• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
• On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Sony having their Spring Sale starting Wednesday. All PS3, PSP and Vita games are $1!

Someone in the playstation topic said that sales are deactivated for the dead old systems. So if that's true the best sale price we could expect is full list price. Maybe some devs could get sneaky and just lower their base price for the game.

I should go buy some old garbage PS exclusives for the backlog. At least I know I won't regret it since they can't hit gamepass.

It’s to bad that Sony and Nintendo still do it that way. It really makes all games feel like long term rentals on those systems. The Wii was the first time I got burned, I had only bought digital on Steam before the Wii and then I bought several N64 and SNES games on Wii and then they shut down the store, felt real bad especially since the prices of those were pretty high.

Agree with him on most points, though I actually really like the Dual Sense adaptive triggers and will get some multi-platform games on PS5 because of it. Otherwise, GamePass and other consumer friendly policies gives me little reason to go outside of the Series X and earns goodwill to make me want to spend money with MS.

I follow Paul Tassi pretty close, and it’s been interesting to see his opinion change from PS to Xbox over the past year. He makes valid points, and unlike some minor gripes I’ve seen about the Series X/S (non-4K dashboard, some flickering when using Auto HDR), the UI flaws of the PS5 were carried over from the PS4, so I don’t see Sony making changes anytime soon, if they can.

There are things that I can’t understand why they haven’t changed. Like having to completely redownload a game if you buy it on digital after owning it on disc. And why do you have to wait and watch a screen moving a game from internal to external storage?

The PS5 has introduced some strange new bugs as well. Like if you delete a game, it leaves an icon on the home screen. Now I have a bunch of deleted games staring at me when I turn it on. Sure, you can get rid of them if you start the download again. But if you don’t have enough storage to even start the download that doesn’t work.

Say what you will about the Series X/S having the same look and feel for the UI. I could care less. It just works.

This is me. Game Pass converted me when they started the $1 E3 deal 2 years ago plus Microsoft Rewards and I've gone complete Xbox for multiplat games. Hell, I haven't even bought a PS5 and haven't turned on my PS4 Pro since getting my Series X. I wish I had done it last gen so I had all my library on the Xbox ecosystem. Oh well, lessons learned.

I don't think Sony is doing itself any favors with its hostile attitude about legacy games. Stores for the PS3, PSP, and Vita will be shut down this year. Even the PS4 will deny you access to your physical media if its clock battery dies, and Sony "generously" buried it deep in the system where a layman can't reach it. You know how easy it is to switch coin batteries in a Sega Saturn? You open the hatch on the back, pull out the old battery, and insert a new one. Apparently Sony didn't think it was important to grant access to its own coin battery, even though a Saturn with a dead battery can still play discs and a PS4 cannot. Screw 'em.

Same. I skipped the X1 generation and was all PS4, but since I got my Series X and got back into the ecosystem for the first time since 360, the PS4 has gathered dust. Because of Game Pass, I am more than busy and don't feel the need to get a PS5 for awhile. Game Pass + the new tech is fantastic...and I will get the cross releases like RE Village and all that will be more than enough to tide me over until the PS5 Pro at some point. Xbox scene is great value for gamers right now. The cheap 360 digital BC titles and how great they perform on the Series X is a bit of a revelation. I also love scouring local deals @ places like pawn shops and Half Price Books for super cheap 360 BC titles. The Series X is a game changer, especially for giving new life to old games. Some look so good, they almost resemble new releases.

I bought the Spider-Man black Friday PlayStation bundle a couple years ago. Was super excited to play it. Played maybe 10 hrs and fell off. It was good, but it didn't pull me in. Tried Nathan Drake Collection, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Nioh as well. I think I could have loved Nioh, but it became hard to even want to turn the PlayStation on and ignore my XBox. Was able to sell it for the same $200 I paid for it just a couple months ago, so I'll call that a win. Wish I could get Amazing Spider-Man 2 for XBox, but that game is pretty rare. Most spidey games are pretty similar since the PS2. Sure the PS4 had a lot more polish, but if I want to swing and brawl, I can get that fix on XBox. Especially with retroarch. Related tangent: Telltale Jurassic Park is another ridiculously overpriced game.

1. Does the PS5 still do the "Copying..." thing that PS4 does? If so, I thought they were going to do away with that.
2. If the game has cross-play that means that the game has a platform-agnostic save system, so does it not also have cross-save?

Yes, the PS5 still has to "unzip" everything that needs to be installed. Probably something that couldn't be changed from the PS4 generation in order to keep it backwards compatible. Both this and the disc installs and store downloads not being one and the same are issues carried over from the damn PS3.

I occasionally throw some of my old backlog games in to check them out for 20-30 mins and doing this is such a chore with the PS3. So many of it's games required a 2.5-5 GB install which can take 20+ minutes (+ time to find other previous installs to delete and make space). Pretty much every game I throw in the 360 is patched in under 10 seconds and I'm ready to go.

I just got a PS5 and spent a whole day getting things installed. I've not played it yet (started Fenyx Rsing DLC on Xbox) and the PS5 menus are maybe more annoying than PS4?  I can't find out if any installed games had DLC or if it installed.  I usually get a version of the game that unlocks outfits or something but there is no easy way to manage a game and see DLC like on Xbox.  I never understood people that claimed the X1 was hard to get around in.  Everyone has to learn a new console, but I had the PS4 a few years and each exclusive I got for it never got me any closer to it being easy to use.

The PS games are good, but I end up enjoying the story more than gameplay.  Using symmetrical sticks are like walking with someone else's feet when you have to do any aiming when you are an Xbox player. 

If you get a PS5, turn off/down the dualsense trigger shenanigans.  It might be cool in Astro's Playroom, but when Call of Duty makes you put down a metric ton of pressure to shoot a gun it sucks.

It's the Xbox One version which is rare and expensive ($60-80 minimum). The 360 version runs about $20.

Yep, Hard Corp Uprising would be a great game to get, one of those games which, if not for BC, would be trapped on a digital storefront becoming obsolete (*cough* PS3).

Dark Void is one of those games I had thought looked really cool when it came out and had wanted to play. It was on Game Pass ~2 years ago so I finally took it for a spin, it really really wants to be Uncharted meets the Rocketeer, which sounds cool, but the difference in polish is so obvious as an early gen 360 game that it's better in concept. I still appreciate free-to-keep 360 games for game preservation, though.

Damn....I just looked up that trailer and super bummed I missed out on this game. I'll be traveling for work today and tomorrow, so I wont get to enjoy it on GP the last two days. I added it to my wishlist, so I wont forget Journey to the Savage Planet...as soon as I get some of my backlog cleared!
