Games Radar preview..

Pulling out onto the roughly paved boulevard, the soft purr of the V8 engine thrums like a caged panther. Sunlight glints off the hood of the torch-red Ford Shelby Mustang igniting a corner of the windshield with a dazzling lens flare. Gunning the engine with a tap of the gas pedal, a canary yellow Lotus Exige surges into view - you hit him with the headlamps and the race is on.

Test Drive Unlimited seeks to sweep car nuts into an entirely new realm of exotic automobile fantasy. This game focuses on more than the beloved racing elements we've come to expect from games of its type. It's about style, in addition to skill.

You begin by purchasing a home on the island of Kauai, where you lounge and store your hard-earned sweet rides (after you've earned them, that is). Once you've got your digs established, it's time to customize your appearance in detail that would make games based on character creation (like The Sims) weep fat, jade tears of envy. Swaddle your digital self in the latest fashions from Marc Ecko and Ben Sherman to ensure that your character looks as fly as your vehicle.

A nearly flawless replication of the island paradise of Kauai begs racers to exploit its every curve and straightaway. Even though there are still some months before this title screeches onto store shelves, the luxuriant environment of Hawaii's jewel already pampers the eyes with the vivid greens of the forest and crystal blues of the ocean.

Newer far more impressive trailer here!
Is anyone else excited about this game .
I can't imagine that there's much interest at this point. The racing genre is already overcrowded with PGR3, NFS:MW, RR6, Burnout: Revenge, & to a lesser extent Full Auto. Plus you have Moto GP 4 coming out soon as well. It's an extremely crowded market right now.

I dont know if it justifies a purchase. The whole MMORPG-ish concept sounds really intersting. For those of you who dont know much about it, you get to buy your own house(s) where you can store your car(s) the bigger the house the more cars you can store. Whenever you are connected to live as you drive around you'll see other users driving around that you can race. You can also drive to clubs where you can meet up with friends and then race them. It is pretty different but I'll have to wait and see.
I think the game sounds interesting.....I like the RPGish element. Isn't Hawaii where it takes places? Is that it?
Yes it is.

The Racing RPG sounds interesting. Seems like it's taking the whole 'show the car garage' thing to the next step.

Is there a list of cars released yet? It looks beautiful, the whole mmorpg/racing concept sounds amazing. All I need to hear now is a tuner aspect(somewhat, like how Midnight Club 3 did it like adding blowers and such) and American Muscle and I'll not only joy-gasm but will probably reserve this ASAP.

The tuner thing is cool , but it's nice to know everyone's car is the same like in Gotham .

One drawback of tuning is always watered-down default settings of the cars .
They handle like they have no springs or anti-sway bars and stop like crap .

Sega GT was pretty bad for that .

Actually, you make a very good point. I suppose the tuner aspect isn't a deal breaker, but add ons like blowers, neon, different exhaust kits, window tinting and such would be cool. Like only being able to change the physical parts of the car as opposed to the mechanics of it.

I agree . I'd like to be an individual , especially online .

Gotta read up some more on this one, but the Live aspect sounds really great. That alone has me looking forward to this one.

I don't know how or extensive or limited the announced customization of the cars are gonna be from what I've read in this thread, but I hope there's at least the visual aspect of vinyls like you could do in Forza. Loved making some artwork on that.

Sweet. They even have Ben Sherman stuff in there. Too bad I'm gonna miss this and every other release over the summer. Definitely a first pick up when I get back though.
Nifty. Are there gonna be weather effects like rain in the game? That'd be sweet. And night/sunset racing?
The only other detail I heard is that there will be police chases and they'll setup traps and stuff. Not sure how agressive or how much that will play into the game.

Maybe a nice little side trip onto the beaches for a shortcut. Old style Daytona. Except in Hawaii.

"Real" racing games never hold my interest for long.

There's nothing remarkable about the demo.

11 times out of 10, I wouldn't even consider a Test Drive game.

But damn does that onling/RPG element have me interested. I wish the demo included it.

I just played the demo again...it's pretty fun. I basically liked smashing into people and gettings COP chases. The cops basically just block the road and you get arrested if caught and a fine. I had the 3 shields lit up (GTA'ish). This basically puts THREE cops blocking one road.

I didn't even realize there were lots of problems with the game. I'll have to jump on then and get the update. Fun game, though some of the hitchhiker missions are a bit annoying if you're trying to get a perfect ranking.

I bought it two months ago, played it for a week and put it aside for Oblivion. I may have to start playing again.
I've played the demo a lot and liked that so I'm prob get this game, it deserves a buy for the creative thinking.
And the $30 price point..
ANyone still playing this game online? Picked it up at ebgames with the 35% off coupon and was seeing who all played still.
I'll hop on every once in a while. I'm trying to discover all the roads and get that achievement.

Even though the game is advertised as an MMO racing game, its most fun when you're riding solo doing all the missions and checking out the scenery.

NO WARNING:DO NOT BUT THIS GAME ok let me break it down for you Bad graphics,Boring gameplay, Absolutly NO replay value whatsoever unless u think driving around an island for an hour is fun then sure go ahead and the missions that they have u have to do meaningless tasks like drive a model to her desination for some clothing coupons just so u can dress your character....and if your a biker enthusiasts and think this game is the game for you you are wrong....the bikes cant turn at all bad turning radius plus u have to go in every car show room in the game to start going in bike show rooms honestly this is a big island itl take u about an hour to get from point x to y it may seem fun "1 hour of an island? there must be tons of things to do!" WRONG unless u like starring at trees all day then be my guest and also the police! if u literaly BUMP into another car just touch it SOMEHOW they will know well and this game has the most GENERIC braking sounds i have ever herd this game may be as bad as ImportTuner challange well just looking out for you guys there's a reason why its only fourty bucks your better off buying beer

I'm no expert, but don't bikes not turn well at high speeds in real life? And there is a ton of replay value here, there are enough cars in the game at such high prices that you will replay a lot of the completed races to get more money to get more cars. And at 40 bucks, you get quite a bit of game. Easily a 7 on a tough scale, but this game is worth at least an 8.

If you have a silver account your missing out on the game's intention .

I would disregard this review .

Sounds like you are drunk already.
GENERIC braking sounds
I do not...

I played the hell out of this game, I'm not a serious racing fan but I enjoyed it. It's physics are between a PGR and a Ridge Racer. However, If you don't have a gold account I would skip it. One of my favorite games for 360 thus far.

yall think what yall want but im a HUGE gamer and racing enthusiasts im just saying the game isnt as good as it sounds belive me
