Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-21
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

I tried to play Genesis Noir today because I liked the game's art style, but I hate games where I constantly can't figure what to do next.

Ten minutes in, and I'm done.

Yeah, the default aiming in Outriders feels too sensitive. Allot of times I think I'm aiming at where the enemy is peeking from, but instead I'm just unloading on the barricade. Still enjoyable though and still impressed this is a day one Game Pass get. With that being said for everyone further along in the game, is there any reason for bolts and buying things in the game? I Feel the game does a darn good job with giving me loot on a constant basis that I don't feel the need to buy anything.
If I'm not ADS I'm usually 50/50 doing damage with shots. I've got 2 toons early 20s and plenty of mods that I want to buy/buy weapons to get. I don't know why but I also feel bad at the game? I'm playing Trickster and Pyro at world 3 and in bad trash areas will drop it to 2 so I don't die. I understand the loot loop of ill get stronger at max level, but with world 5 unlocking it feels like I'm supposed to be playing at that level but no way I can survive it.

Wreckfest will be getting additional Series X upgrades later this year, will most likely cost $10.

"Wreckfest is getting a $10 upgrade for PlayStation 5 owners of the game, described as "the best Wreckfest experience on consoles ever," offering up to 24 player races in multiplayer, as well as enhanced visuals such as "dynamic dirt on vehicles, better textures, and improved visual effects."

"Xbox Series S and X will receive a similar, paid version later this year. The current "upgrade" on Xbox only enables 4K and 60 FPS if it detects Series X."

  • 24 player lobbies in multiplayer (cross-gen on specific servers)
  • 4K resolution at 60 FPS
  • DualSense haptic Feedback (PS5 Only)
  • Improved shadows and particles
  • Volumetric lightning (Godrays)
  • Higher resolution textures
  • Increased amount of foliage
  • Dynamic dirt on vehicles
  • New visual effects for skid-marks (parallax occlusion mapped decals)
  • Much faster loading times

  • Dynamic dirt on vehicles
  • New visual effects for skid-marks (parallax occlusion mapped decals)
  • Much faster loading times
Hmmm I think I’m fine with the current 60fps. However since it’s on Gamepass so I never had to buy it... makes the $10 upgrade more appealing.

Game really is excellent, I've been pleasantly surprised. It doesn't quite hold my attention for very long, but it's not the game's fault since I'm just kinda bored with looter-shooters atm. Haven't noticed the issues you mentioned other than their server kicks to crash to desktop. -_-

My biggest complaint is the constant interrupts while aiming down the sights if you get melee'd. They need to disable camera movement while you're reeling because I swear me just flinging my aim 180 degrees in the wrong direction after a headbutt gets me killed way too frequently. Seriously annoying.

My techno is at 17 and just unlocked wt8. I've been selling white & green and dismantling blue. While I haven't actually bought anything from one of the stores yet but with the crafting system want to have the scrap incase something pops in with the right stats or a mod I want for the build I'm going for.

Decided to play and finish deliver us the moon before it leaves game pass this week. Was a pretty good game, but glad I didn’t purchase it. Using a guide from true achievements made it a fast and easy 1000gs. Took about 6hrs to complete.

Outriders is way more compelling for me than the Gears series or any of the looter shooters have been to this point. I keep seeing it get panned in reviews from the same sites that give Gears 5 or Destiny 2 expansions 9’s. Those games have been so damn boring for me ... Gears has always been an overly macho slog with little beyond the cover shooter mechanic and Destiny has always had a vague, confusing story with samey enemy types.

Outriders has the illusion of being an rpg, which appeals to me, the designs look cool, and the story is more interesting than something like Gears. Mostly I enjoy the fact you can run around and talk to characters, get some sense of the world and explore with more written back story to find. I think if Anthem had the same kind of compelling city hubs, it would have also appealed to me more. Overall I really like it ... it’s fun and has enough customization and skill tree choices to keep me engaged for now.

Which CAG Gears Pop group is "most" active?  I joined the CAG XB2 group since that 10 open slots.  I joined my 3 accounts, but maxed a pin this morning, so probably don't need the extras (but might keep one if there's room to solo boost Horde).  Still need 247 Vs wins and about 28k pins to complete Seriously to complete the game.

I really wish the game industry would come to a consensus on what the various words for games actually mean. Deluxe, Gold, Ultimate, Definitive, Game of the Year, Complete. I find that Deluxe usually means extra content, but not all content, yet sometimes it is all content. Gold typically means all major DLC and maybe all content. Ultimate, Definitive, Game of the Year and Complete are usually all content, but even sometimes that’s not true. Then you get one off names like Apocalypse, Apex, Next-Level, XXL, Reloaded, Premium. Seriously, it gets super annoying especially when the companies will put some editions on sale but not others. Ubisoft and Square Enix are really bad about it. I’d prefer a simple Silver, Gold, Platinum model. Silver includes some additional content, Gold includes more, but maybe not all, and Platinum includes all. They can use all the other words they want, but maybe just have a banner above each title that tells you whether it’s Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Irregardless is in the dictionary now. Language is subjective and marketers are predatory assholes, so good luck.

May I introduce you to Capcom, home of the "Super Hyper Ultra x Turbo Alpha vs EX Arcade Championship Edition"?

They'd probably find a way to mess that up, too... "Double Secret Platinum! It will include a limited-time in-game character skin/outfit* that allows you to double-dab at your enemies and make their brains explode while a K-Pop tune plays!"

*Only redeemable if you have reached level 100. Requires in-game currency to redeem. Must redeem within 30 days of purchase. Will likely be nerfed when the Triple Secret Platinum edition releases, date TBA

Actually, I think some of the Saints Row: The Third DLC parodied this sort of thing...by actually doing it. Releasing outlandish skins/effects (including a 'Dubstep' gun) not included in the 'online pass', etc. :whistle2:k

Lol what a shit show.

At least when Microsoft took down the original xbox servers they kept all the bc games fully patched and gave the dlc away for free.

Any PS3 panic buyers should work on getting everything installed from discs as well. About 30 games just had patches removed, meaning no more playing while connected to PSN or earning Trophies, on top of the expected loss of fixes.

I'm upset at this, but more upset I'm going to have to go through PS3's shit ass download nonsense with lower speeds and can't turn off the console to download and lower speeds when trying to run it in background. The hoops that need to be jumped...

That's alright, I just found out Scorpion was left out of MK3 purely for marketing. Tobias has an interesting thread up to squash 25 years of rumors about why characters were left out. Hint: it was almost always because of memory limitations

I like when people bring up dictionaries as tho they tell you how to use words rather than list the way words are used. Dictionary editors bring it on themselves tho, since different dictionaries and different editors over time quibble over if they should be prescriptive vs descriptive. Personally, it seems to me "Yeet" is a sound with a few well defined meanings and that's pretty much what makes a word. Should it count in Scrabble? Who the hell plays Scrabble anymore?

On the Xbox side of things, I have installed but not launched Outriders. Somehow I got an itch to play Darkest Dungeon again, but since I didn't remember what I was doing I started a new campaign to get a feel for trinkets, skills, party makeup, etc. I've done this a bunch of times since release, only ever made it to about week 60 before taking a short break, then when I come back I don't know which mission to go on because I've forgotten what trinkets are actually useful, what party members I was trying to level, and so I decide to start a new campaign to get back into the swing of things. Irregardless, it's still one of my favorite games. Maybe when the sequel comes out I'll actually beat it and that will compel me to finish the original as well.

Yup, I don't think I'm getting a ps5 at this point. This XBL thread, 10+ years ago, had alot of users calling XBLA games 'extended rentals' and they were only good until MS pulls the plug. It's crazy seeing Sony actually doing it while MS took steps to preserve their digital libraries. It's almost a total 180 from the early Xbox 360 days when DRM made me switch to Playstation for awhile because they didn't have the same online requirements for digital downloads.

I never bought too many digital games on PS3 but I wonder how many disc games I have will actually be working next time I play them?

So I've had my series x for a week now, and it's probably because my tv is an older 1080p plasma, but I'm really not seeing anything special with using it over my old xbox one s. Games loading faster is about it and that's just something I still don't really care about. There were a ton of "updates" to games I was regularly playing after I transferred stuff to the internal hd, but not seeing anything that's telling me I"m any better off by having this next gen console compared to my One S. Was excited to get it, but now feeling it's very Meh, and that I probably should've spend the money elsewhere.

The generation jump has been getting and will continue to get smaller each time. It will be a couple years before developers will start to take more advantage of the tech. I wasn’t expecting a big improvement because no company showed anything truly jaw dropping. Usually companies talked about how different they could render things and other technical stuff. It was nothing like when they revealed the SNES after the NES or even the jump from say PS1 to PS2. Just off the top of my head I can easily see the difference between what Ubisoft did at the beginning of a Xbox One with Black Flag compared to Odyssey. I don’t regret getting the new system at all. Some game improvements are more noticeable. The detail, lighting, load time and draw distance in Forza Horizon 4 is a the most obvious of the games that got a patch that improved a lot. Even non patched games running on my external HDDs look better at least a little bit but usually it’s in lightning and small graphic fidelity. In fairness, I’ve used my Series X on two different 4K HDRs and even between those I see a difference because of the age between them.

Trying to do the alien Xbox quest but it is not popping. I have heard it is easier in survival, but that will spoil the campaign and I want to play through that someday, so don't want it spoiler.
It says remain undetected for 5 minutes, but nothing is popping.

TrueAchievements has a good explanation on how to get it real easily. You start survival run out of the tiny room you start in and open a door to start the timer. Then you run back to the first tiny room you were in and stay there for five minutes. Nothing spoiled.

I went to choose survival and then a message popped up saying story could be spoiler.

I think if you had a 4K HDR TV, you’d see a difference. Heck, you’d see a difference even with an Xbox One X. The only thing you will see without 4K is the loading times. Games like Gears 5 look incredible on the Series X but you’re only going to see that on a newer TV.

Whenever you can afford one, I’d suggest upgrading that TV. Even getting a TCL will make a world of difference.

Honestly even going from a TCL to an LG OLED has made a difference, especially now with the ability to play at 120 FPS in some games. But the biggest difference will be if you go from HD to 4K HDR.

At 1080p, you aren’t seeing the benefits of the Series X IMO.

You said it yourself you have an ANCIENT TV that can barely do 1080p on an antiquated plasma screen, while using it with a 4K Console....It's like putting a Ferrari engine on a Toyota Prius...Do yourself a favor trash that TV.

I don’t see how you could be spoiled by anything by trying this quest in survival. Like others said, do survival, open the door to start the time and hide. Even if you get caught, restart and repeat because the quest tracks cumulative time hidden. You don’t need 5 minutes no stop.

I definitely see the difference even from One X to Series X, but I upgraded my TV a couple months before getting the console. If you are 1080 with no HDR, you should still have some differences.

Anything that runs at higher than 4K should have smoother edges, which would be noticable compared to One S games which often toped out at 900p or lower.

Higher FPS is one of the best benefits, try something you played on One that received this upgrade, like Destiny 2 or Cyberpunk.

Other than those it's more dependent on the game, some stuff will have more visual effects on, or better draw distance. Ray tracing games means much better reflections and shadows, as well as more realistic lighting.

I'm sure it still looks fine, but at this point, dude really needs a TV that can display HDR well ...

This method worked for me. No spoilers at all.

Also, the game ran like hot garbage on my Series X. Like single digits frame rate. Super weird. Anyone else have that?

Diminished returns. Looking at a game like FF7R (not Xbox [YET] but almost identical tech), games can still look great on last gen, and the truly mind-blowing graphical differences these new consoles are capable of definitely won't be realized for awhile - especially as long as cross-gen development is a thing. I still love my Series X for running the best versions of games.

Some games will loo better still at 1080p - better anti-aliasing, better textures in some instances like Gears 5, ray tracing is still a thing at 1080p but most games aren't utilizing it well at this point. Most 1080p TVs don't support HDR either.

Dynamic resolution maxing out, frame rates for FPS boosted games, upscaled 360 games... still a lot of improvements the Series X can offer, but not a dramatic difference without a 4k TV.

Absolute garbage for me too. To say it even ran is giving too much credit. Once I stopped moving and just hid it seemed fine but the initial part where I had to move seemed more like it was slowly buffering a Sega CD FMV game.

My son keeps wanting to get on my Series S to play his Lego games. There are better reflections and shadows even on a game like that.

Occasionally I go on my 360 to get GWG and man that system is old and archaic, but HOLLLLY SHIT IT AIN'T GOT NOTHING ON THE PS3 PSN STORE. Instead of gaming yesterday I was going through my collection trying to figure out what needs updates and downloading and there are so many awful things about that system that I feel I repeatedly block out because it feels like a fevered dream of developers just trying to intentionally fuck on me. Things like it needing to download patches one by one instead of just one current patch with everything up to date and after downloading patches or games it needing to take time out to install them as well which can't be done in the background. That and the whole no sorting of anything you own and multiple menus to figure out what's in your storage. Just a garbage set up. GAAAARBAGE. The things I do for games that I may never get around to playing.

Arkham Knight is the worst looking game to play on a Series X. Sure, the framerate is more stable than it was back in the days of the VCR, but it's so freaking blurry.

The most important part of the Series X visuals are the games you play. Games that are meant to look good on the X will look very good.

Second most important is the TV.

Don't trash your TV yet. If you can't get a 4K HDR set right now, that's fine. You'll be missing out, but you can get by. The bigger deal is finding games that actually look good already.

That'll be weeks of my life wasted this summer on ps3 crap since I own at least 3 ps3s. I think have some games purchased before they reduced the number of systems authorized so wonder how that works now.

Step one is to find every game that I already own on Xbox also and throw out the ps3 copy. Then find games that are still readily available on Xbox either digitally or reasonably priced on physical and throw out those ps3 copies. Then any games with remasters, remakes, or maybe even pc versions and throw out those ps3 games. Then sort the tiny stack of exclusives and download updates. Looking over half my digital collection and I already see a bunch of game I would rather pick up on Xbox again than to even attempt facing the psn store to try finding and downloading.

The final step of this downloading and patching process across multiple systems is of course to put my ps3s back into storage and then never play these games anyway.
