Metal piano covers are pretty interesting, especially to people who might not be a fan of that type of music. You could play them the piano version and then the actual version and their reaction is pretty interesting. I always hope it helps those people see how beautiful a lot of metal really is at it's roots.

Anyway, I know most people probably aren't big fans, but I love this entire album, and this is the standout track on Cruelty and the Beast... And the piano version is particularly haunting/pretty.

Easy, my favorite cover of all-time involves my favorite band of the 1990s (the criminally unknown Bedhead) paying homage to my favorite band of the 1970s (Joy Division), with this gloriously ramshackle reworking of "Disorder", recorded to one mic in a single take on a one-off session at a small TX church.

Yes, they certainly are and it truly is beautiful music at it's roots. I've never been a huge Cradle fan but that was a nice rendition of the song. :applause:

What other metal albums or bands have you found with piano covers?

A good choice but I actually like their cover of Easy better.

I love the way they do that song. Have you ever heard Patton's Italian record? It's absurd but super cool at the same time.

It's a great tribute to the 60s cinema sounds coming out of Italy. He kills this tune. What Patton has going for him, that a lot of Patton fans don't realize, is that the tune was pretty good to begin with (Morricone composed it).

Patton's the kind of person who you just hope keeps working and working. Even though I don't care for some of the experimental stuff he puts out, I admire the effort. I hope something like what Kickstarter has done for classic/indie game producers would come along for similar figures in music.

My favorite covers of popular songs...

Rammstein - Stripped (Depeche Mode)
The Doors - It's All Over Now Baby Blue (Bob Dylan)
Shiny Toy Guns - Burning for You (Blue Oyster Cult).

I'd post the videos, but work blocks youtube.

[quote name='Chronis']I thought about it a minute... and it came to me. You can't have a thread about covers without Kids In America.

The Muffs "Kids In America" Kim Shattuck is my favorite female vocalist. When she screams, it just makes me smile. Check out The Muffs if you don't know them. Rock and roll, baby!

Metallica "The Prince" Cover of Diamond Head. I love this song so much. I love the original, also. This is a relentless, in your face, perfect song.

Motorhead "Hoochie Coochie Man" A b-side to the "Another Perfect Day" album. I listened to this the day I went skydiving with the girl I just broke up with. Haha! But I discovered this album when I did a radio show at Valpo. This is really great!

Waco Brothers "White Lightning" I've seen these guys around 20 times. Never fail to make me happy to be alive. It's a George Jones song.

Many, many more are in my brain, but I guess that's all for now. Listen to the Waco Brothers! Johnny Cash's "Big River" plays after "White Lightning". Both live staples.

Dolly Parton's vocals were a little too "casual" for this one. Jack actually sings it in a way that give the lyrics the appropriate vocals. Seriously though, Dolly Parton doesn't get near the credit she deserves as a songwriter. Whitney Houston died and they just overplayed a song Dolly wrote without even crediting her.

Does count as a cover if it is some no-name band covering some piece of shit I've never heard before?

+1 to the Muffs guys. They are great
