Yeah, I'd say we'd be looking at individual releases 6 months-to-a-year after the boxset at best. It makes sense to try and wrangle $200-300 out of people while they can, mainly because... and I say this in the most mercenary sense possible... Bond DVDs and Blu-rays are a bargain bin product. There are so many of them that their biggest sell-through rate will be marked down to between $5-10, where people will see them and think "Why not?". It's like when the Blu-rays first came out, no one but hardcore fans were going to spend $20 on individual releases and, even if they did, were likely going to be highly selective with them. So, really, there's not much of a reason to discontinue the boxset as soon as possible. I mean, just look at the DVD releases from the boxed Ultimate Editions on... there were at least 3-4 different releases, each getting cheaper and cheaper as they went. I love these damn things, obviously, but it's a really tough series to sell physical copies of.

As a sidenote, I'm really disappointed in them simply reissuing the Quantum of Solace blu-ray. It seems clear that this set pretty much kills any chance of the previously announced QoS SE coming out, which is a goddamned shame. The deleted scenes and different ending alone made that a desirable product.

According to bluray.com it looks like QoS is even missing special features that were included in the original bluray release. Is this correct?

Is it possible that they'll release a separate QOS Special edition? Seems to me that Sony always does the 'movie cash' thing, so a new QOS (and probably a rereleased Casino Royale) with Skyfall movie cash on it would probably sell.

According to DVDPriceSearch.com, it's a match to Walmart's price of $186.28:

Hopefully this will go one for a little while and we'll get some further price drops as Walmart and Amazon go back and forth in seeing who has the lowest price.

I know this set is still 2 months out yet, but anyone think there's any hope that this might be available at release for < $150, or is that just a fantasy? I really want this, but that's a whole lotta money to spend, especially if someone going to have it for < $100 even when Black Friday rolls around.

I wish. I'm not entirely hopeful that we'll see single releases in the near future, too. Call me a cynic, but I can't see stores stocking up copies of "Diamonds are Forever" in huge numbers. As much as I might want them to.

I'm gonna hope for a Black Friday sale on this. Then I can sell my old Ultimate Edition sets and make out pretty well on the upgrade.

Definitely waiting on a $100 or less sale on this. I love bond, but not enough to spend $200.

Diamonds are Forever, along with Goldeneye, and Octopussy are getting individual releases in Oct. and sold exclusively at Walmart actually.

fascinating, thanks! do you have release info on the other as of yet unreleased films?

(I can never recall which ones haven't been released on Blu, and last night I was thinking to myself "oh, dude, I'm gonna watch You Only Live Twice tonight!"

I think only those 3 unreleased ones are coming out so far. They're probably doing them in waves most likely, and perhaps also making sure that some people still get the bigger set rather than buying everything individually.

Just a heads-up for anyone ordering from the UK. Everything but Quantum of Solace will be region free, the latter will be Region B locked.

You just made my day sir! I just sold all of my old box sets because I preordered this from the UK at amazon. I think it is around $135 or $140 from my pre-order price from UK amazon. The only bond movie that I own on blu-ray was quantum of solace. I didn't sell that yet. So now I'll just keep that and I have them all on blu-ray. Sold my DVD sets for almost the same amount as the bond 50 collection on blu-ray. Only about a $15 - $20 difference to upgrade all of them.

That's how it was in its standalone release too I believe, but yeah I'm not sure why it was locked to begin with, while the other titles released by Fox/MGM weren't.

Y'all know the 9 missing Bond blus are all coming out on Oct 2, right? They are store exclusives :

Walmart - Diamonds are forever, Octopussy, Goldeneye
Best Buy - On her Majesty's secret service, You only live twice, The spy who loved me
Target - A View to a Kill, Tomorrow never dies, The Living Daylights

Walmart has their three available for preorder at 9.96 each.

I knew about the WM ones, but haven't heard about the others being released the same time. Do you have a source for that?

1) sweet, thanks.

2) Crap, this means I have to shop at Wal-Mart.

On a more self-amusing note, I'd find it a blessing in disguise that Quantum of Solace was region-locked such that I couldn't watch it. Man, that film was aesthetically beautiful, but the plot was a mess and the villain hella uninteresting.

I'm both glad and annoyed that the final 9 unreleased Blu-rays are coming out. Glad, for the people who only want certain movies. Annoyed, because if they have the same new covers that the UK are getting, I'm going to buy the unreleased nine, the ones I already have, AND the fucking box. Because, again, I'm a goddamn whore.

Still, I'm not thrilled about the hoops that store exclusivity will entail. I do sincerely hope that everyone matches the $10 Wal-Mart price point, though. 3 for $10 and the other 6 for $20 isn't going to go over well.

I always look at Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace as two halves of a larger movie than QoS isn't so hard to stomach.

I'm more curious if Skyfall brings Quantum back into the fold because they could lay some reasonable groundwork with them for future movies if they play them off as a nemesis organization against Bond and MI6.

I agree about Quantum of Solace... it's really the only 'sequel' in the series, barring that godawful Diamonds Are Forever opening. I've warmed to QoS since it was released, but it would be a horrendously stronger film if they had, you know, finished writing it and toned down the goddamn shaky-cam.

To shed some light on your second thought... it's been stated in interviews that SkyFall is a completely standalone story. As far as I know, it shouldn't have anything to do with Quantum. In fact, a deleted ending of Quantum of Solace actually had Bond hunt down Mr. White and Guy Haines, but they cut it in order to give the next film the freedom to drop Quantum. So, I wouldn't expect to see anything dealing with Quantum in SkyFall. It's a shame, honestly, since I agree that it could have easily given them a nice villain sandbox to play around in, since it seemed obvious that it was being set-up as a modern-day SPECTRE. Given the reception to QoS and the time-gap, I'd be shocked if they revisited it after SkyFall.

I think the shaky cam came about from all the success it seemed to have in the Bourne movies, though yes, less of that would have been better. Tying up some loose ends would also have been helpful, though if a deleted scene had Bond getting Mr. White and Guy Haines, it would have tied up that end with Quantum.

There certainly was the potential for Quantum being the modern-day SPECTRE, though I can't see them going back to it with a movie coming out that doesn't have Quantum in it and is a stand-alone story. I know when they had SPECTRE out as the be-all nemesis organization against MI6, it ran for a few movies and was the main backbone across them.

We'll obviously see in a couple of months what Skyfall has to offer and watch the older movies in the meantime.

Should I spend the assumed $90 + tax + (shipping or gas money) for the 9 individual releases I'm missing?

Or should I buy all 22 for the $140 Amazon UK preorder?

Bear in mind that the Bond 50 box set does NOT feature individual cases for each film...that's what sealed the deal for me, I'm going to be buying the 9 solo releases to complete my set.

I've been thinking about that too. I noticed they completely changed the artwork which is kind of annoying. I doubt they will include those cool looking metallic slipcovers that the older releases have (except Quantum).

I've never ever cared about case artwork or slipcovers with the hundreds and hundreds of blurays in my collection until this one instance. I'm a huge Bond fan.
