Pacific Rim

Holy shit, this movie was totally awesome.  I loved every minute of it.  Being a huge Godzilla fan, this movie was right up my alley and makes me miss new Godzilla movies.  I hope the new one doesn't suck as much balls as the last American one.

I think Del Toro is banking on all the classic godzilla and monster movies of the 20th century fans to support this movie.  Little kids would find this "cool" teens and college kids don't seem to enjoy it that much (well at least in my group when I saw it).

Anyone see it in D-BOX yet?  God damn it's like 23.50 for a ticket :(

Saw it again in IMax 3D this morning with a different friend and still enjoyed it. I Still can't help but grin like an idiot as
soon as they use the elbow rocket and the sword for the first time
Easily my favorite movie this year.

So I take it not awful like you originally thought from the trailers?

Ha! You bastard. And yes, I was very wrong.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

And Grown Ups 2 made more then Pacific Rim on Friday. What the fuck is wrong with this country? Giant fucking robots fighting monsters and great reviews versus an Adam Sandler film with a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and reviews all saying in a film with Chris Rock and other celebrities is over shadowed by Taylor Lautner in the comedy department. Seriously, what the goddamn fuck?!

Broke my heart seeing this on the box office. My midnight showing was only half full but my buddies and I are going to watch it again on dbox tomorrow. Hope it picks up cause a part 2 already makes me giddy.

lol thats sad

I watched it earlier today and I felt like a kid while I was watching it, especially during the fight scenes. I was cheesing like a mother fuck er.

The reason for this is because there are too many family movies saturating July right now...everything from Monsters University to DM2 to Turbo to Grown Ups 2 is causing parents to spend more money and time on those movies than PR.  Reviews for GU2 isn't so great but all those pussy parents don't want their kids to be "scared" from CG giant monsters.  Shit I've seen scarier shit in the 80's lol.

so what were you guys eating during this movie?  I had chicken tenders and a supreme pizza and a large coke.... I swear I had to stop chewing because my mouth kept on opening up during some scenes.

I Never eat in theaters. I'll be damned if I can pay those prices and not feel guilty, especially when I spent $16.25 on an IMax 3D screening.

What is this D-Box people are talking about?  I saw this yesterday on IMAX 3D.  I really see no point in 3D, but the IMAX was amazing.  I have been hyping up this movie for about a year or so now and it more than delivered.  It may be the first movie in a long time, fuck since the Rocketeer, that I have seen a movie twice in theaters.  After this they need to tell Michael Bay to get fucked and give Transformers to del Toro.  I hope they end up doing another one or even more,
but I don't see how they can with how it ended.  They didn't leave it opened at all.  Maybe they will make more Jaegers for some new threat.

Was worth every penny, but I also try to be a cheap ass in any other way I can.

And $19?! Jumping ass crackers! Sorry for those fees you get.
That's why I always go to the movies on a Saturday for the first showing of the day, that and it's rarely crowded. My IMAX ticket cost me $12.50 at 9:20 AM with maybe 30 people in the theater.

In Vegas, the theatres never get packed. Maybe that's why it costs extra? Most the movies are inside casinos so that could be another reason... In Texas opening day to a movie like Pacific Rim would be jam packed. In Vegas we had about 25-30 people at the 4pm showing on opening day. The price is fixed for IMAX too, including matinee showing and they don't even give you the normal military discount for some reason.

Came back from viewing number 2 in IMAX 3d.

I really don't think this was filmed in IMAX.  Those who have noticed when watching True IMAX shot movies, the screen will switch from letterbox to full screen...examples Dark KNight, Dark Knight Rises and so on.  The entire time the picture was in full screen mode.  I think I need to see it in D-box next (early showing as I am not paying like 23.xx for that!)

now some thoughts.

The characters were so so.

-Mako Mori, although cute, I felt that she wasn't needed for the movie.  Is that how she really speaks?  It felt like her voice was dubbed.

-I really wish they would have spent more time showing off the other Jeagers.  I thought all of them were cool but it's like there was something missing about them...like each should have had like some sort of super weapons unique to each one.

-The life wall was a joke...  why not build weapons on top of them to defend them?

-I am shocked that GD survived that close range nuke blast.

-Shouldn't that EMP knock out GD as well?

-With all those helicopters hovering overhead providing spot lights, why didn't they use the military to help the Jeagers out?

-I was kinda getting annoyed when that guy kept on telling Mako what to do.

-A lot of scenes reminded me of voltron.

-Did anyone think there was just too much rain and water scenes to appreciate the detail on each of the robots?

-My wife was telling me that the baby Kiaju emerging from the dead one should have been the extra scene at the end instead of that Hanibal one (even though it was amusing), leaving the door open for a sequel.

-God damn what's the damage amount for each time those two go at it in a city?

oh yeah the robots are out!  Found Crimson Typhoon at TRU!

Looked up D-Box and it seems like the closest one is about 2 and a half hours away.  Not sure it is worth driving that far to see a movie on D-Box.

I'm looking forward to the probable 3 and half hour director's cut Blu-ray. The special features on this will be awesome.

3 Hours? No... Maybe an extra 15 minutes. It's epic but I don't need 3.5 hours of it! We don't need a LOTR EE version of this movie.

I want more back story

some more thoughts.

-So I wonder how much each bot cost to build?

-Why is there a different design instead of a common unified design?

-Australia get's the "cooler" high tech one when the US is still using an older design.

-Shouldn't that drop from 50k feet even with the slow down destroy GD' legs? Even that guy said they are still coming in too fast.

-Repair time is almost instant between fights.

Yeah...save your gas money. It will probably cost you more on gas than the ticket alone.

That's what I thought.  Unless a group of people go and hang out in the area for the day it isn't worth it.  The closes one is Columbia MO and I have no clue as to what is even there to do.

I don't see why this couldn't have been number one.  If I had a family I would have taken them to see this.  I might have seen it with out the kids first to make sure I could, but as long as the kids were old enough to go see it they would have went.

I think it was bad release timing.  If it was pushed to August or early June then yeah it would have been number 1.   August would have been safer.

If it makes anybody feel better, Grantland did some exit polls for Grown Ups 2 and the results were not good. I doubt GU2 will beat Rim next week.

I hope this movie does well. Del Toro wants to do a sequel but thats up to assholes who are skipping this movie and watching grown ups 2.

yuck

So uh what happened to
blade head
Was expecting some kind of retribution
The first level 4 Kaiju fight in the movie? He was blown up by Raleigh with the plasma cannon as soon as his brother got killed is my understanding.

I'm curious as to how that will go since the movie wrapped things up pretty conclusively though I guess it's not hard to find more different excuses for giant robots fighting. Though I'd also be totally fine with the adventures of Hannibal Chau.

Supposedly if he does do a sequel he might want to tie it in with the game they're releasing. Yeah I have no idea how they do a sequel with the way it ended.

I'd be surprised if a sequel happened though. Hopefully people in other parts of the world are smart enough to support the movie so that we can get a sequel.

I wish they'd do a Pacific Rim and Godzilla crossover. Would be amazing.

There won't be a sequel and nor should they. It's all downhill if they were to go that route. I don't see Guillermo del Toro making a sequel. Instead he'll make something else worth seeing.

Oh, and yes, this movie is great fun. Best action movie I have seen in a LONG time.

Hellboy 2 says otherwise in terms of Del Toro making a sequel that improves over the first in every way and I still wish we would get a Hellboy 3.

I agree with this every which way.

Still haven't seen the movie yet, but planning to soon. It sounds amazing.
Try and see it before Friday in IMax since Fast and Furious with snails is taking over IMax come Friday. Totally goddamn worth it.

Also bring a friend who also wants to see it so you can have someone to high five after certain scenes.

I don't have an IMAX anywhere nearby, so that's out of the question, buuuut I will definitely bring someone along to high five. I'm planning on having sore hands after it's done.

My friend is curious after all the praise I heaped on the movie and is now agreeing to go see it with me, but I told her she has to high five me whenever I demand it even if she doesn't get it because goddamn I want to high five so bad during parts of the film. Like the wide grin cannot be contained during certain scenes and thus a high five is goddamn necessary.

5 dollar tuesdays/wednesdays FTW! :p
Actually, the tickets were $6.25, which is the standard price for the first showing of the day.

I usually see movies on the first showing on a weekday, and the only other movie that was as crowded was Avengers.

Also, I want this series in Super Robot Wars.
