• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I was having no problem this morning. Played for a bit and was enjoying the game. Wanted to pick up where I left off and now I can't start the game. Not an ideal experience to be sure. It must be region based if you aren't having any issues.

I guess I should have known not to be an early adopter for this game. I usually don't jump in like this. You would think by now a company like Blizzard could work out network play after all these years.

I agree with you... I sort of miss the days where I could just be able to play diablo. Rather than all of this services stuff. But alas, apparently there is no money in that... Or something... I'm also stick at game start pending for like the last 90min...last night was fine. Weird. Ah well, Back to Dead Space 2 I guess.

Well that is not good news for sure. Instead of playing the game I have been spending time giving Blizzard negative feedback since that is how I roll when a product is not up to standard. I do hope the Activision deal falls through at this point since I am not sure it is a good move on Microsoft's end based on this sloppy launch. If Blizzard can't do network stuff right at this point they never will and should give up on games as a service since they can't perform at a basic level.

Longest streak was 163 days (223 achievements). This was mainly driven by the 50pt punchcard. Also had a 136 day streak with only 149 achievements. Have a 80.69% completion percentage. My rarest completion was TT Isle of Man with my top 6 rarest achievements. This was interesting.

Yeah. Good for those individuals. I am torn. The game is fun when it works. In my opinion games like this have way too many technical issues to be a viable product. Better not to go with games as a service for the main single player game and to only require network code if playing online. While I was playing the game I was seeing random players in my session. It is very disorienting to me. I was finally able to play a little bit ago, but I did not play very long. The whole randomness of if I will be able to play when I want to has turned me off of Diablo 4. Thanks for ruining the franchise for me Blizzard. It used to be a lot of fun when it was just a game you could play without having to authenticate with a server that may be broken whenever.

I never had any of these issues playing Diablo 3 on Xbox 360/Xbox One/Xbox Series systems. I guess I was lucky? Diablo 2 was an eternity ago and again no issues there. The original Diablo I never really played much, but I purchased it many years ago for the PC. I am pretty sure my PC copies of Diablo 1 and 2 would work fine today with no issues.

Dang, I’m at 44 and just finished Act 2. I might have ran around and got every Lilith Altar in Act 1 though and did almost every side quest in Act 1 and did the 3 strongholds in Act 1 too.

I knew when I saw the message pop up in the game about login issues (which by the way I had no trouble logging in) there would be some kind of issue. My issue is the game won't launch even after the countdown timer ends.

It's funny: I had the same issue, got up, had a bowl of cereal, and was able to get back in (without being mad enough to stipulate on Al Gore's Internet that garden-variety game launch stuff should be illegal). Hope everything gets smoother for both of us and everyone!

It's kinda goofy to remember how angry people were when Xbox paid to have Tomb Raider be a one year exclusive, but seem to care less when Sony does it with arguably bigger titles for longer periods of time (or indefinitely). If the game underperforms in terms of sales, I wonder if there is any clause in the contract for them to do an Xbox port or if it's more binding than that.

Timed exclusives don't bother me, first party exclusives don't either. Exclusive marketing? Annoying, but fine. But if a game was planned to be multiplatform and the only reason it's not is a giant sack of money, that is bullshit.

I just bought a PS5 off Amazon Warehouse today so trying to figure out the best way to get the games I want. After reading your post, I started looking into PS Plus Extra. I might have to take the plunge. I ordered Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Death Stranding: Director's Cut, but both of those are on Extra in addition to a couple of others on my list.

PS Plus Extra is definitely the best option to catch up on exclusives, especially with the discount right now. Biggest advantage over Game Pass at the present moment - annual subscriptions that get discounted. $75 for 12 months is about $6 monthly, 2/3 less than MSRP on GPU.

Is this your first playstation console? i literally just picked up a PS5 today and subbed to PS+ extra. Have Kena and Ratchet downloading as we speak. I have the playstation app installed on my phone and I literally just got an alert to let me know that Kena just finished downloading lmao!

I'm curious previously you mentioned being impressed with PS5's UI and disappointed with Xbox. What made you impressed/disappointed with both? PS5 didn't really impress me out of the box. Hooking up my PS3 this week and I was extremely impressed. Basically the entire background changes to a backdrop of the game accompanied by music from the game which changes on the fly every time you scroll through a new game in your library. So in fact Sony's UI has been doing this for 3 generations now.

PS+ is a great value now. This is what happens when Microsoft forces Sony to compete. Consumers end up benefiting. I personally don't care much about day and date. I find it's a little bit overrated especially considering most games are releasing broken and buggy these days. One advantage is that all Xbox 1st party games will stay on Game Pass forever. This doesn't seem to be the case with Playstation as they recently removed Spider-Man from the service unless that was just an exception and them just trying to cashgrab some extra sales with the recent release of the movie.

I was all-in on PS3 and then barely touched the PS4, comparatively. So I was away for awhile but plenty familiar.

I don't dislike the Xbox interface but the PS5 feels snappier and has fewer layers to its menus. I know where everything is on the Xbox because I've been using it forever, but pulling up the sidebar, cycling five tabs over, going down three options to find settings is kinda silly.

Same with trying to get to Game Pass rewards/quests. Side menu, tab over five menus, profile, scroll four more, etc. The overall interface is also just a lot more utilitarian, like the ghost of Windows 8 / Windows Phone where they really want you to use tiles and squares and love it, goddammit.

I don't know that the PS5 OS is better, but from an average consumer standpoint, it's flashier and more user friendly. I'd say the same thing about PS Plus and PS Store integration - I know people who own an Xbox and don't really understand what Game Pass is. PS Plus is so in your face and they make it really clear there are different tiers to the subs and what each one gets you.

PS+ Extra is going to be my imaginary friend I borrow games from and I'm very happy Playstation is competing with Game Pass.

The only Playstation I've ever bought in my life is the PS3 during Black Friday 2011. I wanted a BD player and have never bought a single game except for the Ratchet and Clank All 4 One / LittleBigPlanet 3 that came included (I barely touched R&C and never touched LBP3). All the games I've wanted to play I've borrowed from friends after they're long done with them (namely the entire God of War series on PS3, Uncharted 1-3, TLoU, and MGS4).

Most of my adult friends are on Playstation now but they don't game too much and don't buy too many hardcore games. Same with my coworkers. I have less people to borrow from nowadays so PS+ Extra is extremely valuable for "new" Playstation owners like me (well, I don't own a PS5 yet but I will eventually after I upgrade my home theater.) Ideally, I'd just wait for all the PS first party games to hit PC and have my cousin family share with me on Steam. I'm going to keep mentioning my huge backlog though so I don't even know when I'd even get around to another console ecosystem

Yeah, PS+ Extra has closed the gap with Game Pass. I have a couple years of Premium left after converting my basic PS+ by buying 1 month of the old PS streaming service before the new tiers were added. I checked out how much it would cost to buy another year of Premium with the 25% discount - $90. More than I'd like to pay (I miss the days of cheap 1 year PS+ subs). I'm hoping the Gold to GP conversion works next year when I need to renew.

Rewards is definitely better, but like trying to explain Game Pass to my BiL, MS Rewards requires more engagement to utilize it well. PS Rewards is well integrated into the mobile app and it's easy to see 'quests' and what completing them gets you.

I have PlayStation Plus Premium and it’s better than I thought it ever would be but it still doesn’t work for me like GamePass does. 90% of what is added to PS+ Extra are older games that can be bought dirt cheap like Ubisoft games (or ironically Bethesda games recently).

Even if most of them are indie, probably 75% of what is added to GamePass is new so I don’t own them already. And it’s often stellar indie games like Cassette Beasts, Chained Echoes, Planet of Lana or Fuga 2 that I would have bought. Not to mention great AA/AAA games like Wo Long, MLB The Show or Monster Hunter Rise. To me AAA first party games aren’t the biggest draw.

Anyway, PS+ and GamePass are still completely different animals IMO. If you are new to gaming or either ecosystem then both complement each other quite well. I just personally find more of my needs are met with GP.

I agree after reading this, Xbox has dont a great job courting indies and has way more day-one games as well as promoting smaller games which would otherwise get buried by all of the releases that come out these days.

I think my take on it right now boils down to... Game Pass and MS Rewards are like 4k movies - they're the best option if you're invested in the hobby. The PS5 offerings are solid enough to be competitive and, like 1080p, a lot of folks either can't tell the difference, or don't care enough to go to the trouble.

Yep, my girls (5 and 7) are obsessed with it, more so the 5 yo. She loves singing and dancing to the music. But I agree, the costumes definitely give me a XIII vibe

There's a settings shortcut on the top right corner of the home screen. Profile is top left. Square ENIX is one of the most baffling companies to ever exist. They completely ran Final Fantasy into the ground, mismanaged some of the best games in the past decade and sold the Ips, had the rights to make a game based on the highest grossest movie ever and just floundered it.


And they made a collection of some of the greatest games in history and just go out there way to make sure it’s not on all platforms and that physical editions are hard to obtain.

I would have to disagree on completely running FF into the ground. They definitely lost their guiding light when Sakaguchi left, but that was 20+ years ago. Since then the mainline games have been up and down, but I say the only real failures are the extended XIII trilogy, XIV 1.0, and the mess that was XV. While that sounds like 3 games in a row, there is definitely nuance there. The real issue is treating FF as another themed skin to slap in anything to move copies, like these junk mobile games or Chocobo Racing.

As for the pixel remasters, they have been treating these strangely since day one as they were primarily targeted at the Japanese mobile players with everything treated as an afterthought.

Square-Enix is definitely run by very old-school Japanese business men, and their bad decisions run way outside the scope of just FF.

Good points. Dragon Quest, thankfully, has not been over-saturated or driven into the ground - quite the opposite, so it's definitely not all-or-nothing.

Mostly, I wish they'd take some pointers from Capcom, who have done a wonderful job breathing new life into beloved IPs while still maintaining the essence of what made those games beloved in the first place (RE, Monster Hunter, Mega Man 11 plus very well done retro collections, SF6 apparently).

After the auto-redeem hit I bought SF6 as a sacrifice to the gamepass gods. One button SPD is yummy.

For D4, on world tier 2 with mostly main story and some dungeons along the way, I got my horse at level 38. YMMV of course, but as as idea for actually how long it takes. Feels so much better, I then proceeded to make my other alts.

Cashed in a $25 GC from rewards points and bought Star Trek: Resurgence via microsoft.com yesterday, reviews are very solid and I want to show demand for the IP. Good to know, and the OS also does a good job of syncing those settings for people who own multiple systems. Another example of it being perhaps better overall, but not casual friendly.

FYI the spend $25+, get $10 bonus is still active for MS Cashback. If you load the plugin in Edge for the sidebar, there should be a button at the top that says "Get $20 Bonus" since it works a total of two times.

Cashed in a $25 GC from rewards points and bought Star Trek: Resurgence via microsoft.com yesterday, reviews are very solid and I want to show demand for the IP. The cashback already posted to my account ($2.80) and waiting to see how the $10 bonus is applied, will update when (if?) it does. Assuming it works in this way, it's quite a deal. Combine it with the Costco discount and yr a regular Steve McQueen.

Thanks for the reminder on that offer. Has anyone else had a hard time getting non-MS transactions to show up on Microsoft Cashback? Seems to be very hit or miss for me

The $20 Dell reward I earned from www.alienwarearena.com last month never showed up, so I sent them an email and they replied back today after they manually added the reward to my account (woot).  After this month's rewards, I should be able to get something nice and full price from their website.

I didn't get the $10 reward even though I did 20+ days last month. Guess we'll see if I get anything this time.
