Fox's Betrayer mini-review:

So why did I buy this?  Because it looked cool.  I usually scoff at games that rely on aesthetics for their draw, but the black and white world of Betrayer drew me in.  I'm sure its not for everyone, but there's something really cool about such a detailed world only in black and white (for the most part).  Red is thrown in for items, weapons, enemies.

It's essentially an unfinished (early access) open world set in the times of the colonization of America.  The game is one big mystery and given the concept I'm not sure there ever will be a clear end or explanation as to what is going on.  The world is lonely save for the occasional bad guy and it's not clear who or what the bad guys are or what is going on.  I'm loving it, but it's not without a few glitches here and there.  When you die it's not clear what you are supposed to do to respawn (hint - press F).  There's only one fort/world to explore right now and the devs warn that as they add new locations you might have to start a new game each time (yuck) so this is definitely a wait and see for most, but it's a very cool game/idea so far.

I think these Steam sponsored kickstarters are my weakness.

the gameplay isn't at all similar, but just wanted to mention that if you like the artstyle of Betrayer you should check out Madworld (if you have a wii that is). It's the first thing I thought of when I looked at the store page for Betrayer.

lol, yeah, I owned and played Madworld, it was a fun action game with plenty of over the top gore, even in a black and white world.

I really wish Steam would make a distinction between a game designed with solo play in mind (ie campaign, story, the usual) and a multiplayer game that you can happen to solo if you choose.

I hate when they use the game spot for software. And the same software over and over again. That one and RPG maker
Speaking of. . . Preedatore? Anyone else who's used YNAB? Is this a good replacement for Quicken? Can you download transaction records from your financial institution and insert "placeholder" transactions for future events?

Your avatar and title had me googling "Tracy McGrady murdered".

Thankfully, the only thing murdered was his career after his knee surgery in '09.

I need a budget to stop me from buying crap like I Need a Budget.

I know that some of you guys dig it but, c'mon, if you need a budget then dat ass is probably broke. If said ass is indeed broke then a $1 calculator should GIT 'ER DUN.

Sheesh.

Symphony is a blast to play, 21 hours spend in game and i'm still loving it, perfect game if you have a huge music library on your hard drive and want some spent some time listening to it.

You can definitely set up future transactions. I have 4 monthly ones setup that are automatically withdrawn from my account. You just have to clear the transaction once it passes.

I think you can grab the info from your bank but I'm not positive. Frithsblessing may be able to answer that one.

If I go down to Gamestop and buy a Wii to play MadWorld, do you think I should purposefully (sex) seduce the Latina clerk and flip 'er my #?

I just wish there were a way to play it on a personal computer...

From reading up on these Theater of War games, they don't sound good. All the Metacritic reviews are low too. Has anyone here played them or can offer some reasons that they might be worth $3?

I'm not familiar with Quicken, so I can't compare the two. I have My wife has been using YNAB. I'm pretty sure you can link your financial institution to your account. Though, we haven't done that. We allocate funds to categories when they come in then enter transactions as we make them. It's been help in knowing where our money is going, and has helped us save.

There is a demo. Check it out to see if it is for you.

I know you could link up with a bank account back in version 2, but we haven't used the feature since then. There's also a mobile app that allows you to add transactions while you're out and sync with your budget at home, with cloud sync added in v4.

I've never used Quicken, but YNAB's been perfect for my wife and I.

I believe the correct answer here is . . . why wouldn't you?

I'll have to check out that demo. Thanks for the responses!

As someone actually mildly interested in picking up God Mode, it really needs to go to 75% off already considering it's essentially a multiplayer only game and lacking players.

And yes, I know God Mode didn't fare very well in reviews.

Well there is the 4 pack option but really, why bother? You already answered all the reasons not to get it.

I can offer reasons it's worth a penny. Too bad they broke/fixed that option.

Gun Monkeys is a mediocre-at-best, extremely simplistic 1v1 Arena platform shooter.  Their initial asking price was too high, no one bought it, they lowered it dramatically, still no one bought it.  The road to hell is paved with overpriced indie multiplayer-only games.  This new gimmick is just meant to drive sales since I'm sure they are only talking about the official regional servers (and not private ones you make) so they'll no doubt have at least one other person on them.

But hey, I got a promotional copy and sold the cards so it's all good.  I want to say I feel bad for anyone who bought the game at full price initially but... folks need to exercise a little discretion in their purchases.

What compels adult men and women to commit months or maybe years of their life and resources to something like this?

Are they in debt now? Do they have day/night jobs? Bankruptcy? Will they ever work in this town again? Who would fund them?

Worth noting it's published by Atlus, which probably makes a future bundling less likely than you might expect.

Obviously "Post-Humble-Origin World" rules apply here, so there's certainly no ruling out the bundling of anything at this point, but I don't think Rock of Ages is necessarily "bundle fodder."
Good point. Maybe once Atlus has a bigger catalog on Steam (at 5 now) they'll look at bundling.

Weeklong deals get a back rap, but that's a beautiful price on Rock of Ages. That game is such delightful, batshit fun. Art history by way of Monty Python plus tower defense plus smashing stuff with big rocks. Can't recommend it highly enough.
I love it too, but wanna point out that the tower defense stuff is really light, and isn't necessary to win (at least in single-player).

*cough*EnhancedSteamshowsthecurrentlowlistpriceforyourcardsonyourinventorypage*cough*
I don't see the option for this in ES settings; halp

I don't own it but I did play with the demo for a month. No, it's not natively a replacement for Quicken. Quicken is your transaction and account management tool and gives you reports on the history of your spending.

YNAB is a forecasting tool that helps you plan future spending and track your performance to that plan and adjust accordingly. When the transactions occur, they still need to be "entered" as transaction events to provide account balance and history in Quicken (or whatever register you use).

It seems like they could work well together, Quicken (consumer level) doesn't help users with budgets or forecasts much (at least back in the day it didn't) so YNAB fills a nice niche.

I don't know how Lost Planet got a second game, let alone a third.
Eh... just being a hater? I played the crap out of LP1 on Xbox. It's got flaws, but it's a solid TPS without silly broken cover mechanics, and it has pretty fast paced gameplay, excellent level design, massive boss battles, pilot-able mechs with a variety of different types and weapons, a pretty cool storyline, etc etc. Even the multiplayer was a blast (player controlled Akrids vs player controlled humans was the best fucking multiplayer mode ever). Have you really played it much to bash it, or is bashing games just the cool thing to do? Maybe Mooby is rubbing off on people...

I haven't played 2 much, but it's pretty much more of the same with more variety in locales and everything, plus tons of different gameplay changes. I'm leery about LP3 because of the art style shift to a more "realistic" thing, since Lost Planet has always been a bit whimsical with things (creepy little hunchback looking snow pirates and whatnot), but I'm sure it'll be solid as well.

Edit: Apparently LP3 doesnt even have a coop mode. Its just single player and competitive mp.
Leads us to fear that it's gonna be a crappy scripted SP shooter like every other game out there... Co-op in LP2 was supposed to be pretty awesome.

Where are the "bad reviews" coming from, though? Even on Metacritic I'm seeing a 60-70 average (LP1 has a 73 user rating). That's pretty much the sweet spot for flawed gems. Hard to call those bad reviews...

Gun Monkeys is a mediocre-at-best, extremely simplistic 1v1 Arena platform shooter.
Mooby is slipping... Gun Monkeys is absolutely AWFUL. Stupidest of all, the arenas are usually fairly vertical in construction and you can't even AIM your weapon. If you're looking left, you shoot left horizontally, if you shoot right, you shoot right horizontally. The controls and movement are the definition of floaty and clumsy, some weapons are utterly overpowered, the game is just a horrific mess.

Seriously, don't buy Gun Monkeys unless it's free. And even then, just idle it for cards. The game is really that bad.

Can't someone not like a game without being a hater? There are very few "AAA" games I don't enjoy and won't/didn't play to completion. In the past few years that list includes Lost Planet, Castlevania LOS, and Dark Souls.

But you're probably right on point calling me a hater because my opinion differs from yours.

Edit: I also never comment on the quality of game I haven't played or haven't played enough of to form an opinion.

You should include Sacred 2 map

ars_sacred2_fullworldmap_thumb.jpg
That comparison chart is from Bohemia Interactive, the Arma 3 dev: http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/08/27/arma-3-map-might-be-bigger-than-you-ever-imagined/

He also points out that when you take into account the playable water and underwater environments on Altis, there are actually almost 1,000 square kilometers to navigate on the map. Naturally it’s what we can do and accomplish in all that vastness that will make the difference when Arma 3 leaves beta and officially launches on September 12, but it’s great to have a way to wrap your head around just how big a space we’ll have to mod, navigate, or stage the next zombie apocalypse.

You can do whatever you like, but posts just saying "That game sucks" are annoying to people who enjoy the game, and literally have no value whatsoever to people who haven't played the game themselves and might be considering buying the game at some point in time.

By all means, dislike a game, tell us about how you dislike a game, but it's dumb and annoying to put no reasoning into that hatred. Just saying a game (that many people enjoy) sucks is pretty much just trolling.

EDIT: Lost Planet was also released like 7 years ago...

I propose we have Mooby Mondays where we just hate on everything for one day.

If you don't hate it, you can't talk about it because it's Mooby Monday!

Lost Planet 1 (haven't played the 2nd) was ok for being an early gen 360 title. I liked it, but I know it wasn't a very good game.. it was decent at best. I suspect that it was better received back then because there weren't many great 360 games to choose from in that time period.

I wasn't responding to someone asking about the game or participating in a conversation on the merits of the game. It was a simple response to Jakenome mentioning the lack of preorders on Steam.

But I'm just a hater and a troll, so, whatever.

Skyward Collapse is $2.99 (40% off). Looks like an interesting TBS game, but it's the same dev as A Valley Without Wind which left me kinda meh. Anyone have feedback on this game?

Oh... apparently it has caaarrrrdddzzzzz for the cardheadz.

Kinda nonsense reasoning. There are lots of old games from dated consoles that are still well regarded. Lost Planet has clean gameplay, pretty damn impressive graphics even now, and even the story isn't bad (can't say that about a lot of new gen shooters). It also had customization and unlocks on the MP side that hardly any other games at the time had (it wasn't really the CoD copycat era yet). What exactly makes it not a "very good game"?

Did I say it was? I'm just telling you that your post was pointless, negative, and pretty much the definition of a one-liner troll post. But thanks for sharing it with us.

If you don't think so, alrighty then. Carry on.

Anything under 80 is a "bad review" when trying to convince cheap friends to buy it.

Also for LP3, its worth mentioning that the dev isnt the same as the one for the previous LP games. the LP3 dev is the dev that made Legendary.
