Holy fuck ! I've never expected to see a humble EA bundle, let alone one where no money goes to them. X_X I must have died. Btw calling DS2 as a early adopter (maybe throwing in Mass Effects)

Holy crap! And I thought the Deep Silver bundle was good. I've been wanting to pick up Mirror's Edge for when I get my Oculus Rift...but damn! I'll take 7 additional games for under $5. Madness!

God damn it. I said I was never going to buy another EA game. But they come with Steam keys. And they are so cheap.

Oh, none of the money goes to EA! (They don't even have an option to give EA money.) Okay, I will bite.

See now i'm fucking afraid of buying anything from any retailer, at this point we would see an Indie Bundle from every publisher out there 8-[

That's it, i'm not buying any more games from any store, sorry Tony, Valve, GMG, GG (GOG is save, they sell old games.... or maybe not...). HiB is where is at.

Humble EA bundle is a no-brainer for a buck.  For the items that also have steam keys, is there a benefit to running on Origin over the steam version?   For instance, I believe that Mirror's Edge does not have DLC available on steam. Any other instances?

This is extremely embarrassing, but I was so surprised about this bundle that I somehow paid the default price of $25 for it...in fairness, I was on my tablet and half the time that thing just does what it wants. Needless to say I've already contacted support, hopefully they can sort me out.

And yeah...HOLY SHIT, EA HUMBLE BUNDLE. Is there any joke we can make that WON'T come true???

I own all the games except DS3, still an instant buy.

So there is hope...

Humble Activision Bundle

Humble Capcom Bundle

Humble Konami Bundle

Humble Squeenix Bundle (like it's really necessary)

Mm'kay... so do we get both Steam AND Origin keys or must we pick one? And is there any incentive to use Origin when we could use Steam?

You get keys for both clients. The only ones that are Origin only are Dead Space 3(non-BTA), Battlefield 3(BTA), and The Sims 3 + Starter DLC Pack(BTA). All others give keys for Steam and Origin.

Now I've seen everything. Dead Space 1 has been on my wishlist for forever; I was just about at the point where I was thinking of picking it up with card money, since it's never been below $5 on Steam. Glad I waited! Already had all the others I was interested in, but what the hell.

Kudos for them giving all the money to charity.
Ha, don't be fooled, it's just a marketing ploy. Trying to win back the goodwill they squandered on Simcity and being voted worst company two years running. Get people invested in their games again, even if it's for free, gamers will forget the initial burn and pony up for DS4 and Sims 4, etc....

edit: double ninja'd

Bought the BTA. Now thinking about another BTA for my kid (sims 3). Or it saves on the user's account? If so, we can share the same origin account, because we are on the same machine

Thanks for answering my question, those of you who understood what I was asking.

Re: Steam... Thief seems to be on sale pretty often.   :oldman:

Not only that, but the charities are actually pretty damn good for once, too.

I just wanted to interrupt this Humble Origin Bundle thread to say...

Steam finally posted its Daily Deal:

Thief: Deadly Shadows 75% off $8.99 $2.24 (all time low price)
Note that the sale, of course, applies to all of the old Thief games. Collection is $4.74

The Steam keys give an Origin key in the Steam client, which is NOT the same as the same as the Origin key you get from Humble.  So, for the Steam redeemable games, you can fill up 2 Origin accounts.

Who cares?

It's a lot of money for charity and a great deal for us.

Why do EA's motives matter?

When every time a business does something cool you cynically write it off as "They're just doing it to look good," what incentive does that give to commercial enterprises to act in socially responsible ways?

You're just saying that to look good

Oh, please. No offense, but don't be naive. Commercial enterprises have no incentive to act in socially responsible ways as long as socially irresponsible ways bring in more business. Corporations are not people. They do not have morals. In fact, with the way legislation works in the U.S., the larger the corporation, the more likely they are to get away with questionable if not flagrantly unethical business practices - and it will be better for business, at least in the short run, which is all most large corporations and their shareholders care about. The dollar is the bottom line, and any other "motives" are pure marketing. I chipped in for BTA cause I wanted the games, but I don't have any illusions about EA having changed its tune. Maybe they just hired better marketers and image management. Regardless, I have no doubt that they will continue to push as much DLC and microtransactions as they can as long as they still believe it to be the best business model for them, and that they would go back to slave-driving their developers 12 hours a day seven days a week if they could still get away with it.

Just got a booster pack for Beat Hazard. Opened it up, realized I had 5/7 cards, so bought the last two and crafted the badge.

Got a worthless background, worthless emoticon, and 50% off Garry's Mod.

Ugh. What am I doing.

Only thing to be cautioned about Jake (well not HIM but his location)...

I bought X-Com from him and Steam tried, unsuccessfully, to pull my authorization to play because it was from a different region (post launch). Nothing was mentioned in any of the menu's about region locking but they tried to and it locked me out of the game for 2-3 days until my report made it's way up. Steam eventually gave me my copy back but I was burned so I'm ever so careful now.

JAKE is great though. Lots of good stuff for good prices. I was debating Rayman through him.
Yeah, Jake is awesome, but I think the best course of action is to buy games from him awhile after release. You never know what's gonna happen with new releases with region locks and changes, and it's cheaper to wait anyways.

completely unrelated, but I JUST posted this gif in another thread
I've posted it before as well. It's rather legendary.

You got to be fucking kidding me

Ironically, $25 for this bundle is still pretty fair. I know I would have been tempted...

I only wanted Mirror's Edge, so I checked the group buy thread and a guy dropped codes for every game. He accidentally posted the Burnout code twice instead of giving out the mirror's edge code so I PM'd him and he gave me mirror's edge for free. What a great day, thanks mrsilkunderwear!

It isn't about naivety, it's about setting precedents that treat businesses well for acts that should be praised rather than cynically scorning them and perpetuating an atmosphere of hostility between consumer and producer.

Businesses only do what's good for their bottom line in this country because we've told them the only thing we care about is our bottom line. Then we ensure the system stays in check by swatting down any attempts otherwise with lame accusations of insincerity and "public relations stunts." It's a toxic cycle and we're all complicit.

It doesn't matter if EA is doing this for their bottom line, as the means to that end are legitimate.

True! And you're right, I am totally cynical about large corporations. But most of them have a long way to go with me to establish any kind of goodwill. Obviously I am not against any companies raising money for charity, publicity stunt or no. But after the mess that was Sim City, EA has a long way to go before I'll be willing to entrust more than $5 to them in a Steam sale. My original message was intended to remind people of the EA that was. This is a good start, but in my opinion it's not enough to wipe out all the wrong they've been doing for years now.

Anyway, I question your choice of words: "cynically scorning them and perpetuating an atmosphere of hostility between consumer and producer"? EA isn't some hurt child. They can take a little heat. It's up to them at this point to win their consumers back. Like I said, this is a good start; but I wouldn't trust them with any pre-order money just yet.
