Xbox 360 to PS3, why should I convert?

Recently my 360 died and after I get it back from Microsoft, I was thinking of potentially selling it to purchase a PS3. So from those of you PS3 owners, could you think of the big advantages of trading in the 360 for a PS3?

Thanks for the help!

You sure you only want one or the other? Getting both is probably the best idea.

Unless you want to just get the PS3 now and wait for the Jasper chipset or whatever it was that's supposed to fix RRoD.

If most of the games you are playing on 360 are multi-platform, and have interests in Sony's first party games (along with some interests maybe to watch HD movies, but not the console changing reason IMO), then go ahead and do it. Most multi-platform games are very similar between the two platforms and PS3 is a great platform to own also.

Not made of money....

1. blu ray (this is only important if you have an hdtv)
2. good games (little big planet, mgs 4, resistance, plus more on the way)
3. free online play (though not as robust as xbox live, but free is free)

Here are just some of the reasons to switch. I'm sure others can give more.

Well you don't have to pay for live anymore.... there's a lot of good games being released now and throughout the year. Plus hell you don't have to worry about the system breaking, as PS3s are pretty good machines. Overall, after you buy the system, you'll see that its the better machine overall. MS does get a lot of games, and some exclusive DLC... Fallout 3 (example); however mostly the PS3 matches the 360 library if you look at the releases that have come out this year, and will be coming out in the future.

I've used my PS3 for two things, Blu-rays and for Metal Gear Solid 4. If possible, I woud keep both, but if I were only to keep one, I'd keep the 360.

I'll tell you what I tell people to convert.

The 360 is for poor people. You can't afford a PS3? I bet you like forties too don't you?

Not true, I am poor as fuck but I have a PS3.

You can't be too poor if you have a 360 and PS3 can you?

I would dump my 360 if more people I knew:

a.) owned a PS3
b.) played certain titles on the PS3

I prefer the PS3 for a few reasons. One, it hasn't died thrice in my possession. Two, it's a lot quieter. Three, DualShock 3 is a better controller and lighter. Four, as things stand now, pre-NXE, I prefer the interface. Five, PS3 games seem to drop in price faster than 360 games. Six, it also functions as a great Blu-ray player. Seven, it allows you to use USB peripherals (I use a keyboard and USB headset with my PS3). Eight, there is a built-in wireless network adapter. Nine,...

Generally speaking, the 360's shitty hardware is what makes me want to invest more into my PS3. The only reason I still have my 360 is because more people prefer its online multiplayer service.
Five, PS3 games seem to drop in price faster than 360 games.
I wouldn't agree there. Many times, since there are less PS3 versions of games made (and less overall copies), I see it get clearance less likely than the 360 version (like with Burnout, Lego Indy, Sega Rally Revo, etc.). Also, since there are less copies, I tend to see less used copies come in (it's very easy to find a 360 game used a few weeks after release). But that's just what I noticed along with a few others I talked to. Everything else I agree. :)

Although for me, most all my friends are on PSN (compared to XBL). :)

I'm kinda poor too and I have a PS3. The reason is because I know that PS3 > Xbox 360 :D

and my gosu sense told me that I wouldn't have to deal with dying consoles like you would with a 360. Also it's cheaper in the long run since you wouldn't have to pay for online

I just went by what I regularly see in the Target Clearance thread. Whoops!

it comes down to game library really.
i have both and there is a LOT i like about the ps3 but if i had to own one itd be a 360 because it has more exclusives that i play or intend to play.
thats really what it comes down to.
if you play primarily online the 360 is better. for many reason, such as more people playing.
smoother interface/matchmaking.

like i said i like the ps3 quite a bit but head to head the 360 wins for me.
im on my 5th 360 too which sucks, but like i said its got the games i want to play most.

good luck with whatever you decide, theyre both pretty darn good consoles IMO

The only reason i have a ps3 is, resistance,Warhawk, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Socom,Resident Evil 5,Gran Turismo, Motorstorm, God of war 3, FFV13, and
GOD OF WAR III.

K im done, im not saying 1 system is better than the oth- nevermind, PS3 wins.

Thank you very, very much for your input.

Considering all of these, I'll most likely switch to a PS3 if I can find a way to finance it, or stick with the 360 if I can't.

Sometimes it pays to be ahead of the curve, friends can switch systems, but sometimes someone has to lead the way.

I mostly regret the PS3 purchase and i rarely use it for blu ray games or movies. I play a lot of PS2 games and PSN games sometimes on it.

Stick with 360.

My PS3 hasn't garnered much use since its purchase. I get my multi-platform games on the 360 (much better online support and Achievements). And I don't care at all about Blu-Ray.

Still, I suppose if you think the PS3 exclusives are better than the 360 exclusives, that'd be a reason to switch.

I like the trophy system on the PS3 better than achievements, if only more games supported it. I live the leveling up aspect as opposed to a large gamerscore. My favorite aspect of the PS3 lately is the video codec support. I can load up my pro duo stick and toss tons of movies/tv shows/general videos to the hard drive (i have a launch 60gig that still runs flawlessly). I'm off tomorrow and have already tossed a few fringe episodes on my PS3 so I can get caught up.

Right now my game purchases for the PS3 are limited to exclusives and titles I want that have trophy support, and if not I snag the 360 version.

It's all about the games. Are there five PS3 exclusive games you want to play? If not then forget it.

There's a lot of PSN stuff I really want to play right now but not that many retail titles that get me hot and bothered. I sold my first PS3 but when I can get another one for less than $250 (no credit nonsense) then I will pick one up.

Right now they are just encouraging developers to implement them (partially because some developers are running on strict deadlines here and have to get their games out before Christmas or the publisher will be angry. Also, developers already signed contracts with Sony that they did not have to be implemented). Most every PSN game is starting to get them now. Retail games getting them are increasing.

I definitely prefer trophies myself, but even if a PS3 version lacks trophies this year, I still won't buy the 360 version over the PS3 version unless it's beyond cheap (like Lost Planet: Extreme Condition).

My 360 just broke down on my for the 3rd time in 2 years last week. I am going to get it fixed one last time and then sell it. I'm just tired of worrying that my 360 will RR every time I turn it on. I just can't support something unreliable and will be sticking with the PS3 from now on. It also doesn't hurt that games like LBP, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, Socom: Confrontation, Valkyria Chronicles, etc are coming out before the end of the year as well. The one 360 game I would miss is Left 4 Dead, but I'm just going to get that on PC.

It's really too bad because the 360 has a lot going for it and it was getting a majority of my game time, but I'm at the end of my rope with it breaking.

OP i had 4 XBOX 360 all dead on me and i had 2 PS3 both didnt dead on me the first was the 20GB now i have the 80GB one now i'm happy with PS3 only

I wouldn't switch... I own both consoles and enjoy my 360 much more than my PS3... I use my PS3 to play PS2 games & Blu-Ray movies... only purchase Exclusive games for the PS3... all Multiplatform games I get for the 360... It is really hard to justify buying a PS3 unless you want Blu-Ray movies... or the few 1st party games Sony makes.

$200 core 360 + $30 20GB hard drive

$400 PS3

It's not hard to figure it out. Unless you're really wanting a blu-ray player. That's the only big difference. The 360 reliability issues aren't as much of a problem as they were. Newer systems work much better than old ones did.
Trophies just feel kind of pointless.. Hollow?

yeah, but if you need wifi then that 230 is now 330, which means you're getting a 70 dollar blu ray player. If you're comparing PS3 to 360 w/ wifi adapter. PS3 is expensive but its not a bad deal. For what you're getting, its a better deal than the 360 counterpart - Xbox Elite which STILL does NOT have Wifi included - back to 500 is you just happen to need wifi.

I thought Resident Evil 5 was multiplatform? If you prefer playing RE games on the PS3 controller, you have a good point there due to the familiarity of the controller.

I have both... If I was you I would just get a new 360 and go with that. The games really are pretty much the same on both systems.

I like the PS3 controller but I am not happy with how long it takes to install games, lack of games, and the price I paid for the thing.

A big factor for me to get a PS3 over a 360 was BC ability to play PS1 and PS2 Games on it.

Having a lot of oldschool RPGs from the PS1 and PS2 this was a HUGE factor as well as being able to play older games i never got a chance to play.

Also I cant stand the 360 controller. Its to bulky and heavy compared to the 6 axis. (I dont like rumble)

Blu-ray is another nice advantage. But if you dont own a hdtv their is no reason to start buying Bluray movies.

IMO the PS3 needs a 50dollar price drop to 349 and 449 to make it through the holiday season with good sales numbers. The 360 is dirt cheap and that is really the ONLY reason i would consider it because of the much lower cost.

keep your 360 and wait for the NextBox, you'll be ahead of your friends and will enjoy just about everything a PS3 has to offer in the mean time

the only games i'll miss out on this gen from the PS3:
-God of War 3
-Kingdom Hearts
-Naruto Ninja Storm(only one i really want to play)
but i can always go to a buddies house to try those games out

I've have 2 friends that have PS3's and neither of them play them
Blu-Ray is Great but we don't know if Blu-Ray will eventually surpass DVD's or not
maybe everything will be Fiber-Optic by then and we'll be streaming HD content

Microsoft is firesaling 360's off lately because they know that the console isn't going to last much longer before they need to introduce a new machine. 360 will die off just like the wii in 2-3 years from now. PS3 will be around for quite some time and considering this I prefer to go with the machine that's going to last longer. Also Sony has nearly 3 times the internal game development studios as Microsoft. So for every Microsoft first party exclusive you have 3 Sony first party exclusives to counter it. It's obvious which machine has the edge on exclusives...so I really don't see why people need a 360 these days, unless they love Halo. Even then, Halo 3 is coming to PC anyways...just like Halo 1 and 2.

WTF are you smoking?

It depends what kind of games you're into.

Exclusives for Sony

Motorstorm (racing)
LBP (censored platformer)
Valkyria Chronicles (Strategy)
Ratchet & Clank (Platformer)
God of War 3 (Action/Adventure)
Folklore (RPG)
Uncharted (Action/Adventure)
FF 13 Versus (RPG)
MGS 4 (Action - for now)
Yakuza 3 (action/adventure)
Way of The Samurai 3 (action/adventure)
Persona 4 (RPG - That's if you have a BC PS3)

Uncharted was *great*, and GOW3 probably will be as well. Valkryia Chronicles as positive buzz. Sony's been getting some of the 360's RPGs, but the 360 has a lot more exclusive content overall.

I managed to get a 60 gig with BC, but good luck finding one now.

If you can get both, get both. If you can't, I'd say stay with the 360.

I'm selling mine now.

A $500 PS2 upscaler and 1up show watching machine doesn't make much sense to me. That's all I've really used it for in the past few months.

You shouldn't convert. I've got all 3 and my favorite is EASILY the 360. Which also sucks because you know it will break, just a matter or when. I'm mailing in my 4th repair and eagerly awaiting console #5 since launch.

The PS3 is a nice system but if you've got a 360 already then that's the place to play. Achievement points are nice and Xbox Live is incredible, sure you have to pay for it but it's easily found for $30 or $40 a year watching the deals here. The PSN is free but it's crappy and I like the ability to chat with friends so easily and send them messages and see what they are playing and etc. Plus everything is tied to your one gamertag and can't easily be changed so if you suck on a game you can't make a new name and restart. Also there are more 360s out there so that's more gamers online to play, more used games available and more games produced which leadds to better deals.

There really are not a whole lot of exclusives anymore besides maybe God of War or Metal Gear that would be a system seller. There are some fun exclusives: Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, LBP, Resistance and yea whatever i'm forgetting but none is good enough to pay $400 to play.

Oh yea and the Wii, that's a joke. It's got a couple good games and a ton of gimmicks.

Thanks for the laugh, xbox fanboy. It's funny how you say PSN is crappy and fail to mention upcoming Home. It's also amusing how you imply that all the great games that are out on PS3 are not worth getting a PS3 for.

Then there is jer7583, implying PS3 is nothing more than an expensive PS2 upconverter, Nephlabobo, who dismisses PS3 and it's large collection of quality unique games with the argument that xbox has "more exclusive content", and greyzieoriental, who's post is so stupid that it defies comprehension.

You guys never fail to entertain.

A lot of LiVE users are actually beginning to complain about having to pay now that PSN has been updated to match everything LIVE offers and possibly more. Things like Home, and the newly introduced Capcom store.

Also, this is cheapassgamer so it's notable that the PS3 is cheaper.

PS3 - $400 comes with wifi, free online, blu-ray player, any 2.5" sata HDD compatible, comes with controller charger.

360 - I'll use the pros price because it has a 60gb HDD which is comparable to the PS3s 80GB - $300, wifi adapter sold seperate - $100 (we are now already at the PS3s price of $400), controller charger - $30 (or endless batteries), online subscription - $40 a year. And after all this you are left with no blu-ray still.

Why would you use Home to say that the PS3 is better? It hasn't been released and we'll see if it really is as good as they say it will be. All we've seen are delays and there isn't a set "release" time.

The Capcom store is a good idea but it's not anything that significantly changes how I buy games. I know which games Capcom releases and I don't need a store front to remind me. I check out the new releases periodically and download what interests me regardless of publisher/developer.

At this moment, PSN (even though it's free) isn't as good as XBL. For the record, I have both systems and I like them both. I might be biased because all my friends have 360s but I'm not going to say that the PS3 is garbage. That's not to say that PSN won't surpass XBL soon but we should let applications actually come out before we put that in the plus column.

Plus, like I said many times, I don't have many XBL friends and TONS of PSN friends.

I didn't say it made it better. I said PSN offers more stuff, Home being one of the examples. Life with playstation another. I'm using these objectively, whether you think these are better or not is up to the individual user. It's just more options for the end user that live doesn't have.

I have both systems but since my 360 isn't near a router and I don't want to spend $100 on a wifi adapter I only use PSN. I used a bridge connection on my laptop to try my free month of LiVE and I wasn't impressed. I didn't see anything PSN doesn't have that interests me.
