozen working consoles in my house so doubling down on extras of the XB1 didn't feel crucial with how much emphasis they are putting on backwards compatibly that I'm not worried about these games getting left behind.

My entire point from the start has been stick with an X1 unless you really feel the need to upgrade and if you do, get a series X. I have a PC so, knowing that MS has stated they are attempting to create an ecosystem that doesn’t force user to upgrade the way past generations did, I’m not too concerned.

If you happen to have access to a PS4, Until Dawn is a better game from the same developer. Man of Medan isn’t bad, but it’s features shine more if you’re playing with a group. Both games are definitely horror-based with less options to fight back (more Silent Hill than Resident Evil if that makes sense).

Thanks, we are good for now and not currently in an any evac stages at our house. One of the money reasons I'm single I guess. If I want to buy something, there is no discussing with anyone. Especially something that is a limited edition and only $300. It's not like you bought a house or car without telling her. Plus, worst comes to worst, you order it and if she's still bitching, you could have sold it for a profit. I'm talking $100-$200 more and most women out there are obsessed with money so she would have actually been happier with the extra cash. Shoot, I wouldn't have even told my wife I was even ordering it unless you were using her credit card and don't have your own which would be even more amazing that you got a woman to marry you without even owning a credit card. If that's the case, you must be like more attractive than Brad Pitt to pull something like that off.

I would assume there are a lot of couples that think a $300 purchase is significant enough that it should be discussed first.

If you want to be able to buy stuff and never have to discuss it or justify it, you are indeed making the right choice of staying single.

Call me crazy, I'm thinking about buying a Series X at launch and keeping my X1S as backup. This is coming from someone who never buys next-gen consoles at launch. I guess the only question is will I have to put down the $500 plus tax right away or pay it down between 9/22 and launch depending on the retailer?

There will be games you can play on the Series S that you can't play on the Xbox One X. Who was expecting or assuming anything else? It wasn't "real" until a few days ago. Still think it was a smart move for them if not for you, $299 price point with GamePass has people that will never be in CheapAssGamer forums at least with an eyebrow raised.
