Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Is there a guide for jesters or something? I just got around to hook up the kinect and it seems like I have no idea how to do anything.

Also, does the sensor get pretty hot for anyone else?

I sincerely hope they let us pre-download games in the future sometime, I'm going to be very frustrated waiting however many hours to play something like titanfall, when all my friends are playing after a disc install.

Other thoughts on downloads, it's great that we can play games after a certain percentage, ryse was at 3% when it said ready to play. I was like "shit, really?" But the main menu was as far as I was able to get. At 15% I was able to play chapter one to completio, but then I had to wait until 50% to play any more chapters. Maybe the devs will figure out more efficient ways about this down the road. I didn't watch the dead rising 3 download progress, but at 40% is when I started playing. I got to the first porta potty/save point, and couldn't go much further.

Ryse took me 5 hours to beat on normal. The worst thing was going back on Legendary to see there's no way of tracking all the collectables. Kinda sucks.
I know not everyone has smartglass, but you can track collectables using that. I'm actually digging some of the smartglass features. There are even video guides within the app to help you with collectable locations.

BTW theres actually demos of Fifa and NBA Live... you have to bing search them.
Very cool, good to know. But it's stupid that they would bury demo's like that. Those things need to be front and center! I was hoping for a demo of NFS Rivals.

Also very cool. I'm not too crazy about smartglass as a concept, but knowing that you can track collectables using it, I may have to give it a shot.

Well I've used it enough to air some grievances.

The friends list: what the fuck?! You can't even tell who is actually online. I had to turn on my 360 last night just to see if you friend was still on the One playing CoD. They have to fix this disaster like patch one, like yesterday.

It seems all the audio issues are fixed though. There is a Beta Surround Sound option for TV that works, so that's all good. And it seems like running HDMI into a receiver handles all Blu-Ray audio you need. So this seems fine.

You can see who is online.  It's just not as "in your face" as it was when their friendly little avatar was waving at you.....which I sorely miss.  You have to go to the friends list and look for the little green dot next to their name.  I think they also sort to the top and left of the list.

Granted, I don't care for how this works, but it does work.

I'm not happy with how the apps don't all link up.  I have a windows phone but the game center doesn't recognize X1 activity.  The 360 smartglass doesn't sync up with X1 activity either (I know it won't control the X1).  The X1 app isn't robust like the game center or previous 360 apps and it makes my friends on the 360 look like small gamerpic having losers (additional comments withheld because it's their fault for not being early adopters!  I kid!  sort of).  It's a minor gripe, but it would have been nice if these things worked fluidly.

The general consensus I'm getting from podcasts on the interface is that when Kinect works it's awesome and it does work a large majority of the time, but every time it doesn't, you really don't want to deal with it ever again. And the interface is kind of a mess only using the controller. Hopefully this stuff will improve over time.
The voice recognition really is surprisingly excellent. As long as you use a consistent tone and the specific phrase, it works. My wife used it to Skype with her sister and was great for that also -- the camera even panned over automatically when I entered the frame, and audio wise, it's surprisingly good. While I really wasn't that interested in Kinect at the start (to say the least), so far I find it a huge improvement and something I'm actually using -- it's so much better in tracking and detecting too. Even handing off the controller to a different XBL user (like my wife) signs them in -- and it works!

The interface could use a bit of streamlining though especially where the friends/followers thing is concerned. I miss just hitting the Guide button and having all of that right there. You'd think that would be something they could fix in an update (and will).

My girlfriend and I hooked the kinect up last night and yeah, we both decided it just wasnt for us. The gestures weren't really working at all and had to repeat ourselves several times.

I'm one of those people that really enjoyed the avatars on the 360.  It's cool that they carried over to the One, along with the gear I earned and bought.  But, is it just me or does it see obvious that the avatars aren't meant to have much of a future on the X1?  There's no store, unless they include that within the game's downloadable content/add on section.  It just seems like they were included to avoid more bitching from fans.

My first experience (after days of trying to get the update working..finaly it worked):

The interface seems a bit laggy with controller, but Kinnect works fantastic for me. Everything I say it did first time. I am not sure if it was just my playing area or not, as I had it hooked up at my sisters house. I will be traveling home tomorrow and hooking it up at my house.

I don't have a game yet so I downloaded and played killer instinct. The game was fun but I am not really into fighting games. My only gripe (which isn't the games fault) is the shoulder buttons on the controller seem harder to click.

I am going to download Ryse when I get back home to see how that is.

I've actually been wondering if they were even retained, since I didn't see one mention of avatars in any of the Xbone previews or reviews I read. I'm a fan as well, though I guess they aren't all that popular with the community at large.

I agree that the only clickable place for the bumpers is on the outside, the 360's bumpers clicked no matter where/how you held the controller. I have large hands so my index fingers reach to the inside. So I have to get used to that.

Yeah don't remember which reviewer said it but they were like and the Avatars are there for your gamerpic if you want. Wait until Microsoft highlights all the games you can play as your Avatar.

Keflings & UNO FTW!

I got my first crash to dashboard yesterday. Re-installed everything and restored to factory default. Everything has worked outside of when I first started games wouldn't start at all for a good 10-15 seconds after starting. I also believe KI restarted the console when it crashed to dashboard but things were happening so fast that I might have reseted it on accident by myself.

I guess this is the new occurrence happening a lot lately outside of Kinect just flat out dieing, bluray/disc drive issues (which seem non-existent from the latest shipments so I guess MS corrected that). Hoping It's a memory leak issue/something that be patched down the road.

Also theres a Zoo Tycoon demo up as of a few days ago. Someone said Europe got a Lego Marvel demo for the PS4 and XB1 but I didn't see it last night for the US.

why would you do all that for a crash to dashboard? the crash to dashboard thing means the game crash which is a game problem which i only had with bf4. When your 360 game crash and froze the system did you do all that ? it's the same thing but unlike 360 that did not have memory to not freeze xbox one don't freese just brings you back to dashboard.

The Witcher 3 was teased so it's a def show but rumor is a new Tomb Raider will be announced too. Those are two of my favorite multiplatform games. Something Star Wars related would also be a no brainer looking at the VGA's history. Wouldn't be too surprised to see footage of the next Dragon Age game either.

I think the biggest thing Geoff is talking about is Titanfall and it was teased a little with Spike's PS4 midnight launch pre-show that there will be a big announcement for it at the VGXs. We all knew this but I think it was Spike's way of tagging along for Titanfall's ride.

Quick question for those that have the X1. Can you still use programs like Tiversity to stream video files to the console from my PC?
Ya but it works a little differently. The Xbox one can't see any of your media on your network on the console itself so you need to use another device to send the videos to the Xbox one. This can be a pain if you use your PC to stream and its not in the same room as your Xbox One but there are free apps like Skifta(for iOS and Android) that will let you send your media from your pc(or any device on your network) to your Xbox One through your android or iOS device. I use Windows Media player though since it allows you to make a playlist of media to send to the Xbox One so you send over as many videos or songs as you want at once and the Xbox One will play all of them back to back.

@Timbo to eliminate all loose ends to determine what the problem is. So far  I got it down to A) profile issue, so I deleted my profile and re-downloaded it and that seems to have worked so far or B) auto-signing in with Kinect. When I signed into both games with no profile they both worked and no quits to the dashboard. or worst case scenario C) Bad XB1 system.  I forgot to mention my system wouldn't even start games.

Thanks for the info! I use to use Windows Media Player on my 360 to stream stuff from my PC, but it starting not working so well after only a couple weeks. I would add video files to the correct folder to stream through WMP and not all files would show up on my 360. It was very sporadic, sometimes half the files would show up, sometimes only 25%. Tiversity was flawless from the get go though. But if you say that WMP is the way to go for the Xbone then Ill go that route and hope for the best. I just stream 75% of the stuff I watch from my PC to my 360, so Im just needing the most simple way to get this done on the One whenever I do get one to keep. Thanks for the info SInfulfate!

Yeah I used to use Windows Media Player as well and it also just stopped working. It was like my PC couldn't keep media sharing going, every time I would start up WMP and check in on it the thing wasn't on (even after turning it on numerous times). I troubleshooted with the services but too much hassle, I'll just hook up my laptop to my 5.1 speakers/TV to listen to my music or watch a video. Fixed lol.

voice commands on my kinect works flawless. Im not sure if it's the size of my living room seeing i only sit like 7 feet from my tv which could be reason why it works well.

Even the xbox on works for me now. And my wife loves using the commands. Found a glitch in Cox on demand menu freezing but quickly found a work around. Love this system. It's everything I knew it would be.

sd channels always freeze for me and the xbox on command no longer turns my cable box and tv on not sure why.

i take that back just messed with some settings and it works again. but sd freezing is still a issue not sure if it's my cable box issue or what.

You obviously didn't look at the link I posted lol. If you're Irish then I'd be impressed but I'm guessing you're not - glad the Kinect is working for you.

Kinect works best for me if I speak the commands at a conversational level. I catch myself raising my voice for some reason and that is when it gets spotty. Not entirely sure why, but my guess is that when you raise your voice the kinect mistakes it for audio coming from the TV.

I have issues with using the XBOX ON command. It rarely works for me.  No rhyme or reason.  Also, the Auto-sign in does not seem to work for me also.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

"The firm’s polling found that consumers cited “too much hype” and high game prices among the top reasons for passing on the PlayStation 4"

Lol, are people seriously stupid? The gaming prices are the same for both systems and you pass on a system because of "too much hype"?

Some one is grumpy that his hope of xbox one failing is not turning out like he hope so he has to get grumpy on forum. Someone get this guy is bottle and blankit.

Try a re set up of kinect
I've done it twice now. I'll try again and REALLY crank the sound up. The Auto-Login is weird too. Doesn't work. I'll turn on with my controller, but my profile does not seem to login. I shouldn't even need the Kinect on to auto-login.
