Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-16
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

Yeah kind of sucks losing that 7% cashback on MS digital games, was a nice when pairing it with MS Rewards points back ... as long as MS never catches on they are still giving me 100 points back for every $1 spent instead of 10 points
I preordered the Phantom Liberty expansion on 9/20 and I have 7% cashback currently pending from that transaction. Maybe it's still around just not advertised. Much like the per dollar points from the old days. (I'm still at 40 per $1)

My normal Bing searches: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 a b c d e f g
I think they may have recently cracked down on this type of search behavior. But if you're able to redeem your points for gift cards just fine then carry on!

Pro tip: What I normally do complete my desktop search is to play the Bing Shopping game on Edge. If you open each product in a new tab (CTRL + LMB on the "See More" button), that counts as a search. As you're going through these products and looking for the correct price, you'll hit 150/150 in no time.

For unknown reasons, the game is borked on my regular Edge browser (it's stuck at "Come back tomorrow to play again"). When I use Edge Canary, I can play the game but sometimes it asks me to login to Microsoft Rewards for some reason (in which case, I don't actually get the points). Also noticed that if I try to put the browser in my vertical monitor so that it only shows 3 products instead of 4, it'll ask me to sign in; if I leave it on my main window where it shows 4 products, it works just fine. So weird. Anyway, I stopped using the shopping game script since Microsoft starting cracking down more on earning points.

A part of me wants to say I don't care for GameStop and I want nothing to do with re-upping my pro subscription, then they just fucking drop a massive megaton sale for Pro members where I've dropped over $380 and I just realize "Fine, I'll goddamn re-subscribe to this evil membership for this damn company."
We like the stock! We like the stock! Diamond hands! To the moon!

If MS cracks down on pointless searches for points then I am done. My searches are 1-34 on edge on my PC and 1-20 on my mobile device.   If MS does not like that and bans my account so be it.   I am to the point I am only using rewards to keep extending my Game Pass Ultimate time and occasionally cashing in points for XBox gift cards.

I might stop using MS Rewards once I hit 26k points to cash in on a $20 Amazon GC. Currently at 22k and I'm earning a lot less monthly now than I was. The rewards app on Xbox is basically useless now with the only points coming from weekly streaks and a few random 5 pointers. I don't have GP so I don't get those quests. This grind ain't worth it anymore for like 12-13k a month.

Yea, having Game Pass makes this worth it. It pays for Game Pass plus leaves a lot extra for whatever. Since they lowered all of the amounts on the Game Pass quests they must have added more someplace else because I have been making even more than ever. I cashed out to buy a shitty AEW game when that was out and I already have 100K again, and that is with losing 10k a month for more GPU.

For my desktop searches, I start with the US News heading under Videos.

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=us+news&FORM=HDRSC4

If my browser ever gets closed out, I go from the "Points breakdown" link at the top of the home page, to PC Search, which lands in a "us news" search under a "News" heading, then click the Videos heading.

Videos provides a bunch of categories at the top (US and world news, us latest news today, etc.) which I open in a bunch of new tabs.  I'll then pick one of the tabs and click through the categories at the top of that page, since the first page doesn't provide enough categories to cover the daily searches.  I think the regular News heading had the categories to quickly click through, but removed them at one point.

On mobile, I start from the same place on the home page (Points breakdown -> PC search), which lands me on the same "us news" search under a News heading.  There are "Top Stories", "Sports", "U.S.", etc., searches under that News heading (which is the same as the PC search).  I click through all of those searches, then scrolling down a little there's a "Trending on Bing" section which lets you click through headlines as searches (that section isn't on PC).  No new tabs here, I just click through them in the same tab and keep it open.  The following day, I'll back button through them, which counts again.

Back that ass up! Are you for reals??? This is the real pro-tip right here!

Couple Game Pass date moves : ANVIL : Vault Breaker and Townscaper both moved from Dec 1 to Nov 16.  Don't know if there's anything to read into there, but it wasn't that long ago that Trek to Yomi and Turnip Boy had their dates shift from Nov 1 to Oct 16, and they both ended up in the official list.

Both hit 2 years on Game Pass around that time.  ANVIL is still marked as Game Preview.  Townscaper appears to be a pretty quick completion, most estimates on TA are under 1 hour.

Only other shift was Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery, going from Nov 1 this year to Nov 1 next year.

Frog Detective makes sense since it's coming to consoles. I imagine Darktide (PC) will also get a shift to next year with the release of the console version.

There is a "cool down" period where they don't count again, so if you don't search until late at night and then search again shortly after the daily roll over, they won't count. I imagine the people doing the digit searches experience the same thing. But if you do them about the same time every day, it works.

I was actually curious about that one, but you appear to have answered it. I append "(PC)" on the fly to titles if they are only on PC, mainly to differentiate ports that aren't flagged on their own, like a lot of the ACA NeoGeo games. That leads to some oddities, like some titles ending with (PC) (PC), that need some cleaning up.

I had Darktide (PC) listed for Dec 1, but that listing disappeared from my latest scan, replaced with a non-flagged version that isn't available for purchase. Appears to be a base version available to GP. I guess the console version was added to that store entry. It now has an off-cycle date of Oct 18, which may be when it releases. It is part of Launch and Imperial bundle listings that say they are available from Oct 4 to Oct 18.

I don't see the point in stopping an activity that nets me free money every month. With the current economy, every little bit helps even if we're not getting as much as we used to get. And even with the desktop and mobile activities involved, it really isn't that much of a time investment.

Spent some time with Starfield. It's... Fine?
Normally in games like this, it's easy to immediately run off and get lost in side quests. The individual planets separating things you can do and where you can go forces it to be a lot more linear in the beginning, I'm sure it opens up more but the main storyline is just not that compelling.
I don't think this is a spoiler because it's literally in the first 20 minutes but
artifacts? That cause visions? First Picard S1, now Bethesda, are we just ripping off Mass Effect for everything now? I immediately felt less compelled to advance the story.
I'll probably keep at it but so far... The Outer Wilds did Fallout-In-Space a lot better.
That’s about how I feel. I loved the Elder Scrolls games before but Starfield just isn’t doing anything to pull me in. Could be massive open world games aren’t my thing anymore. After 20 minutes of playing, I immediately want to play something else.

In the US at least, I'm still earning over 20K MS rewards points a month.

And thanks to the glitch where redeeming 12K for a 1-month GPU code instead gave us 3 months along with Xbox Ambassadors my sub is maxed out.

I usually look up a movie or TV show then use the cast as each search. No typing, just click on the next cast member every few seconds. Different searches yield different results too so it's not 1-2-3-4-5 every single time.

For a game about the endless expanse of space, it doesn't really do a great job (at least in the beginning) of giving you a sense of scale or wonder. It literally starts in a mine deep in the ground on a backwater planet, then you're in a tiny room, and the space travel actually feels really stationary. Even for combat, this feels especially bad due to the fact that so many games have done space travel and combat so well going back 20 years - Rogue Squadron comes to mind. Either make the dog-fighting exciting or don't do it at all.

Also, they have spaceships but I can't get a hover bike or simple ground transport to explore barren wastelands? I do appreciate that you can select multiple landing spots, but that only goes so far when you're still hoofing it like it's the Australian outback.

The story would have been cooler if humanity had become space-faring but had trouble finding habitable worlds and Earth was increasingly unable to support human life. Explore, explore, explore, multiple endings and outcomes based on who you side with and how you play your character. Fix Earth's atmosphere? Partner with other factions to share technology to find a new planet? Play selfishly and humanity parishes?

Bethesda, I accept Venmo, Paypal, or a simple check will do.

It's not you, it's Starfield

Starfield has started to become and unplayable, buggy mess for me. First I had a quest line that is stuck and I am unable to progress. Now I have
a quest to go talk to a character that already died in my game
. So I have a quest that is impossible to complete. I was really liking the game. I am more of an Elder Scrolls over Fallout player and Starfield was settling somewhere in between but it was not ready for release if your game softlocks players out.

To be fair, some things like that are really hard to test in QA for until more people have played it. Compared to most Bethesda games, Starfield is actually relatively game-breaking-bug-free.

I agree with you, though, if it's a main storyline quest, that kind of softlock should never be an issue.

I decided to do a breakdown on my monthly Microsoft Rewards earnings.  I counted a month as 30 days.  I didn't count points from buying games, tasks that I don't do often like the shopping game, or some small things like the +5 links in the Xbox app.  I used an estimated average for rewards that vary.  EDIT: Fixed a few numbers.  Everybody can stop quoting me!

So your job is collecting MS Points, got it.

The problem is it's not really open world. More like a bunch of fish bowls. The Elder Scrolls games were way better.

I can't bother with all the Game Pass quest stuff but clearly there's more I could be doing points-wise. Right now I have auto-redeem turned on for one month of GPU for 10.5k points and usually break even or get 12-13k (I think). I figure it all evens out in the end of it prevents me from spending real money on things I want and use (like Game Pass).

I think this is where Outer Worlds excelled. Although there were only a small number of planets within a single solar system, each one had it's own personality, towns, objectives, etc. and there was a real sense of familiarity and world-building. Not to mention the writing was frequently very funny.

It pays better than being a cranky bastard. :boxing: (seriously though, I like your posts)

It's not that time consuming once you streamline the activities. Most of the tasks boil down to launching an app, mindlessly clicking links (searches, daily sets), or playing something on Game Pass (gasp). The list is deceptively long since most of the weekly/monthly/streak stuff automatically completes if you do the dailies. Is the effort worth $300/year? For me it is, but for other citizens of Cheap Ass Gamers, it might not be. I mostly made the post to give an idea of what the upper limit of monthly MS Rewards is.

Goddamn I can't wait for Outer Worlds 2. I Still loved how they got me to think "this space preacher is a total dick. Why do I want him in my squad??" to going on his character quest and then going down a drug trip with him was one of those great moments where I pounded on my table and basically went "Damn, Obsidian! You did it again!"

Also watching Obsidian's story as a developer where they always somehow get screwed by budget, time, publisher or whatever; I am glad that Microsoft acquired them simply for them giving time to really do whatever and whenever they want. "Honey I Shrunk The Kids survival game? Yeah, sure do whatever you want."

Whatever works for you.... I was in when I could either 1/month or 1/2months collect enough MS Points to get a $10 xbox credit. Then the monthlies went from like 5k(4k) to 3k to 1k then like 1k every 3 months...

It's just gotten to a point where I say:

Yep, all of the companions had unique stories and personalities. Not all of them were likeable but that's kind of the point, you had opinions about them. The first two companions you get in Starfield (the robot and then Sarah) are pretty devoid of personality, they just feel like check-marks and pack mules.

Does this include the workout/exercise videos?

I've been selling my small collection of Xbox One disc games and some of my PS4 games.  Besides the delisted Forza games, none of the Xbox games are worth much.  Killer Instinct Definitive Edition (sealed) was worth much more than I was expecting.  Meanwhile, I sold my sealed copy of God of War (2018) for $60.  PlayStation peeps are wildin'.

I've been easily getting enough to get the 1 month xbox live ultimate.

What? My local Walmarts still have God of War 2018 for like $15. Are you saying this is a rare game?

Maybe it was the sealed non greatest hits version. Feel like collectors would want that
Yup, blue label. The plastic wrap actually had a small rip in it so I got a little less than some other copies are going for.

Outer Worlds was compelling and had great worlds and stories. The devs did a great job of incorporating morally ambiguous decisions where you were good or bad either way. The exploration was fun and the writing gave the game such life. Even with Elder Scrolls, they pushed you into an open world through a compelling story that got you invested in the world. I don’t want to spend 20 hours to maybe find that point in Starfield. It didn’t take long to get bored and frustrated when I got to New Atlantis. Does the future not have street signs or maps? I didn’t know if Starfield was going to be for me so I didn’t have high expectations but I didn’t think I’d be this disappointed. I never could get into Fallout because of the building stuff and post apocalyptic worlds aren’t my thing but they do a great job of storytelling.

On one hand it's a bummer to hear that Starfield is starting to sound more disappointing and showing how out of the date the 20+ year Creation engine they've been using... But on the other, I've got SO. MANY. fuckING. GAMES. To play that if there's one less "must play" game on my list then, well, honestly cool with that.

Also I've been playing so many indie and small development team games that I'm beginning to feel that weird itch of "FUUUUUCK. I WANNA PLAY A AAA OVERBUDGET GAME" which is a feeling I never thought I'd have, with that said I've started Chained Echoes and I can already feel it'll be awhile before I touch a game with an 8 digit budget and buzzwords out the ass. Like it's also at that point where I feel "yup, ready to play an Ubisoft tower climbing game."

For today's Alienware quest just share a article or anything from their site on Twitter (X), Facebook, etc.

I just clicked Facebook was not even signed in and it completed. On that note where is the games; I want my Dell Rewards points not just ARP lol

I decided to do a breakdown on my monthly Microsoft Rewards earnings. I counted a month as 30 days. I didn't count points from buying games, tasks that I don't do often like the shopping game, or some small things like the +5 links in the Xbox app. I used an estimated average for rewards that vary.

Read to earn (30/day) (900/month)

Mobile daily check in streak (90/week, day 7 bonus varies) (360/month)
Do you get those read to earn things every day? Haven't had one for a couple days.

What's the mobile daily check in?

I feel you. I finally booted up AC Valhalla on my Series X and I'm digging the scale, the spectacle, the budget! The RPG ACs are comfort food games for me.
I Clown on Ubisoft allot, but man, it does feel good every few times a year or so to look at a map and clear it of icons so it doesn't turn red anymore and get an achievement and an outfit or weapon to go with it. It's paint by numbers, but sometimes you just want to feel clever going into a "restricted area" and have people discover a dead body so they come to inspect it, only for you to kill them and start a pile that just begins shaking and twitching under the pressure of animating a mountain of bodies.

On the Ubi note, I really got bored with their games and how every game was pretty much the same but also somehow worse ( I absolutely adore watch dogs 2 but legion was trash, etc.) But I was really intrigued by AC Mirage so I picked that up. I've not really been a fan of the recent AC games since they kinda ditched stealth and went full RPG. I'm only maybe 3 hours in, but so far I'm absolutely loving it. Can't wait to get back into it, and it's bizarre feeling this way about a Ubisoft game again

Both of these are in the Bing app.
I have the Bing app on Android, but don't see anything tracking 30 points for reading news nor a daily checkin.

For the past week or two, I had a quest on PC. It showed 30 points on the rewards home, but wouldn't progress, just check off when I had all 30. But if I picked a news story from the Edge home page, my total would bump by 3. If I scrolled down to a new story, it would go until I got to the wall of ads indicating there were no more news stories. So I'd open a new one and keep going. Sometimes a pane would pop up saying I earned 3 points, then again once I hit 30.

Yep that's the same quest but it only shows sometimes for me; most of the time I do it in the Start app along with the daily check-in.

CRAP. When I said Bing app, I meant the Start app. I forgot I migrated to that a while back.

It will look like this after you click on the rewards section in the start app.
