Dude, your shit is better than Weird Al.

And Weird Al is dope.
Thanks, man. ;)

My label is already wanting a Part 2.

The pre-orders for the Part 1 is off the hook at Retail, on ITunes, and Amazon MP3.

We got a few unreleased tracks looming for different reasons (samples I couldn't get cleared; didn't wanna bog down the album and make it too lengthy on the first part; unfinished tracks; etc) and there's a few artists I wanna get on the Part 2 w/ some new tracks.

If you do give 8 (or 8.1) a try, I'd recommend installing it and using it for a week or so for general use without installing everything. Install stuff you use very often (possibly using trials if that's more convenient), fiddle with it, try a game or three, test the drivers, etcetera. Then, if you like it, format and set it up for long term use. If you have the time and patience (and your set-up allows it) I think it's definitely worth doing.

Gives you a bit of time to get used to the changes and make sure that you have decent driver and software support: it shouldn't be an issue unless you're unlucky or have a major aversion to change. Personally, most of the in-your-face changes didn't bother me much, it was the lack of customisation and tweaking in some areas that I found most irritating.
What games may they be? I have only had a problem with duke nukem 3d, but it worked fine on the laptop I have that runs windows 8

I bet many of us will dual-boot Win-7 and GabenOS.

EDIT:
Many of us CAG's here have more Windows games than we can shake a stick at.
Unless there's some significant performance advantage to Steam OS, I doubt I'll be dual-booting any time soon. Too much of a hassle.

I'm thinking if there are any big-name titles that go Steam-OS exclusive - i.e. anything by Valve like say Half-Life 3 - we'll be dual-booting Gates-7 and GabenOS.

EDIT:

I mean, hell - Valve used HL2 as Steamworks-requirement to get Steam onto OS's.

The number of Steamworks-only games been increasing like crazy, over the years.

Cool, I won't be afraid to try Windows 8 then, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to upgrade and spend $100+ on a copy.

People with Arkham City Standard edition and DLC: Did you do anything special to uninstall the GFWL DLC? I can't get the gwf marketplace client to start to see if there's some kind of deactivation or uninstall option on my DLC I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the client, no luck. Maybe that's cause the marketplace was shut down, I assumed you could still log in and manage your purchases but I guess not.

I'm kinda interested in Windows 8 but I just installed some various programs that I don't wanna have to call in and get reactivated. I should reformat my system drive anyway cause it's totally screwed up, I can't boot from it unless I go to a boot menu in my BIOS first.
It was a bit confusing at first, but having used it for a few months I've grown to like Windows 8 quite a bit. I was also a bit annoyed at the lack of customization options, but 8.1 pretty much fixed all of them and the fact I can go directly to desktop on login now and use the start button to go to the all apps list is fantastic. I also find the notification system specifically for the mail app very useful, and while I'm sure there are plenty of programs that offer similar functionality on windows 7/Vista/XP etc., having it built natively into the OS and not having any noticeable affect on boot time or performance is great.

Basically I think people are giving windows 8 more hate than it deserves. Microsoft fixed a lot of stuff with 8.1, and though perhaps there isn't any big reason for people to ditch 7 for it, it's not a terrible OS by any means ^_^

For anything but gaming however, Linux still rules;)

Dual booting Linux really isn't as hard or complicated as it seems, especially with the advent of bootable USB drives and automatic installers. I imagine SteamOS will be even easier to install than say Ubuntu or Linux Mint, and as a Tux fan I will be giving it a try as soon as possible ^_^

G4WL Marketplace was shut-down early August.

I also cannot connect to G4WL Marketplace client-program - which is where you're supposed to manage anything you've bought directly via G4WL Marketplace.

We're supposed to be able to still access our games and stuff there - but, that don't look like it's happening. Kinda sucks -

cause I never DL'ed my copy AOE3: Complete and Blacklight: Tango Down. Ummm, oops, I guess.

Meanwhile I can connect in-game to G4WL with anything currently (Dark Souls, etc) - since that won't be going away in 2014.

What's nice on XBLive.com if you sign-in and go through your account - you can see all your PC game purchases there - but where it says "Downloads", it tries to get you to DL to G4WL Marketplace. I wish I could just do a download right through there or something via my preferred web-browser.

They fixed very little.

I miss the orange too, but, oh well. . . .

Honestly, I'm in the one giant list camp myself. Too lazy to click tabs.
ok i added in a bit of orange

and i separated everything into just 2 lists now.

1 for everything on sale(daily+mid/weekend+weekly+publisher sale) and 1 for everything else.

that should make it easier to find stuff.

im still keeping the ru+cis tagged games completely separate though.

My not so useful feedback is that I can't see the list, nor can I see any embedded tweets. It's not any of my firefox addons either.
ok, i made a simple-text view of my list available in a spoiler below the spreadsheet just for you.

it may not get updated as quickly as the spreadsheet, but ill try to keep it recent.

Linux defines customization, and I will continue to compare any variant of Windows to it until Microsoft brings itself even partially inline with what it offers...which could very well be never, but I try to be optimistic whenever possible.

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I've been enjoying Rayman Legends but I don't think I've played it for the last 2 weeks.  So today I figure I want to play a couple levels again, but it crashes when it attempts to launch Uplay.

Now I can't even launch uplay by itself (not through Steam), as it crashes right after I log in.  There's no helpful error message, other than the generic Windows message "Uplay launcher has stopped working."

I've searched the internet for this topic and tried all tips: I've uninstalled, deleted the Uplay launcher folder, reinstalled, tried to launch from admin mode, etc... all to no avail.  I've rebooted countless times and it still does not work.

Has anyone experienced this with Uplay?  This is what completely frustrates me about added DRM...

Have you tried uninstalling it with something like Revo Uninstaller to completely remove any leftovers? I've never had that happen before, but I haven't used Uplay that much either so I can't be of much help.

I am logged into GFWL marketplace right now! I have been playing GFWL games (Steam or Marketplace) exclusively for a few months since I had a dozen or so to finish by the summer. I have been able to download games/dlc from the marketplace as recently as today.

"Deal" is too strong of a word there.

Same.

Or I will wait for Activision HB - which again, is probably never.
And using the "N" word here, tsk tsk. We all thought an EA bundle would never happen.

Also of note, Green Man Gaming is back up with the free Mafia II and Civ 5 codes. I had voted earlier, but didn't get a code because they had temporarily suspended them. Checked back today, and it recognized that I had finished voting and asked what game I wanted. Both emails were instant, but they still remind you on the front page that the codes are limited and can stop at any time. I imagine most people have Civ 5, but Mafia II seems a decent pick up.

Oh whatta you know, I signed into the website and accepted a "terms have changed" form, and now I can log in via the client. Stupid Microsoft for not telling me that's what was required when the client failed to log in, ugh! :headache:

This is weird, I just wanted to uninstall some DLC but the client is telling me it's not even installed, oh well I'll just delete it from the folder then. It's sitting right in my GFWL folder but the client doesn't recognize that.

The only remaining GFW marketplace content I own is some costumes for Fable 3, I can live without that, will probably never play the game again.

I won't say it will NEVER happen, but Activision doesn't have its own PC digital download service/client. EA does. Don't even want to think about the number of new Origin accounts that were created during those two weeks...

I uninstalled G4WL Marketplace Client program, then re-installed it.

It's now working - go bloody figure.

EDIT:

I tell you, G4WL Marketplace and its in-game client tab is one of the most quirky and pain-in-the-ass programs to get going. I've probably uninstalled/reinstalled it a bunch of times, in this lifetime. Whether G4WL updates don't take properly; or games won't run at splash screen b/c of G4WL itself not working right; or somehow files get trashed/corrupted; or the program doesn't properly open the right ports or keep them open; or for some reason it just stop works - who the hell knows why. It's a half-assed Microsoft program.

And I ain't even counting the numerous problems people have had w/ online and offline profiles; saves corrupting and/or getting trashed; DRM issues; etc - which I never been through w/ this hunk-of-junk.

Never ever been through those kind of problems w/ Steam, UPlay, Desura, or any other damn game-client.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it's worth paying much to upgrade to.

I didn't say it was hard or complicated: I said it was a hassle. I've tried dual booting a few times in the past, and always ended up just using one OS or the other, (usually Windows because I wanted to play a game or use a program that didn't have a suitable Linux equivalent.)

Having to restart and pick the other OS is just a pain to do.

I run Windows 7 with everything else as a VM. VirtualBox works just as well as dual-booting and is ridiculously easy to start up and configure. I have VMs for 98, 3.1, Ubuntu, and Android 4.3. Dynamically-allocated partitioning, memory, graphics, and host-to-child input support. Who says multiple OSes have to be annoying?

While doing that is useful in some use cases, running Steam OS as a VM on Windows would defeat the purpose of running Steam OS.

Fair enough, I guess I misunderstood your wording. I definitely hate having to switch between them, which is why I mainly use Windows for now as everything is built for it (well, more or less but you get my point). Once gaming on Linux (hopefully) improves, then I could see myself switching solely to Windows, but now you've explained your way of thinking I can certainly see why most are reluctant to try it, at least those who do a lot of PC gaming.

Well...not yet anyway :cold:

It was confirmed, I think a nvidia representative on neogaf confirmed it. Most of us wouldn't be buying the module, we'd be buying a monitor with the tech integrated into it, but that's just an idea of what the hardware costs. Pretty pricey. I think they mentioned a $400 monitor at the Nvidia event, I guess that's not so bad.

How is Windows 8 for games, is there anything that doesn't run? I read that the speed issues with Saints Row 2 don't exist in Windows 8.

How Steam can display a release date of Oct 18, 2013 for this game and not get sued for false advertising is beyond me. Original release date, 1993. I wonder if I can put a 10 year old car up for sale in a lot, and put "release date 2012" on it and not get sued.

I'd guess that's the first Steam release-date, not the very original game release date.

I thought at one point Steam had straightened that out. They used to post two release dates - one for the Steam release and one for the original. I guess something got broken or changed. I do agree it should be clearer.

I was complaining about this elsewhere a couple of days ago mostly because the 11th Hour was released at the same time and it has the original release date.

Steam is not a unique platform. It isn't like it was released on consoles back then and this is the first time coming to PC. If I ask 100 people what the release date is on that store page, they are going to assume that was when the game was actually released on PC. It is shameful and misleading of Valve. Note the release date on the GOG.com page: April 1st 1993.

Run Windows as a VM on Steam OS. Just quit bitching about how troublesome dual-booting is.

I don't understand the backlash against dual booting.
On the gaming rig I built most recently I Tri-boot Win7pro, OS X Mountain Lion, Ubuntu. Never had a problem.

We're still a while away from a virtualised OS having near-native 3D performance.

Just quit bitching about how troublesome dual-booting is.
If you think that it's worth the hassle of having to reboot just for an increase of a few FPS, that's your opinion. Mine is that it isn't worth it, and I'll continue to express and explain/justify it as long as I see fit to.

Whether or not this belongs in this thread is debatable. That you shouldn't be reposting it here [in this thread] within a few hours isn't.

Had a feeling this will be crappy. Have a feeling Big Bad Bundle is never going to have a bundle that's a no brainer deal, at best I'll have to talk myself into buying a bundle. The first two have been more like "no way would I ever want to buy that" type quality.

Edit: However, it's worth keeping an eye on. Top contributor gets an Amazon Kindle, so if you happen to want one of those you may be able to get a deal on it, depending on how high the contributions get. Also top 10 contributors get Big Bad BUndle 3 for free when it comes out (whooopieee....)

If all those games were going for $1 (or perhaps $2), I'd definitely pick it up. With the way it's currently split, and a $5 top tier, I'll definitely be passing.

If they were all a dollar it'd be a good deal, but I can't see myself ever playing any of those games, so I'd still pass.

I'd like to get Dreamscape, but it appears to have been bundled before and $4 for it on top of the base tier, um....no.
