• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
• On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

When I was looking into it the other day a lot of the community seemed to think Omocat is diva, with past instances of strange decisions and ignoring all requests for information. Seems like a Phil Fish situation to me. Even if there is an NDA for why the game was dropped, they should at least be able to confirm if it's permanently delisted or something, currently there doesn't seem to be any official statement or even acknowledgement of the situation.

-Escalation Slayer (Gun Game) is being added to Halo 3 including a Fiesta variant

The price of GPU is going up on 8/13 for current subs; already too late if you had let it lapse. That's why it's foolish to wait once prices are higher and breaking even with today, or worse. Also, they already took away the $1 conversion trick once before so there's honestly no good reason to wait at this point unless you want to gamble on pennies.

Because the price of GPU is going up on 8/13 for current subs, you are suggesting that the post-conversion rate is going to get nerfed due to the increased price, right? So if you converted after 7/6 at the 3:2 rate, your post-conversion rate is already lower than those who converted before 7/6 since you already have the higher price? Can anyone who did the 3:2 rate confirm this? If you did get a lower post-conversion rate that reflects the higher pricing of GPU, you would think that gets reflected in the Game Pass Ultimate FAQ. If I'm misunderstanding then please clarify for me. Otherwise, my assumption is that the current 3:2 pre-conversion rate already reflects the updated pricing from 7/6 and will stay that way until there is another hike at which point you can reassess pre/post conversion rates in time before the hike happens.

Also, they never took away the $1 conversion trick; they took away the $1 Game Pass Ultimate promo but the conversion was never associated with it being $1.

PSA: You can pay whatever you want for Ultimate and it converts all the same, be it a 1 month trial (new members only) or standard (new and existing members) code, $1, $14.99/$16.99. It's all the same. Only thing I'm not sure about are those 7-14 day promotional codes. If you need to pay for Ultimate, best bet would be one of these non-stackable codes (pricing can fluctuate but usually under $10 with good deals being in the $2-5 range) https://gg.deals/subscription/xbox-game-pass-ultimate-1-month-non-stackable/ (or just do what Bloomy does and grab some super cheap ones off eBay)

I originally just had the non-ultimate, but, some games require the ultimate to play on Gamepass; Gears 5 I believe or might have been Hivebusters. I dont think its widespread, but, its not just PC/mobile you get access to with Ultimate.

There are no Ultimate-only games, just Ultimate-only game editions (like Gears 5 GOTY that includes Hivebusters but Gears 5 base game is still available on non-Ultimate).

Well that stinks. Good while it lasted though. My GPU expires 4-9-2024. I have a little over 563,000 MS points. Are people here using their points to get GPU subs on the MS store? I will definitely be using my points to buy the next MS system but will have plenty by the time that gets released. Is there a reddit thread or a post here going over the best way to max out GPU with your current sub whether that means using MS points or buying codes elsewhere?

GPU is definitely better than regular GP seeing as ultimate comes with EA play and lets you play online.

This is a bold claim. I have played the revamped version some but not a full playthrough or anything. I don't think it would be possible to turn 2077 into "one of the best WRPGs ever" just by fixing skill trees and overhauling gear. Most of the games' strengths are in the presentation and writing, I think most of the framework around it is still lacking and that holds it back.

As an overall package I wouldn't put it above New Vegas, Mass Effect 1/2, KotOR II restoration, maybe Witcher 3, other than visuals of course.

I have no idea how terrible the skill trees or gear were at launch but I enjoyed what I played since the big update in Feb 2022. I agree with you regarding the strength of the presentation and writing. I absolutely love all the little diegetic lore bits strewn across the world. Other open world activities are a bit lacking though. I also found the game a bit too easy after decking my V out in cyberware (Annihilation build). Very, very excited for updated police AI, cyberpsychosis, revamped perks/skills, and vehicular combat in the Phantom Liberty update!!!

Did you use a 1 month GPU code to convert last time around or did you pay directly through Microsoft? I don't know if you caught my posts earlier this month and late last month but I was able to cancel my sub outright because I paid the $1 directly to Microsoft instead of using a code.

I've played a ton of AEW since the 29th, but took a break a few days ago to try out Arcade Paradise. Fantastic game that really gets the 80's/90's vibe of the arcade scene. They play with the time frame a bit - some of the games and pricing are anachronistic - but it doesn't ruin the vibe at all.

What messes up the vibe for me is being in my 40s and feeling like keeping up with the laundry in the game has to come before playing the Arcade games even after the arcade starts earning more than the laundromat.

After I finished unlocking the final unlockable character (100 matches took forever) in AEW I have not had any reason to turn it back on. I really hope they finish the game in future updates.

The TA forum for the game has a thread about downloading the Android APK using a 3rd party installer.  Don't know if the Windows package will be available through alternative means (people found ways to download the Windows 8 installers when they were officially delisted), and don't know what will happen with the iOS version.

I got the gold medal achievement last month, just leaving me with the achievements for level 250 (currently 201) and 500 games played (299).

Damn, missed opportunity to cancel early and reup for 3 years. It is what it is though. No one could've known they'd nerf the 1:1 conversion though. The CAG in me almost didn't want to cancel 1 month early (because it'd be a "waste" of a month) but I'm glad I made the right call. For future reference, I THINK if you pay for Ultimate to convert again through Microsoft you can still cancel outright in the future (should you ever need to weigh that decision). I used a 1 month code this time around so I can't test.

There’s still the CMA but I’m thinking MS will either use this to help push a deal with them or maybe they will carve out the Uk for Activision games, I don’t know. But I don’t think they’re going to let the CMA stop them at this point.

And technically the FTC can appeal but MS could close in the meantime and make it more unlikely to succeed.

Yes I noticed that today. I had my goal set to three months of Ultimate and it changed to a $5 Xbox GC. I then checked the rewards and they are gone. I knew I should have redeemed three months for 36,000 points. I recently bought a couple of three month cards from Eneba to extend my ultimate to the end of March 2024. Hopefully it will be back soon and they do not raise the point cost too much.

In the end, mergers of this magnitude only hurt consumers in the long-run. It results in layoffs, reduces consumer choice, and increases costs and obstacles for new industry players. Doesn't matter what industry it is.

But hey, let's give our hats off to another M&A.

Nothing really positive comes from mergers - especially ones this big.  MS would have done far better for the economy and the industry had they spent $69B to make new studios -- just think how many new studios/game projects you could fund with $69B, not to mention all the new game developers you could employ and new creative ideas you could bring.

But nope, MS opts to spend that on a third-party publisher, and one that basically lives/dies on one property.  How exciting (sarcasm). 

What irks me the most is not the merger (we're past the point where our governments ACTUALLY regulate/care about consumer interests), but all the possibilities MS could do with that cash instead of lining the pockets of Activision and its truly awful, despicable CEO Kotick.  Talk about an example of someone who fails upwards.

If MS' past dealings are any indication, buying Activision is not going to result in a resurfacing/renaissance of past catalogs.  MS seems phenomenally incompetent at managing studios and IP.  This is a company that bought Rare at the height of its popularity and somehow, some way, managed to drag it into the ground - obliterating each/every notable IP it had.  All we got was a bad PD prequel, a Conkers remake, a cheaply made Battletoads, and a mediocre Banjo game.  It's hard to have much/any confidence in MS doing more than paying people to have games on a subscription service.  From a creative standpoint, MS is about as attractive as a 90 year-old zombie. 

The solace I take in big M&As is that as much as they are bad for the economy/consumers, there are countless examples of companies that fall flat on their face ... eventually.  Most recently, Musk's $44B takeover of Twitter has been crowned THE example of an M&A bust.  Whatever companies may THINK they're doing is right, the reality can be quite different.

Indeed, even Disney's takeover of Marvel and Lucas have started to show visible cracks.  Disney may have made money hand over fists at the start, but no question the company's "monopoly" on historic franchise IP has now resulted in multiple and consistent failures punctuated by poor stewardship and mismanagement.

I always think competition is good.  In that sense (and that sense only), may be MS' wallet-approach will rekindle a greater (and bitter) rivalry between them, Sony, and Nintendo.  That's at least good for everyone. 

Not good is MS using its slush fund from its Windows platform "monopoly" to essentially corner/buyout the gaming competition.  The Activision deal reeked of this sort of approach, which the FTC was right to scrutinize.  Unfortunately, the agency terribly mishandled it at the final litigation stage.  The consequence being now that if a $69B merger is deemed okay - what exactly is the bar anymore?  Is there even one?

We should expect now a flurry of buyouts/mergers (certainly less than $69B).  Sony will probably announce several "big" ones by the end of the year.  MS, I'm sure, has more acquisitions on the way as soon as they clear this one up with the UK.

Again, none of this M&A is good.  It means we're going to get less and less innovation and almost assuredly fewer single/double A games. 

Nintendo - as well as they may be doing - could also be left looking awfully small(er) pretty soon, unless they too get involved in the same sort of buyout game.

In an ideal world, all 3rd party games and publishers would remain 3rd party. However Sony drove Sega out of the console market and were angling to do the same to Xbox. What did you want Xbox to do? Just bend over and die?

Learn some video game history. Sony got into this business by buying the largest 3rd party publisher at the time called Psygonosis and immediately renamed them to Sony Interactive Entertainment. How do you think Sony got most of their studios? By acquiring them, many of them were 3rd party as well... Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Housemarque, Sucker Punch, etc...

It was Sony using their position as market leader that raised prices of their consoles and made games $70 standard this generation forcing Microsoft and 3rd party to follow suit. They made Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo exclusive and were going to do the same with Starfield. Could you imagine Sony with exclusivity to the best Japanese and Western RPG of the year? How does Xbox even recover from that? We ALREADY see many 3rd party games skip the Xbox platform entirely! All while the media cheerleading Sony for acquiring another exclusive while criticizing Xbox for doing the same.

At least ALL 1st party Microsoft games come day and date to PC as well. Have a top of the line $10k PC and want to play Starfield at 8k 240fps? Well you can do that. Want to play Final Fantasy XVI on PC? Well too bad... you'll have to buy a PS5 and play FFXVI at 720p 30fps... Want to play a Sony game on console and PC? Well too bad, you'll have to buy the game twice! That'll be $140 please!!

Not too mention that all of ABK's catalog of games both present and future games will be coming to Game Pass essentially for "free" as long as you're a subscriber which is most of us here. The only demographic that doesn't benefit from this deal is Sony and as the Judge eloquently said, this isn't about Sony, it's about the consumer.

Like many of us were told to buy a Playstation just to play Spider-Man. Want to play Starfield? Buy an Xbox.

I think it's important to keep in mind this does relate to the entertainment industry.  This is not utilities, food, clothing, housing, etc.  These regulatory agencies shouldn't have too much authority where the impact is discretionary time and money for consumers.
