Playoff and other major bowl revenue distribution for 2014 on is set and just further goes to show that the power leagues are already pretty much separate from the rest. They'll average $91 million a year, while the other five leagues get around $17.25 million a year.

Just further proof of how tv/conference networks are driving this stuff. B1G is already playing hard ball with the DC/Baltmore and NY markets by threatening to keep UMD and Rutgers content off of the B1G network unless cable providers in those areas put it on basic cable packages which net's the conference a lot more money.

The 7 basketball schools are leaning toward leaving the Big East, and it would be an "upset" if they didn't per the report.

Not clear whether they would just leave or vote to dissolve the league. Apparnently Temple can't vote on dissolution as they're only a football member this year and don't become a full voting member until July 1 when they become a full member. So without them they have seven of 10 votes of current teams and can vote to dissolve if they're unanimous.

That would save them paying exit fees, so chances are good they'll vote for dissolution.

Texas Tech hired former QB, and current Texas A&M Offensive Co-ordinator and QB Coach Kliff Kingsbury as new head coach.

As I posted earlier in the thread, Fox/Newscorp recently purchased 49% ownership in the YES network and they already own a significant percentage of B1G, so don't be surprised if they sell them as a packaged deal in the tri-state area.

According to CBSSports the Catholic 7 are out. No article or details on the logistics of it yet.

My complete longshot that actually makes sense (so probably won't happen): Cincy to the MAC. Either way I see the MAC getting to 14 members soon when someone is left on the outside looking in during all this realignment, and they have been the most stable and geographically tight conference over the past few years.

The Bearcats to the MAC does actually make sense and you are right in saying that the MAC has been both stable and geographically tight recently. I also could see the MAC getting to 14 members. Good riddance to Big East football, I'd much rather they end up with a solid Basketball conference out of this.

I think Cincy probably ends up ACC or Big 12 when all is said and done. Could be a stop over somewhere like the Mac or back to CUSA etc. if the ACC and Big 12 don't jump to 16 right away.

So apparently the basketball schools can't vote to dissolve the league as the bylaws require at least 2 football schools to vote for dissolution. So they'll just be leaving and per the reports have decided to do so and are just figuring out how/when. They can leave with no exit fees if they give 27 months notice, but they may not want to wait that long.

The 7 basketball schools voted unanimously to leave the Big East. Press conference at 4:30 pm.

In football news, bowl season kicks off today. Have had the Arizona-Nevada game on in the background while working. Shootout as expected, 31-28 Nevada at the half (Nevada jumped out to a 21-0 lead, but turnovers let Arizona get back in it).

Toledo and #22 Utah State at 4:30 is the other game today.

As expected, WVU junior WR Stedman Bailey is skipping his senior year and will enter the draft. Not much reason to come back after the year he had and having a new starting QB next year.

Also more shake up on the defensive staff. CB coach was let go as I posted earlier, now Joe DeForest who called plays on defense has lost his Co-DC title and is now Assoc. Head Coach and safeties coach, and Keith Patterson (the other Co-DC this season) will be the sole DC next year.

we went skinny, we're hoping our skinny coach will convince receivers and quarterbacks to give wisconsin a chance. but give him a few years and he'll be the same size as BB, but hopefully not drinking as much.

There are no shortcuts. No do-overs. What happened, happened. Trust me. I know. All of this matters.

Big East talking to Fresno State and UNLV about joining for football. Rumored to be talking to BYU again too.

Looks like they're going for having a full west division to keep Boise and San Diego State from reneging on joining.

Interesting choice for the Badgers, off the top of my head I can't really think of another choice that would have been a no-brainer or anything. I hope it works out well for them.

I find it ironic that the Big East has so much of its football future riding on a bunch of teams way out West. I feel like it might be better for Boise St., San Diego St., and BYU to go the Mountain West route.

Boise State is considering staying in the MWC instead of going to the Big East next season.

They honestly probably should. As pathetic as the remaining Big East is (no SoS boost), and with no autobids after next year when the BCS ends and the playoffs start, there's no reason for them to go and take on all that extra travel.

I really think that the MWC would be a better fit for them, especially if San Diego St. and BYU are also there.

Duke just had a signature moment. Inside the 10 yard line about to score, game tied at 34-34, less than two minutes left in the game... Fumble the ball, give up a long touchdown, then have a pick six on the following drive to lose the game by two touchdowns.

Well... At least it wasn't a losing season. :-|

Hopefully now that all the media saw the awful offense in all of its glory, the pressure will build enough to ensure offensive coaching staff heads roll.

Oy. Terrible ending to a terrible season for WVU.

Holgorsen's seat is likely to get very hot as next year will probably be even worse with all the offensive talent graduating/leaving early.

I wonder if the Chiefs will draft Geno Smith? That's been the talk for the last couple months since it looked like they would have the #1 pick and they are desperate at the QB position.

Honestly I'm not much of a Chiefs fan (Bears fan living in KC) but I don't like either of the top choices. Geno was terrible in big games and pressure situations as was Barkley.

The two bowls I'm most interested are coming up. It's a shame they're both on weeknights (Fiesta & National Championship). I hope Kansas State can slow down Oregon's offense. They will get rolled if they try to get into a shootout. The Wildcats offense is good but is in no way built to score quickly and in bunches.

Also hope Notre Dame can hang with Alabama.

Probably. I'm hoping he'll fall to the Raider's, both as I'm a fan and Geno would benefit playing behind Carson Palmer for a couple years vs. getting thrown to the wolves right away.

I was pulling for West Virginia in their bowl. Gotta root for the Big 12 to represent the conference. I think the weather really put them at a huge disadvantage. They're build to air it out but they just couldn't get it rolling in the sleet.

Based on what I've heard on sports radio the city will riot if the team doesn't select a QB.

Weather didn't help. But Marrone just figured out how to stop WVU's offense. Third straight year we've lost to Syracuse (was a blow out last year too).

The other thing that really hurt was our 5th year starting center was academically ineligible. That hurt the O-line play a lot as he was the one that called out the defenses etc., and we had some snap issues, two safeties etc. as a result.

The run defense blew too which was a surprise as our run D had been ok most of the year, while the pass D was awful.

SDSU will likely go back to the MWC given Boise staying. So now what does the Big East do? They'll probably just reload and add more powerhouses. Western Kentucky and Arkansas State invite incoming, you heard it here first!

Feel bad for Cincy and UCONN since they've had decent teams in recent years. Though I'm not sure UCONN will stay that way post Edsall as they've dropped off a lot.

To a lesser extent USF. But none of the directional schools in Florida will ever contend since they just can't recruit with FSU, UF and Miami, plus all the other big time programs that come into Florida for players.

I could see the ACC trying to get to 16 to have more members in case some more jump ship for the Big 10 and/or Big 12. Would have to think that those decent Big East left overs would join Louisville in the ACC at that point, if not before if they want to get to 16.

Me too. But has to be teams that add value rather than just split the pie two more ways. So I don't see them adding say Cincy and BYU or whatever.

They've got to keep making a push for FSU and Clemson/Miami to ge the TV dollars up even higher than the current $20 million per team per year.
