• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
• On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Microsoft are wizards, velocity engine loading games faster on a slower ssd than the PS5 has. It's going to be interesting how that changes for games built specifically for the new machines.

It will be interesting to see the results once the D2 optimization upgrade comes out in December for both consoles. Either way, the next-gen improvements are huge for any consistent D2 console players.

Also, this is still just the regular Destiny 2 version running with compatibility - the full Series X version will come on December 8th. While I'm sure the load time will still be limited by the online nature of the game, we may see additional improvements at that time.

It really is, the SSD was supposed to be the PS5 ace feature to offset the slightly lower graphics spec on the Series X. If it isn't even beating it there, looks like the Series X is the all around better machine.

I think after the RROD and the fact that folks will be primarily be using the new consoles to play games they could play on hardware they already own (with a few notable exceptions), reviewing the hardware for BC performance is pretty relevant. That type of coverage has definitely made me want a Series X sooner than later.

I'm waiting to see what the load times look like for Fallout 76 and hoping I can get at least some improvement on the Series S. Unfortunately some of the issues in the game seems to be tied to server issues since the last update about 50% of the worlds I join run like crap.

If it doesn't improve much at least I can go back to Fallout 4 or New Vegas to finish up the DLCs I have never done yet. At least one of those 3 will have to run better on new hardware to fill my needs.

XSX probably loads older games faster than PS5 because of the way BC is implemented on each.  If the PS5 is making less of the CPU available for BC, then stuff like decompression will be slower, with the SSD not actually being a bottleneck.  Regardless of the reason, Microsoft's early investment in BC is continuing to pay off.  Still need more Xbox game patches to unlock those 720p/900p games though (Tekken 7, I'm looking at you).

Just watched the Miles Morales DF review.  Less than 2 seconds from main menu to in game action.  Next gen load times are going to be such a big improvement.

I don't plan on touching it unless it's part of GWG or Game Pass, which I doubt because of the Sony deals.

Yeah, I would like both as well but the way Playstation is handling PSVR on PS5 is extremely disappointing. Maybe they have something fantastic planned, but the current silence and minimal functionality make it look like it was an afterthought (Adapter needed for old camera, need PS4 controller to play, no PS5 games work with VR and you need to install the PS4 version). All in all, I'm thankful it works, but when they announced full PSVR compatibility, we expected something more. I've been more and more impressed with what Xbox is doing with backwards compatibility.

To be honest, after doing some digging on what The Medium actually is ... it looks ... ok. Reminded me quite a bit of The Sinking City or Call of Cthulhu ... not so much in story, but in the quality of those games. Had a definite AA feel, not exactly a system seller.

The Bethesda acquisition plus potential for Halo and a few other core Xbox series is why I have no doubt I’ll buy a Series X at some point between now and the end of 2021. But there really are no amazing exclusives as of right now.

Yep. With Halo's delay and now this, the Series X has the odd distinction of being the first console launch without any games that are 100% exclusive to the platform. I don't think it will matter ultimately and I'm not complaining, but it's definitely an odd circumstance. The Saturn technically had very few titles when it launched early but that was a poorly planned disaster and not really comparable.

Given Xbox's underperformance this gen in terms of sales, I imagine quite a few people getting a Series X or S may have skipped the X1 and will have plenty to catch up on. Others just want the best experience possible since generations have less meaning with hardware scaling and a shift towards a PC model.

Well, technically Tetris is a “new” version of the game. And other consoles won’t get the update to bring it to that version until next summer. And yeah, Tactics is on PC. I was just referring to console exclusives.

There are a bunch of new games on both consoles at launch that are multiplatform. I honestly don’t care that much about “exclusives”. I just want to play games.

And I usually end up with both consoles anyway.

The best feature Series X and S have for 2020 is probably Game Pass. For families that are upgrading from an original Xbox One or never had a MS console, I think that’s where the value will be. Hopefully Microsoft can educate the average consumer on its benefits, since you could buy your kids a Series S and nothing else but Gamepass and it would be a pretty sweet holiday gift.
