Past CAG Steam Deal Threads

I'm pretty good at following the thread and I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, but if it was then please forgive me  :bouncy:

Bundlestars Wheels of Steel Minibundle 0.66 pounds ~$1.03 US for paypal.

http://www.bundlestars.com/deals/wheels-of-steel-bundle/

Wasteland Angel

Crash Time 2

Tank Universal

All steam keys

These may have been bundled before, but I didn't have any of them. However, in my new metagame of having as many games as I can on Steam and on the off chance they get cards, 34 cents per game isn't bad.

EDIT - I got this by email, I didn't see it listed on the main site, so hopefully it's not tied to being on their email list or something.

It's Idiotekque's parents when they heard he got banned prior to shooting up CAG HQ and taking his own life.

He never got so much as a write-up in school.

Nice to see you're back, still curious why you never answered my calls!

Somehow managed to sell a normal Airbuccaneers card for $1.40 earlier today when cards just dropped. It's back to the card beta days bitches!

Don't know if anyone is interested but I am renting a minecraft server for friends. Send me a PM and I'll give you the IP granted that you are a regular member.

That's really cool of you to do ^_^

One of these days I'll finally catch the minecraft bug, but I guess I will have to make do with Terraria right now. Maybe one day it will go on sale < < *pipedream*

So, Frozen Synapse. Is it relatively easy to learn?I'm not the greatest at tactical/strategic combat games, doubly so when they're turn-based. I remember somebody in this thread mentioning (the last time it was on sale) that the tutorial was a bit lacking since it didn't tell you some important game mechanics. I'm fuzzy on the specifics, it ws a while ago.

It looks like it'd be good fun to play in co-op or in Vs mode against a friend and I'm just curious about the "pick up and play"-ability of it.

It probably won't shine in a short demo but here it is: demo (Steam page). The official manual is here: manual.

Pick-up-and-play?

Yeah, it's easy to initiate a game immediately because the menu is remarkably streamlined. It can be played in short sessions or any way you want -- all rockets for silly time, sniper battles, etc. and plentiful modes. You can definitely go casual with this.

Can anybody actually purchase the Space Empires IV and V pack?  It tells me I have multiples of the same item in my cart, but I don't.

Lunar flight cards are selling... nice. I sold a couple at $0.40. The walking dead cards ar on that range too.

Terraria cards are beautiful, will craft that badge xD

It's been a while since I did the tutorial, but I don't think it was difficult to learn. The basics you pick up pretty quick, the rest is just mastering those basic tools to be more effective in combat. A nice part of the game is that you can watch completed matches and learn from your mistakes and see the tactics of others.

So what is everyone's experience with SteamMover and SteamTool? They seem pretty straight forward, and I semi-understand the underlying technology it uses.

I've used SteamTool a bunch and it's great. Just realize that for games like Skyrim it won't move your mods. Move the game first then install the mods. Other than that it's pretty easy.

It took me a bit but I managed to do it during the summer sale. I opened a support ticket, and even after sending them screenshots they still told me I was doing something wrong, in the end I told their support to just forward this on to the right tech people who would understand what I was talking about since their site is messed up

I would try the other 'add to cart' buttons. One of them worked for me while the other one didnt, but I might have just gotten lucky since when I tried it again later I got the error on both buttons

A Microsoft published game with cards? :whistle2:k

What's next, EA?
Gotta get them cards! I'd love to have some Mass Effect cards, personally. Devs are making money hand-over-fist with the market transaction fees, so the only reason EA wouldn't would be out of spite.

I have 249 card drops remaining - it's gonna take a while.

Are the devs really making that much money?

I'm looking at the markets trying to figure that out. Most cards are sub-.30 cents.

If a dev's cards are selling at .20 cents a pop, they get .02 cents per transaction.

Even if they were doing 10,000 transactions a week (which I doubt most devs are doing), that's only $200 a week, so $800 a month.

Doesn't seem like the cash cow that a lot of people make it out to be. I think the reality for most devs is probably a lot less.

Cards are only one part of the equation though. There are foil cards. There are profile backgrounds and emoticons as well.

The bigger cut comes from those games with cards now being more popular, or more people buying them with Steam wallet funds they got from selling cards. It makes higher priced indie games get more sales - where as previously cheap asses like us would wait for an indie bundle.

While $800 a month isn't exactly the best revenue stream, it seems to be a residual income which is difficult to come by in the gaming industry (short of charging a monthly fee or maintaining servers).

Keep in mind - this is nearly 100% free money. The only additional work they had to do was draw a couple of trading cards, some emoticons, and some high-rez backgrounds and $$$.

If I made a game like Universe Sandbox, for example, I'd be really happy with the new revenue stream.

I'm with JShacks on this. The cost of actually designing the cards (direct labor w/ minimal indirect overhead) is easily covered with less than a week's worth of transactions, so the investment in the whole process is basically non-existent. Any time a company can make money for doing nothing, no matter how trivial the amount, they're going to take advantage of that. We CAGs are actually a prime example of that point. We'll idle our games to get those drops, then take a few minutes (while multitasking, of course) to list and sell those cards for wallet funds. We didn't really do anything out of our usual routine, and maybe made a couple bucks.

Combine that with the fact that people that normally wouldn't buy some of these games are buying them just for the card aspect, and it's really a win-win for the developer and Steam. GabeN should throw one of his extra cheeseburgers (is there such a thing?) to whoever came up with the card idea.

Today's deal is Papo y Yo at 75% off ($3.74)

Weekend Deal is Sleeping Dogs at 75% off as well as DLC.

It's Quakecon Weekend so id and Bethesda games are 25% off with dailies.

Today is id titles at 75% off.

There are a lot.

Quake

Hexen

Heretic

Rage

Doom

Wolfenstein

Spear of Destiny

Commander Keen

Aaaand of course, quake 4 is not part of the quake collection. I'm tempted on doom 3 BFG, RTCC and the hexen-heretic1-notheretic2 collection

Already have all the iD games (except Quake IV, bought the "id complete pack" way back in 2008), but here's hoping for a good sale on Cthulhu, or Skyrim DLC at a reasonable price.

Grabbing Papo & Yo for $3.74, cheapest it's ever been and I've had it on my wishlist for a while.

I'm curious what kind of deals Bethesda games will get this weekend. I still need to pickup Dragonborn. Is this the weekend it dips below $8? Maybe 66% Off? Hmm

...and welcome back MIND LINK!

Shopping spree
It's my steam summer sale, better late than never.

FYI if anyone is signed up to the newsletter for A Virus Named Tom they sent out a email today with some freebies (soundtrack, desura game) and coupons. 50% off Jack Lumber coupon. Might be a buy for me.

Edit:

Nevermind, see Jack Lumber was cheaper during the Steam sale, don't recall seeing it on hidden gem lists.

Also, what is the difference between the Doom I in Doom 3 BFG and Ultimate Doom and Final Doom?

Last edited by a moderator:
Ultimate Doom is the version of Doom 1 included with BFG Edition. Also, I believe the BFG version of Doom 2 has an extra campaign that isn't in the regular Steam release.

It's A Virus Named Tom's launch anniversary. The game is 75% off for the next 48 hours on the dev's site though the Humble Store with a Steam key. It's also on sale from Steam directly.

The game is also going to be getting trading cards. There is a contest to design them.

A Virus Named Tom is pretty fun. I won it during their reddit giveaway last year. 75% off is not a bad deal, I think.

Alright, haul for now:

Heretic/Hexen Pack

Papo y Yo

Commander Keen (haven't touched these since my shareware disks, so I expect some serious aging)

Yeah, I think I got it there too or something. Played it and had fun with it, but haven't finished it.
