It's nice but it gets repetitive (and a little unrealistic as Lara takes 20 bullets to the chest and 3 arrows to the knee and keeps burning through baddies).

Guess those implants came in handy ;)

So I've been finishing up Skyrim. Started playing soon after it came out, then just picked up the game again within the past week. Finished the war, the main storyline...already did Champions... Have College of Winterhold and Thieves Guild, and that's about it. Wish I'd gotten then DLC when it was half off lately.

But in cooler news, downloaded the Falskaar mod. That mod that 19 year old did to apply for Bethseda. Looking forward to checking that out.

I've been feeling a bit of an ARPG bug and Marvel Heroes is the last thing I think of. It's OK, just never grabbed me (maybe because I never bought a character I really liked?)
I bought Captain America during the July 4 sale, and haven't been able to put him down since. It's rather silly that Cap is able to tank better than Hulk, but I think that's a Hulk problem and not a Cap problem. I bought a couple other heroes at the same time (thanks, Steam cards!), but haven't even taken them out of the box yet.

Midtown Manhattan, the new PvE area, is gloriously insane. The "endgame run" terminals are pretty boring, but MM is a different animal entirely. The sheer scale of enemy spawning pretty much forces players to work together, and the resulting loot drops are eye-boggling. I'm ignoring all white items and particles, just collecting greens and up; and it takes me all of 15 minutes to fill up my inventory.

Oh, and the hero-drop mechanic has changed. Instead of (rarely) dropping random heroes, the game now drops Eternity Splinters, which can be saved up and traded in for the hero of your choice. So even if you have a hero you don't like, you can eventually get one you DO like without spending money.

That is an interesting looking mod. It almost makes me want to pick Skyrim back up, though I think I still need some time away. Just put a few hundred hours into it a few months ago. I'll still download it and hope it gets along with my other 100+ mods.

While I agree that Dust's combat quickly became repetitive and tedious, I enjoyed the game quite a bit.

I really don't understand why people are so down on the character design or refer to it as "middle school furry."

It looks like it was pulled straight out of Fieval Goes West or The Great Mouse Detective.

Not every anthropomorphic animal is the result of a sexual fetish.

It's more than pretty good.
Well - the story could've been less predictable; there could've & should've been some harder tombs; too many QTE's early on; and Lara's transformation from fragile-girl to body-dropping heroine is just WAY TOO Fast/rushed.

My Grade = B+.

Wow, Saints Row 2 performance is a nightmare. Hoping the speed fix helps, they say the closer you get the speed right the smoother it runs. What a botched port, it only runs properly if your CPU matches the 360's CPU frequency.

You can just say Tomb Raider. I'll understand. If anyone else doesn't shame on them.
There already was a Tomb Raider - and it was in 1996.

Don't worry - I refer to MK9 as exactly that; NFS: Most Wanted 2005 (by Black Box) as such; and that cel-shaded PoP as PoP 2008.

I never had a problem with that. It's kind of a tossup when it comes to certain problems on that game.

anyone here following the Dota 2 International championships? I checked out the very first match of the tournament (Na'Vi vs Orange) and I have been hooked ever since, I don't even like playing Dota 2 but watching the pros play the game is so much fun. Last nights' match between Na'Vi and TongFu was just spectacular, watching Dendi land all of those hooks with Pudge to win the game, simply amazing.
Thanks, I've wasted a few hours tonight watching it, and I've never played the game. I also have no idea what is going on or what the announcers are taking about most of the time.

The prison hospital bit isn't representative of performance. Wait till you get loose in Steelport. Some setting like global illumination really saps performance in that bit, but I really prefer the look with it on.

Is friend activity broken for everyone else, or just me?
It's okay to have friends. But is it really okay to rub it in other people's faces?

=p

At default settings my game was running too fast, I had to set the speed to 0.99 instead of the default 1.0 in the speed hack for it to match the proper speed. Saints Row 2. I'm gonna install Gentlemen of the Row mod now.

Ugh this is the worst, I think I'm gonna give up. Every now and then I can feel the fps go up and it feels so smooth, but 99.9% of the time its so sluggish I can't take it. I followed some tips on clearing your prefetch folder to improve performance, but it didn't make a difference. At least Red Cross got a dollar.

*crawls out from avalanche of thread backup* Hi, everyone! I had a really busy weekend. A week ago. But I've finally caught up with the thread. Hooray!

Next time, be more entertaining in my absence.

Its boring when you're out of games to idle for cards.
Truth. I keep going over the the badges page, and all that's left is Indie Game The Movie which I keep telling myself I will watch someday. I almost believe it, too.

Really, I'm just glad I sold off my Cherry Tree cards before the bundle happened.

What is this?! WTF is this?!
Wow. Pac-Man DX on Steam. It's getting to the point where I won't need PSN any longer, which suits me fine since they didn't make good on the $20 I was supposed to get back in the March promotion. All I need now is a Steam release of Scott Pilgrim vs the World.

Pac-Man DX is fun. It's a twitch-reaction puzzler where you try to wake as many ghosts as you can chain before grabbing a power pellet to combo-chomp them. Mostly, you're navigating ever-rearranging lines of dots perfectly with the game picking up speed as you improve. You're given a generous number of bombs to clear away ghosts if you're in a pinch (exaggerated by a bullet-time slow-mo if you're about to collide with one) which does decrease your multiplier and the game speed slightly, but is preferable to losing a few seconds to having to respawn. I've really enjoyed it, though it's hard to play more than 20 minutes at a time. A great game to keep coming back to between other options.

It's a good game but it plays pretty different from the original. I bought it on PSN for $10 and I was pretty happy with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA6EF70AYsg

I'm sure they'll sell the preorder stuff later but it's Namco so probably overpriced. The Pac-Mania is just a skin, you can change the characters and the maze visuals. They also have the original arcade sprites, Pac-Man Arranged, the Atari version, and I think there was a Vectrex-looking one.

I'm only halfway kidding when I say I'm disappointed that Ms. Pacman isn't part of the package. I know I'm not alone in my preference for that game over the original.

I checked out some gameplay and it does indeed look like a very cool twist. Straight to the wishlist!

All things considered, Namco delivered an impressive listing for the new PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+.

HOWEVER

Japanese people are really fucking zany and this feature proves something that doesn't need to be proved:

pac-mansteam_zps65f7fa4e.png

1) I hope they stay intact because competition is an important element of this game.

2) So let's say I'm a superhero -- I can talk shit to my archrival? Good. Let's pretend I'm a drug dealer -- I can pop pellets into crackheads with my .32-snub? Great.

3) They got Facebooks and Twitters connectivities in Japan now? What are the criterias for landing a job at Namco these days?

I cannot wait to shatter those leaderboards. This is my custom King Bluntman Pac-Man skin BTW.

- NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE WHO ISN'T A FLUENT ENGLISH SPEAKER. I UNDERSTAND YOUR PLIGHT and applaud your effort BUT THIS POST WOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE without acting like a DICK.

It feels good seeing lesbian rabbits openly expressing their love for one another in 2013. I remember a time when they could only do it in front of a camera.

Now they do it in front of an HD camera.

Then why does she look like Ellen DeGeneres and NOT A MAN at all? 8-[

You've been playing way too much Final Fantasy. Shit, I would probably fuck Tidus, kick his azz out the bed in the morning and never know that it wasn't just business as usual. Meg Ryan-ass-lookin mothafucker...

All this talk of furries got me thinking, where the hell did I put my CAG Steam thread bingo card? Must be near the CoD player bingo card. Or perhaps my Honey Boo Boo scratch 'n sniff. Who knows anymore?

I overclocked my system and deliberately aimed for 3.2 ghz just for SR2.

>.> I just happen to normally OC my Phenom II 720 BE from 2.8 stock to 3.2 since that's the highest I can run at/near stock voltage and power.  Pushing it up the 3.6 GHz increased heat and cooling too much for my quiet PC preference.

IIRC I also disabled AMD's Cool-n-Quiet (power/MHz throttling) while playing SR2.

I also see some people who've never played with MPlayer's -vo caca option.

Did that work out? Mine is 3.4. I was able to match the target timings to the second with the speed fix, but it doesn't seem to have helped the performance, at least not much.
I haven't played much, but I wasn't noticing anything horrible in terms of performance. I am definitely not seeing the speed-up bug, though.

Holy fuck, I thought that was Ellen and Portia de Rossi, until I realized that they just want to be famous lesbians.

Well, you know. All the plot lines that matter. Not all the random quest filler people will give you.

I actually opened my strategy guide today and tackled one of the Daedra quests. The one with the dog Barbas. That was pretty cool.

But yeah, headed to Falskaar today. It seems a very, very rich mod. Only thing is that once you get to Falskaar, you can't just warp back to Skyrim. Seems you have to find a guy with a boat who can take you back. So yeah, best to finish anything you want before heading to Falskaar. From what I hear, the mod has about 20 hours of content and has a realm the size of three Skyrim holds. So I think I'll be here a while.

I've got over 100 hours w/ just Skyram base game. I barely touched the main quest, but done a lot of sides. I feel like it's probably the only ES game that I'll never finish the main quest, for some reason. I just always find my way back to Skyram, eventually. Hell, and I ain't even bought the DLC's yet. I wouldn't be surprised if when I do buy the DLC's, I finish those before Skyram base game's main quest.

Same goes for me, always side quests before main quests. It starts as an "I need to level for the main quest" then leads into "oh look that llama on the side of the road has a quest for me to complete". (Of course not in Skyram
aries+ram.gif
as the game just doesn't hold my interests that much, but I've hear of plenty of people who've enjoyed it for 150+ hours so whatever floats your goat

I doubt anyone's played it yet since it ain't cheap, but has anybody played Divinity: Dragon Commander yet?

D:DC got a 75 on Metacritic, currently, so far.

I'm not much on bigger-scaled strategy-games or RTS normally...

...but it's mix w/ RPG elements of making moral decisions & branching paths definitely got me intrigued.

Sounds like a rough-diamond around the edges that needs some patching to get rid of technical issues & maybe some re-balancing.

Definitely waiting for a sale on this one.

BTW - Angry Joe's review for this is hilarious.

Personally, I could never get into Skyrim.  I tried, it was very pretty but something about, "Oh hello person who knows nothing about himself except he was about to be executed for some reason and is covered in blood and ill-fitting, mis-matched armor, let me tell you my deeply personal relationship issues and entrust you with carrying out this very important personal task."  I get the whole side-quest video game convention, but these people seem to exist simply to give you things to do and at the outset you have no identity in the game.  There is no reason for any of these people to trust you as far as they can throw you.

Most games where people exist simply to give you nuisance little personal fetch quests and other nonsense you are at least starting the game with a known identity or at least a portrayed identity of "Hero" or "Adventurer".  At that point you get to determine is delivering some schmucks package well out of your way worth delaying your quest to save the world/defeat the evil overlord/etc. for some small quest reward you'll likely immediately sell.  The mechanic is still pretty much the same but at least there is an in-universe context as to why these people would have any expectation that you might complete these tasks for them.

In Skyrim, and really most Bethesda games, you're just some dude... often one right off the execution line or fresh out of prison (Daggerfall being an exception).  Being an ex-con does not exactly inspire a great deal of trust in people, and even if they don't know, some ragged guy in gear he just took off some corpses (which he may or may not have made corpses) still isn't going to invite conversation.  So many games have a reputation system in place it would be nice if Elderscrolls did something like that.  In the early going quests are pulled from postings, papers or overheard conversations, standing bounties etc.  Something where you can at least establish your character before people start asking you to deliver their precious cargo.  Maybe this would be too tedious, I don't know, but tedium certainly doesn't seem to deter most Elderscrolls fans from what I've read.  Ultimately, something kind of like what I think Molyneux kind of wanted to do with Fable I think could help the Eldescrolls series a bit.

As a note, I haven't enjoyed any of the Elderscrolls games entirely from a gameplay perspective so it's not just this one thing that keeps me from getting into them, but I have decided to focus on this random nitpick because for reasons I can't explain it always really annoys me and it's more fun to write about than first-person melee that lacks any weight or impact, the myriad of bugs, etc.

@MightyTor

I don't know if BethSoft games really need a big-time reputation system like some other RPG's have. Not every RPG need to take elements from other RPG's to try to be like every other RPG out there. ES series is known for being, more or less, an offline-MMO w/ questing galore for a huge ridiculous game-world to explore. Sure, some of these quests here and there that might have some kind of decision-making involving - but I don't really expect ES games to be as crazy w/ those in say BIS Fallout 1 + 2 & Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas + Alpha Protocol.

Also, ES games - I don't think they were meant to give you an identity, but to make you flat-out blank slate character. I don't expect ES games to give me a character like The Nameless from PST or say Geralt form The Witcher and flesh them out amazingly w/ dialogue-galore and/or prose-galore, either.
