Gamestop 10% off open items YMMV

Now I know this isn't exactly a "deal", but I have been given 10% off opened new items three times already, and I have never seen this mentioned here. I would assume it's YMMV, but for those who want "insert clearance game" and all they have is the new open display case, you might as well try and see if they will give you 10% off because it's open. An extra 10% is better than nothing.

Kind of weird they would do that. They gut all their new games at my Gamestop. They'd have to give everything 10% off. Very YMMV.

so if they try to sell you an open game as new, you'll get 10% off
i stopped dealing with gamestop a long time ago, you should too

that's probably because all opened games at GameStop are used, there not necessarily purchased then sold back, but GameStop allows the employees rent out games and then sell them as new. I know this because I had a friend who used to work at GameStop.
can someone tell me what YMMV is?? im new.
your mileage may vary

so it may be different for everyone

They used to give 10% off if open, no box, etc.

Not anymore, they want to fuck you as hard as possible.

This might be a new thing though...probably YMMV, gonna try tomorrow.

If the employee is a shift leader, or higher, he'll give you the extra 10% off a "new" open item.
They've always offered but I almost never buy newesd games.

Just wanted to let people know since it's always offered to me. Just be polite and they might do it. You can pretend to hem and haw and you debate just leaving it.

This. I worked there 10 years ago and they did that. Now if they try to sell me an open one I have them call all the other stores in the area to find me a sealed one and put it on hold. Or if you don't really care but want to give them a hard time, ask them to go in back and seal it with the heat wrap.

You guys are talking about the shopworn discount but employees and managers are highly discouraged to give that discount. The discount is there only for highly damaged "new" items and then, only if the customer makes a fuss.

Yeah, I saw a manager doing this to darksiders. Any reason for them to do that? I only one I can think of is to have boxes up for display.

The discount is really only meant for accessories that were bought and then returned opened. If you get the discount on any games you are dealing with an employee that is clueless.

No gamestop employee is going to come from the kindness of their heart and give you a discount on a gutted product. Your gonna have to brag here :bomb: Either way, YMMV

i went to buy lego batman USED for xbox360 for 17.99. but they didnt have it on the shelf. they only had the 29.99 dollar one that comes with PURE.

so.. i asked if they had the game (at the register/look up) and he said "ya i have the game, its 17.99". and so i said "ok ill take it". then he said "ok he'll help you over there" (as in the other register guy//cuz he was doing other stuff that needed to be done).

i ask the other guy for the game after he helped the customer before me, and he gets the game in the sleeve from their dresser cabinet things -and they look for a case(not finding it of course cuz i looked and double looked).. and the guy i spoke to to see if they had it said he'll give me 10 % off if i just take a generic case! (heck yes).

so i got 10percent off for that (receipt says discount "shopworn discount" but idk if thats the real discount for that purpose or if they just used that to make giving me 10percent off easier for them)
and 10 percent % off with edge card

I just recently bought a 360 HDMI kit at GS with a 10% openbox discount, in this day and time I thought it was customary for retailers to offer a percentage off for items missing or in distressed packaging...

I'm adding "YMMV" to the title and moving to bragging/shopping discussions; this isn't a deal and it entirely depends on the store manager.

i work at gamestop and we are not allowed to rent the opened new games. only used games that we took in on trade. the games we have to gut go into the drawer and dont come out until they are sold.

that is exactly why we have to do it. we have to have boxes on the floor so people can see what games we have, and we obviously cant have games in the boxes on the floor. its either this or gamestop has to be like best buy or target and have glass cases or plastic cases on all the games.
also whenever you buy a gutted game they are supposed to reseal it for you. we always do at my store.
You mean reseal it by putting a little clear circle sticker on the case, that does not make the game magicly "new" again. You know this right?

At "your" Gamestop maybe. Not at most others however. There have been many times I have asked to buy a new game (gutted) and they couldn't even find the game in the drawer. Most logical reason: it's being "rented" by an employee.

Actually, I would much prefer for Gamestop to follow Target's lead. Line the walls with glass cases and put all the games behind them. It's not economically feasible though so GS wouldn't even consider doing it.

Or being the big corporation they are, they could order up some plain DVD cases for the entire chain and get the 'display only' coverarts(with no UPC barcodes on them) like friggin' Toys R' Us does and not HAVE to gut games.

But that might cost them .02 per case and maybe a penny per coverart and God forbid their profits go down at all to save some games from being fingerprinted, scratched and smudged by some clumsy employees while stuffing them into those sleeves and into the drawers they put all the disc only shit they have for sale.

But then how am I going to get the scoop from the oh so knowledgeable employees who are still totally fuckin' clueless when I ask them about the newest games? Oh wait. I'm not supposed to ask tons of questions, I'm just supposed to pre-order 30 fuckin' games that they rave about and claim I won't be able to find anywhere unless I pre-order.

The day Gamestop actually does something(like limiting trade-ins from shleps who bring in disc only games that're less than a week old)good for those consumers(many of us CAGs)who actually give a shit what their stuff looks like or cares about customers other than soccer moms and Joe Football is the day of the apocalypse.

It's also not logistically-feasible, considering how many GS stores reside in store fronts smaller than a bathroom. The most logical move would be to print up covers and put those out, but again, that would cost a few pennies, and GS isn't gonna budge on their current practices, because soccer moms and little kids don't care.
