General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I got it when it was free and it shows $0.99. It's in my library of ready to install owned games though.

Looks like my current games will be interrupted by the leaving soon. I guess I'll check out Blair Witch and Stranger Things.

I just read that Blair Witch is leaving. It feels like a game I should try but I also know if I never did by now is it really a game I want to play. Any opinions if it is worth it?

 
I played about 2 hours of Blair Witch tonight. I liked it enough to keep going with it. It’s only supposed to be about a 6 hour game for a single playthrough. Be aware that it’s basically a horror themed walking simulator. I didn’t know what to expect until I actually played it

1) Are you trying to “buy” the game online, or on your console?
2) Is the game playable without purchasing?

If the game is playable, it could be that you acquired the license through the xb1 console or the modern web store and they are allowing you to “buy to own” just like any GWG game. If you bought it on the old web store it should be yours forever

If the game is not playable, it could be that you thought you bought it but didn’t.

I checked my library and it does say owned. It is playable but that doesn't mean anything since it's currently part of GP. I definitely don't own the 360 BC version since it was only free on X1.

I picked it up when it was free. A few weeks ago I noticed it said Game Pass so I checked and sure enough it says I can buy it still. I will never play it so I just deleted it. MS killed the license for me at least.

 
Not to take away from this video because it does indeed look great, I still prefer a more authentic experience. The overclocking of Chrono Cross was particularly impressive.

I've been running the retail version of RetroArch and got it set up to play Final Fantasy VII once I saw it was leaving GamePass.

I'm using the same Duckstation core through RetroArch, but none of the enhancements to the resolution. Also applied the newest version of guest.r's CRT filter. It's like time traveling to when I played it for the first time on a PlayStation and an old TV.

Highly recommend dev mode or retail mode RetroArch on Series X if you care to try it.

I played it around release and enjoyed it. It's not the greatest game, and there were some annoyingly frustrating parts, but the good made up for the bad and I like the series (even part 2 which is highly underrated), so that contributed. From what I recall, it's also really short, so if you just want the experience, it won't take long.

 
Psyconauts is coming up as "Owned" for me but it also has an option to gift it for .99 cents! This is the only OG Xbox and Xbox 360 game with this option I could find. Hopefully, it's a sign gifting will be an option for all games moving forward.

Not sure if the Bethesda acquisition is the reason this is happening or if it was already in the works, but it's happening. Here's hoping they paid Trent Reznor enough money to use the original soundtrack.

Also, first example of a post-acquisition release being fully multiplatform. As a presumed remaster that doesn't surprise me, much like Minecraft, since it's not exactly a system seller.

 
Since this is also the Evangelion thread, they finally detailed the initial physical release, first one in like 15 years. Price seems extremely high for the amount of content even for a limited edition, hopefully the normal release is cheaper.

Full series, the two original movies, an artbook.

Official dub (Netflix?)
Classic dub (ADV/Manga Entertainment?)

$275 just feels too high for 26 episodes and one worthwhile movie. Especially with them still leaving out the Fly Me to the Moon endings.

If it came with all the versions of Fly Me to the Moon during the end credits I think I'd consider it, but it being a no show and that price means I can pass. Also thank God because I gotta get me a new bookshelf like a grown ass man.

And achievements for Quake have leaked online. You can almost say I'm... Quaking in my boots for the announcement!

And Quake 1 remaster coming to Game Pass it looks like. 2 and 3 as well, but only for PC.

I can't recall if it was Quake 1 or 2 that had the CTF mode?  I played a TON of that on PC.  I was actually very good.  Now I suck at multiplayer games.  Too old and slow.  

 
Okay, I’m not the type that plays certain games for content and personal reasons. GTA, Far Cry, Sleeping Dogs, Mafia, and Saints Row games to be exact. I’ve been thinking about trying Far Cry 5 and New Dawn. What are your thoughts on those 2 games that would possibly convince me to check them out?
 
What's the easiest chevo for that 500 point top 10 games? I have none of those downloaded so cloud play is preferred.

Sea of Thieves had something stupid easy like customizing the character or equipping something.

I'm very eager for Q1 to get the RTX treatment. And I'd love a proper Q3 style game since Champions and Live don't cut it.

If you enjoyed FarCry3/4 you should like 5/New Dawn. If you have never played any of them, 5 is good place to jump in. New Dawn is FC5 Part 2 so you should start with FC5 if any.

I enjoyed all FCs from 3 and up. 2 is....ok. I dont care for 1 or Instincts/Predator.

 
Also of note is that the Quake remaster is on PlayStation and Switch so guess MS is allowing some first party stuff to cross over.
 
Haven is one I started for the TA Bean Dive last month.  Achievement wise it seems to front-load the first 4 within the first 1-2 hours of play, and then it took another 8 hours of play before I got another one.

It's fun moving around the zones, but I dislike how some zones have areas you can only get to by using a flow stream... e.g. if you want to go out the north exit you sometimes have to go to the southeast corner so you can find the right flow strand to get you up to the right ledge.

Combat is also a mix of "I like how I can do combat using just the 2 analog sticks, and I like how it's a balancing act of using both characters together for power attacks or splitting them up to do their own attacks" and "I hate how sometimes the optimal situation is just to let the monsters attack you, because they only show their weak spot after doing an attack"

Cool, cool. Thanks for the input! I’ve never played any of the Far Cry games and thought maybe 5 and New Dawn would be good staring points.
 
I really wish Morrowind and Oblivion got this kind of remaster.  It's 10 years old and Betheseda just keeps milking it with no new game in sight. I'm only gonna play another 100 hours or so with this new version to show my disgust.

5 is a great starting point imo. I generally enjoy Ubi's open world games, but had never played a FC before 5. Played it and New Dawn late last year and had a blast with them. Definitely looking forward to 6 down the road.

The Skyrim upgrade options seem questionable. Only Bethesda can give me that feeling of excited disappointment with such frequency.

Man … sure would be sweet to get the same treatment for the Fallout games. That damn Fallout 4 Creation Club content is taunting me but I’m never going to pay those ridiculous piecemeal prices.

Yes, Oblivion and Morrowind special editions would hit the spot.

I'll play Anniversary Edition if it has a new achievement list.
