• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Making it super detailed and locked to 30fps means they didn't understand the project. If cutting the resolution doesn't open options, what are they doing? It might not be technical incompetence but it's some kind. This game thinks it's hot shit and is hopefully in for a rude awakening.

Scorn is just a creepy game that nailed Halloween season for release date. I don't like creepy so not touching it.

I hear it's more unsettling than creepy. I don't care for gross out stuff either. Still, if it's 3-4 hours with a guide I might knock it out later.

I Got $85 down on that Masquerade Edition at GameStop and we're less than two weeks away from a game that was originally announced like five years ago. If they wanted to dispute contracts and make a scene, they should've done this months ago because goddammit the time for patience is over.

Many SNES games were 60 FPS but had a ton of slowdown.  Some later cartridges like Super Mario RPG included the SA-1 (Super Accelerator) chip which was 4x faster than the SNES CPU.  There are ROM hacks that add SA-1 support to several games that had a lot of slowdown, like Gradius 3 and Contra 3.

That said, no 60 FPS in a current gen only action game is a big bummer.

I don’t want to spend a lot and don’t need much. Maybe 4 USB ports and an hdmi input(for a monitor.) I’m getting overwhelmed by the options when browsing for one.

SNES had tons of slow down as I remember. It was definitely not a 60 fps when it was a new system. N64 games had a lot of slowdown too.  I can't go back and play Banjo Tooie on my N64 after the updates Microsoft made on the Xbox 360 update. 

The games were still fun to play and looked great back in the day.   Now we are spoiled by high resolution graphics and high frame rates.  I admit I get annoyed myself when a game slows down nowadays. Still I can deal with technical issues when a game is still fun to play.

Another thing to remember about the SNES - it was only outputting to every other line available on the TV, frames being 240-260 lines of the 525 lines on NTSC TVs at the time.  So it was running in a kind of "performance mode" (more frames at the cost of lower resolution), though there was no "quality mode".  Probably would have been cost prohibitive to have more detailed sprites for everything on the cartridges.

No, if what she says is true it is mega shitty for her, but it's not the level of many of the other shit shows we've had in the industry that I have avoided developers/publishers for. I mean, I despised that David Hayter got replaced but I still bought MGSV day one.

Really, I don't think boycotting will actually do anything here. It's too late for anything to change, they aren't just going to magically pay her, and she likely burned any chance that any big studios will work with her ever again. Though Bayonetta was her only notable role in voice acting.

I don't really understand they would offer her so little only to bring in the much more expensive Jennifer Hale. People keep saying she's a bigger draw but I don't really think so, at least not in this case.

I'm curious to see what follow-ups come from this, if something more concrete comes up maybe I'll wait for a used copy to appear. I am kind of surprised that Kamiya immediately responded and flat out said she was lying.

I'm more annoyed at Jennifer Hale for taking the role.  She gets so much work that she's entered the Nolan North/Troy Baker tier of "I'm tired of hearing this person in everything."  The Kiefer/David thing was a little different since that recasting was for star power purposes (I didn't like it but Kojima loves his Hollywood connections).

You're right, I get Jennifer and Laura's names mixed up sometimes (like I used to get Nolan and Troy's names crossed).  I can think of Laura in more lead roles (like Gears and Last of Us 2) than Jennifer.  Maybe Steve Blum is a better analogy for Jennifer than Nolan/Troy.

I think a lot of people forget that those old low frame rate games were being played on CRT TVs. Those had instant response time displaying images. Today's common LCDs that most people own smear the hell out of 30fps imagery, dropping the perceived resolution quite a bit and adding ghosting. 60fps helps this a lot by telling the pixels to change sooner.

The darkness levels and response time of OLEDs individual pixels nearly get us back to that CRT sweet spot.

I also have a bit of a theory that us old folks have become much more susceptible to lower frame rates as we aged than we were in the 80s and 90s

The Gotham Knights devs have already demonstrated issues with scaling down/optimizing for multiple SKUs when they canceled the Xbox One/PlayStation 4 versions so I'm going to say that their inability to make multiple performance profiles is more likely a result of their ability to program than the existence of the Series S hardware. There's a reason that they haven't worked on anything else after Arkham Origins besides Arkham Knight DLC (which released 7 years ago).
He can also off with that usual bullshit defense of the $70 price tag citing inflation (which ignores a larger market/more sales, the cost savings associated with rising digital sales, the swath of special editions, DLC and microtransactions, etc.)

I thought it was you. I looked it up when you posted about it. I don’t think I need something that robust since all I’m really using it is to play old rts games and maybe an mmo here or there just a couple hours a week in total. AC Valhalla and Forza Horizon 5 aren't on that list, but should be. And while Cyberpunk isn't a great example given its problems at launch, as of its current state, it runs at 60fps too.

PC devs have to scale games all the time to run on various hardware configurations. I think that eventually the existence of the Series S may bottleneck development in a serious way, but there are far too many other games that are working just fine. It will be interesting as more current-gen exclusives come out which can't run on PS4 / X1 to see how much it actually matters.

I'll mind a lot less for a game like Starfield, assuming the combat is similar to Fallout and doesn't require quick reflexes or button timings. Gotham Knights, comparatively, would be a noticeable difference gameplay-wise with a higher / lower framerate. At the end of the day, all I care about is that a game runs well and is stable, but when a game gives you the option (Control Ultimate, FH5) to switch between 30fps and 60fps, the difference is pretty stark. I couldn't go back to 30fps in Control during combat after playing it in 60fps, but FH5 was easier to get used to in both.

Not only that, but SkillUp stated that all reviewers played the PC version, which is higher than 30fps. I guess someone got a console copy early and said something about the frame rate, which sparked all of this discussion on Reddit.

It's kinda bizarre that they didn't even give it a full year. I kinda get it in a way though? I have such good memories of being a kid watching TechTV and G4 all day and night. When it returned... It just wasn't really very good. Or at least it wasn't what I was looking for. Truth be told I'm not really sure what I was hoping for but it didn't feel anything like classic G4. Really the only things I'd end up watching were Sesslers stuff as I still think he's an amazing journalist but the rest of the new G4 cast kinda fell flat for me, as did most of the content they were putting out. Still I thought their numbers were decent for how short they'd been around. I just feel like Im no longer their demographic, which would be fine, but I'm not really sure who their target demo was?

I totally agree with you. I wasn't a fan when it first came out but it's since grown on me a lot. Movie has plenty of issues, but it did do a damn good job of nailing the games overall aesthetic and direction. Like you said I'd also argue it's one of the stronger video game adaptations.

Real cautious about the upcoming Silent Hill announcements. Really curious what they're going to be. Hope there's something that looks promising. The 2 remake could be so great but if it's true it's from Bloober then I won't hold my breath. They completely don't get the series besides the surface layer based on their previous horror games

I think, to my understanding, that bloober is working on a Silent Hill 2 remake - which if that's true god help them cus I still think the original Silent Hill 2 (and the original Xbox port - Restless Dreams) are a perfect game and hold up incredibly well even today. Bloober really needs to truly understand what made that game perfect to even have a chance at remaking it effectively and I just don't think they have it in them. My fingers are crossed on the other SH projects though. I still hold hope that KojiPro is somehow involved in one of them.

I will say that you're totally right, and I totally forgot about Slitterhead. I hope there's news about it soon. When it first got announced I was so hyped it looks so up my alley. I have every certainty that it will be better than whatever bloober puts out

Just finished Scorn.  Don't expect any kind of story or idea what's going on.  It's just weird.  Found a 2 hour video showing what to do, so I decided to play it since it was already installed.  I almost would even say it's a puzzle game.  It's mostly just confusing hallways with lots of buttons to run around and press.  It looked and sounded great, but that's all it is.  There are maybe less than 30 enemies in the whole game and a boss near the end.  No enemies after the boss.
